1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2026

Electrical system…battery is completely dead after short in tailgate button. Yesterday afternoon I washed out the bed and tailgate. This is important to know as a result of my research. Several hours later I go out to the truck and the tailgate is open unexpectedly, thought I had left it opened. After going to dinner and shopping with family I tried to open tailgate with tailgate button and it would not work. After several attempts I then used my fob button, worked. The next morning I go out and the tailgate is opened not by me, I closed it. Got to my destination put truck in park and tailgate opened by itself. I closed it. Went inside grabbed what I needed 15 min later go back to truck and tailgate is open. . I close it. I go to start truck and battery is dead. Confirmed by battery plus in medford oregon. Did some research and see that a recall has been issued for this same reason: n232426400 tailgate may open unexpectedly. Yes the recall does not cover my vim however I believe this needs to be as a result of the cause and effect you have already confirmed. Today is Sunday. I will contact local GMC dealer though I wanted to start a formal process.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2026

Vehicle battery dies and dealer cannot source issue. Voltmeter shows large fluctuations in voltage while vehicle is running and driving.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2026

2022 GMC sierra the tailgate is electrical which cause safety awareness and concern due to the tailgate opening by itself. The tailgate seems to continuously electronically open and continue to release the latch causing the tail gate to open possibly loosing cargo from the bed or tailgate opening and hitting other vehicles that may park too close or cause damage on a hitch if available. It is a persisten issue and I have seen too many complaints. This should be looked at and recalled by manufacture or dealers it’s become a very common issues for GMC trucks and a lot of upset customers. I’m one of them.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2026

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the driver's side seat vibrated, and the automatic high beam feature disengaged, and the lane change indicator became inoperable. The message " crash sensor system inoperable" was displayed. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to temporarily disconnect the battery. The contact followed the instruction; however, the failure recurred a day later. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that there was a glitch in the crash sensor system. The dealer determined that the system needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired out-of-pocket. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the failure was a maintenance issue, and the repair was at the owner's expense. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2026

Tailgate opens randomly on numerous occasions. Sometimes it won't open after pressing the button.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2026

The front forward-facing camera module has failed, causing cruise control and driver-assistance features to become inoperative. Dealer diagnosis indicates the front camera must be replaced and recalibrated in order to restore cruise control and safety systems. This failure disables cruise control and driver-assist features that were standard equipment on the vehicle at purchase, resulting in a sudden loss of functionality while driving. The dealer has provided a repair estimate of approximately $1,150, including parts, labor, and required calibration, at owner expense. Based on similar reports from other owners, this appears to be a recurring issue affecting this model year.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2026

To start off my truck has been to the dealership multiple time for the camera. After third time in the shop they fixed that issue. Then the infotainment started acting up after about 4 times in the shop it was fixed. They gave me the prescribed fix for the engine recall in November. Engine passed the test. Then 3 weeks ago the engine siezed up from the crank and bearings on the interstate doing 70 pulling a trailer in traffic. Leaveing me and my dad in the middle of the interstate. I had to have it towed 2 hours to my house. After the prescribed engine fix. They replaced the motor in 3 days. Great right? no they did not test drive long enough. Or they would have felt the shudder that developed after the new engine went in. It is now about to go back to the shop. Because of the shudder at low rpm and im haveing electrical issues again as well . My remote start also stopped working after the engine replacement.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2026

Setting in a parking lot and the tailgate fell open and hit another car. The tailgate was closed and has fell open 3 more times while the vehicle is in park and one time it was powered off.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2025

Lost brakes and couldn’t stop the truck.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2025

The windshield defroster and heater blower speed reduces and/or shuts off shortly after accelerating to highway range speeds. Blowing snow from alaska roads will melt and refreeze on the windshield reducing visibility creating a safety hazard. The truck has not been successfully repaired after multiple and lengthy attempts. The heated steering wheel also malfunctions intermittently. The blower motor does seem to come back up to speed when vehicle speed is reduced to city speeds but is intermittent also.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2025

1. )when driving the vehicle it will randomly shutoff while driving with loss of brakes and steering until it will randomly turn back on. The vehicle experiences intermittent electronic and drivability malfunctions. The issue appears to involve one or more vehicle control modules and/or electronic systems. At times, warning lights and system messages appear, and vehicle performance is affected. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2. )these failures create a serious safety risk because they occur without warning while driving. The vehicle may lose normal functionality, display multiple warnings, or behave unpredictably. If this occurs in traffic, at speed, or while maneuvering, it could increase the risk of a crash or leave the vehicle stranded in an unsafe location. Furthermore on 3 separate circumstances I came close to crashing the vehicle putting at risk lives in the vehicle and outside. 3. )the problem is intermittent and has been difficult to reproduce on demand. I have taken the truck to the dealership multiple times. The dealership has stated that because the issue is not actively occurring when they have the vehicle, they have been unable to duplicate the concern and have instructed me to continue driving it until the issue happens again. Despite this, the problem continues to return during normal use. 4. )the vehicle has been inspected by the authorized dealership on multiple occasions. To my knowledge, it has not been inspected directly by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. 5. )intermittent warning lights and system messages appear, including at times a check engine light and other alerts. These warnings may appear suddenly as the truck shuts off and then disappear after the vehicle is turned off and restarted. Another thing to point out is that the audio and turn signal chime cut off randomly. The issue first began while the vehicle was already in normal use and has continued to reoccur since.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2025

Tailgate unlatched by itself, first time I was connected to a trailer and it damaged the tailgate. Multiple (4+) times afterwards while being parked in garage tailgate opens by itself all during the same day could not get this to stop. Called dealership today for appointment where they could get me in the shop in the middle of the week, but they told me that this issue is known but not covered under my VIN.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2025

Telematics module failed directly after update, vehicle is outside of warranty (by mileage) but only 3 years old. No gps, onstar, and several other features that rely on this system to operate. Several dealers would not even look at it when calling for appointment, one dealer stated that the part was on back order for up to 2 years and did not want to waste the time to look at it. Upon research, this appears to be a very common problem on all gm models with similar outcome.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2025

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the tailgate opened unintendedly. The contact stated that the failure occurred while the vehicle was idling or while parked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the failure was caused by a corroded wire. The dealer determined that the wire and the tailgate switch needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that the vehicle was not included in a recall or covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired but was scheduled for repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. The VIN was not available.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2025

Every time I pull the truck into my garage or a parking stall at low speeds while using the front park sensor it will shut off with the automatic start stop while still in motion. Then you have to let off the brake pedal for it to start and sometimes the vehicle will search forward.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2025

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph hauling a trailer going downhill, the engine seized. The vehicle was difficult to control. The message to “shift to neutral and restart" was displayed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver attempted to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the running boards were stuck outwards. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where the engine was replaced after two months. The dealer informed the contact that the battery was completely drained. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 67,500.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2025

My 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 shows message "shift to park" when turning off, even though it has been shifted to park. Have to play with shifter to get it to stop, sometimes turning it back on and off will do trick. Locking it with remote works most of the time but this last time it took over 10 minutes .

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2025

Engine has had recall and still no remedy for it. Paint is chipping off and back locks stopped workingp.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2025

The dealer is telling me there is a faulty engine coolant, flow control valve on this vehicle and multiple other people are having the same issue. The part is on backorder and takes months to arrive. They are telling me I can drive the vehicle, but it becomes a safety issue because the engine thinks it is overheating and goes into reduced acceleration mode, which can impact safely driving the vehicle. Pulling out in traffic and not being able to accelerate can be extremely dangerous.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2025

Hello, I wish to report this injury / incident with the failure of the power running boards on my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 denali limited. There are no warning lamps on the vehicle. The truck is regularly serviced and inspected. The truck recently had a multi-point inspection at the dealer. The power running boards started to come out after I opened my door, as I stepped down, the steps retracted and went back in causing me to fall hard on the ground and smash my knees. Driver and passenger sides are now acting up, even with the truck parked and locked, passenger side wants to go in and out on its own and sometimes extends to the tire. As I researched this problem, I found out that others have had similar issues with the same vehicles that have these power running boards. I removed the fuse now to prevent further injuries.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2025

Tailgate comes unlatched and tailgate came down multiple times in motion and parked. Safety concerns loosing cargo and causing accidents. My vehicle is not included in the recall and dealer cannot help only repair for 146. 80. I feel that my vehicle should be included to the already existing recall and reimbursement for repair.

24 Electrical System problem

Intermittent failure of audio and safety alerts (forward collision alert, lane departure warning) dealership’s response: “no fix” despite warranty. Safety impact: increased collision risk.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2025

My onstar is not working this is a hazard for me since the truck cannot be tracked if stolen or even worse if a accident does happen there is no way for onstar to help . My subscription is up to date and paid and now the dealer is telling me the truck has a issue with the onstar module.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2025

While driving my 2022 GMC sierra denali 6. 2l truck, it somehow turned off. I placed it on neutral and tried to turn on, but it didn’t. I maneuvered to stop at the side of the road, but I was not close enough to the curb making it uncomfortable for others to drive around. I tried again to turn on the truck, but it didn’t. Before and after everything looked good, there were no symptoms or warning lights on the truck. I gave it a break and tried to turn in the truck, but it didn’t. I called gm roadside asst. , and I got towed to the closed gm services. They found out that battery was damaged, and an open starter fuse damaged. They changed the battery, the fuse block, and did the multi-point vehicle inspection (mpvi), and everything seemed good. I picked up my truck, and on my way back home the engine stopped running. At this time I get into a left turn lane, and I was able to stop before the stop line. This time I was in the middle of the road. I turned on the hazard warning lights, but too many cars turning left pass through making it dangerous to my safety and others. I called the service department where my truck was serviced and gm roadside asst. , and it got towed to the same service place. All this process was again around 2 hours in the middle of the road. They checked the truck, and found out that the battery was damaged, and an open starter fuse again. They changed, but this time they kept it on test to the next day and the starter fuse was damaged again. They found that the engine was locked, which is why the starter heats up and the amperage consumption increases, opening the fuse, the engine does not turn easily, the oil is at the correct level, it does not indicate low pressure in the initial driving test. They removed the oil pan and found metal particles in the oil and in the pan. After that they removed the rod bearings and can see that they are scratched and overheated, crankshaft scratched as well. Need order a new engine, oil cooler, oil cooler lines.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2025

Hi, I was driving on the turnpike and my radio volume went to full volume 100% by itself. The radio would not shut off and none of the controls would work, everything froze. I kept turning the volume button down and the volume bar on the screen showed that it was trying to minimize, but it wouldn't stay. It kept going to full volume. Finally, after I kept pushing the off and mute buttons, the radio shut off and was unresponsive. When I reached my destination and shut the truck off and restarted it, the radio then worked as it normally should. This happened to me yesterday, and I'm still having trouble hearing and my ears hurt. I researched this online and found that there are many other people that had this same scenario with their sierra. I wanted to reach out and report this. Thank you steve janosco.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2025

Radio software glitch (bulletin 23-na-183) cuts blower fan speed to 50% or below resulting in ineffective defrost during winter months. Gm knows of the issue and has a radio software update but will not complete this as warranty and/or recall and will demand you pay for the correction. Due to the uncontrolled and loss of power to fan that cannot be corrected by the owner (ex. Turning radio off/on will not fix it) this has become a serious safety concern as the windshield can fog, frost, or freeze while driving the vehicle.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2025

Driving 70 mph on highway and the engine shut off. Dash says shift to park to restart. Pulled over and put the vehicle in park and pressed engine start. Vehicle did not start back up. (no crank no start) vehicle locked in park and wont shift. Vehicle was towed to my house. Replaced battery bus bar and vehicle started back up. Test drove and shut off again in my driveway. Will not restart. No engine light on. 124k miles on it. No warning of this happening. Vehicle randomly will shut off. Sometimes it turns on. Been parked since January in my garage for safety concerns until I learn of a repair.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2024

Infotainment system volume shot up full blast on its own with no operator control or influence. The volume of music was so high that it was hard to concentrate on driving while trying to reduce the volume and could not. Had to pull over on the side of the road and shut off vehicle to get the volume to go down. This could be a potential safety risk when driving at higher speeds causing the driver to not concentrate on the road and other surrounding vehicles. I reported issue to dealership and have not had it looked at yet as it has only happened one time. The volume indicator flashed on the screen and showed the volume indicator bar going up to full blast. No other indicators or warning were present at the time.
