I was driving at 45 mph and all of a sudden the screens went black as if the truck was turned off and the first thing I did was turn on the hazards because I didn’t know if the engine shut off either there was on coming traffic from both my front and back so I was scared my truck shut off 5-7 seconds later the screens turned back on and everything went back to normal but I was scared that my truck just turned off I made the dealership aware of this issue as soon as I pulled over and they said they had a busy schedule and that they would try to have a manager reach out to me to “squeeze me in” mind you I just got my truck back from the dealership due to electrical issues and service yesterday and not even 24 hours later this happened so I am upset.
Loud knocking noise started while motor is running. Took to dealer who confirmed the noise and inspected. Metal confirmed in the oil pan and throughout motor. Service advisor said a new motor will be needed and has sent info to gm. This vehicle was checked per the recall and passed the pico test. Oil was changed to new gm 0-40 by dealer.
On June 1, 2026 driving eastbound on I-64 in louisville, ky. Engine shut-off warning popped up and engine immediately shut off. There were no prior warnings or unusual engine or noises. 3 passengers in car. Had to change 2 lanes and then onto shoulder while coasting and slowing down. Car was incapacitated and gave battery and 0% oil read. Oil is changed regularly and engine recall work had been performed on truck several months prior. Car at dealership, not analyzed or repaired yet.
On November 20, 2025, my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 at4 equipped with the 3. 0l duramax diesel engine began experiencing intermittent engine overheating conditions. Concerned about a potential safety issue, I contacted a GMC dealership and was advised that because no diagnostic trouble codes were present, there was nothing to diagnose or repair and that I should continue driving the vehicle. Over the following months, the overheating condition continued intermittently. On may 24, 2026, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly overheated, displayed fault code p1098, and entered reduced power ("limp mode"). The vehicle lost normal performance and acceleration while traveling in traffic. This created a significant safety hazard because the vehicle was unable to maintain normal highway speeds, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or other traffic accident. The loss of power occurred while driving and without sufficient warning, leaving the vehicle unable to safely perform as expected in highway traffic. After researching this issue, I found numerous reports from other GMC and Chevrolet owners describing similar overheating, coolant control valve, thermal management system, and p1098-related failures. Many owners report symptoms involving engine overheating, reduced engine power, and limp mode operation while driving. I am concerned that this may indicate a broader defect involving the vehicle's cooling system and thermal management components. The vehicle exhibited overheating symptoms for approximately six months before the final failure occurred. Additionally, I understand that certain gm vehicles have been subject to service actions involving coolant control valves and thermal management system components. Given the similarity of symptoms, I am concerned that the overheating condition reported in November 2025 may be related to the same type of failure mechanism, yet my vehicle has not been included in any recall or special coverage program.
Our truck has the gm 6. 2l v8 engine in it. We had the “recall” done where they recommended thicker oil. Despite that recall work we still had catastrophic engine failure and gm’s solution is terrible. A new engine that can have the same issue?.
I am reporting two separate stall/loss of propulsion events on my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 denali limited (VIN: [xxx] ), which is subject to NHTSA recall #25v274000 and gm special coverage xxx (l87 engine loss of propulsion). Incident 1 — April 16, 2026: while decelerating off a highway exit ramp, the vehicle stalled without warning. The dashboard prompted me to shift to neutral and restart. I performed a rolling restart successfully and continued driving. This stall occurred while decelerating on a highway exit ramp with vehicles traveling at highway speeds behind me. The sudden and unexpected loss of propulsion created a significant rear-end collision risk. Incident 2 — April 17, 2026 (next day): while traveling at approximately 40 mph and climbing a hill under load, the vehicle stalled a second time. The dashboard again prompted a neutral restart. This time the vehicle would not restart. All I heard was a single click from the starter, followed by a complete dash reboot. The vehicle lost all power repeatedly upon restart attempts. I was stranded on a narrow, high-speed rural road in standish, maine during rush hour, with vehicles passing at speed. I was in serious danger. The vehicle was towed to weirs GMC in arundel, maine (the selling dealer), where it currently remains for diagnosis under ro# xxx. Both stall concerns are documented as warranty pay. Additional concern: since the day after purchase (March 28, 2026), I have noticed a pronounced cold-start tick originating from the bottom end of the engine, confirmed by an independent mechanic as coming from inside the engine. This vehicle passed a recall #25v274000 inspection on December 28, 2025 at 98,233 miles. The tick and stall events began after that inspection. I am requesting this be formally documented as a safety complaint tied to recall #25v274000 and special coverage xxx. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I have the gm 6. 2 l engine in my 2022 denali and had the recall pico test performed August 20th 2025 and the truck passed, they changed the oil and cap and I was good to go supposedly. 5,000 miles later I had the oil changed again and everything looked fine, I drove the truck another approximately 1500 miles and the engine suddenly seized with no indications and no warning. That occurred on April 12th 2026. It is now may 3rd 2026 and I am still waiting for an engine.
We were driving down the interstate at speed and the engine shut off unexpectedly. The truck flashed a notification on the dash asking to turn it back on. Pressing the on button would not turn the truck on. The tow truck company also couldn't get it to shift into neutral so he had to drag it up the tow truck after getting towed to a dealership they told us they had no one to look at it that day so we got a hotel room 5 hours from home and in the morning they said the engine is siezed and will need to be replaced.
Coolant control valve failed. Seems to be a known issue with year make and model but not all VIN have been approved for special warranty despite occurring on same vehicle.
I own a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 at4. The vehicle developed a clear engine knocking noise. I first brought the vehicle to the dealership while under 150,000 miles for inspection related to a recall. The dealership only performed a computer scan and oil change and stated no issue was found. No mechanical inspection was performed despite the noise. The issue continued and worsened. I returned to the dealership and the vehicle was kept for three days. During that time, the dealership again denied the existence of the noise and stated the vehicle was operating normally. When I picked up the vehicle, I immediately noticed the same noise and requested the technician to inspect it again. At that time, the technician acknowledged the noise and confirmed it was related to the recall. Despite this acknowledgment, general motors declined to repair the engine and closed the case, offering only partial assistance toward purchasing a new vehicle instead of fixing the defect. The failure to properly diagnose the issue during the initial visit and the subsequent denial during the second inspection allowed a safety-related mechanical defect to worsen. This condition may result in engine failure or sudden loss of power while driving, creating a serious safety risk. The engine noise indicates a potential internal failure which could lead to sudden loss of power while driving, creating a safety risk. The initial failure to properly diagnose the issue may have allowed a safety-related defect to worsen beyond repair. Ticking at cold start. 4/02/26 on way home from work. Truck loses acceleration while driving. Bug jumps then display says low power mode. Truck will start but will not move forward or in reverse. Rpms increase but no propulsion. Recall was performed 11/17/25 and passed inspection through romain GMC evansville, in. Called romain on 4/02/26 and was told someone would return my call 4/03/26. Still waiting. Plan to call kate faupal dealership in henderson,ky on 4/06/26.
16 year old was driving down the interstate, truck stopped accelerating out of no where and lost speed while in the middle lane. Steering wheel locked up, car showed oil pressure issue. Was told to shift to neutral and restart. Barely made it to the shoulder. App showed only a battery issue and no other alerts. Thankful we did not get hit as cars were flying by on either side on the interstate. Could have been a serious accident. The dealership confirmed that the engine needed to be replaced. Truck had full 50,000 mile service recently. Also, had passed the gm recall and were told the engine wasn't effected 9/20/25. No warning lights or issues prior. Completely out of the blue.
Motor spun a bearing on the crank and the vehicle is needing a new motor. 73,000 miles. Passed the gm recall inspection less than 6 months ago. Vehicle has had regular oil changes and all maintenance done on time. Engine started hard then started knocking. Made it to dealership for diagnostics.
Driving on the interstate at speed and all of a sudden a loss of power, christmas tree of lights on the dash and low oil pressure alarms. Engine now needs replacement.
I was exiting a main highway and when I let off the accelerator the engine died unexpectedly with no prior signs of failure and would not turn over to restart, luckily I was able to coast onto a side street out of the way of moderate traffic. I called gm roadside assistance and had the vehicle towed to my local dealership. The service department confirmed that the engine was seized and needed replaced. My vehicle went through the l87 recall and passed inspection last fall at 29,400 miles, had another oil change at around 33,500 miles. The engine failed at 37,800 miles. I am the original owner and have always maintained the vehicle to gm standards. I feel that the recall is not solving this problem, because the engines are failing anyway. At this time my vehicle has been at the dealership service department for three and a half weeks, and is waiting on the replacement engine. The dealership has provided a loaner vehicle.
While driving at 72moh, the engine started to knock/tick and then shifted into neutral indicating to press the start button again. Once I coasted to a stop, the truck shifted into park by itself and indicated to hit the start button again at which point it was completely locked up and inoperable. The vehicle had an engine replaced at 13,000 miles and currently has 54,000 miles on it. It now needs another complete engine replacement. The vehicle also had the recall inspection done in Dec/2025 and found no issues.
Vehicle burns approximately 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles.
While driving on the road the vehicle started sputtering and stalled! we pulled to the side of the road and tried to start the car but it rolled and would not start. We called a a mechanic who had it towed and found out that the fuel pump and the fuel control board had failed. Both have been replaced and the truck seems to be working again. Heard several other persons had this issue with their gcm sierra elevation so we wanted to report since there is currently no recall. Luckily the traffic was not going that fast or we could have had an accident and been seriously injured.
The failure involved the engine (6. 2l l87 v8), specifically suspected internal components such as the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, as identified in a current recall. The vehicle is currently located at dennis gm in corner brook, newfoundland and is available for inspection. On March 9, while driving the vehicle normally on a main highway, the engine suddenly lost all power without warning. The accelerator became completely unresponsive and the vehicle rolled to a stop in the middle of a main highway. The engine would not restart. Due to the electronic gear selector, the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral, leaving both the truck and trailer immobilized in a live traffic lane. This created a serious safety risk to myself and other motorists, especially as I was in an area without cellular service and could not immediately call for assistance. The problem has not yet been formally diagnosed, as the vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting inspection. However, the symptoms are consistent with known failures described in the recall affecting these engines. The vehicle had previously undergone recall inspection on September 1, 2025 and was cleared at that time. The vehicle has been inspected previously by an authorized gm dealer as part of the recall process, but no defect was identified. It has since been towed to dennis gm following the failure and is pending further inspection. No police or insurance inspections have been conducted. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. The engine failure was sudden and without any indication of an issue beforehand.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC sierra denali 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 73 mph the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over safely. The driver was unaware of any warning lights being illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.
The truck currently has 48000 miles. The 6. 2l l87 engine was replaced at 17000 miles. A few weeks ago, I parked it, went to a ballgame, came back 4 hours later and started the truck. Drove it approximately 500 feet and lights started flashing on the dash. It was running rough, had loos of power, and sounded like a diesel. I immediately shut it off and had it towed to a dealer. The lifter on the number 3 cylinder stuck and bent the pushrod. The dealer replaced all lifters on that side of the engine. This all happened after it was checked for the recall and the thicker oil was put in.
The motor stoped working 6. 2. Left me stranded in the middle of the road. No warning, the engine just gave up and stopped working. As well as the grill flying away and breaking my windshield, this happened last year in February while driving 75 mph.
Motor was replaced at 70000 miles it blew rear main on the technician. Now 30000 miles later saying it needs valve body its been in shop 5 weeks now and no eta on parts. Also the onstar module went out or never worked after engine replaced. The truck has locked up 4 times before the engine was replaced once at 11000 miles. Had hard shifting issues from new dealership kept saying it just needed an update or tuned everytime until 100000 miles warranty was up. On my truck all the extras were were installed when they arrived. Heated and cooled seats. Heated steering wheel, park assist and something else however the truck was already out of manufacturers warranty before the 1st item installed at 50000 miles over a year after I had purchased. Everytime something was put on something else failed. And the grille started peeling immediately after I purchased vehicle and is almost completely gone.
The engine decided to make some noise and all I heard was ching ching ching, and it just died and I was unable to start it again.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized. The vehicle coasted over to the shoulder of the road. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling) in February 2026. The contact stated that a picoscope test was performed. The contact was informed that the vehicle passed the inspection. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 41,200.
My GMC sierra denali 2022 equipped with the 6. 2 motor locked up while I was driving pulling me out of the road.
The coolant control valve failed. This is a known failure point of poor design and on every other truck from 2019-2023 with the duramx lm2/lz0 engine, they are covered by a special service warranty to 150,000 miles. Gm knows this items fails and puts consumers lives at risk when the failure throws the truck into limp mode on the freeway. They refuse to do a recall to avoid doing the right thing. This is deceptive and wrong.
The vehicle is subject to safety recall n252494001 (NHTSA campaign 25v-274) due to manufacturing defects in the engine crankshaft and connecting rod bearings. • component/system failed: the 6. 2l v8 (l87) engine crankshaft and connecting rod assembly. The engine is available for inspection upon request. • safety risk: the defect can cause catastrophic engine damage and sudden loss of propulsion while driving, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. • dealer/manufacturer confirmation: the problem was confirmed via the issuance of safety recall n252494001. A dealership inspection was performed previously as part of the recall. • warning signs/symptoms: common symptoms include engine knocking, check engine lights, and hesitation before sudden failure. The issue with the remedy: federal law (49 u. S. C. § 30120) requires manufacturers to remedy safety defects "without charge". As a permanent safety remedy for this defect, gm has mandated a switch from 0w-20 to 0w-40 (dexosr) oil for the life of the engine to prevent bearing failure. However, the dealership and manufacturer are refusing to provide this mandated safety spec change without an ongoing $85 surcharge per oil change. While they performed the initial "inspection" oil change for free, they are now using the recall-mandated spec change to create a financial burden on the consumer. Because 0w-40 is now the mandatory factory requirement to prevent the safety defect, charging a premium for it constitutes a failure to provide the recall remedy "without charge. " general motors refuses to offset this cost, effectively penalizing the owner for a manufacturer safety defect. The dealership is also failing to honor my platinum wrap warranty and gm prepaid service contract to perform the continued oil changes without additional charges.
While driving I get a reduced acceleration warning on my dash cluster, drastically reducing horse power. My check engine light came on. This has happened before. I checked the code and it was a p1098 code. After researching I found out it was the engine coolant control valve. My fan is constantly running. This issue is ongoing. This seems to be a common occurrence with my vehicle year.
This is separate for VIN 3gtuudel5ng657492 I had to change dealerships because beck & masten south / GMC would not provide me with a loaner after being told I was on the list and I was next in line. I waited a month and drove to them and spoke with the girl who oversaw loaners. I explained I had severe safety issues such as front-end wobble which is related to transmission issues. And the oil consumption issue and oil light. Once again, I was re-assured the loaner program was indeed still active and I would be put on priority. Again to no avail I had wasted too much time with beck & masten. After months of this I found out I did not have to take it to the dealer I bought it from. So, I took it to monument Chevrolet. I explained my concerns related to the front-end wobble which was very intermittent. And the oil consumption issue which I was very concerned with due to the year model and mileage of the truck. Also, the 75,000. 00 price tag was really has me extremely upset. . . Monument Chevrolet treated me well. I had actually brought it in and called about the steering which was greatly affected by the severe front end wobble more than one time. I was told at first the oil consumption was pretty normal. Until I told them how much I had to add between changes. I have attached two work orders to this complaint. These work orders show what was done at 18017 miles and 18323 miles. The later work order was when the pico test was done. Also, an oil consumption test was started once I picked the truck up. After I had driven it for 2077 miles and was bringing the vehicle back to monument Chevrolet, as instructed for the oil consumption results, when a loud squeeling, then hard knock, power loss and I pulled over. I called monument and was instructed if I could get it to start and bring it. I drove it to them while knocking and rough running. It has been in the shop for over 2 months for an engine replacement. 2077 miles after recall work! refer complaint 11729716.
L87 catastrophic engine failure on second engine after 6300 miles. This is the second issue with the 6. 2l engine in my Sierra 1500. The first engine passed the l87 engine loss of propulsion field action and then suffered catastrophic engine failure a month later. The replacement engine procedure took over 3 weeks to perform and no rental or loaner vehicle was provided by gm or the servicing dealership. The vehicle is currently in the service department at another dealership awaiting the 2nd engine replacement, but it has been over 2 weeks since the engine failure. This servicing dealer has provided a vehicle to use. This has been a very frustrating ordeal and I feel that resell and value of this vehicle has been compromised and gm has done nothing to offset this with me.
Engine recall 6. 2 l-87 , after pico scoop test, which my truck passed, its using 2 plus quarts of oil per 1000 miles, the dealer has it and is saying they can find nothing wrong per the gm tech that is telling them to check this and that. Ok, oil is going somewhere, I want the motor replaced , they want to continue the oil consumption test, my thing is wasting my time to continue driving and bring back to it back for a low oil reading, its not gonna fix its self by driving it. I understand gm wants to figure out why, but it should not be at customers time , replace the motor all ready, something is wrong. The first 1000 miles after a oil change and they put die in the oil to check for leaks. When they check the oil level Friday 02/06/26 the oil did not read on the dip stick.
54k miles. Crankshaft failure. Truck shut off and put in neutral while driving with no codes on dash. Got a text saying to service engine and transmission immediately. On a side note, it is bullshit that you can't put the truck in neutral to get it off the road. The dealership is also doing a great job covering it and offering a loaner.
My vehicle stop running as I approached a traffic signal and failed to restart, it happened at a heavy traffic intersection during morning commute,I had the vehicle towed to dealership that same day (01-22-2026). Later that evening the dealership called to inform me that the motor was blown and had ordered a new one. The mileage is approximately 39,285.
To start off my truck has been to the dealership multiple time for the camera. After third time in the shop they fixed that issue. Then the infotainment started acting up after about 4 times in the shop it was fixed. They gave me the prescribed fix for the engine recall in November. Engine passed the test. Then 3 weeks ago the engine siezed up from the crank and bearings on the interstate doing 70 pulling a trailer in traffic. Leaveing me and my dad in the middle of the interstate. I had to have it towed 2 hours to my house. After the prescribed engine fix. They replaced the motor in 3 days. Great right? no they did not test drive long enough. Or they would have felt the shudder that developed after the new engine went in. It is now about to go back to the shop. Because of the shudder at low rpm and im haveing electrical issues again as well . My remote start also stopped working after the engine replacement.
