Was traveling home and started losing power going up a hill on xxx. The truck was surging, the check engine light came on and an audible warning of no (low?) oil pressure. The truck shut off on a busy interstate highway and barely got onto the shoulder. The tow truck driver had to lay on the ground with part of his body in the lane of travel to place "skids" under the rear tires because there is no way to place this vehicle in neutral for a tow without a special gm tool. When I contacted harry robinson GMC service center in [xxx], they told me that it was no longer a safety recall because the truck had passed diagnostics and new, high viscosity oil was put in the truck xxx. The GMC app says code p0016 which is the dreaded 6. 2l camshaft to crankshaft alignment that accompanies engine component failure. I was driving on 96 w. In slow traffic on the freeway when the vehicle put itself in neutral and shut off.
While driving enroute to a concert in [xxx]. , in the passing lane on [xxx] around [xxx] & just before exit 22(mile marker 21) during rush hour on 7-23 at 5. 09pm, my truck abruptly lost power and shut off! it would not start, I could not engage "n" from "p" to attempt to push my truck to the far left side of the highway. This was a "very dangerous" situation as I could have been rear ended or much worse! I immediately called sos/on star for assistance. In the meantime, a police officer and state troopers showed up to divert the traffic around my truck. Eventually, a "hero" vehicle showed up and at the direction of the police, my truck was "dragged" from the passing lane to the emergency lane. As for getting a tow truck, 1 finally showed up after 5+ hours. I found out the you all have a contract with "aaa", which is the worse when it comes to getting any assistance. I was towed back to [xxx] to south town GMC dealership & arrived at 11. 25pm. It was only the next morning that I received an email from onstar dated 7-23 at 5. 07pm, with an "advance diagnostics" advising of a critical issue with the engine & transmission. The code was: p129f, which is the fuel pump and/or module. My truck now sits at the dealership with a dead battery, waiting for them to address. I have heard that there are issues and recalls in certain vehicles with this similar issue. I do have "extended warranty" protection thru ally that I bought. However, the shock is finding out that the only way to get it into "n" is a special dealer tool that goes into the transmission under my truck! are you serious??????? to have no ability to put my truck into "n" is not only unacceptable, but extremely dangerous. Especially with what happened to me & my family. At this point, I am at the mercy of my dealership to find the time to address this issue. Until then, I have no transportation & very upset with the stress of all that happened! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b.

I was driving on the highway when the vehicle started to make clinking noises. The vehicle started to lose power as I accelerated it would feel like something was pulling me in the opposite direction and the knocking noise would get louder. Ultimately, I had the vehicle towed to a dealership. This vehicle passed the l87 recall not too long ago, and the vehicle is barely used.
I was driving to work on 7/20/26 and my vehicle loss engine propulsion , engine failure and unable to restart vehicle and shift gears.
P1098 code indicating stuck/ unresponsive engine coolant control valve. N252508341 exists for this part; however claim is my VIN is not covered under the bulletin or included on any standard warranty coverage. Part should last more than 150k miles, vehicle less than 90k. Less than 2 weeks ago suffered a complete ebpv failure that destroyed coolant and def lines, also not covered. No explanation for why my specific VIN (a 3. 0l diesel in the supposedly covered my) is excluded. Have been unable to find evidence of any applicable vehicles that were 'covered' under this bulletin. Fault forces an unexpected derate which can engage while accelerating, including while merging into freeway traffic. This is an obvious safety hazard. Engine check light illuminates approximately 30 to 60 seconds before derate limits top speed and throttle response. No messages to operator. Dealer has confirmed issue.
Total engine power loss while driving 70mph on the highway in steady moving traffic causing a safety hazard, with 3 young children in the vehicle. No prior warning lamps, messages or symptoms to indicate a problem. Engine completely shut down while driving and will not turn back on. Had vehicle towed to the dealership. Certified GMC dealership did a full inspection and indicated that the engine assembly needs to be fully replaced. Nhtsa campaign 25v274 for vehicles 2021 and newer is for the same exact engine failure issue with the same engine size. I would appreciate you exploring the possibility of covering this catastrophic malfunction as an exception to the aforementioned recall campaign. Many other drivers have noted the same failure with the 2019 as was included in the recall for 21-24. Thank you for your consideration, please feel free to reach out to me directly to discuss further. I look forward to hearing from you!.

The engine went into limp mode as I made turn leaving the damn I was is in town and it was a lot of traffic could’ve been bad if I didn’t pull into the median left me devastated and no crank no start I’ve only had the truck a year it went down a month from when I purchased it.
The vehicle stopped dead in traffic and would not restart. No warning lights. This is a huge safety hazard. Had to be towed to a dealership. The dealership and other diesel shops said the issue is a known catastrophic cp4 fuel pump failure. The fuel pump shreds and metal shavings are found throughout the fuel system. Requires a full fuel system replacement. . . Quotes have been obtained from gm dealership and local diesel mechanics, ranged from $15,000-$17,000. There is a known fix and could have been solved by replacing the fuel pump with an alternative one, without putting us in a dangerous situation. There is also a settled class action lawsuit directly associated to this fuel pump and issue, however the vehicle was purchased in GA and therefore not included. Based on the VIN the truck would be included if sold within a qualifying state. Gm corporate and dealers know about this problem and the safety risk, but are not even suggesting the fuel pump conversation as a repair. They are putting customers in dangerous situations and leaving them with high bills.

The fuel pump control module went bad and the vehicle shut off while driving. The vehicle is only 3 years old. Everyone I know with a gm truck or SUV has had the same issue and the dealer service writer even told me they get at least 6 vehicles with the same issue per week. There is already a recall for gm SUV's for 2021-22 model years but not for anything else even though many other vehicles have the same issue. They replaced the module under warranty but it is all but guaranteed to just keep happening.

While driving at highway speed, my 2025 GMC sierra suddenly began slowing down without warning and lost propulsion. When I pressed the accelerator, there was no acceleration response. The vehicle felt like it was braking or dragging instead of accelerating, creating a serious crash risk in traffic. A warning message appeared instructing me to “put in neutral and restart truck. ” I followed the instruction, but the vehicle would not restart. It sounded like it was attempting to start, but it would not start normally. A “service esc” warning also appeared. The vehicle was towed by aaa to a GMC dealership and remains available for inspection. The dealership provided a diagnostic trouble code report showing active codes: c2a07 engine control module indicated torque signal malfunction; u0101 lost communication with transmission control module; u0131 lost communication with power steering control module; u0140 lost communication with body control module; u0146 lost communication with central gateway module; u160f lost communication with brake system control module 1 on can bus 1; u1611 lost communication with engine control module on can bus 2; and u3003 battery voltage circuit voltage below threshold. The vehicle had approximately 22,000 miles at the time of the incident. The failure has not been repaired at the time of this complaint. The concern appears to involve a safety-related electrical, propulsion, powertrain, esc/brake, and module communication failure that caused sudden loss of propulsion, no acceleration response, warning messages, and a no-start condition.

While traveling at highway speed during rush hour commute, the vehicle lost engine power and stalled. While coasting, I tried to restart the engine several times without success. Before coming to a stop, I attempted to get to the shoulder safely. Unfortunately, a portion of the vehicle was left partially in the lane and on the shoulder. Once I was completely stopped, I tried to put the electronic shift control into neutral so I could push the vehicle safely to the shoulder. The shifter would not allow me to shift into neutral and other override methods researched failed to work. I continued to try and restart the vehicle without success. I was in an unsafe position during rush hour commute for about 50 minutes until roadside assistance arrived and loaded and towed the vehicle. There was no warning of the issue prior to the incident. A code (p129f-fuel pump driver control module speed signal incorrect) was produced after the stall occurred via my GMC app. My vehicle was towed to my local dealership for service, but have not received the vehicle back at the time of reporting.
While driving my vehicle, the engine and transmission lost power and the check engine light came on. The vehicle went into limp mode and engine propulsion was limited. Had I been traveling at a faster speed, this would have been very unsafe. After coming to a stop, placing the transmission in reverse did not move the vehicle and there was a grinding noise. I was able to savely move forward in limp mode, but the shifting was harsh. I was able to find an empty parking lot to safely park. The truck was towed to jim winter dealership in jackson mi for inspection.
1. The l87 engine loss of propulsion failed and is available for inspection at the service department at power swain Chevrolet dealership, fayetteville, nc. 2. I, other vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians were at risk. That vehicle could have come down on the highway, causing a vehicle pileup, which could have caused mass casualties. 3. The problem is known; the service advisor informed me the vehicle's engine needed to be replaced. 4. There were absolutely zero warning lamps or my GMC app alerts to announce vehicle issues. I have attached the last two maintenance records I have on hand. I suspect the dealership will try to deny responsibility for repairs. An extended warranty most nearly means we expect it to break down and your safety is not our concern.
So I made an appointment to have my truck recalled and the Wednesday before I took it, and it cranked no start and I called the dealership. Ask if they had any other those like this and they said that it could be the fuel injector module and so I got it to a mechanic shop to read the codes and it gave me a code p062b and I asked the dealership to look into it and they never figured out what we were not wrong. I just testing the battery. Well, then I got it back after the recall was done and new transmission valve body put in and about 30 miles down the road it started to shake violently and had a flashing engine light so I got it home called the dealership the next morning because they were closed set up another appointment got it to the dealership dealership said it had a couple misfires but since it wasn’t over 100 they weren’t concerned even though I’m pretty sure it is related to the fuel model going out because it has been cranking rapidly whenever I try to start it, but they won’t do anything to figure out what’s wrong?.
I am submitting supplemental evidence regarding my 2021 GMC sierra (VIN [xxx]) for recall query rq26001, campaign 25v-274. Despite multiple repair attempts, my vehicle remains unsafe and non-compliant with gm service bulletin n252494002. The recall remedy was performed deficiently. [xxx] northeast Buick GMC installed a remanufactured short block instead of the required complete engine, reused the original seized-engine oil pan (which continues to leak), and failed to address critical electrical damage. Documentation proves they deleted labor operation 14buz (engine electrical) after their technician noted a blown mega fuse. A second dealer, penske Chevrolet, subsequently deleted labor operation 77cvz01 from my repair order, demonstrating a systemic pattern of ignoring recall-required repairs. Electrical damage has cascaded, resulting in a burnt fuse block and active faults p0615, p0617, p26e4, p26e6, u0623, and u0284. More critically, within 24 miles of my last service, the vehicle developed a new, severe safety failure: the "service brake pad monitor" system failed, accompanied by a red "service system" dashboard alert and a noticeably spongy brake pedal. These brakes were recently serviced, yet this failure introduces a new risk of crash not present prior to the recall "remedy. " gm executive resolution case xxx has provided no resolution, reimbursement, or safety assurance, ignoring all deadlines since xxx. I possess extensive documentation, including service orders showing deleted labor operations and diagnostic logs. I request this update be integrated into the investigation of rq26001, as the current remedy is demonstrably ineffective and has exacerbated safety hazards. The manufacturer’s refusal to remediate these issues, despite my compliance, leaves me with an unsafe vehicle and significant financial loss. I am prepared to provide all supporting records to substantiate this complaint. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Lifters (the part that opens and closes engine valves) fail prematurely. There was a loud ticking noises, rough idling. Took to dealership and they advise that yes the lifters are failing and not drivable at this time.
The vehicle received the official n252494001 recall oil remedy on 06/27/2025 at 15,438 miles (but suffered catastrophic engine failure and loss of propulsion at 33,661 miles on 05/30/2026).
My truck engine has failed due to metal shavings in the oil related to the l87 engine recall, and the failure occurred after gm had replaced the truck’s oil as part of the recall remedy. The recall remedy did not prevent the failure of the engine.
I again have noticed intermittent pulsing at low to medium speeds. At roughly 1k-2k rpm the engine at or about 10-20 mph is pulsating or hesitating with an obvious pulse which you can see on the tachometer as well (bouncing. ) it seems like there is either a computer, fuel flow or electric issue. Also, at speeds up to the 40 mph range, this is happening as well. Yesterday while towing a small 7'x12' empty dual axle trailer I noticed it again, I occasionally use my trailer to haul small loads up to 4500lbs. This has happened before but this time I decided to notate this on your site, since reading about ongoing problems with the 2020 6. 2l GMC Sierra 1500. I was aware of the other following years, 2021-2024? issues and that is why I purchased this 2020 year model. My truck will be available for inspection when the request is sent to me. Safety was not an issue, I ran my truck most of the day. I have not yet notified my Chevrolet dealer, roger dean, cape coral, FL. My truck has not yet been inspected for this issue. There were not any lights or warnings on display at time of incidents. Thank you, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On November 20, 2025, my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 at4 equipped with the 3. 0l duramax diesel engine began experiencing intermittent engine overheating conditions. Concerned about a potential safety issue, I contacted a GMC dealership and was advised that because no diagnostic trouble codes were present, there was nothing to diagnose or repair and that I should continue driving the vehicle. Over the following months, the overheating condition continued intermittently. On may 24, 2026, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly overheated, displayed fault code p1098, and entered reduced power ("limp mode"). The vehicle lost normal performance and acceleration while traveling in traffic. This created a significant safety hazard because the vehicle was unable to maintain normal highway speeds, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or other traffic accident. The loss of power occurred while driving and without sufficient warning, leaving the vehicle unable to safely perform as expected in highway traffic. After researching this issue, I found numerous reports from other GMC and Chevrolet owners describing similar overheating, coolant control valve, thermal management system, and p1098-related failures. Many owners report symptoms involving engine overheating, reduced engine power, and limp mode operation while driving. I am concerned that this may indicate a broader defect involving the vehicle's cooling system and thermal management components. The vehicle exhibited overheating symptoms for approximately six months before the final failure occurred. Additionally, I understand that certain gm vehicles have been subject to service actions involving coolant control valves and thermal management system components. Given the similarity of symptoms, I am concerned that the overheating condition reported in November 2025 may be related to the same type of failure mechanism, yet my vehicle has not been included in any recall or special coverage program.
My truck will not start when I press the push-button ignition. After waiting a few seconds and trying multiple times, it typically starts on the third attempt. Additionally, it will not restart after the auto stop feature activates at stop signs or traffic lights. This is very concerning, especially when pulling into oncoming traffic, as I’m worried the truck could shut off while I’m crossing. I have already had the battery, starter, and alternator checked, and all components tested fine. However, the issue is still occurring. There are also no warning lights or messages displayed on the dashboard.
Dashboard lit up with engine light and stated that there's no compulsion.
Coolant control valve.
After driving my vehicle for a short period of time I stopped to go shopping. When I returned to my vehicle I started it as usual and the check engine light illuminated. I began driving and within 0. 25 miles I received an info enter message that stated my vehicle would have reduced acceleration and to please drive safely. My engine fans became noticeably louder and ran the entire trip home (about 15 minutes). After pulling into my driveway I sat in the vehicle and listen to the fans continue to operate. Additionally, my onstar system, wifi, and navigation systems quit working. A p1098 code was returned when using a diagnostic code device. Disconnecting the battery would cause the check engine light to extinguish and for the truck to operate without reduced acceleration; however, onstar, navigation and wifi would not work. After shutting off the engine and then restarting the check engine light would once again illuminate and the reduced acceleration message reappeared.
I was on my way home from work and everything was driving fine and then I got 1/4 mile from my house and the motor started making a very loud grinding sound. I could barely accelerate. The issue happened out of nowhere. No issues prior to this happening. I was driving about 40 miles an hour when the issue started and I limped it to my driveway, luckily I was not very far away. I have a 3 month old baby and this was my reliable family vehicle. Who’s to say what could have happened if I was driving at a higher speed with my child in the car. When it happened it started shaking really bad. I checked everything that I could. It sounded like my motor was starving for oil. I decided to go ahead and change my oil to see if that could have been the issue. I had just changed the oil approximately 2000 miles before this. I changed the oil and filter. Went to start it up and still same very loud grinding sound, shut it back off and have not started it since cause I’m afraid to damage it further. I checked the oil that I drained out of it and looks like small metal flakes in the oil. No warning prior to this happening. Just out of no where it sounds and felt like my motor was going to blow.
While driving, the vehicle suddenly began running rough, losing power, and displaying engine warning lights. Due to the severity of the issue, the vehicle was towed to a GMC dealership for diagnosis. The dealership diagnosed lifter failure and a cracked cylinder head. The dealership also documented coolant intrusion, oil/coolant contamination, and evidence of internal engine damage. Repairs were attempted, including replacement of the cylinder head and lifter. After the repairs were completed, the vehicle never left the dealership because it continued misfiring on the same cylinder. Gm later determined the engine had a failed piston ring and scored engine block requiring complete engine replacement. The vehicle has approximately 55,000 miles, has been properly maintained, and was purchased new. This catastrophic engine failure resulted in loss of power and major internal engine damage at relatively low mileage. I also opened a case directly with gm customer assistance regarding this failure. The case involved multiple escalations after the initial repair attempt failed and the vehicle ultimately required full engine replacement. Gm ultimately advised that only partial assistance toward the engine replacement would be provided, leaving the customer responsible for a significant portion of the repair cost. I am submitting this complaint because this vehicle appears consistent with the ongoing NHTSA investigation involving gm 6. 2l l87 engine failures and loss of motive power.
While driving into work, I noticed a knocking sound from the outside of the vehicle. Once parked, upon further inspection I narrowed down the area of the noise to the bottom rear of the engine/front of transmission. Fortunately, I was able to park in front of my office building and wasn’t stranded on the side of the road but under different circumstances it could've been the side of a busy highway or hours from home. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership I originally purchased from, the dealership was able to duplicate the issue with me present. Later that afternoon I was informed that the engine had failed and a replacement would be ordered. There was no prior indication of a problem or warning/cel’s. The engine failed after the dealership had completed the engine recall ( pico test and 0-40w oil change ) related to the vehicle. I am reporting this in hopes that it helps with the investigation. This has been very disappointing for me as I have supported the brand of vehicle for many years. Only to have many issues under 80,000 miles and to lose confidence in the vehicle I purchased and the company.
I was driving to work when my vehicle’s check engine light illuminated, accompanied by a warning message stating, “low oil pressure—turn vehicle off. ” I immediately followed this instruction and shut the vehicle off. When I attempted to restart it, the engine cranked repeatedly before finally starting, but the same warning message reappeared, prompting me to turn it off again. A few months prior, I had the vehicle inspected at the dealership, where I was informed that it passed the 6. 2l engine national recall inspection. On April 9, 2026, the vehicle was towed to the dealership for further evaluation. On April 10, I was contacted and informed that technicians could hear a metallic noise coming from the engine. However, they stated that the readings from the pico test were not high enough to meet the criteria for engine replacement. The dealership recommended replacing the camshaft position sensor but could not confirm whether this repair would resolve the issue. They also indicated that I would be responsible for all associated costs. Despite the presence of concerning symptoms, including abnormal engine noise and repeated warning messages, I was advised that general motors would not approve an engine replacement unless the engine either completely seizes or fails both required diagnostic tests. At this time, my vehicle has only failed one of the two tests. As a result, I have been left without a reliable and safe vehicle, which is significantly impacting my ability to commute to work. This situation places me at risk of financial hardship and potential job loss. I am seeking a resolution that ensures my vehicle is properly diagnosed and repaired so that it is safe to operate.
Ticking at cold start. 4/02/26 on way home from work. Truck loses acceleration while driving. Bug jumps then display says low power mode. Truck will start but will not move forward or in reverse. Rpms increase but no propulsion. Recall was performed 11/17/25 and passed inspection through romain GMC evansville, in. Called romain on 4/02/26 and was told someone would return my call 4/03/26. Still waiting. Plan to call kate faupal dealership in henderson,ky on 4/06/26.
On 18 March 2026 I was driving at night at highway speed with my family (wife, [xxx] son, [xxx] daughter, and [xxx] son) when, without any warning, my 2023 GMC sierra at4 with 20,700 miles abruptly and violently shuddered and reduced speed from approximately 65 mph to 30 mph uncontrollably. Shortly after the initial speed reduction the vehicle presented simultaneous alerts that it was in "reduced acceleration mode", the "emission system control" had failed, and the that the check engine light was on. Although the vehicle claimed to be in reduced acceleration mode I was unable to prevent it from continuously slowing to 0 mph. I attempted to use the accelerator to move from the left lane of traffic to the right shoulder without causing an accident. However, the vehicle violently shuddered and would not accelerate or maintain speed. I managed to maneuver around traffic and stop the vehicle on the right shoulder. Due to the unlit highway and my family's emotional state after the incident, I determined the safest course of action was to attempt to get the vehicle to a nearby parking lot. After turning the vehicle off and back on, I managed to slowly drive with my flashers on (despite the vehicle continuing to violently shudder) approximately 1 mile to a wal-mart parking lot. Once there I noticed I received an email from onstar diagnostics that my vehicle experienced a significant engine malfunction with an associated p129f code. I coordinated for the vehicle to be towed to bill cramer Chevrolet GMC inc in [xxx] the following day. My vehicle had no lights, messages, or symptoms of this issue prior to it occurring. The dealership replaced the fuel pump power control module under warranty, cleared the faults, test drove the vehicle, and returned to me on 31 March 2026. The dealer mentioned they service roughly two vehicles of similar make and/or models daily for the same issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
While driving on the road the vehicle started sputtering and stalled! we pulled to the side of the road and tried to start the car but it rolled and would not start. We called a a mechanic who had it towed and found out that the fuel pump and the fuel control board had failed. Both have been replaced and the truck seems to be working again. Heard several other persons had this issue with their gcm sierra elevation so we wanted to report since there is currently no recall. Luckily the traffic was not going that fast or we could have had an accident and been seriously injured.
The failure involved the engine (6. 2l l87 v8), specifically suspected internal components such as the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, as identified in a current recall. The vehicle is currently located at dennis gm in corner brook, newfoundland and is available for inspection. On March 9, while driving the vehicle normally on a main highway, the engine suddenly lost all power without warning. The accelerator became completely unresponsive and the vehicle rolled to a stop in the middle of a main highway. The engine would not restart. Due to the electronic gear selector, the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral, leaving both the truck and trailer immobilized in a live traffic lane. This created a serious safety risk to myself and other motorists, especially as I was in an area without cellular service and could not immediately call for assistance. The problem has not yet been formally diagnosed, as the vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting inspection. However, the symptoms are consistent with known failures described in the recall affecting these engines. The vehicle had previously undergone recall inspection on September 1, 2025 and was cleared at that time. The vehicle has been inspected previously by an authorized gm dealer as part of the recall process, but no defect was identified. It has since been towed to dennis gm following the failure and is pending further inspection. No police or insurance inspections have been conducted. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. The engine failure was sudden and without any indication of an issue beforehand.
