1 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/09/2026

A few weeks ago my adaptive cruise stopped working, as well as the automatic high beam system (not sure the technical name). As there was a warning light displayed, I brought it into the dealership to have them check it out. The technician jumped in really quick, made some changes within the control panel, and the light came off. As I drove out and tried to use the adaptive cruise control, it didn't work and I almost went into the back of a truck. That all being said, I brought it back into the dealer last week for them to diagnose the problem as a failed front windshield camera. I find it hard to believe that this camera can fail at 50k miles, and the repair with parts and labor costing approximately $1000. This is an advanced system designed to improve the driver experience and heavily marketed. Considering this is tied to safety in some capacity, shouldn't gm cover this repair? I quickly googled the issue and found others have had the same failure. The camera system combined with the control panel covers so many applications, I would be concerned about other issues with the truck. Not to mention the massive recall of my l87 engine and water pump failure that I have also dealt with. I appreciate you taking the time to read my rant. Not sure if this will do anything, but it would be nice to have some sort of relief from the oem due to the issues I have already experienced owning this truck.

2 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 02/25/2026

Following engine replacement per NHTSA for 6. 2l GMC engine. I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 denali (refresh body style). The vehicle has experienced repeated failures of driver-assist features and safety system warnings, including: dash messages: “lane keeping assist system unavailable” and “service safety restraint system. ” when the fault occurs, driver-assist features including adaptive cruise control become inoperative. The issue has recurred multiple times, including after repairs. After one event, the truck sat parked approximately 10 days and the battery discharged to failure and required replacement. A dealership visit documented dtc u3000 (“internal electronic failure”) in the front view camera module. The dealer replaced/programmed/calibrated the front camera on 02/09/2026 at approximately 58,405 miles (invoice/ro #285795). The symptoms have recurred despite prior resets and this repair. I am concerned about loss of driver-assist functions while driving and the presence of a safety restraint system warning. Please investigate whether there is a defect related to the front camera/driver-assist systems and/or electrical module behavior that can cause repeat faults and battery drain on this model.

4 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 02/02/2026

The front forward-facing camera module has failed, causing cruise control and driver-assistance features to become inoperative. Dealer diagnosis indicates the front camera must be replaced and recalibrated in order to restore cruise control and safety systems. This failure disables cruise control and driver-assist features that were standard equipment on the vehicle at purchase, resulting in a sudden loss of functionality while driving. The dealer has provided a repair estimate of approximately $1,150, including parts, labor, and required calibration, at owner expense. Based on similar reports from other owners, this appears to be a recurring issue affecting this model year.

5 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/09/2026

GMC super cruise malfunction no warning before supercruise shuts off passing a car on four lane highway (super cruise enabled) super cruise shut off and truck continued heading for the center gaurd rail. (I caught it before it became an incident). Super cruise abruptly shuts off (no warning) and within a couple thousand feet it turns on. My first time using supercruise az highway 87 n bound just before rye and az highway 260 between payson and christopher creek I called my dealership but it was like uh huh ok I'll let gm know. - no support! the only indicator is on the steering wheel a red, green or yellow light. Red is off-green is active, and yellow light no service. Red light comes on and seat vibrates supercruise drops out.

6 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/07/2026

Cruise control activates at speeds below 2 mph which frequently happens while turning or parking. The cruise control activates by a toggle on the left spoke of the steering wheel which can be easily bumped while doing low speed maneuvers like parking. When bumping the toggle the cruise indicator shows a set speed of 15mph and the vehicle surges forward trying to attain that speed. Since this occurs while maneuvering to park, it creates a dangerous situation if anyone is nearby and you are unable to react in time. This is an ongoing problem that can be duplicated at will.

7 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2026

Car flashes "service driver assist system". Took to dealer and they referenced pit6455 which states gm is still investigating the issue. Truck was returned to me - very concerning to have truck saying driver assist needs to be serviced and gm is unable to service it!.

8 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/18/2025

Engine burning oil and blowing white smoke out tail pipes. Have to add oil every 1500 miles or sooner if towing. Has been an issue since first oil change. Vehicle is now at 88057 miles.

9 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

Supercruise repeatedly crosses double yellow lines even with on coming traffic. Sometimes with SC active it will make an auto lane change but halfway through it will randomly swerve into either lane, or just simply turn off without warning. It started happening after a software update in may of 2025. We have provided gm and the dealership with video evidence, along with the dealership mechanic replicating the problems. Gm states that SC is operating as intended and that we are not to bring the truck in for service for that issue again. They denied buy back twice now.

10 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/26/2025

The active cruise control does not appear to be able to be completely turned off, you can only cancel a particular speed you have set. I have experienced multiple times in a parking lot situation when trying to park that as steering wheel was spinning, it is very easy to hit the toggle switch that sets/resumes the cruise control, at that point vehicle may acclerate to the set point as you are trying to park. You must quickly either hit the cancel button or the brake to disengage the cruise control that you have no intention of engaging. Although I have been able to get the situation under control, had another moving car or pedestrian been close by, not sure if I would have same result. I have gone through the operating manual provided with the vehicle, and from what I can tell, there is nothing in the manual that even tells you how to operate the active cruise control. It seems like there needs a “system off switch” so the set/resume button is not active, until the system is turned on. I have owned many GMC products, and none have had the design where the toggle switch sticks out from the steering wheel and is easily inadvertently engaged. Usually the controls are flat/smooth like the “cancel” button on this vehicle……. Which can’t easily be engaged accidentally. Luckly, I have not had a crash or injured a pedestrian.

11 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/03/2025

My GMC had a terminal engine failure around 5/3/25. This disengaged the esc, parking brake, and driver assist abilities as well as making the truck undrivable. GMC service diagnosed the truck needed an entire new engine. The repair took over 2 months to complete and now that I have the truck back, the adaptive cruise control is not working.

12 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/22/2025

The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. While utilizing super cruise on the interstate in stop and go traffic conditions, the vehicle will come to a complete halt and jerk (as though you I slammed on the breaks). This has happened approximately 4 times and each time, driving conditions were good and during hours of daylight. The halt is very violent and causes the vehicle behind me to slam on their breaks. The latest instance occurred on Tuesday may 29, 2025 and forced the vehicle behind me to swerve off of the road. The emergency breaking warning does not sound nor is there a reason for it to do so as it has happened when the vehicle in front of me is moving with traffic and has not slowed down or applied breaks. The super cruise system also does not disengage or say that the road information is unavailable. The vehicle simply comes to an abrupt halt, to the point where if things are in the seats they will fly forward and then the system behaves as though nothing has happened. Traveling speeds vary between 10-20 mph when it malfunctions. The problem has not been reproduced and it shouldn't because it is a serious safety hazard for the driver and other commuters on the road. I was told a module software update would fix the issue however that did not. There were no warning lights that occurred prior to any of the instances.

13 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/28/2025

1st time complete failure on my 2024 engine without warning. As I was traveling on the interstate. All of sudden, I lost all power. Mt truck started slowing down on its own. It was very difficult getting out of the way of on coming traffic. Dealership replaced values. 2 months later. Again on the interstate engine complete failure again. Now take it to dealership. This time I heard a ticking noise. Right after the ticking noise. Engine stop working. Same situation. Trying to get out of the way of traffic. I was stranded over 3 hours.

14 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/27/2025

While driving on the interstate, my vehicle started losing speed. I pulled over to the shoulder of the interstate and put in neutral so I could coast further to the exit ramp where I would be in a safer location. My vehicle has 14037 miles on the odometer and has now gone through 2 engines. It has always been serviced by gm.

15 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/17/2025

Driving down highway at 60 mph and truck shut off. Had to try to get it over to the shoulder to off the travel lane. Dealer found wire harness chaffed at front left shock tower ecm bracket. Several wires damaged, repaired and cleared codes. This could have been much worse had I been in heavy traffic and needed to cross additional lanes of traffic to park in a safe area. I had no power steering and limited space to park the truck. I called to police to have a car dispatched to park behind me so the truck could be loaded on a tow vehicle to bring it to the dealer. This could have been worse had my wife been driving.

16 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/26/2024

On December 26th 2024, I was travelling 5 mph or less while pulling into a parking space at a restaurant. As I let the steering wheel return to center, my hand hit the resume button on the left side of the steering wheel and the vehicle immediately began to accelerate. I was able to step on the brake to prevent the vehicle from hitting the wall of the restaurant. The next day on December 27th, 2024, I was able to duplicate the problem. I had set the cruise at 55 mph before I came to a stop at a traffic light. I released the brake and pressed the resume button and the vehicle immediately accelerated from a dead stop. I've been an automotive mechanic for over 30 years and I've never seen this happen before. It's my understanding that vehicles wouldn't engage cruise control unless the speed was over 35 mph.

17 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/20/2024

Repeated mechanical failures of my 2022 GMC sierra at4, which I purchased on October 26, 2024, with approximately 37,000 miles on the odometer. The adaptive cruse control is wonderful when it works but I have found even with the sensor clean the truck will slam on brakes on its own causing me to nearly be rear ended. It happens when driving into the sun and at night. I no longer trust adaptive cruse and use manual cruse. Within just 55 days of ownership, and after driving roughly 4,700 miles, the vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure without warning on December 20, 2024. This failure left the truck immobilized in a highly dangerous situation—stuck in the middle of a 65-mph highway at a red light, without the ability to shift into neutral and remove the vehicle from traffic. I was forced to activate the emergency flashers and exit the vehicle, standing helplessly on the side of the road while praying that oncoming drivers would see the truck in time to avoid a potentially deadly accident. The truck was towed to the dealership the following day, December 21, 2024, where it remained for an unacceptable 110 days awaiting a replacement engine. I finally took possession of the repaired vehicle on April 10, 2025. Shockingly, only two days later—after driving just 328 miles—the vehicle suffered a second catastrophic engine failure without warning. The truck is now inoperable once again, sitting in my driveway and in need of a third engine replacement. While the odometer currently reads 42,365 miles. This ongoing situation has been not only a major inconvenience, but also a significant safety concern and financial burden. I am extremely disappointed in the reliability and performance of this vehicle. This level of failure on a vehicle that is still under powertrain warranty is simply unacceptable.

18 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/14/2024

The issues with my vehicle began when the radio intermittently cut off or froze. Despite several attempts by the dealer to resolve the problem, they were unsuccessful. Early on, various electrical components failed to load or perform correctly, with the dealer attributing this to software updates. Currently, when the radio cuts off or freezes, I experience additional problems: the headlights randomly flash between dim and bright, the heads-up display fails to load or shows incomplete information, the collision detection activates with no objects around, and dynamic cruise control becomes unreliable or fails to engage. The wipers operate randomly, and the vehicle stalls when the auto start/stop feature is engaged. Random warning lights appear on the dash, and each day brings new, different issues. A new symptom involves the vehicle not recognizing the keys are inside, causing it to shut off and lock me inside. This recently happened while I was driving at low speed in a parking lot, which poses a serious safety risk. On the interstate, safety issues are more concerning: headlights flashing on and off, dynamic cruise control failing, blis and collision control activating unexpectedly, and the vehicle locking me inside with keys in the truck. My children are scared to ride in the vehicle due to these issues. The dealer claims they cannot replicate the problems, despite videos I’ve provided showing malfunctions. They acknowledge the issues but blame them on software updates. Multiple updates have been applied, but the problems continue and are becoming more frequent, affecting more systems. The vehicle is under warranty, but as of December 13, 2024, the dealer has refused to service it. After the dealer completed some work, an independent inspection confirmed the issues persist. Warning messages and malfunctioning lamps have been captured on video. Problem has been reported from first service approximately 6/2023 as radio malfunction / electrical issues.

19 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/09/2024

The instrument cluster shorted and was blank with no access to any gauges or speedometer. No functionality.

20 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/30/2024

While driving on a two lane highway at approximately 60 mph the powersteering on my truck failed with warning lights on the dash. I limped it to a town where I could get it scanned and they could not figure out the issue. The issue was intermittent for a few days until it was non-stop. It took over a month to get the reconfigured part from gm to complete the repair, gm had to reconfigure the part to fix the issue I was having. A faulty powersteering control module was the probelm and it required replacement of the entire steering rack and alignment. Gm is aware of this issue clearly due to their choice to rework the affected part, but not issuing a recall in light of the issue to take full repsonsibility/reimburse customers that have suffered monetary damage due to their failure to propperly engeineer parts.

21 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/01/2024

On two separate occasions, while traveling at highway speeds with the adaptive cruise control system on, my truck randomly started braking hard as if it was sensing a vehicle or obstacle in front of me but my lane was completely clear. The most recent time, I was almost rear ended because of this issue.

24 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/20/2024

Purchased vehicle new June 23 2023 and super cruise never worked and if engaged acted erratically . Vehicle spent over 40 days in several gm dealerships for the issue and one dealer even charged me for installing a warranty part. . Gm filled a case 9-10220813020 but were not helpful in dealing with dealers and to add insult to injury would not even reimburse me for warranty work or in any way compensate me for my time and efforts to fix the issue. Frustrated with gms indifference I traded the vehicle in March 2024.

25 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/13/2024

Driving at 50mph on straight road. No traffic in front. Truck brakes activated. Went down to 29mph. Then picked up speed on its own.

26 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/25/2022

After leaving my truck parked for a couple of hours over dinner I returned to find error messages stating "service power steering / drive with care" and "service esc". I also received a notification from onstar stating "diagnostic alert: service the antilock braking system in your 2022 sierra within 1 day. " my power steering was non-functional, nor were any cruise control functions. Repeated stop / start cycles did not clear the errors or regain functionality. After parking overnight everything was functional, and the errors on the dic were gone. Using a code scanner there were historical codes of u0131 and u0422.

27 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/30/2022

When using adaptive cruise the brakes have engaged aggressively without cause. This has happened several times prior to my discontinuing the use of this option. I have not had it in for service yet (we just returned from vacation).

28 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/23/2020

The engine failed at 5100 miles and is currently being repaired by the dealership. I requested a new car replacement.

29 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/14/2020

Issue 1: front left sensor(s), after a rain, car wash and now after an oil change, continuously vibrates the drivers seat and the red light warning stays lite indicating that an obstacle is located near the left front of the truck. This has happened on several occasions and after a time both indicator stop. Issue 2: when traveling on a freeway, twice now, the cruise control suddenly disengaged or decreased mileage, as if it had detected a vehicle in front of us. There was no vehicle within a quarter mile of us front or back, nor any vehicles on the side. No debris in the road either. Usually when the adaptive cruise is set and detects something in front the icons on the dash turn orange and starts to flash. That didn't happen, rather the cruise icon changed to blue in color and the truck slowed. This I would consider a safety risk. Both instances (December 2020 and April 2021) have been reported to a dealership and noted in a file. When the customer care person attempted to get malfunction codes, nothing appeared to be wrong with the vehicle.

30 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2013 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/14/2020

On or about 10-14-2020 I had got a call from my niece that she was at a parking lot and the truck didn't want to run the same. She was passing a intersection when she heard a very loud pop noise and a very scary noise coming from the engine. The noise did shack her some but when she notices the truck had lost its power she was more scare that she was going to get hit by a other car came out to be the lifters and camshaft . Where they been having class actsions law suits with gm motors for the same problem with other GMC year from 2009-2015 5. 3 vortex engins and GMC knew about it before the sold the very first truck its a $10,000. 00 dallors repair and with the bank finance I will be paying more then 25,000. 00 after cost and this truck blue book its at 15,000. 00 last time I check it so its not worth putting so much more money for that year of truck. I had tryed to work things out with the dealership as well with gm motors and had no luck or even a call back from both sides. I ask that if you can investigate this matter some more I will gladly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.
