I was on my way home from work and everything was driving fine and then I got 1/4 mile from my house and the motor started making a very loud grinding sound. I could barely accelerate. The issue happened out of nowhere. No issues prior to this happening. I was driving about 40 miles an hour when the issue started and I limped it to my driveway, luckily I was not very far away. I have a 3 month old baby and this was my reliable family vehicle. Who’s to say what could have happened if I was driving at a higher speed with my child in the car. When it happened it started shaking really bad. I checked everything that I could. It sounded like my motor was starving for oil. I decided to go ahead and change my oil to see if that could have been the issue. I had just changed the oil approximately 2000 miles before this. I changed the oil and filter. Went to start it up and still same very loud grinding sound, shut it back off and have not started it since cause I’m afraid to damage it further. I checked the oil that I drained out of it and looks like small metal flakes in the oil. No warning prior to this happening. Just out of no where it sounds and felt like my motor was going to blow.

While driving into work, I noticed a knocking sound from the outside of the vehicle. Once parked, upon further inspection I narrowed down the area of the noise to the bottom rear of the engine/front of transmission. Fortunately, I was able to park in front of my office building and wasn’t stranded on the side of the road but under different circumstances it could've been the side of a busy highway or hours from home. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership I originally purchased from, the dealership was able to duplicate the issue with me present. Later that afternoon I was informed that the engine had failed and a replacement would be ordered. There was no prior indication of a problem or warning/cel’s. The engine failed after the dealership had completed the engine recall ( pico test and 0-40w oil change ) related to the vehicle. I am reporting this in hopes that it helps with the investigation. This has been very disappointing for me as I have supported the brand of vehicle for many years. Only to have many issues under 80,000 miles and to lose confidence in the vehicle I purchased and the company.

I was driving to work when my vehicle’s check engine light illuminated, accompanied by a warning message stating, “low oil pressure—turn vehicle off. ” I immediately followed this instruction and shut the vehicle off. When I attempted to restart it, the engine cranked repeatedly before finally starting, but the same warning message reappeared, prompting me to turn it off again. A few months prior, I had the vehicle inspected at the dealership, where I was informed that it passed the 6. 2l engine national recall inspection. On April 9, 2026, the vehicle was towed to the dealership for further evaluation. On April 10, I was contacted and informed that technicians could hear a metallic noise coming from the engine. However, they stated that the readings from the pico test were not high enough to meet the criteria for engine replacement. The dealership recommended replacing the camshaft position sensor but could not confirm whether this repair would resolve the issue. They also indicated that I would be responsible for all associated costs. Despite the presence of concerning symptoms, including abnormal engine noise and repeated warning messages, I was advised that general motors would not approve an engine replacement unless the engine either completely seizes or fails both required diagnostic tests. At this time, my vehicle has only failed one of the two tests. As a result, I have been left without a reliable and safe vehicle, which is significantly impacting my ability to commute to work. This situation places me at risk of financial hardship and potential job loss. I am seeking a resolution that ensures my vehicle is properly diagnosed and repaired so that it is safe to operate.

Ticking at cold start. 4/02/26 on way home from work. Truck loses acceleration while driving. Bug jumps then display says low power mode. Truck will start but will not move forward or in reverse. Rpms increase but no propulsion. Recall was performed 11/17/25 and passed inspection through romain GMC evansville, in. Called romain on 4/02/26 and was told someone would return my call 4/03/26. Still waiting. Plan to call kate faupal dealership in henderson,ky on 4/06/26.
On 18 March 2026 I was driving at night at highway speed with my family (wife, [xxx] son, [xxx] daughter, and [xxx] son) when, without any warning, my 2023 GMC sierra at4 with 20,700 miles abruptly and violently shuddered and reduced speed from approximately 65 mph to 30 mph uncontrollably. Shortly after the initial speed reduction the vehicle presented simultaneous alerts that it was in "reduced acceleration mode", the "emission system control" had failed, and the that the check engine light was on. Although the vehicle claimed to be in reduced acceleration mode I was unable to prevent it from continuously slowing to 0 mph. I attempted to use the accelerator to move from the left lane of traffic to the right shoulder without causing an accident. However, the vehicle violently shuddered and would not accelerate or maintain speed. I managed to maneuver around traffic and stop the vehicle on the right shoulder. Due to the unlit highway and my family's emotional state after the incident, I determined the safest course of action was to attempt to get the vehicle to a nearby parking lot. After turning the vehicle off and back on, I managed to slowly drive with my flashers on (despite the vehicle continuing to violently shudder) approximately 1 mile to a wal-mart parking lot. Once there I noticed I received an email from onstar diagnostics that my vehicle experienced a significant engine malfunction with an associated p129f code. I coordinated for the vehicle to be towed to bill cramer Chevrolet GMC inc in [xxx] the following day. My vehicle had no lights, messages, or symptoms of this issue prior to it occurring. The dealership replaced the fuel pump power control module under warranty, cleared the faults, test drove the vehicle, and returned to me on 31 March 2026. The dealer mentioned they service roughly two vehicles of similar make and/or models daily for the same issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

While driving on the road the vehicle started sputtering and stalled! we pulled to the side of the road and tried to start the car but it rolled and would not start. We called a a mechanic who had it towed and found out that the fuel pump and the fuel control board had failed. Both have been replaced and the truck seems to be working again. Heard several other persons had this issue with their gcm sierra elevation so we wanted to report since there is currently no recall. Luckily the traffic was not going that fast or we could have had an accident and been seriously injured.
The failure involved the engine (6. 2l l87 v8), specifically suspected internal components such as the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, as identified in a current recall. The vehicle is currently located at dennis gm in corner brook, newfoundland and is available for inspection. On March 9, while driving the vehicle normally on a main highway, the engine suddenly lost all power without warning. The accelerator became completely unresponsive and the vehicle rolled to a stop in the middle of a main highway. The engine would not restart. Due to the electronic gear selector, the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral, leaving both the truck and trailer immobilized in a live traffic lane. This created a serious safety risk to myself and other motorists, especially as I was in an area without cellular service and could not immediately call for assistance. The problem has not yet been formally diagnosed, as the vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting inspection. However, the symptoms are consistent with known failures described in the recall affecting these engines. The vehicle had previously undergone recall inspection on September 1, 2025 and was cleared at that time. The vehicle has been inspected previously by an authorized gm dealer as part of the recall process, but no defect was identified. It has since been towed to dennis gm following the failure and is pending further inspection. No police or insurance inspections have been conducted. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. The engine failure was sudden and without any indication of an issue beforehand.
While driving home from phoenix on hwy 95, 30 miles out of tonopah on the way to reno engine propulsion and the complete engine failure occurred while driving at 75 mph. No warning at all. No cell service, had to use onstar to be our savior. Thank god they sent a tow truck, although my wife and I with 2 dogs had to wait 4 hours for the tow truck, while semi’s rolled by us going 80 mph. Dealer performed diagnostics on my truck and has to replace the engine due to engine failure. I had the recall completed in September with the new approved oil and cap. I know this is an ongoing problem with gm’s 6. 2 engine. Complete engine failure while driving at 75 mph. No engine warning sign. Screen went blank. I will no longer trust this truck or have any confidence in the truck once I get it back. I sure hope gm pays for this. This has caused me endless anxiety.
While driving down the highway experienced a partial loss of engine power causing jerky/rough operation, harsh shifting, and unpredictable behavior. Was told by the dealer service manager that it was likely a misfire in one of the cylinders. After diagnostics and servicing that included changing spark plugs, wires, and a full engine service it was later confirmed to most likely be due to a stuck lifter and will require a complete engine replacement. I have subsequently learned that this is a common problem with this l87 engine and may be an early indicator of failing crank bearings associated with a recall for later model years of my same vehicle. Seems to me that recall ought to be expanded to include earlier models with l87 engines.
Engine developed a low knock type noise just above idle while beginning to move in the parking lot. It was also noted pulling away from an intersection at low rpm under light acceleration. Oil pressure was normal, 30 psi and approximately 50-60 at cruising speed. Low level knock began earlier in the day but no other symptoms. Oil level was checked and found to be at proper level. At mile 2 into my trip a chirping/ squeak type noise was heard under light throttle and light load at approximately 1500 rpm. The noise stopped when accelerator was released. Rough running sensation followed the noise under the load. Noise returned when the accelerator was pressed and then the engine stopped running while traveling 45-50 mph. Placed the shifter to neutral and attempted to restart, engine rolled slowly for a brief moment and then locked up entirely. Starter only clicks when attempted after that. Vehicle left me stranded with no heat on the shoulder of the highway in the dark in northern michigan on March 5, ambient temp was 28 degrees. Vehicle towed to closest dealership which is also where it was purchased for inspection on 3/6/2026. General motors customer care contacted and case opened. No assistance with repair at time of callback.
Getting off on highway and when I got to the light the truck stuttered and shut off. Will not turn back on. When I try to start it it stutters and will not turn on.
Driving along a main road at 40-45 mph and coasting toward a traffic light, the engine stalled out. Traffic light turned green and the vehicle would not accelerate. There were no warnings, check engine lights, or sounds. I could not pull to the shoulder due to traffic and had to pull into a left hand turn lane. The truck would not restart. Electrical systems seemed fine. Engine would turn over but not start on multiple attempts. One attempt finally got it to start but it immediately stalled. I was stuck in a dangerous situation at a busy intersection and no way to move the vehicle. It has been towed to the dealership.
On Saturday at approximately 5:30 p. M. , while driving on a two-lane city street with vehicles around me, my GMC sierra began malfunctioning. The gauges flickered, warning lights appeared, and a transmission warning activated. As I attempted to safely pull over, the vehicle began stuttering and then completely stalled in the middle of traffic. Cars swerved and honked to avoid hitting me. Fortunately, no collision occurred, but the situation was extremely dangerous and frightening. Aaa towed the vehicle to the GMC dealership. When I informed them of the incident, I received a text asking whether an over-the-air update had been performed prior to the stall. I confirmed the vehicle had received an update within the past three months. I was then told there is a bulletin stating that after an over-the-air update, the vehicle may suddenly lose communication with multiple modules and stall. The foreman indicated this was likely the cause and that they were consulting technical assistance. I asked when it is considered safe to drive a GMC vehicle following an update, as I was never warned that the vehicle could suddenly lose power and stall without notice. I was told they were investigating further. Yesterday, I was informed that engineering directed them to replace the ecm (engine control module) and the fuel pump control module, with the ecm expected to arrive next Wednesday. I have not been given a confirmed timeline for completion. This appears to be a serious and known issue within GMC, yet there has been no recall and no warning provided to consumers. I was unknowingly driving a vehicle susceptible to sudden and complete power loss. This failure placed my life, my family, and the safety of others at significant risk.
The vehicle is subject to safety recall n252494001 (NHTSA campaign 25v-274) due to manufacturing defects in the engine crankshaft and connecting rod bearings. • component/system failed: the 6. 2l v8 (l87) engine crankshaft and connecting rod assembly. The engine is available for inspection upon request. • safety risk: the defect can cause catastrophic engine damage and sudden loss of propulsion while driving, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. • dealer/manufacturer confirmation: the problem was confirmed via the issuance of safety recall n252494001. A dealership inspection was performed previously as part of the recall. • warning signs/symptoms: common symptoms include engine knocking, check engine lights, and hesitation before sudden failure. The issue with the remedy: federal law (49 u. S. C. § 30120) requires manufacturers to remedy safety defects "without charge". As a permanent safety remedy for this defect, gm has mandated a switch from 0w-20 to 0w-40 (dexosr) oil for the life of the engine to prevent bearing failure. However, the dealership and manufacturer are refusing to provide this mandated safety spec change without an ongoing $85 surcharge per oil change. While they performed the initial "inspection" oil change for free, they are now using the recall-mandated spec change to create a financial burden on the consumer. Because 0w-40 is now the mandatory factory requirement to prevent the safety defect, charging a premium for it constitutes a failure to provide the recall remedy "without charge. " general motors refuses to offset this cost, effectively penalizing the owner for a manufacturer safety defect. The dealership is also failing to honor my platinum wrap warranty and gm prepaid service contract to perform the continued oil changes without additional charges.
Engine lost all power while I was attempting to make a left turn at a very busy intersection. Dash kept saying “check battery”, jump pack did nothing. Engine wouldn’t start.
Began with a misfire on cylinder 5 code p0305. Replaced spark plugs, wires, and coil pack. Misfire still existed. Fuel injector on cylinder 5 was stuck open and had to be replaced. Misfire still existed. No spark from new coil pack on cylinder 5, replaced coil pack connector. Misfire still existed, but lifter tick became present. Removed cylinder head and found exhaust lifter on cylinder 5 was bad and needed replaced. Currently awaiting parts delivery (only available through gm dealer). Have been without vehicle for 7 weeks now. Was told this was most likely related to active fuel management.
"vehicle is experiencing symptoms consistent with the 6. 2l l87 engine bearing failure investigation (NHTSA probe January 2026). Despite two repair attempts, the dealer claims 'operating as designed. ' I have experienced persistent engine stumble, hesitation, erratic tachometer needle flutter and significant vibrations felt through the floorboard and seats during operation. These defects substantially impair the use ,value and safety of my vehicle. This is a serious safety concern as it creates a risk of catastrophic engine seizure at highway speeds. Manufacturer has been sent a formal 'last chance' letter under NJ lemon law. " reference # 1771884.
The def tank in my truck is defective and its the second time in the last 14 months it has broke. The part is now back ordered and according to the dealership this is a nationwide issue regarding these specific trucks. I have contacted around 10 dealers in my area and all tell me the same thing that they have multiple trucks waiting on the same issue. I have not had my truck for over 2 months and have no idea when I will be getting it back due to dealership having no idea when the part will be released due to the back order. This seems to a huge issue with these trucks and gm is doing nothing to help resolve it. I've reached out to gm directly and get no assistance and now have made 2 payments on my truck and the dealership refuses to give me a loaner vehicle. I am looking for some help or relief on what to do to go about my issue.
I was driving on an overpass and suddenly loss propulsion in my vehicle. My vehicle stopped all of a sudden and while driving, leaving me stranded in the middle of the roadway blocking traffic. Numerous motorists stopped to give a hand but the vehicle would not switch gears from park, to neutral to even give me a hand moving the vehicle out of the roadway to the side/shoulder. Due to this issue, authorities were dispatched to my location to conduct traffic control and subsequently called in aide of a tow truck to safely move my vehicle to a better location. I used onstar in my vehicle and also spoke with a representative who notated the incident and I was advised that a tow truck would take approximately 90 mins to 2 hours to reach me. In this instance, that was too long of a wait for events going wrong with the vehicle itself and was subsequently transferred from the roadway to a GMC dealership, namely group 1 south on the gulf freeway. They are handling my repairs and have diagnosed that the engine needs to be completely replaced and are in the process of repairs. If any information is needed regarding status or repairs, please contact the dealership directly as I do not have any physical or written information on the status of my vehicle. Attached is the towing receipt.
On the afternoon of 01/20/26, I was merging onto the highway in my 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 when a loud bang was heard from the engine compartment at approximately 60 mph. Immediately after the ban was heard, several indicator lights on the dashboard were illuminated, including the esc, check engine light, and parking brake light. A power loss was felt when attempting to accelerate and the banging noise worsened anytime the accelerator was depressed. I was able to drive the vehicle to the nearest gm dealership that coincidentally was at the closest exit off of the highway I was traveling on. The dealership performed diagnostic and determined that the damage was caused due to the ongoing gm recall associated with safety recall n252494000. My vehicle had previously been inspected as part of the recall and was found to have passed. Vehicle had been driven approximately 4,000 miles after recall was performed.
My vehicle recently experienced a sudden flashing check engine light, severe misfiring, and rough engine operation, creating an unsafe driving condition. An inspection by an authorized GMC dealership, serra Buick GMC champaign, confirmed a failed deactivating valve lifter on cylinder 5, documenting that the lifter ceased movement after a single engine rotation. The dealership advised that the failure necessitates replacement of all lifters and extensive internal engine components, at an estimated cost of $5,650. 75. This defect is not isolated, unforeseeable, or the result of consumer misuse. It is directly associated with general motors’ active fuel management (afm) system, which has been widely reported to cause: •premature lifter collapse •camshaft damage •severe engine misfires •loss of power while driving •catastrophic engine failure.
2026 Sierra 1500 at4 with 3. 0l duramax diesel. Three major issues. 1. 2960 miles, thrust bearing failure caused low oil pressure and internal damage. Vehicle needs complete engine replacement. The truck is still at the dealer with no eta on engine arrival and replacement. 2. Vehicle has severe electrical issues. Battery replaced on second day of ownership due to over charge and smoking. The truck would randomly lose the ability to produce sound through infotainment system on start. This includes warning sounds and audible turn signal sound. Dealer said it’s caused by faulty amp which was replaced. 3. The truck shut off (full system shutdown) and the transmission failed over to neutral while driving on the highway and failed to restart. Barely restarted on second attempt. Dealer has no idea why it is doing it. However the vehicle was throwing multiple code related to transmission module failure, brake module failure, transmission module failure, etc.
Bought truck 0n 12/26/2025 from lot in michigan had it transported to missouri. First time I drive it check engine comes on and goes into "limp mode". Had it towed to gm dealer and they say it was the high pressure fuel pump. Got it back and check engine light comes back on then goes off then back on again. Not happy at all!!!.
Vehicle stalled out, lost power, left me stranded on side of road. No warning, check engine lights or any other inclination prior. Turn out to be fuel pump control module.
I passed the recall inspection on 12/17/2025 and the higher viscosity oil was put into my vehicle. On 12/25/2025 my vehicle's engine shut off while I was traveling on the highway (I-25). The vehicle went into to neutral and I had to pull over to the side of the highway without power. The vehicle started again and as I was merging onto the highway it shut down again. The truck started again and I was able to drive it home. There were no codes found when I took it in for service on 12/26/2025. On 01/24/2026 I was driving on the highway (us-40) and I had complete engine failure. I had to get my vehicle towed to the service center and a new motor was installed. On March 27th the vehicle's engine shut off again while driving on the highway (us-191). There were no codes or check engine lights on this time either. The service records state that the starter mount stud was loose.

I was driving up the road truck cranked up fine started a morning commute, on cruise control the truck instantly out of nowhere lost power completely with no signs of anything and engine won’t attempt to turn over now. I fear the worst has happened which would be catastrophic internal failure for to a faulty engine & its internals.
I started to notice changes in performance around 75k miles. Seemed like performance was subpar compared to what was the norm. Seemed to lose some power. Minimal at first, more so just recently around 90k. Oil consumption was starting to accelerate at each oil change at 75k, 80k, 85k, 90k. To the point around 85k and 90k that I would not go over even 1 mile from the 5k threshold without changing the oil. Around 90k I could tell it was not getting any better, deficiencies were accelerating it seemed. At 91k miles I started to hear clicking noises and loss of power, starts were getting rough, bouncing at idle. I stopped driving it, only driving it to the dealership where I brought for a look at it. Will be driving it again for them to do a deeper diagnostic. Many misfires at cylinder 5. Po305 the issue. Showed up around 91k miles on 12/17/25 now investigation into my model. I see online.

Transmission valvebody failure, causing rapid, repeated rear wheel lock ups. Videos can be provided. These happen almost daily at highway speeds. This will cause a very bad accident.
12/7/2025 8:48 am engine lost propulsion while driving 35mph enroute to residence. The engine cut off and at the same time we saw a cloud of blue smoke trailing the vehicle. The engine refired and propulsion resumed. I immediately looked at the dash display for an indicator light resulting from the lack of propulsion. There were no unusual indicator lights or messages but the tachometer needle dropped about an inch and went back up again rapidly. The engine had resumed running. This loss of propulsion and resumption occurred two more times while my foot was off the accelerator. After the third incident the vehicle seemed to be running normally. I stated we had only about two miles to get home and I hope we make it. The next day I called deluz service department to notify them of the incident. I left a message but my call was not returned. I updated service staff of the new incident when I dropped the vehicle off for a previously scheduled appointment on 12/11/25.
On November 16, while driving on the highway, my GMC vehicle suddenly lost engine power without warning. I was forced to stop in traffic, creating a dangerous situation and putting my life at risk. The vehicle required towing and has remained at the dealership since that date. The dealership determined that the engine requires replacement. Repairs have been significantly delayed, including an incorrectly ordered replacement engine, and the vehicle remains out of service more than two months later. This defect caused a sudden loss of power while driving and presents a serious safety concern. After the incident, I contacted the dealership immediately. Diagnostic appointments were scheduled and then canceled by the dealership twice, which delayed inspection and repair. I was only able to leave the vehicle at the dealership on December 12 due to these delays.
My truck went into "limp" mode and had very little power. It was towed to the dealership where they diagnosed the issue as a bad solenoid causing the engine misfires. The solenoid was replaced, but the issue was not fixed. Now the dealership is stating the engine has bent lifters and the repairs will not be covered under the ongoing massive engine recall. The vehicle had the pico test on 9/17 and it "passed", but less than 3k miles later and the engine failed. This is a clear safety issue and well known by NHTSA and gm. Now I'm negotiating with the dealership to cover repairs and my truck has been gone nearly a month.
2026 GMC sierra elevation x31 with 3. 0 duramax diesel engine, 132-miles, thrust bearing 1. 53-mm out of tolerance requiring engine and turbo replacement. Engine build date 25219 (07 Aug 2025), vehicle assembly date August 2025, purchased 10 oct 2025, entered service for engine and turbo failure on 11 Nov 2025, returned 10 Jan 2026.
While driving my 2024 GMC sierra denali ultimate on the highway, the engine suddenly failed without warning. The truck shut off completely while I was traveling at highway speed. I was fortunate to be able to safely maneuver to the shoulder, but the sudden loss of power created a serious risk of a collision with surrounding traffic. The failure appears to involve the engine or engine control system. The vehicle engine is currently available for inspection upon request. Prior to the incident, there were no warning lights, messages, or unusual symptoms. The shutdown occurred abruptly with no prior indication of a problem. This vehicle previously received the ns25249400 safety recall repair on August 12, 2025, and it reportedly passed all required checks at that time.
While stopped at traffic signal, vehicle suddenly stops running. Restarted vehicle and had to feather the throttle to keep it running. Engine began to run normally so I continued driving. When I reached approximately 35 mph, a loud rattling noise started and experienced a severe loss of power. Fortunately I was able to safely get out of the traffic lanes to the side of the roadway. I inspected the vehicle, no oil leaks, no coolant or transmission leaks. No warning indicators on the dash. Oil pressure normal. Temperature normal. I limped the vehicle home to be towed to dealer. Approximately 2 months ago this vehicle passed the recall inspection and had the recommended oil change. There was a previous warranty repair performed on a stuck exhaust valve in the #8 cylinder. The vehicle was also brought in to the dealer for suddenly cutting off while driving approximately 50 mph. Again I was able to pull off safely. The vehicle then started normally and I proceeded to drive. The dealer inspected the vehicle and could not replicate the issue, and found no electrical or mechanical trouble codes. There were absolutely no warning indications prior to each of these events.
Ecm - engine system code p0700 and tcm - transmission system code u0073. The truck went in to first gear and wouldn't go over 5 mph on the highway. The dealer is saying it can't be replicated but it's happened multiple times to the vehicle in the past week. The truck was taken to the dealership and inspected but they claim nothing is wrong. The check engine light came on as well as the aforementioned codes.
