Got into vehicle on 12/24/2011. When I started it, I noticed an odometer error. Still not working.
The frame on the truck is cracked several inches in a couple of places and rotted. It is very thin and I was told there was nothing solid to weld to and repair it. They said I would have to have the frame replaced. The truck has just turned 100000 miles. I have had it for six years and take excellent care of it. It runs great. The body is in excellent shape, there is one small hole in the driver side rocker panel I was going to repair in the near future ( I do not know if I will now bother). Other than that the body is near perfect. There is no rot in the floors or truck bed. The repair shop could not believe how bad the frame is when the truck looks so great. I have found a number of complaints on the internet similar to this, maybe if enough people speak up something will get done. Also, the anti lock brakes have not worked for some time now. I was told they get rust in the assembly and do not work right. I have also had several brake lines break and need to be replaced. I realize that brake lines do rust over time and do need to be replaced (they should be made from stainless steel from the factory) but the anti locks should work and a frame should not rot and crack as it has.
Under carriage of truck is completely rusted. Frame, brake lines, leaf springs, basically everything. Fuel tank looks as if might break off and fall to ground at any moment and leaf spring shackles look as if might break and split truck in half. All dangerous and should be recalled.
My 2008 GMC Sierra denali's automatic locks have failed on three of the four doors. I didn't realize they were not engaging until I took two children to dinner and had one of them open the door without unlocking the door. I had the child safety locks engaged and thought I would be safe, but it turns out the locks never engaged (thus, making the child locks irrelevant). This is an issue beyond inconvenience.
Defect discovered this date, but known by manufacturer. Exhaust manifold bolts are breaking, leading to exhaust gases leaking under hood which will lead to emission problems. Learned that this is a common problem with gm 8 cylinder trucks made from 1999 to 2007, which involves about 12 million vehicles. The repair cost is $800 to $1000, and gm has not recalled or offered to extend warranty to cover the repair. This is clearly a manufacturing defect and gm should be held accountable.
Structural cross member between frame rails just above rear wheels rusted away leaving rt rear shock unattached. . . . . Further investigation this week by body shop will determine amounts of rust to left side and possible danger by unsupported gas tank?.
Attempting to stop for a school bus, as I pressed on the brake pedal it went to the floor and the truck did not come to a complete stop. After pulling over, it was discovered that the brake line was leaking fluid on the ground. Upon further inspection, noticed the brake lines are corroded. Be it know that the frame and body parts on this truck are also rusted as to not pass state inspection. The truck is just over 10 years old and unsafe to drive due to multiple manufacture defects.
I continue to be annoyed by a condition I experience with the GMC vehicle I purchased new three years ago. The problem is one that the dealer does not have a remedy for. The specific problem is that when the vehicle is parked overnight or when it is parked in the shadows, the instrument panel is not lighted when one drives away sometimes for periods of up to thirty to forty-five minutes. This becomes particularly irritating in the case of the radio which cannot be read from the driver's position. Only after the vehicle has been in the bright sun for sometimes as little as ten and often as much as forty-five minutes will the dash lights kick in to where they are easily readable. I find this condition a potential hazard in that people may be stretching to read their radio or may not be able to adequately view their instrumental panel otherwise. The problem seems to be a design error. What appears to be an electric eye or similar device is in the shadow of the windshield wiper assembly or the pillar on the passenger side. What happens then is when the electric eye is in full sun, it eventually seems to find where it is at and the lighting in the dash is increased. It seems that because this is a dangerous condition much in the way of cell phones, gm ought to be made to recall and/or offer a remedy to the consumer. I find this comment being made by fellow owners of GMC and Chevrolet pick-up trucks. The problem then is not only mine. How widespread is it?.
During a trip along wa highway 2, westbound thru stevens pass, the temperature was dropping as indicated by the vehicles outside temperature indication. As it traversed from approx 42 degrees f to 36 degrees f all windows fogged severely so as to render no visibility. The defroster was engaged during this event. This vehicle has a manual hvac system. This has occurred numerous times as the temperature traverses below 36 degrees f, all times result in excessive cabin moisture and window fogging. This event has been reported by other 2010/2011 GMC/silverado/avalance, etc owners. GMC is aware but has no fix and dealers offer no fix.
The spare tire hoist cable holding the spare tire on my vehicle failed while I was driving causing my spare tire to drop onto the road and forcing vehicles behind me to take evasive action.
The cable on the undercarriage spare tire broke causing the spare tire to fall. The tire started bounce and almost went through the windshield of the vehicle behind me. General motors was notified of this.
I had just exited a busy interstate highway when the spare tire fell from under the truck. After examining the spare tire retaining cable I found it had rusted in half allowing the tire to fall. If the tire had fallen out 30 seconds earlier it would have resulted in a multi car pile up with possible serious injury or death to those behind me. I feel this cable should be replaced by stainless steel cable which will not rust or at the very least a secondary safety chain be added to at least keep the tire with the truck !! I am now afraid to follow any gm made truck !.
Consumer states that the spare tire fell out from under the vehicle. The spare had only been removed once from the vehicle. This happened about one week after the consumer purchased the vehicle. The round ball that holds the tire onto the truck broke. When the consumer noticed the problem the tire was bouncing about twenty feet in the air.
Was coming up to a stop sign, applied the brake was almost to a stop then the brakes failed for a couple of seconds and I rolled through the stop sign into the intersection!! this was going on all the time when the brakes were being applied and the vehicle was almost to a stop around 10 mph. I talked to a garage and they said it was the abs brakes so I removed the abs fuse from the vehicle and the problem stopped I just don't have abs brakes.
The consumer had the truck for approximately 1 year and there have been 6 recalls and he has not been notified of any of these recalls. The consumer is still driving vehicle.
Tailgate support wire broke, and tailgate fell of truck, landed on my foot.
While driving, the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably. The consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for an inspection. The mechanic informed the consumer the problem could not be duplicated.
1st broken flywheel replaced; now 05/31/05 back in for 2nd fly wheel replacement.
The passenger side climate control would receive an improper voltage reading. The system would turn to its preset default settings. (on full heat) it was then necessary to stop the vehicle, turn off the ignition system. This will allow the climate control system to reset its self. This happened only one time per day. (not always at the start of the day. ) troubleshooting this system was a time consuming process. (5 trips to the shop just for this) to fix this the passenger side climate control system was replaced. (this required 4 â½ days) total time to troubleshoot and repair was 4 weeks.
Don't have my VIN handy at the moment b/c my truck is in the shop having $1400 of transmission work done on it. It's a 1998 GMC Sierra 2wd, and the transmission went out 8/21/03. The tranny had 84,000 miles before comlete failure. The truck was driven by an exceptionally gentle driver, never used for towing (even though it came with a towing "package") and never abused in any way. Yesterday, it wouldn't reverse or go into 1st gear. Two weeks prior it began shifting hard, emitting a loud "clank" sound. . . We knew the end was near!.
I have carlisle sure trail st tires, size st 205/75d15, on my 2003 big tex 60ch trailer. The right rear tire blewout for no apparent reason at freeway speeds and a light load on the trailer. Upon further inspection of the tires that were installe on this trailer at time of purchase, I have replace all four tires, due to the one blowout, and very severe crowning in the center of the tread at the proper cold inflation pressure of 35psi, this crowning of the tread actually looks like an over-inflated tire, when in fact it is probebly a separation inside the tire. The dot numbers are as follows: uuul scb0103 uuul scb0103 uuul scb0103 8lul 0703 the odd numbered tire is the tire that blew out and had printed in the bead area that it was manufactured in trinidad. By the time I could get the trailer off the freeway the blow-out was smoking.
On may 31st, the rear end differential assembly exploded sending the pinon thru the housing and the rear axle caught on fire. The truck was in the shop (perry cheverolet, inc. , columbia, mo)until 6-9-03. When I arrived in bozeman, mt on 7-2-03 I was having problems with the wiring. There was a fire when I plugged the RV electrical plug into the truck's trailer plug. There was also a blown rear tail light bulb. In bozman, they replaced the complete wiring harness, the tow receptacle and 2 fuse kits. It was the opinion of the shop in bozeman (j. C. Billion, GMC) that the wiring damage was part of the original fire and differential assembly damage. Although GMC paid for my out of pocket expenses and for the waranty work, I am left to wonder what will happen next and just how safe am I going to be in this truck? I selected a truck bigger than what I needed at the current time, thinking that if I replaced my travel trailer in the future, I would not have to trade trucks also.
Windshield wiper partial failure. Works sometimes. . . Sometimes not. Perhaps a short in the switch. Steering problem is hard to discribe. At low engine rpm's, expecially at idle its as if there is no power steering at all. Steering wheel is extremely hard to turn. Then, at road speed, at times when youturn the wheel to about the two o'clock position the steering wheel will suddenly loose all 'feel' and will 'fall' to about the four o'clock position. The steering is still operational as the truck will veer if you don't catch it first and correct. The steering system just looses all feel and there is little or no effort involved with turning the wheel. We've had one shop look at it but they could find nothing wrong.
The vehicle was involved in a rear end collision, and the vehicle caught on fire.
The right (passenger) side window will not go up. I had lowered the window partially for ventilation but when I tried to raise the window, it did not move and you could hear the cable binding inside the door.
The high-beam indicator light (blue) is extremely bright and is so aimed as to shine directly into the eyes of the driver. This causes a significant distraction due to the light shining directly at the left eye and also greatly reduces the visibility through the windshield due to the additional light. This has been reported to GMC via the dealer and I was told that the light is part of a cluster and there is nothing that can be done to fix it. This light is a significant safety hazard and needs to be remedied. Dt.
Brakes will go out while driving, and the pedal will go to the floor before the vehicle even starts to slow down. Contacted the dealer, and the dealer is not willing to do anything. The consumer states that the ride control will not go on; there is an internal short-replaced the ride control, the consumer states that the abs light stays on-faulty speed sensors, and right front seat belt is not retracting.
1999 GMC Sierra. ****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****768093.
Consumer states there is a regular intermitting bump and shake in the interior vehicle. The chassis fell through the seat and steering. Vehicle has a ruff drive. Dealer contacted.
Engine uses to much oil, knocks, smokes body- truck bed sides are rippeling because the metal is to thin,& can not handel the weight of a lumber rack, front bumper is dented on both sides but in differant places, was like this at delivery, all the trucks were like this but all of them in differant places. Manufacture defect exhaust- loose parts inside of muffler, exhaust rattels from mounting hardware, muffler retains water and leaks at the seams. Paint-rust on the top of cab seatbelt- driver side belt will not recoil, broken seat belt bracket. (this is a safty issue) tires-below 1/32 tread left at 23,000 miles(this is also a safty issue) transmission-makes a cluncking noise at low speeds, takes a long time to shift when running the a/c also makes a howling noise, transmission slips.

While coming down a hill put foot on brakes, and it felt like pushing on a brick wall. Consumer proceeded through a stop sign. Consumer has to press brake down twick before vehicle will stop. The brakes failed twice. The steering column makes a grinding noise when turning. Horn failed. Keyless entery failed. Door locks failed. Interior lights failed. The fan in the front end is very loud. The speedometer is inaccurate. The power steering pump shaft broke.
I also have a 1997 GMC safari van with the same problem. Please advise. Thanks.

Cargo tie-down rings failed. Mjs.
When braking the vehicle pulls to left or right sides.
The consumer stated that while driving there's was a sizzling noise coming from the engine compartment. The plastic or cellophane sealant strip for the carburetor gasket located between the carburetor and throttle came unsealed and fell off. This caused gasoline to pour out onto the engine block. This could have resulted in a fire of explosion in the engine block. Please provide more detail information.
Intermittently engine check and oil lights will illuminate while the vehicle is being driven. Dealer has been notified.
The rubber gram was missing.
