1 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2013

Loss of braking effectiveness at low speed when turning wheel. While making left hand turn into driveway at low speed on dry pavement, anti-lock braking system activated causing loss of braking. Brake pedal "froze" at position and would not allow pedal to be depressed further. Vehicle continued forward until impacting the exterior garage wall causing structural damage to the home. Upon further testing vehicle in open, dry parking lot, the antilock system activates incorrectly when turning wheel left or right while braking at low speed. This vehicle had wheel sensor service for recall campaign 05068c performed on February 20, 2012. The gm wheel speed sensor recall campaign apparently is not a permanent fix for the root cause of failure, but only a temporary band-aid solution. Fortunately there was no one in vicinity of front of vehicle when this incident occurred, otherwise serious physical injury of loss of life could have occurred.

2 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2010

The contact owns a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4. While driving approximately 5 mph he engaged the brakes and the vehicle did not stop. He applied pressure to the brakes in order to stop the vehicle. Several vehicles were blowing their horns in order to avoid a crash because the vehicle stopped in an intersection. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the wheel speed sensor needed to be replaced or cleaned and was the cause of the failure. The contact will be responsible for the repair cost. The contact called the manufacturer and referenced recall 05v379000, service brakes, hydraulic:anti lock and was advised that the recall repair had already been performed on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 73,100 and the current mileage was 73,330.

3 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

The contact owns a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact was driving 30 mph when the abs light illuminated. When depressed, the brakes would fall much farther into the floorboard than usual. The dealer replaced the speed sensor yet the abs warning light illuminated immediately following repairs. The dealer then advised that the failure could be caused by a faulty valve or module. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000. The consumer stated he spent over $3000 on the brake module and brake lines which were rusted. Updated 12/22/10.

4 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

Abs activation at slow speed, often when turning. Paid for wheel speed sensor cleaning and reinstall 12/14/2004. Recall for same problem performed 11/16/2005. Symptoms have returned, dealer will not perform recall procedure a second time at no cost. Slow speed abs activation increases stopping distance, and can cause a crash.

5 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2008

Purchased 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 new. Have during time of ownership had both front and rear disc brakes/rotors repaired/replaced twice. Once with 20,151 miles under warranty. The last set of front rotors and pads were replaced with 74,299 miles during the recall 05068 for abs speed sensor corrosion. I had to pay for this set of rotors and pads at a cost of $406. 03. Since time of "safety recall" truck has intermittently not stopped properly at low speed. While driving I attempted to stop heard a slight pop and the brake peddle went to the floor with little resistance. Had truck taken to dealer ship where last brake repair and safety recall was performed, they discovered that my main brake line had rusted through and had failed. At that time they also informed me that all the brake lines were rusty and should be replaced. I had at the time of dropping the vehicle off informed them of the problem with low speed braking and the feeling that the abs was activating. Upon repair of the main brake line at $244. 32 (I declined to have all brake lines replaced at my expense) they test drove the vehicle and indicated that they were unable to experience the low speed brake failure. I do not believe that a vehicle with less than 90,000 miles should have brake lines rust through, that two sets of rotors rust to the point of failure. This degree of rust to the braking system appears excessive and unwarranted. In looking at internet appears to be serious problem with 2000 GMC and chevy pickups. Wife will not ride in the truck as she feels it is unsafe since can't always stop truck!.

6 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2007

Failure of the wheel speed sensor due to corrosion causing unwanted anti-lock brake system activation. Nhtsa recall # 05v379000 describes this very condition, but I was told my truck did not qualify for this recall after a dealer search of my VIN number. My truck however falls within the year, model and locations described in the recall.
