general problems of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while idling in the driveway, the steering wheel became inoperable. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer, where it was determined that the steering rack and pinion needed to be replaced; however, the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 5,754.

I bought this new vehicle from diamond Chevrolet in auburn, MA, in November 2024. The truck currently has approximately 10,000 miles on it. On two separate and distinct instances, the truck suffered a complete loss of power steering while driving on the highway. In both instances, the issue persisted until I turned the vehicle off. Numerous warning indicators were illuminated on the dashboard (service power steering, drive with care, service esc, etc). A loss of power steering is a significant safety defect, and it was hard to steer the truck at lower speeds. The dealership and general motors were able to replicate the issue and replace the entire power steering rack during the first instance of power steering loss. Currently, the vehicle is still being diagnosed by the dealership and general motors for the current yet similar issue. The issue is intermittent but poses a significant public safety risk to the consumer and general motoring public.
