Driving on the interstate at speed and all of a sudden a loss of power, christmas tree of lights on the dash and low oil pressure alarms. Engine now needs replacement.
While driving at 72moh, the engine started to knock/tick and then shifted into neutral indicating to press the start button again. Once I coasted to a stop, the truck shifted into park by itself and indicated to hit the start button again at which point it was completely locked up and inoperable. The vehicle had an engine replaced at 13,000 miles and currently has 54,000 miles on it. It now needs another complete engine replacement. The vehicle also had the recall inspection done in Dec/2025 and found no issues.
Vehicle burns approximately 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles.
While driving on the road the vehicle started sputtering and stalled! we pulled to the side of the road and tried to start the car but it rolled and would not start. We called a a mechanic who had it towed and found out that the fuel pump and the fuel control board had failed. Both have been replaced and the truck seems to be working again. Heard several other persons had this issue with their gcm sierra elevation so we wanted to report since there is currently no recall. Luckily the traffic was not going that fast or we could have had an accident and been seriously injured.
The failure involved the engine (6. 2l l87 v8), specifically suspected internal components such as the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, as identified in a current recall. The vehicle is currently located at dennis gm in corner brook, newfoundland and is available for inspection. On March 9, while driving the vehicle normally on a main highway, the engine suddenly lost all power without warning. The accelerator became completely unresponsive and the vehicle rolled to a stop in the middle of a main highway. The engine would not restart. Due to the electronic gear selector, the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral, leaving both the truck and trailer immobilized in a live traffic lane. This created a serious safety risk to myself and other motorists, especially as I was in an area without cellular service and could not immediately call for assistance. The problem has not yet been formally diagnosed, as the vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting inspection. However, the symptoms are consistent with known failures described in the recall affecting these engines. The vehicle had previously undergone recall inspection on September 1, 2025 and was cleared at that time. The vehicle has been inspected previously by an authorized gm dealer as part of the recall process, but no defect was identified. It has since been towed to dennis gm following the failure and is pending further inspection. No police or insurance inspections have been conducted. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. The engine failure was sudden and without any indication of an issue beforehand.
The truck currently has 48000 miles. The 6. 2l l87 engine was replaced at 17000 miles. A few weeks ago, I parked it, went to a ballgame, came back 4 hours later and started the truck. Drove it approximately 500 feet and lights started flashing on the dash. It was running rough, had loos of power, and sounded like a diesel. I immediately shut it off and had it towed to a dealer. The lifter on the number 3 cylinder stuck and bent the pushrod. The dealer replaced all lifters on that side of the engine. This all happened after it was checked for the recall and the thicker oil was put in.
The motor stoped working 6. 2. Left me stranded in the middle of the road. No warning, the engine just gave up and stopped working. As well as the grill flying away and breaking my windshield, this happened last year in February while driving 75 mph.
The engine decided to make some noise and all I heard was ching ching ching, and it just died and I was unable to start it again.
My GMC sierra denali 2022 equipped with the 6. 2 motor locked up while I was driving pulling me out of the road.
The coolant control valve failed. This is a known failure point of poor design and on every other truck from 2019-2023 with the duramx lm2/lz0 engine, they are covered by a special service warranty to 150,000 miles. Gm knows this items fails and puts consumers lives at risk when the failure throws the truck into limp mode on the freeway. They refuse to do a recall to avoid doing the right thing. This is deceptive and wrong.
The vehicle is subject to safety recall n252494001 (NHTSA campaign 25v-274) due to manufacturing defects in the engine crankshaft and connecting rod bearings. • component/system failed: the 6. 2l v8 (l87) engine crankshaft and connecting rod assembly. The engine is available for inspection upon request. • safety risk: the defect can cause catastrophic engine damage and sudden loss of propulsion while driving, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. • dealer/manufacturer confirmation: the problem was confirmed via the issuance of safety recall n252494001. A dealership inspection was performed previously as part of the recall. • warning signs/symptoms: common symptoms include engine knocking, check engine lights, and hesitation before sudden failure. The issue with the remedy: federal law (49 u. S. C. § 30120) requires manufacturers to remedy safety defects "without charge". As a permanent safety remedy for this defect, gm has mandated a switch from 0w-20 to 0w-40 (dexosr) oil for the life of the engine to prevent bearing failure. However, the dealership and manufacturer are refusing to provide this mandated safety spec change without an ongoing $85 surcharge per oil change. While they performed the initial "inspection" oil change for free, they are now using the recall-mandated spec change to create a financial burden on the consumer. Because 0w-40 is now the mandatory factory requirement to prevent the safety defect, charging a premium for it constitutes a failure to provide the recall remedy "without charge. " general motors refuses to offset this cost, effectively penalizing the owner for a manufacturer safety defect. The dealership is also failing to honor my platinum wrap warranty and gm prepaid service contract to perform the continued oil changes without additional charges.
While driving I get a reduced acceleration warning on my dash cluster, drastically reducing horse power. My check engine light came on. This has happened before. I checked the code and it was a p1098 code. After researching I found out it was the engine coolant control valve. My fan is constantly running. This issue is ongoing. This seems to be a common occurrence with my vehicle year.
L87 catastrophic engine failure on second engine after 6300 miles. This is the second issue with the 6. 2l engine in my Sierra 1500. The first engine passed the l87 engine loss of propulsion field action and then suffered catastrophic engine failure a month later. The replacement engine procedure took over 3 weeks to perform and no rental or loaner vehicle was provided by gm or the servicing dealership. The vehicle is currently in the service department at another dealership awaiting the 2nd engine replacement, but it has been over 2 weeks since the engine failure. This servicing dealer has provided a vehicle to use. This has been a very frustrating ordeal and I feel that resell and value of this vehicle has been compromised and gm has done nothing to offset this with me.
Engine recall 6. 2 l-87 , after pico scoop test, which my truck passed, its using 2 plus quarts of oil per 1000 miles, the dealer has it and is saying they can find nothing wrong per the gm tech that is telling them to check this and that. Ok, oil is going somewhere, I want the motor replaced , they want to continue the oil consumption test, my thing is wasting my time to continue driving and bring back to it back for a low oil reading, its not gonna fix its self by driving it. I understand gm wants to figure out why, but it should not be at customers time , replace the motor all ready, something is wrong. The first 1000 miles after a oil change and they put die in the oil to check for leaks. When they check the oil level Friday 02/06/26 the oil did not read on the dip stick.
54k miles. Crankshaft failure. Truck shut off and put in neutral while driving with no codes on dash. Got a text saying to service engine and transmission immediately. On a side note, it is bullshit that you can't put the truck in neutral to get it off the road. The dealership is also doing a great job covering it and offering a loaner.
My vehicle stop running as I approached a traffic signal and failed to restart, it happened at a heavy traffic intersection during morning commute,I had the vehicle towed to dealership that same day (01-22-2026). Later that evening the dealership called to inform me that the motor was blown and had ordered a new one. The mileage is approximately 39,285.
To start off my truck has been to the dealership multiple time for the camera. After third time in the shop they fixed that issue. Then the infotainment started acting up after about 4 times in the shop it was fixed. They gave me the prescribed fix for the engine recall in November. Engine passed the test. Then 3 weeks ago the engine siezed up from the crank and bearings on the interstate doing 70 pulling a trailer in traffic. Leaveing me and my dad in the middle of the interstate. I had to have it towed 2 hours to my house. After the prescribed engine fix. They replaced the motor in 3 days. Great right? no they did not test drive long enough. Or they would have felt the shudder that developed after the new engine went in. It is now about to go back to the shop. Because of the shudder at low rpm and im haveing electrical issues again as well . My remote start also stopped working after the engine replacement.
I purchased my vehicle in June 2025. In January of 2026 the vehicle would sometimes shut down at red lights, requiring me to restart. No engine codes would pop up. On Jan. 16th, 2026, I exited my vehicle and heard a “cow bell clunking” coming from the engine area. I scheduled a service, and I was informed that the issue was part of the gm recall for 6. 2l engines. This concerned me, because my vehicle had already had the “remedy” for the recall (changing engine oil type) prior to me purchasing it certified pre-owned, and the engine still failed. The dealer I brought the truck to did a full engine (and appropriate parts) replacement as part of the open recall.
After I had the car inspected per thier recall on potential engines issues, the car passed and was told no issues. 6 months later driving on highway with family during rush hour and suffered complete engine failure going 70 mph. Lucky not to have been hit from behind. Scary to be on highway like that. It was freezing outside. Dont understand being told car is fine and then this happens.
My gm dealership completed the gm 6. 2 engine inspection and recommended oil replacement as part of the 6. 2 engine recall. Roughly 5,000 miles after this service, the engine failed. I attempted to accelerate from 45-65 miles per hour while getting on the highway, and the engine seized up. I was able to coast/steer the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle's starter could not crank the engine. I had the vehicle towed to the shop where the dealership confirmed the engine had seized. The dealership and gm replaced the engine under a warranty repair. I am making you aware of this situation, as the manufacturers suggested solution to the engine issue (the change in oil type, filter and cap) did not prevent the engine from failing.
Bought truck 0n 12/26/2025 from lot in michigan had it transported to missouri. First time I drive it check engine comes on and goes into "limp mode". Had it towed to gm dealer and they say it was the high pressure fuel pump. Got it back and check engine light comes back on then goes off then back on again. Not happy at all!!!.
Radiator is leaking where plastic meets metal. Leaking coolant at upper corner driver side. This is crazy for a 70k truck. It is a known problem. Dealer refused to submit a claim to gm. I am seeing people get theses replaced. It has been an issue since coolant control valve was replaced.
I had a lifter fail which is a well known problem for these gm engines. The lifter caused the cam shaft to be damaged because of the lobes being shaved off. Now I’m being told that it will be over $10,000 fix a 3 year old truck.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the check engine and several other warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle almost stalled and then lunged forward. The vehicle was driven back to the residence, and a local dealer was contacted. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling) by the same dealer. The contact stated that the dealer had tested the engine and added thicker viscosity oil. The contact related the failure to the recall work. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
See attached document for complaint.
Complete engine failure, at 57,000 miles, was driving approximately 75 mph on the I-15 in utah outside of st. George, and the left lane, engine turned off, was able to pull safely in a shoulder in a canyon with my family, my wife, my kids 8 and 10 years old. Vehicle was towed that evening at 7 pm to the dealership, where it was diagnosed with completed engine failure.
There was engine failure whereby the pushrods were ticking extremely hard. After towing the vehicle to the repair shop, it was determined that a new engine would be needed. The cost for repair was $11,500. 00 dollars. The original engine has approximately 75,000 miles.
On November 16, while driving on the highway, my GMC vehicle suddenly lost engine power without warning. I was forced to stop in traffic, creating a dangerous situation and putting my life at risk. The vehicle required towing and has remained at the dealership since that date. The dealership determined that the engine requires replacement. Repairs have been significantly delayed, including an incorrectly ordered replacement engine, and the vehicle remains out of service more than two months later. This defect caused a sudden loss of power while driving and presents a serious safety concern. After the incident, I contacted the dealership immediately. Diagnostic appointments were scheduled and then canceled by the dealership twice, which delayed inspection and repair. I was only able to leave the vehicle at the dealership on December 12 due to these delays.
The engine in my vehicle has failed twice while driving at highway speed. Both times, the engine suddenly stalled without warning, causing an immediate loss of propulsion, lighting, and steering assist. Each failure occurred at night, and I had to coast to the shoulder in the dark with limited control while other vehicles traveled at high speed. During the second incident, two children were in the vehicle. Both events created a serious risk of a collision or injury. The failure involves the primary propulsion system. After the first incident, the dealer replaced the engine and performed recall-related updates. Months later, the replacement engine failed in the same way. The dealer inspected the vehicle after each incident, confirmed the failures, and is replacing the engine again. The issue has therefore been reproduced and verified by the service center. There were no warning lights, messages, noises, or drivability symptoms before either failure. The engine stalled suddenly both times. A separate exterior trim piece, previously repaired under a recall, also detached while driving, adding an additional hazard. Both engine failures and the sudden loss of lighting and power created a clear and immediate safety risk to occupants and surrounding traffic. The repeated nature of the defect after a full engine replacement raises concern that the underlying issue has not been resolved.
My truck went into "limp" mode and had very little power. It was towed to the dealership where they diagnosed the issue as a bad solenoid causing the engine misfires. The solenoid was replaced, but the issue was not fixed. Now the dealership is stating the engine has bent lifters and the repairs will not be covered under the ongoing massive engine recall. The vehicle had the pico test on 9/17 and it "passed", but less than 3k miles later and the engine failed. This is a clear safety issue and well known by NHTSA and gm. Now I'm negotiating with the dealership to cover repairs and my truck has been gone nearly a month.
My 2022 GMC sierra denali limited (6. 2l l87) had an engine recall performed by an authorized GMC dealer (paul masse Buick GMC) in November 2025. Prior to the recall service, the vehicle had no check-engine lights, no drivability issues, and no knock-related symptoms. Immediately after picking up the vehicle from the recall service, the check-engine light illuminated within seconds of leaving the dealership parking lot. I returned the vehicle immediately. The dealer diagnosed a failed knock sensor and replaced it at my expense. There were no prior warning signs or symptoms before the recall visit. General motors declined responsibility, classifying the issue as an out-of-warranty repair and confirming only that the recall procedure was followed. Gm did not evaluate whether dealer handling, component disturbance, or recall-related activity contributed to the immediate failure. I am submitting this complaint because the failure occurred directly after recall service, suggesting a possible recall-adjacent issue or unintended consequence of recall procedures, and because gm declined to investigate causation beyond procedural compliance.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local o'reilly's, who diagnosed that the cylinder #2 glow plug had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the manufacturer's special coverage that was related to the failure. The contact stated that the special coverage service was for the previous model years with a 3. 0-liter turbo diesel engine that had experienced the same failure. The failure mileage was 38,773.
Purchased vehicle in July 2025. Started having the engine failure issues described in recall "l87 engine loss of propulsion (related field action: see special coverage n252494003)". Gm says that the recall work was completed in may of 2025, however, the same exact issue as described in the recall exists. Engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. We believe the recall fix was not performed properly as vehicle has same issue. Dealership has not helped us and gm referred us to you.
My GMC dealer falsely reported that recall work was completed on my engine but it was proven by an independent service center that it was not done. Items that have been proven to have not happened were 1. Replace engine oil with higher viscosity oil, 2. Replace oil filter to match new oil, 3. New oil fill cap labeled with oil type, 4. New insert for owner's manual. The way I initially learned the work was not completed was by warnings on my dash about low oil pressure and low oil level in my engine this past weekend. The independent service center provided confirmation that the invoice from my GMC dealer was falsified and that the work they stated was completed was not done. As a result of the failure to complete the work, my engine ran on insufficient oil and, based on the dirtiness of the oil in my engine, it compromised its condition.
Took truck in for recall on sept. 19th, it passed and oil was changed per recall. On Nov 1, driving on ih 20. Engine oil pressure went to 0 and engine stopped. The dash showed that oil pressure was low and to pull over vehicle. I was going 75 mph at time. Pulled to emergency lane and engine died. Had to tow to dealer. It was very unsafe due to speed and traffic on highway. At no other time was there any indication of engine problem.
