1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2026

On 8/31/2026 at approximately 2330 hours I was driving my 6. 2l sierra home. I took a left hand turn and the engine stopped. This happened with zero warning. I attempted to restart the engine after coming to a stop and the starter clicked once and nothing happened. Had it towed to my dealership for service. I was told the engine seized and will need to be replaced. I went through the recall process earlier where I was told my engine passed inspection and the oil was replaced with heavier weight oil and I was told it was good to go.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2026

I purchased a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 denali ultimate equipped with the 6. 2l v8 engine on xxx. The vehicle currently has approximately 25,000 miles. On xxx, the vehicle underwent the gm recall repair related to the 6. 2l engine at don mealey Chevrolet. On xxx, approximately nine months after the recall repair, my family and I were traveling on the [xxx] with my two children inside the vehicle when the engine suddenly experienced a major failure. The vehicle became inoperable while we were traveling on the highway and had to be stopped and subsequently transported to schumacher Buick GMC in [xxx]. The failure occurred unexpectedly while the vehicle was being operated normally. Having an engine failure while traveling on a major highway with my two children in the vehicle created a significant safety concern because of the potential for loss of power and the danger associated with becoming disabled in active highway traffic. Gm has subsequently authorized replacement of the engine under warranty. The vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting completion of the engine replacement. I am reporting this failure because the vehicle had previously received the gm recall remedy for the 6. 2l engine issue and subsequently experienced a major engine failure at only approximately 25,000 miles. The failure occurred approximately nine months after the recall repair. I am concerned that the previous recall remedy may not have adequately addressed the underlying condition associated with these 6. 2l l87 engines. I am requesting that NHTSA document this failure as part of its investigation into 6. 2l l87 engine failures and evaluate whether the existing recall remedy adequately addresses the safety-related engine failure condition. Vehicle information: * [xxx] GMC [xxx] 1500 denali ultimate * 6. 2l v8 engine information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2026

I received a notice months ago for possible engine problems. My dealer checked it out and everything was good except for changing oil from 0w-20 to 0w-40. I was in atlanta, GA on 8/26 and by the time I got home on 8/27, engine was knocking. I barely made it home. The dealer has had the truck since. They said I have to have a new engine. No idea when they will get one inn or when I will get my truck back. I opened a claim with gm (case #108927907). Gm basically offered no assistance, help, etc. I even tried to trade the truck back to my local gm dealership for another truck and they wouldn't offer enough on trade inn (says they wouldn't be able to sell it), gm corporate wouldn't offer buy back, loyalty program money, etc. As they claim it's under a recall. I have never received anything about a recall for the engine. Local Ford or Toyota dealerships will not even consider taking it in on a trade after new engine, says they cannot sell because of engine issue with 6. 2l engine. So I'm stuck with a truck that I cannot sell or trade and is now worthless. I'm sure the new engine will fail as well.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2026

Driving at highway speed vehicle began making odd engine noises and then lost power, pulled over and power continued to diminish until vehicle was no longer operable.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2026

My vehicle has experienced repeated and unresolved electrical system failures and unexpected loss of power steering assist. The problem involves multiple warning lights, module communication faults, drivability issues, and simultaneous malfunctions affecting systems including power steering, traction control, transmission, four-wheel drive, and other electronic controls. Repair records, diagnostic information, and videos documenting the failures are available for inspection upon request. The most serious incident occurred on August 23, 2026, when the power steering failed unexpectedly while I was driving. The sudden loss of steering assist made the vehicle difficult to control and nearly resulted in a collision with an oncoming vehicle. The failure created a significant safety risk because it impaired my ability to safely steer and control the vehicle. The condition has occurred multiple times over several months and has resulted in repeated dealership visits. Repairs have included replacement an hvac controller, but the failures have continued. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by an authorized dealer, and the manufacturer has been notified through an open support case. As of the most recent repair visit, no confirmed root cause or permanent repair had been identified, and the dealership was still working with engineering support to diagnose the issue. Prior to and during these failures, numerous warning lamps and service messages appeared, including warnings related to power steering, traction control, transmission, four-wheel drive, trailer brake system, steering column lock, and tire monitoring systems. In some incidents, the vehicle entered reduced-performance mode. These warning messages first appeared in November 2025 and have continued intermittently despite multiple repair attempts. The recurring and unresolved loss of power steering assist while driving creates an ongoing risk of crash or injury.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2026

I have a 2024 GMC 6. 2 original motor blew up at 39,000 miles. Got a new motor installed it blew up at 44,000. Now they are about to install the third motor after it’s already had two of the same failure. Second failure broke down on the interstate were three lanes turned into one above a hill. It was very dangerous.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2026

I was driving north/east on [xxx] just outside of [xxx]. After accelerating to give another driver room to move out of his lane that was ending, I lost propulsion/power. The sierra went into neutral and told me something like "press start to resume". I had to immediately get off the interstate as I was rapidly losing speed. I was able to pull over to the shoulder of the interstate on the right, just before exit 2. After getting the vehicle parked, I was never able to restart the vehicle. The motor would not turn over. The display screens kept cycling between a blank display and a display that looked like the vehicle was on but the engine never turned on. When I tried to start the car, I got a message of "conditions not correct for shift". We could not even get the vehicle into neutral. I used onstar to get state patrol to show up and put lights behind us for safety. Onstar should have a recording of this call. This was on Saturday xxx in the ballpark of 2:30 pm central time. I would imagine the officer also filed a report, but I did not get it. The vehicle was towed to billion GMC in iowa city. Billion GMC said their initial suspicion is the 6. 2l motor failed / locked up on us as this is know issue that is subject of a class action lawsuit. These vehicles are not safe to be on the highway, someone is going to get seriously injured, please do everything you can to get these 6. 2l engines off the road before someone dies. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2026

19k first engine replacement 25k 2nd engine replacement.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2026

Was traveling home and started losing power going up a hill on xxx. The truck was surging, the check engine light came on and an audible warning of no (low?) oil pressure. The truck shut off on a busy interstate highway and barely got onto the shoulder. The tow truck driver had to lay on the ground with part of his body in the lane of travel to place "skids" under the rear tires because there is no way to place this vehicle in neutral for a tow without a special gm tool. When I contacted harry robinson GMC service center in [xxx], they told me that it was no longer a safety recall because the truck had passed diagnostics and new, high viscosity oil was put in the truck xxx. The GMC app says code p0016 which is the dreaded 6. 2l camshaft to crankshaft alignment that accompanies engine component failure. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2026

Whole engine replacement at 20000 miles.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2026

Lifter failure at 20000 miles.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2026

Ever since I bought this truck new, I noticed a lot of metal shavings and debris in the oil filter every single time I changed the oil. I took it to the dealership multiple times to have this looked into before the engine recall came out. The dealership took pictures of the metal and sent them to a general motors engineer, but the engineer just told them it was "normal. " later on, the truck went in for the official recall inspection, passed the pico test, and nothing was fixed. Then on August 4, 2026, I was driving on a crowded expressway right through a construction zone with absolutely no shoulder to pull over on. Out of nowhere, the truck started hesitating badly, lost power, and the engine started making a really loud knocking noise. It was barely running, and it was incredibly dangerous because there was nowhere to go and traffic was heavy. Luckily, I was able to limp the truck along just far enough to clear the construction zone and pull over safely.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2026

After the initial recall inspection was performed, I was informed that my vehicle was not affected. Subsequently, the vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure while traveling westbound on [xxx] near [xxx], approximately one mile from [xxx]. While traveling at highway speed, the vehicle suddenly began losing speed and power. I was positioned between two semi-trucks, creating an extremely dangerous situation. At first, I looked to see if I was traveling uphill because of the unexpected loss of speed. I then pressed the accelerator in an attempt to maintain highway speed. The vehicle abruptly downshifted and the engine rpm increased dramatically. Immediately afterward, warnings appeared on the instrument cluster, including “engine oil temperature high” and instructions to pull over and allow the vehicle to cool down. The vehicle continued to lose power, creating a serious risk of collision due to the surrounding highway traffic. The vehicle was subsequently towed to findlay GMC, where it was inspected and diagnosed with a failed engine. The engine was ultimately replaced. This failure occurred after the vehicle had been inspected under the recall and I had been advised that it was not affected. I am concerned that my vehicle may have been incorrectly excluded from the recall or that the recall does not adequately identify all affected vehicles. The sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed presented a significant safety risk and warrants further investigation. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2026

On [xxx] I was driving my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 VIN # [xxx] on a major highway in houston when without warning the engine shut off, stranding me in the middle of busy traffic. I was able to get to the shoulder and restart the truck, but no warning lights came on so I continued on my drive when approximately 20 minutes later, while still on a busy freeway, the engine shut off again. I was able to restart the truck and within another 15 minutes the check engine light appeared, the engine lost power and started making a loud rattling noise. Roughly 2 minutes later, as I was attempting to pull over to the shoulder and safety, the truck shut off and would not restart. This was the 3rd time for it to stall out on a busy freeway which was very dangerous for myself and the other drivers. I contacted the local chevy dealership and they sent a tow truck out to tow the truck back to their dealership service center. I was later contacted by a service advisor that said they found a code p0016. He informed me that the engine would need to be replaced. As of today 8/11/26, they are still waiting on backordered parts to arrive before they can even start on any repairs. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2026

I was driving on the highway when the vehicle started to make clinking noises. The vehicle started to lose power as I accelerated it would feel like something was pulling me in the opposite direction and the knocking noise would get louder. Ultimately, I had the vehicle towed to a dealership. This vehicle passed the l87 recall not too long ago, and the vehicle is barely used.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2026

The engine blew.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2026

Engine stopped working while driving 65 mph on i435 kansas city. Engine failure had to pull over in 3 lane traffic to get off of roadway. Engine just stopped working. Had towed to gm dealer who performed full engine replacement. 6. 2 l . No warning. Just stopped working. Safety traveling on 3 land highway engine stopped with no warning had to work way over the shoulder with no engine.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2026

My vehicle is under the l87 recall from gm for engine failure. In September 2025 it was given the recall “fix”, different thicker oil. But on July 1 2026, my engine seized while I was driving 60 mph on the highway. Gm has since replaced the entire engine and the radiator. But the “fix” obviously did not work.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2026

I was driving at normal highway speed. I exited the highway and started to deceleration for an upcoming traffic light. The engine started making a lot of noise. The 6. 2l engine has 31k miles on it. Oil changes have been completed at the dealership where I purchased the sierra denali. I called the dealership and the service writer could hear the engine noise. He asked if I could get it to the dealership which was about 15 miles away. I tried but the truck stopped about 7 miles from the dealership. They told me to call the onstar service and get a tow. The dealership said it will take about six weeks to get a new engine. In the meantime I'm making payments on an eighty thousand dollar vehicle I can't use. Someone needs to hold gm accountable for the lack of urgency in getting this problem fixed!.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2026

On 06/26/26, I was driving my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 at4 with 6. 2 engine (Aug. 2024 engine build date) with 27,614 miles down the highway at 60-65mph and my rpms started jumping and I lost engine power and received this p0016 error message. I was able to coast off the highway at the next exit but this put me and my family at risk. Once I was able to coast into a parking lot, my truck wouldn't start anymore. My dealer picked up my truck and the engine was on backorder and then was replaced and I got the truck back on 08/21/26.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2026

The vehicle was part of the gm l87 engine recall. The vehicle was taken to the dealership in late 2025 for recall service. The dealership inspected the vehicle for vibration and determined that it required an oil change and updated service manual to require 0w-40 oil. On June 21, 2026 the vehicle experienced an engine failure.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2026

On xxx I started on a 3 hour trip with my daughter in the truck. My vehicle lost power and started knocking in the engine compartment. We were going over a very big bridge([xxx]) from [xxx] to [xxx]. I had to coast off the highway and made it to a park. Truck would not restart and would not go into neutral. Waited 5 hours for aaa and was drug onto the flat bed truck because it would not go into neutral. It was then towed to the dealership(union park GMC) in [xxx], where they had to drag it off the flat bed truck. Truck was evaluated and determined by the technicians that it needed a new engine(6. 2 l v8). Engine was tested and passed in October 2025. Still waiting on a new engine to be installed(today is xxx). GMC knows there are issues with these engines failing and continue to sell to the consumer. I am currently paying for a truck that I am not able to drive. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2026

2024 GMC Sierra 1500 6. 2 v8 had a full engine seizure while driving on the freeway. All prior recall actions had already been met (scoped and upgraded oil), within 60 days of dealership review the engine stopped working. Recall 25v-274 l87 engine loss of propulsion. After a 5 hour event on the side of the road aaa towed the vehicle to the dealership where I was told it would be many months before this is returned. It took many weeks for gm to just review and approve any next service (engine needs). At this point I'm told there are 181 people also in line for an engine and they can't see where I might be in that line. So we wait.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2026

Engine started making clicking noises at highway speed. The vehicle lost power and was difficult to start. The 2024 GMC sierra was driven three blocks the a gm dealership and it was determined that the engine had failed. It took two months to complete the repair by replacing the engine with a rebuilt one.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2026

I was driving down the highway when all of a sudden felt a hesitation and then seen message low oil pressure turn off vehicle and was just able to pull of the exit ramp of the highway when the truck had complete loss of power and then died. . Called dealer right away and was flat bedded to the dealer. . This just happened yesterday (06/08/26).

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2026

This vehicle became subject to a manufacturer safety recall requiring complete engine replacement. The engine failure has been confirmed by an authorized GMC dealer, and the vehicle has remained out of service for more than one month while awaiting the recall remedy. The dealer has advised that the repair has been escalated through gm's spac (service parts assistance center) process because a replacement engine is not available. General motors has also confirmed there is currently no estimated delivery date or estimated completion date for the repair. As a result, the recall remedy is effectively unavailable, and the vehicle remains unusable for an indefinite period. Although a temporary loaner vehicle has been provided, it is not functionally comparable to the recalled vehicle and does not provide the towing capability and utility required for its intended use. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized GMC dealer, who confirmed that engine replacement under the recall is required. The vehicle remains available for inspection. My concern is not only the original safety defect but also the inability to obtain the recall remedy within a reasonable timeframe. There has been no estimate of when replacement engines will become available, leaving the vehicle out of service indefinitely. I am submitting this complaint to document the delay in completing the safety recall and to request that NHTSA review whether the recall remedy is being provided in a timely and effective manner.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2026

The vehicle received the official n252494001 recall oil remedy on 06/27/2025 at 15,438 miles (but suffered catastrophic engine failure and loss of propulsion at 33,661 miles on 05/30/2026).

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2026

On xxx, while traveling at 75 mph on a major interstate highway, this 2024 GMC sierra crew cab suffered a sudden and catastrophic internal engine seizure, resulting in an immediate and total loss of propulsion. This defect put the safety of all occupants and surrounding motorists at extreme risk, forcing the driver to navigate a completely unpowered, rapidly decelerating vehicle through high-speed traffic to reach the shoulder without the aid of engine power. There were absolutely no warning lamps, error messages, or mechanical symptoms prior to the failure; the engine locked up instantaneously without any advance warning. Following the incident, the vehicle was flatbed-towed to an authorized franchise dealership (dossett GMC in [xxx]), where it remains un-repaired and is currently available for inspection by the manufacturer or federal investigators upon request. Critically, this vehicle was previously presented to a certified general motors dealership at 34,766 miles for inspection and service compliance under federal safety recall n252494001 (which covers engine component failure and subsequent loss of propulsion). The vehicle was cleared as passing the manufacturer's inspection protocol at that time. The total engine failure and seizure occurred less than 9,000 miles later at approximately 43,634 miles. The catastrophic field failure of this vehicle demonstrates that the manufacturer's current safety recall inspection and remedy are insufficient to identify or mitigate the defect, presenting an ongoing and severe risk to public highway safety. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2026

My truck engine has failed due to metal shavings in the oil related to the l87 engine recall, and the failure occurred after gm had replaced the truck’s oil as part of the recall remedy. The recall remedy did not prevent the failure of the engine.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2026

My truck has completely shut down/ loss power on several occasions. Happened when I was l slowing down or completely stopped. Everything goes dark. Had to wait several minutes before truck would start.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2026

Engine failure at 12,000 miles.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2026

Engine failure after passing pico test. Engine completely locked up on a busy highway without the ability to even put it in neutral. Yes, confirmed by dealer that there were metal shavings in the fluid. Inspected by authorized dealer. No lights came on in the vehicle prior to the engine failure.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2026

Traveling northbound in the left lane on [xxx] approximately 1 mile prior to the [xxx] exit. I increased my speed to move to the right lane and exit. After moving the the right lane and signaling to exit the highway a notification appeared on the gauge cluster stating to shift to neutral and restart the engine. After coming to a complete stop at the stop light I attempted to restart and nothing happened. I contacted onstar for roadside assistance to get my truck and trailer towed and was informed they do not cover towing of the trailer. I accepted the tow of the truck and contacted the towing company who charged me $300 to tow my trailer 15 miles home. This happened late morning on Saturday and by Monday evening I was informed my engine seized and gm will be covering a replacement under warranty. My truck is less than two years old with 23k miles. The 6. 2l engine was inspected a couple months earlier for the engine recall and was deemed ok. Clearly the inspection process is not very robust. I was told I could be without my truck for 1wk, 2wks, a month, but they are not sure since I’m 4th in line for a new engine and the truck first in line has already been there a month. I was also told gm is showing inventory in michigan but the engines are not shipping. I’m currently waiting on a loaner vehicle but was told I cannot tow with the loaner vehicle which throws a wrench in my plans. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
