2 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2019

2015 GMC sierra sle / 60k miles / projector headlights. . . Numerous complaints from numerous others, I'm in the same boat. Illumination in general, driving in rural areas, driving in inclement weather, making turns (side streets), etc. , is horrible, unsafe, nerve-racking and troublesome. Sure, the headlights look snazzy, but perform about as well as my lawn tractor's headlights. I see there's a TSB regarding the situation and, much to my dismay, I have to pay for said parts/labor to correct an obvious design flaw/snafu. Am I crazy for thinking this is unacceptable? even more shocking, it appears the bcm reprogramming (marginal results) and lamp replacement is problematic (increased voltage to a bulb/lamp shortens its life considerably). A vehicle that costs 30-40-50k should not have garbage technology. On the plus side, at 48 years young, my vision remains 20/20 and I do not require vision correction. The wife, my 2 kids (of driving age) and my neighbor concur - these headlights suck. I love everything else about the vehicle, but it looks like instead of spending $200 for the TSB, I'll try my luck with aftermarket replacements for $300. Via multiple online vehicle forums, most who've gone the route of TSB are marginally impressed and everyone electing to go with aftermarket is completely satisfied. . . That alone shines a spotlight on the lack of visibility both the NHTSA and gm are providing the consumer. Maybe instead of paying suits millions per year to produce subpar vehicles, gm should do the right thing and focus on what matters most -- the paying customer. Yeah, we have a better shot with the NHTSA holding gm accountable and force them into a recall (correcting the problem properly, not a willy nilly reprogram and bulb replacement).

3 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

Projector style headlights that came factory are too dim making it very difficult to drive at night and unsafe. Lights are now powerful enough to light up the road.

4 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2018

Headlights are poor. Low and high beams do not illuminate the road effectively in rural areas.

5 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

Headlights are very dim, hard to see at night especially when it is raining. Must use fog lamps at all times to be able to improve vision. Contacted gm and dealer about issue, have claim number. They say truck is no longer under warranty to do anything.

6 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2018

Night time vision is compromised due to poor headlight illumination, most notable in areas of low ambient lighting or rain. This has been present since purchased new. Truck headlight bulbs were updated under general motors service bulletin pit5374b at local GMC dealer where vehicle was purchased. Charge for this update was $149. 21. While I do not hold the dealer responsible for this charge, I do feel the substandard lights should be considered a mandatory safety issue and dealt with as such.

7 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2018

Headlight quality headlight quality is very poor, side lighting and distance lighting are terrible. Gm issued a TSB but no recall for people who complained about the headlights. I purchased at 37k so am beyond the 3yr/36k. I am looking into after market fixes for the problem. I was told the problem was fixed in the 2016 models.

8 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2018

Poor quality headlights, very difficult to not "over drive" the projected range of headlights. In reality, you should probably never drive over 35 mph after dark. It is impossible to see anything in the rain.

9 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2018

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the headlights were very dim making it difficult to view the road while driving at night. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to varney Buick GMC Mazda (260 hogan rd, bangor, me 04401) where the bulbs were replaced under a technical service bulletin however, the bulb replacement failed to fix the failure. The contact stated that he replaced the bulbs twice with led bulbs however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,202.

10 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2017

The headlights on my 2015 GMC serria 1500 slt are unsafe. The headlights do not light to the sides adequitely and this is very apparent when making a turn at night. I have also read about this same headlight safety concern on several websites posted by other owners.

11 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2017

Very poor headlights. I just can't see. It is like a fog. Nlocked out side views. Dims are not good and brights don't even get flashed by oncoming vehicles. They shine in the trees. I took the vehicle in three times to a dealer of GMC's and they don't have a solution. They said they realize the problem but hands are tied because I think if they start to fix it a can of worms will be opened up and cost the company. How many complaints must you have?.

12 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

GMC upgraded the headlamps as a "fix" for the extremely poor side and forward illumination by the vehicle. The "fix" is still such a poor excuse for headlamp illumination that we keep from driving the vehicle at night as a "safety" reason. The poor performance continues and the dealership has exhausted what GMC/gm is willing to do and is not the dealerships problem but gm's. I would send a photo of the poor headlight performance but you can't see it as it was on a rainy night and the headlamps then are even worse. What a poor excuse for a fix. GMC/gm fixed the issues in the 2016 and 2017 but due to the cost of reworking the trucks they sold in 2014 and 2015 they hide behind the sorry fix they make the dealers try to make the customers go away.

13 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2017

When driving in rural areas at night headlights only illuminate out about 100 feet in front of the vehicle creating a black line with almost no visibility above the line and extremely limited side visibility which creates a significant problem when turning in either direction at an intersection and makes it difficult to spot animals, pedestrians or bicyclists.

14 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2016

Unsafe head lights and the supposed updated headlight are only good for 12 months or 12,000 miles. . The replacements have both burned out already at $50 each.

15 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2016

Headlights are so dim, (high and low beam), that they should be considered a serious safety issue.

16 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2016

On the night of 11/04/2016 we almost hit a person that was not visible to us because of inadequate factory headlights on all GMC 1500 trucks. We have had our truck in for warranty complaint on these light, and after 3 dealers in 3 different state the fix they use does not correct the problem. And now gm customer relations e- mail me and state they have done all they can do and closes our claim. Nhtsa needs to look in to this ASAP before some one is killed, I am now afraid to drive this truck after dark.

17 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2016

Headlights: you can not drive this truck after dark because the headlights are unsafe. When on low beam there is a black spot from about 3 feet up and there is no side light. This makes it imposable to see curbs, street signs, stop signs, humans and animals on the side of the road street or highway.

18 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the visibility had been extremely poor for the oem head lamp assemblies and the day time running lights. The dealer varney Buick GMC Mazda (260 hogan rd, bangor, me 04401, 207-990-1220) had been notified several times that when the high beams had been utilized the visibility had continued to be extremely poor. The contact had limited visibility during inclement weather because of the low volume of light with the type of oem fixtures factory from the manufacturer. The manufacturer provided no remedy and no other oem light fixture with a higher volume of lighting. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and provided no further assistance. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000. Dyd.

19 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Headlights are dangerous! they produce a very narrow straight ahead light pattern. We live where there are a lot of deer and you can't see them on the side of the road. Any curve in the road and you're blind till you get around it. On a aiming board they produce a narrow vertical band of light, if you mark the horizon you find that half the light is shing up in the air. (they light up the tops of trees real nice) because of the 1 bulb design if you adjust them down to get the high beams on the horizon the low beams will only illuminate about 20 feet out. It is just not safe driving this truck in the country at night. Gm tried a brighter bulb but the improvement was very minor. The problem is the lense and shutter design.

20 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2016

The headlights on my 2015 GMC sierra are dangerous. They do not produce a sufficient amount of light to cover the driving area. While driving at night the sides of the road are not visible nor are what lies ahead if any curvature is involved. It is to the point where I try to avoid driving it at night. The ones who do not complain either live in town where street lights are present to assist with lighting or they are not driving at night.

21 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2016

Headlight illumination extremely poor. Even after TSB bulb replacement was completed on vehicle, low and high beam illumination is unsafe and unacceptable.

22 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2016

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the headlights failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was repaired under a manufacturer warranty program, however the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000.

23 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

Hard to drive at night. Headlights do not illuminate roadway very well. And rainy night almost impossible to see with headlight and driving lights on.

24 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2016

Issue: headlights do not provide sufficient light for night driving. Unless driving in a well lit neighborhood, these headlights do not provide safe lighting for driving. I can not drive this vehicle at night. The warranty only provided different light bulbs which are no better. These headlights need recalled immediately!.

25 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2016

The headlights are very dim and dangerous in this vehicle. Very difficult to see at night and dangerous when raining. It's been like this from when I bought it. Lighting should be better on a $50k truck.

26 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2016

The illumination performance of the headlights on my 2015 GMC sierra is unsatisfactory for driving on rural roads. The performance is also subpar in foggy and wet conditions. I feel that I am unable to drive safely at the posted highway speeds using the current headlights provided by the automaker. I feel that it is a safety hazard and could possibly contribute to hazardous driving situations at night. I also feel that it could cause a potential accident due to the poor visibility at posted highway speeds.

27 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2016

Headlights are terrible, output and pattern are poor, very little lateral illumination. Unsafe to drive at night in rural area. Driving in rain, very dangerous. Get eye strain and headache.

28 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2016

Headlights are a mfg defect and this truck is extremely dangers to drive after dark.

29 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2016

I own a 2015 GMC sierra. I believe the headlights are too dim. A few days after purchasing my truck new off the lot I missed turning on my street (that I have lived on for 3 years) because I was not able to see the sign or the road properly. I ended up in my neighbor's ditch. Luckily there was no damage, but I don't feel safe driving at night on familiar roads due to the insufficient amount light the headlights produce. This occurred while driving after dark on a residential road with 35 mph speed limits. There was not any additional street lighting around to provide supplemental lighting.

30 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2016

Projector-style headlamps on 2015 GMC sierra provide inadequate illumination-even after manufacturer service bulletin was performed, still very unsafe to drive at night in area with no street lights-literally no side illumination, and distance in front of vehicle is not illuminated adequately. GMC (gm) changed headlamp design in 2016 to correct this, but has offered no assistance to owners of 2014-15 vehicles. I've had several close calls with deer at night due to such poor lighting. My previous, 10 yr. Old truck had better headlights! hopefully something can be done to correct this issue. Complained to dealer, to GMC customer service, now what? seems the manufacturer has no plans to help. Headlamp design was poor, only uses a single halogen bulb for high & low beam.

31 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2016

The performance of the GMC headlights seems to be way below par. This truck has the worst headlights I have ever owned. In my opinion this is a safety hazard to myself and the public.

32 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

The headlights equipped from the factory on these very expensive trucks are dangerous. When driving in conditions of low light, there is such little illumination from the headlights that it would be difficult if not impossible to avoid a collision due to minimal reaction time. Both the high and low beam do not provide sufficient lighting for diving safely in low light conditions. These are the most poorly performing lights I can remember ever having from any manufacturer.

33 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2015

Headlights on this vehicle are useless, can"t see driving at night and always feel like I'm overdriving the lights even though I'm not even at the speed limit!.

34 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2015

Headlights are so dim that I can't see down the road far enough to see if there would be anything in the road. Have repeatedly asked dealer about this, and was told they were aware of the problem but there was no plan to fix it. On rainy nights it's as if I have no headlights at all.

35 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2015

I previously sent in a compliant on this matter several months ago. The headlights are poor. This is a dangerous condition, they do not project out significantly and the side illumination is nonexistent. I found out on my own that their is a service bulletin on this matter. I took my vehicle back to the dealer, who changed the light bulbs, the improvement is marginal at best. I am extremely cautious if I need to drive the vehicle at night. This is a dangerous condition.
