The headlamps on my vehicle have been very poor, both in low and high beam positions ever since I purchased the vehicle. Thinking that their must be something wrong with the existing headlamps, I purchased the replacement bulbs and there were no improvements. When driving at night I have to stay on low beam with the fog lights on just to help to see. I can't use my high beams at all because the lighting is so poor. GMC is aware of their headlamp issues on the 2014 and 15 models but nothing is being done about it to my knowledge. Without spending $500-$1000 to change them over to led, is there anything that I can do to improve this situation?.

While driving home the other night both headlights failed at the same time. Lost both high beam and low beam. Tried everything to get them on with no luck. Interment panel showed that they were still on. This was very scary and dangerous as I has traveling on a major highway. Luckily I had fog light to give me some light to gt off the highway safely.
While the head lights and fog lights are on, the right head and fog lights are dim but the left head and fog lights are bright. Also the right turn signal shows error message on the cluster that the bulb needs to be replaced and you can hear it blinking fast, but when I exit the vehicle to inspect the signal I notice that it is not blown and it works fine but I still get the error message and the fast blinking. Both stated problems occur while the vehicle is stationary and when the vehicle is in motion.
My husband and I were driving on highway 1 just past montara beach. It was around 7:30 pm and already dark. We were going approximately 45 mph when all of a sudden, both headlights shut off on its own. We were approaching an extremely curvy stretch of road along ocean cliffs and there was nowhere to pull over. The symbol on the dash was lit up saying that our lights were on (even though they weren't). Thankfully there was a car in front of us and one behind us that gave us enough light and time to react which meant we didn't have to jam on our brakes and hope for the best. We tried the high beams which also did not work. After turning knobs and pressing buttons (while driving) to get some illumination, we finally were able to turn on the fog lights which was enough to get us somewhere safe. This is extremely dangerous and should never happen to anyone. Without the headlights from the car in front of us and behind us, this could have ended very badly, possibly even fatal. We were never able to get the headlights back on and plan on bringing the truck to a local GMC dealer tomorrow. Unfortunately, even if we get it fixed, we will be worried every time we drive it at night knowing that this could have ended so much worse. We haven't even put 1000 miles on it since we purchased it.

The headlights on this pickup make driving at night in rural south dakota almost impossible and even dangerous. I have owned this truck for only 2 weeks and found in order to drive at night I have to have the fog lights on to see, and even than it is not much better. The brights help none. Can't even tell when they are on vrs not. There has to be a fix or something that can be done to fix this. Driving at night is dangerous.
I purchased this truck new in October, 2014. My research prior to purchase showed a number of complaints about the headlights, but I did not think there were enough complaints for me to be concerned. I was wrong. I live in a rural area and the headlights are definitely inadequate on the low beam setting. The mechanical shutter design produces a very sharp beam cutoff at about the level of the hood, making it seem like you are sitting in a darkened area above a bowl of light. The projector headlights provide little, if any, illumination of objects on the side of the road. I use the fog/driving lights continually on the truck or I would not feel comfortable driving it with low beams in unlit areas. For the sake of comparison, I have attached two images taken on two consecutive mornings at approximately the same location on my driveway. The truck picture was taken approximately ten minutes later than the car picture (both were approximately 6:45 a. M. ). Note there is a slight perspective shift due to the height difference in the vehicles and the driving/fog lights were not on on either vehicle when the picture was taken. Note the 25-year old technology sealed beam headlights show the fence posts at the right side of the vehicle where the GMC's headlights show a dark void. It honestly feels like you are driving through a tunnel of light in the truck. You have no hope of seeing any objects on either side of the road. There is a TSB on this issue that recommends replacing the bulbs and reprogramming the bcm. My truck has not had this performed because the dealership did not have the bulbs in stock when I asked about it. There is some debate on message boards regarding whether or not the update offers any benefits. Additionally, the new bulbs allegedly have a significantly shortened life over the originals and they can be difficult to locate when needed.
The headlights are dangerous! low beams with fog lights on are adequate for <45 mph. Anything faster and you can't see far enough ahead. Forget using the high beams. On dimly lit highways, you can't see in front on the vehicle. The high beams don't illuminate the road so it's safer to use the low beams and hope the 100ft visibility will allow you to slow slightly before killing whatever human/animal/obstacle presents itself. This truck is too dangerous for my family without a retrofit.
Headlights are extremely dim. High beams provide no illumination to the front sides of the vehicle. Using fog lights with low beam is actually brighter than the high beams. Even after having the dealer install new bulbs the lighting is very weak in a low illumination area, I. E. No moon, no street light, road. When making a turn in an un lit area I can't even see where the side of the road ends. These so called projector type headlights don't seem to work very well. I know for a fact the 2014 and 2015 have the same set up. The 2016 has a whole new set up with hid lighting and work great. This tells me that gm knows there is a problem. Unfortunately their "fix" only if you complain, isn't fixing anything. . . On a trip in the smokey mountains in gatlinburg TN I nearly crashed off the side of the mountain. I could not see where the edge of the road was. Even the passengers asked me "what is wrong with your lights?" the said "turn on your high beams" and I stated, "they are on". We can't believe these light pass the common sense test. .
The projector beam headlights on my 2 year old GMC sierra are, and have been, noticeably dim to the point of being a safety concern. It's as if trying to drive at night while wearing dark sunglasses. In addition to being dim, there's also the problem of side illumination. I can see some of the road ahead, but can't see the ditches on either side of the road. I consider this lack of side illumination to also be a safety issue, especially when negotiating turns or curves. Using high beams offers little, if any improvement. The high beams only seem to shine higher (tree top height), but offer no real increase in either side illumination or actual brightness. The "eye lids" lift, but poor illumination remains unchanged. About the only option is for me to drive with the fog lights on. Using fog lights at least gives a bit more side illumination, but still does nothing to assist with "down the road" illumination. I've been surprised at such poor lighting being installed on an otherwise great truck. These projector beam headlights were supposedly offered as part of premium packages. If these headlights are GMC's best, I'm sure glad I didn't get the cheaper lights! my only hope is that GMC will offer some type of headlight upgrade, possibly led lights.
The headlights on my 2015 GMC sierra slt are by far the worst headlights I have ever experienced in the many vehicles that I have driven over the last 30 years. How they passed whatever safety standards there are set in place is beyond me. They do not provide a wide enough beam to see around turns or wildlife that may be on the side of the roadway nor do they light up enough of the road in distance to see anything at all beyond approximately 50 feet while travelling in the dark. This vehicle is unsafe to be driven at any speed during the dark. Sadly the high beams are completely useless as well. There is more light output with the low beams on in conjunction with the fog lights (which isn't saying much) than there is with the high beams on. Driving is the rain is even worse. You cannot even tell that the headlights are on that's how bad they are. I have complained several times to two different dealers and gm directly and was told "that's just how they are and there is nothing that can be done about them". I was given a 2016 sierra as a loaner vehicle while I had my vehicle in for this and several other issues and the headlights on the 2016 vehicle they loaned me are a big improvement over the 2014-15 lights. Gm should be forced to recall all 2014-15 sierras due to these severely hazardous headlights and forced to install the lights that come on the 2016-17 sierras.
I've had my 2014 GMC sierra for nearly a year now, first night I had it I couldn't believe how poor the light output was from the headlights. I've had numerous GMC sierra trucks over the years and this truck by far has the worse headlights I've ever had in a truck. There are a lot of people online complaining, I'm definantly not the only one upset with how poor these headlights are. There are a few guys in town with this same truck they all hate the headlights too. These headlights just seem very dim, they don't shine the ditchs up very well, they don't shine ahead very far either. I have better luck running the headlights on low beam and fog lights on, it almost seems like less light on high beam so I rarely have them on high, I've had multiple occasions where I nearly hit a moose, these headlights are very dangerous I'm worried that one of these days I'm going to hit a moose or worse a person! I really hope somebody does something about these headlights gm didn't listen to anything I had to say.
The headlights do not illuminate the road enough. Very dim and cannot even tell where cut off line is. Even with fog lights on, it is unsafe to drive at night.
