Eight problems related to exterior lighting have been reported for the 2014 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
There is already a technical service bulletin on this matter however I feel it is serious enough to be a recall. While driving at night in unlighted areas the bright lights leave serious dark areas especially if you are travelling on curvy roads. If you encounter a pedestrian or other object in the road in these areas they cannot be seen until its possibly too late. The manufacturer will only do the repair if you complain about it and its still under warranty. I believe this should be recalled and repaired before someone is hurt or killed.
The front projector headlamps do not put out enough light to safely drive on unlit roads at highway speeds. There is also little light projected to the side making turns unlit. I recently had a near hit with a pedestrian on an unlit street because of no side lighting when making a slow turn. There are no higher lumen replacement bulbs available.
The highlights on the 2014 Sierra sle are a hazard to try to drive with at night only light up 30-40 feet in front of the vehicle I get more light from the fog lamps to see by.
The vehicle lights are very dim even with the high beams on. While driving at night can barely see in front of me. These are a hazard to me and others, since not being able to see a good distance in front of the vehicle makes hard to see pedestrians, animals or debris in the road at night.
The headlamps are totally inadequate for night driving thus producing a very significant safety issue . There is zero lighting on both sides on low beam and very poor down road vision on highbeem. There are many complaints on line and they are all with the same issues. It has to do with the cheap one bulb lense system with a shutter on the lense. Have complained to dealer who acknowledged there is a problem and to gm who refuses to acknowledge there is a problem . Gm response to me was the lamps work as designed and I responded that is exactly the problem, the design which produces very dangerous driving conditions.
After purchasing our new truck, we drove it for the first time after dark on our rural country roads. When engaging the dim lights you can not see more than 20 to 30 yards in front of your vehicle. My husband has done extensive research on this problem since we discovered it and found hundreds of complaints. When engaging the bright lights they appear to shine the distance that the dim lights should. We feel that this is a serious engineering flaw in the gm lighting system on their GMC trucks. He has discovered that they have installed a projector light with a curtain or shutter in this lighting system. We have had them adjusted once by the dealership and they made it worse not better. We have been told that until gm is made to change the lighting system and remove this curtain/shutter system that we are stuck with this. Our only alternative seems to be to drive with our bright lights on at all times after dark in rural areas. We feel that this is a very dangerous situation and at some point in time there is going to be a serious if not fatal accident due to this problem. We are hoping that you will investigate this matter and take action as soon as possible.
Today for the first time I drove my 2014 Sierra texas edition in the rain at night. . . . Wow>>>>> I had to stop and wait for the rain downpour to let out so I could see where I was going. Not good. Driving at night is very stressfull and eye straining to the point of taking headache medications once you are done driving. Any wayt to fix this extremely dangerous problem? this should be considered a safety hazard to drivers and any others on the road. This issue needs to be addressed and resolved ASAP. And gm still says there is nothing wrong. So why are they changing the desing on the 2016's trucks.
