Failure Date: 05/22/2022

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving at 42 mph, she was involved in a three car accident after a vehicle involved in another accident ricocheted and hit her vehicle. The driver airbag exploded but did not deploy. Black smoke was released from steering wheel and the airbag fell on the contact's left leg. The driver seat belt retractor fell apart during the accident which sliced the top part of the contact ear; in addition, the failure sent a part of the contact's earing into her ear canal. The driver of the vehicle that was originally hit in the accident died the next day in the hospital; another passenger in that same vehicle was critically injured. The contact was treated days later at a hospital for a severe burn to left leg due to the airbag. Her leg remained infected despite the treatment received at the hospital. The contact's ear was not treated. A police was filed. The contact's vehicle was initially towed to an independent mechanic and then to a friend's home. The contact's insurance had yet to make a decision on the repair for the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 21v245000(seat belts) and 17v437000(air bags, seat belts) which she linked to her failure. 3 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2020

Need a recall for air bags vehicle stationary.

4 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2017

While detailing my truck on October 30, 2017 I discovered a crack on the dash about an inch and a half long running from the top left of the airbag cover towards the defroster vent . Took the vehicle in for servicing on October 31, 2017 and they stated to contact GMC cares that they were familiar with this kind of problem. I called GMC they stated they were unaware of this problem on my make and model truck. They stated that I needed to contact the dealer and have the dealer contact GMC. The dealer told me to contact GMC. After doing a quick search on the internet I discovered this has been an ongoing problem that GMC has been aware of and is not fixing and apparently this will only going to get worse as time goes by. The safety concern I have is it so close to the airbag on the passenger side that if the airbag deploys in a crash will cause shards of broken dash to fly around in the cab injuring the passengers. .

5 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2015

While sitting parked in my driveway with the car in park and the engine idling, the side curtain airbags on my 2014 GMC Sierra deployed for no identifiable reason. Gm has provided part of the crash detection report data to me. The vehicle event severity status: rollover indicates "yes". The cdr also shows that the vehicle's speed was zero and the engine was at idle (512 rpm). As noted, the vehicle was parked on a level surface and there was no movement of the vehicle other than any movement of the passengers in the vehicle. The vehicle did not roll as is evidenced by the fact that there is no external damage.
