3 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/16/2017

My vehicle experienced a faulty fuel control module failure per the gm recall bulletin 14515b for pn 20759945, while I was driving on 8-16-17. The vehicle check engine light came on and the engine stopped running while in motion. No injuries or accident accorded at the time, but we were stranded on the side of the road. According to the recall bulletin, this recall was VIN specific and my vehicle's VIN was not a part of this recall. I believe that per page 3 of the recall document, my vehicle should be covered under this recall as I had to replace this exact defective part in my vehicle as outlined in the recall notice. I have registered a complaint with GMC under service case # 8-3179179425 today and was directed by customer service department (danielle ext. 591) to contact this agency to request that my vehicle be included as part of this recall as the specific pn that was under this recall was found to be defective and had to be replaced. Attached is the actual recall bulletin 14515b, highlighted with affected recall pn, my vehicle make, model and year as well as a copy of the repair invoice from the gm dealer that I paid $596. 18 for an item that should have been covered under this recall. As a long time gm customer, I would appreciate any assistance your agency could/would provide on my behalf. Respectfully mark d. Drengberg 26 sunset road franklin, MA. 02038 (508) 509-7515.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/29/2015

GMC replaced all 8 fuel injectors under warranty at 95,000 miles. Same problem again at 135,000 and will not cover them. Estimated $5,500 to replace by consumer with only a 12 month warranty. Creates poor fuel economy, excessive smoke at idle and will not pass smog if not corrected.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/23/2015

The primer pump housing develops a small leak around a electrical connection. This could lead to a fire as fuel drops on the engine. Gm is aware of problem it has been on going for several years. It only occurs when vehicle is running. Note-no fire has happen to my vehicle, nor do I know of a fire occurring. I just believe this is unsafe. The only way to correct the problem is to replace primer pump housing.

7 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

Issues with emissions switch. Check engine light will not go off. Also 3 and 4th gear are completely gone out. I do not tow or have had anything even remotely heavy in this truck. It's a 2005 GMC Sierra with only 78,480 miles on it. I am not the only one having issues with this 4 speed transmission. It is not heavy duty enough for this size truck. Gm needs to recall all of these transmissions. When it first started slipping I lost all power going down the road at about 55mph. The vehicle that was behind me slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting me. This problem with the transmission is going to kill someone.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/30/2014

Engine stopped running, dash gauges blank. I managed to pull over without power brakes or steering! after a few minutes I was able to restart with "reduced engine power, traction control off, and stabilitrac" problems displayed on dash. I was a mile from home in -10f temps! I pulled it into my shop. Dtc code p2135 which has to do with throttle position sensor. The dealer has a 2 week delay in getting into their garage! I found out that the throttle body/sensor is not covered under warranty. So with the cost of a tow (can't trust the truck to make to dealer) plus the part cost, I will repair it myself. The reason for this letter, I discovered that this has happened to other GMC truck owners. Their vehicle quit in the same manner. I think that "reduced power" is not the same as no power!!! I wonder what would have happened to me if I was on the freeway during rush hours??? be prepared for some creative driving!.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

The truck was averaging about 20 mpg but shifting erratically like it couldn't decide what gear to be in. After using the 4wd the first time the mpg dropped off to about 17 and has been declining steadily currently I get 14 to 15 mpg and drive 150 miles per day mostly highway. I have taken it back to the dealer twice they said the computer couldn't get used to my driving style and reprogrammed the computer. When I took it back about the mileage a guy came out and said he could tell if something was stuck and switched the 4wd a few time and said it was fine. My mpg is getting worse and it slams in and out of gear 2-3 times in a matter of seconds while sustaining a steady highway speed on a flat surface.

13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/26/2014

Dear sir or MA'am, I have a 2002 GMC Sierra truck that I bought new in 2002. The brakes recently failed completely while my wife was driving on or about September 26, 2014. The brake pedal went to the floor without significant braking action. Fortunately she was able to stop safely and was not involved in an accident. Upon examination, the brake line to the left rear wheel was completely rusted through. I examined the rest of the lines and noticed that the brake lines, the transmission cooler line and the fuel line all show signs of major corrosion, especially along the frame. I have less than 43,000 miles on this truck and it was garage-kept the first nine years I owned it. I live in ky where the roads are only salted a few times a year. The rest of the vehicle is relatively rust free. The truck is unsafe to drive now. Even if I patch the leak, the rest of the lines could fail at any time. I could suffer catastrophic brake failure while towing my boat or horse trailer or simply going down a hill. Furthermore, the fuel lines are under considerable pressure and if they rupture, there could be a very dangerous fire hazard. If the transmission cooler lines rupture, I could have a complete transmission failure. I have read that this is a known issue with Chevrolet and GMC trucks for years 1999 to 2003 and that the nthsa has looked into this in the past. If other trucks are in the same condition as mine (and I believe there are), there is a major safety problem on the roads right now. Yet, to date no recall has been issued. I think this is courting disaster. It is my opinion that lines made with inferior steel were used in the construction of this vehicle, yet gm refuses to acknowledge the fact. I urge you to look further into this matter. This is nthsa case number: 699264.

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

I was coming to a stop and I lost my brakes I was able to get it stopped. Took it to my mechanic right away and was told the brake line burst and hit my gas line busting it as well. They had the vehicle for over 3 weeks. They repaired the gas line easy enough but the brake line had to be completely replaced.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

All fuel and brakes like rotted. The brakes failed for the second time. One break line was previously replaced approx. 1 year ago. Both times vehicle needed to be towed for repair. Total cost for most recent replacement/repair was $1202. 13.

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

The fuel lines are rusted through spraying fuel to under side of truck. The lines rusted through while driving fifteen hours strait from florida. If the fuel would have hit the tail pipe or diesel particulet filter when regenerating, there could have been a serious fire. I have been through an explosion at work and know what it is like to be burned. I only drove this truck daily two winters before I got hurt and last winter it was in florida. I haven't even changed the front brakes yet but the fuel lines are shot. Shame on gm and shame on NHTSA for not addressing this. You both know there is a problem with brake and fuel lines. How many people need to die or get hurt or how many not even reported have been touched before you act. And by the way I have a mechanics degree from years ago but am not a practicing mechanic.

17 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/19/2014

2005 GMC Sierra z71. I am the original owner. This vehicle has 18k miles, yes 18 thousand original miles. This truck does not get beat on at all, no off road etc, and it has been well taken care of since new. There is a rust issue with these trucks. On 5-19-2014, on my way to the car wash my brakes started to feel very soft and the truck was not stopping. I changed routes to my mechanics shop, and while en route lost the rear brakes. I thankfully arrived (driving very slowly) to the front of his shop. I got out and saw a puddle of brake fluid leaking out of the rear end brake lines rear lines were completely rusted. He inspected the vehicle, and as if this wasn't enough, informed that the transmission lines were also leaking (rusted). Mechanic added that I should be prepared for the fuel lines to rust through next. This line replacement job will cost me about 2k. Not to mention the issue with the lower rockers and cab corners rusting. That estimated is for another 2k. I purchased this truck to last me, and apparently gm does not build a quality product anymore. There a numerous complaints about this issue, and gm refuses to acknowledge the problem. Very unhappy!.

18 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

Vehicle goes into reduced engine power mode at interstate speeds without warning and increases risk of being rear ended, does not have enough power to safely get the vehicle off the road when in the left lane with other cars behind. More instances of this same scenario over the past few months than I can count. Throttle body has been cleaned. There are too many internet forum posts detailing many different parts having been replaced by dealerships and other mechanics and the problem still existing to just start replacing parts because the costs too quickly is unsustainable.

19 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/26/2013

I wrote gm on October 26, 2013 about my 2003 GMC Sierra duramax diesel 6. 6l 6l that just recently started billowing bluish black smoke constantly from the exhaust and costing an exorbitant amount of money in gas. I took it to the dealer (quality by dilorenzo in albuquerque, new mexico) and they informed me that there was a bulletin issued in October 2006 for leaking fuel injectors. They diagnosed my truck with the exact fuel injector problem. The truck only has 83,502 miles on it and I've been informed that the next time I take it for an emissions test (a requirement in new mexico) it will fail. I finally saved up enough money to go an outside repair shop on July 15, 2014 to get my fuel injectors replaced and the total came to $4763. 78. I found out that there were two stripped bolts indicating that the fuel injectors were previously repaired (additional cost of$12 each to replace the 8 bolts). I called the original owner and he told me that the injectors were repaired under the original bulletin (04039) in June 2005 at tillery motors in belen nm. Therefore, the fuel injectors were never really repaired properly in the first place. I have spoke to another women (kathy) at the gm customer service center. She is again elevating this issue to a specialist under gm id #71-1331886730 for reimbursement of the total cost (standard 24-48 hour call back).

20 Other Fuel System problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/18/2013

The contact owns a 1999 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, he smelled a strong gasoline odor inside of the vehicle. There was also fuel visible on the ground. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that both the fuel and brake lines were completely rusted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

21 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

Noticed back door open indicated on panel, stepped out with vehicle in drive at a stop, then once outside slipped and vehicle kept moving, had to jump back into vehicle and apply brake to put it into park, why doesn't vehicle shut down once off the seat? riding lawn mowers do!.

22 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/22/2013

Front brake line failed. Completely rusted, it blew out inside one the clips that hold it in place. Horrible design. Truck is sitting in my driveway because I cannot afford to repair brakes. Estimate was over 1500, just to replace the lines, with coated steel, not stainless. Fuel lines are all rusted as well. All need replacement.

23 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

Backed out of driveway and brake pedal felt soft. Got to end of street and suspecting a problem began slowing early. Brake pedal went to the floor with very little pressure and very little stopping power. Went back to house and found a large puddle of brake fluid where the truck had been sitting. Opened the hood to look at brake reservoir and found it empty but also realized all hard brake lines in view were heavily corroded and crusted. Leak was from burst hard line below driver. All hard lines are heavily crusted and corroded near the point of failure if not already failed. Some fuel lines also corroded.

24 Other Fuel System problem of the 1998 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/22/2012

Fame rot almost completely broken on both sides in rear by leaf spring mounts.

25 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

2007 GMC crewcab Sierra with 5. 3 liter ,auto, has had three plastic fuel line failures in last two years. After detecting a fuel odor, gas was found to be dripping/sprayed in the area of the exhaust pipe. Appears to be a fire risk. Same truck was delivered with warped flex plate, and has experienced major and repeated a/c failures. This truck is driven by a 50's female, has never towed, been off road etc. It is at a repair shop but has about 35000 miles on it.

26 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/09/2012

The contact owns a 2001 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that the filler neck was rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 100,005.

27 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/15/2012

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Sierra denali. The contact stated while driving 25 mph he smelled a very strong fuel odor. The vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic and the contact was told that the high pressure fuel line was severely rusted and was leaking gasoline. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The failure and the current mileages were 55,000.

28 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/20/2007

Why is gm recall 14121 limited to new vehicles? it has been a recurrent, common problem since long before 2000. Long before I bought my 2007 GMC Sierra classic 2500hd which is on the third repair. I just replaced a transmission cooler line in my driveway. Today. Which is steadily eroding by way of continuous transmission cooler leaks. It continuously coats the underside of vehicle, reducing life of belts and hoses. Gm dealers feel its not covered by 5/100k powertrain warranty, or 36k bumper-bumper warranty because it's a long time gm problem as well as warranties in general.

29 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/19/2007

Truck has had an undercarriage rust issue at least since 2007. The fuel and brake lines must be replaced and the frame and suspension are deteriorating.

30 Other Fuel System problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/07/2005

Truck running sluggish. Difficult to start at times. Hooked up to computer a couple times and showed different sensors bad at different times. Driving to work on 7/7/2005 vehicle suddenly shuts down, able to pull into a resturant parking lot. Problem : fuel pressure regulator clogged ( this is a vaccum line no gas should go through it) causing gas to flow at 60 pounds fuel pressure into the intake manifold causing a fire. Because of this the manifold burned a big hole where #4 cylinder would be located. This happened while I was driving 55 mph down the road & was possibly still burning while I waited in my vehilcle to be picked up. I believe this is a dangerous & should be looked at. My girlfriends nephew found the problem & replaced the intake manifold & fuel pressure regulator. While working on my 99 GMC Sierra her brother who drives a 2000 GMC Sierra describes the same problems I was experiencing & promptly brings over his truck. Upon looking at his fuel pressure regulator it also was full of gas ! his was found earlier without resulting in fire & his fuel pressure regulator was replaced. I contacted GMC & they have given me a hard time, because they wanted me to take it to a GMC garage, I was not going to pay to have it towed there . But plan on stopping there Monday 7/18/05 to show them the parts ( I have the fuel pressure regulator & the intake manifold with the hole burnt through).

31 Other Fuel System problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra
