Vehicle has intermittent problems with the fuel delivery system, causing stalling, very low rough idle, unable to accelerate. This happens in traffic, at stop lights etc. The make and model of my truck is included in a safety recall bulletin #14515b January 2015, however my particular truck is not on the recall list. I have contacted gm and they are unwilling to replace the fuel pump flow control module that is causing this safety hazard. My belief is that gm recalled certain vehicles and excluded some that should be in the safety recall scope.

I have been smelling a strong odor of gas coming thru my air vents while my vehicle is running, particularly while I am idling and just after acceleration. My mechanic stated he has repaired several of these issues on other GMC's. The problem is the top of the fuel tank is rusted where the fuel pump is located and gas sprays upwards onto the bottom side of the bed and is very costly and difficult to repair. I'm sure gm is aware of the problem, however, they have chosen to ignore the issue. This is most definitely a safety issue!.

The contact owns a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving 25 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump control module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in any open recall. The failure mileage was approximately 84,240.
Due to a faulty design and or materials used the fuel pump module assembly located on the top of the tank has prematurely corroded and caused a dangerous situation with potential threat to life as well as contaminating the environment. Gas is leaked out of the unit and can become very dangerous if unnoticed or not repaired. Vehicle was purchased new in 2012 and has only seen 4 winters. Mechanics at the garage stated it was a common occurrence they had seen in numerous vehicles and caused by a poor design in which snow and salt can accumulate on top of the tank ratting the unit and gas lines prematurely. I contacted the manufacturer and they were not concerned and considered it "normal" wear and was an unfortunate situation. Gas leaks when stationary and is leaked when system is pressurized spraying the undercarriage of the vehicle and a major concern for potential fire or explosion when gasoline is vaporized.

Reference the recent newspaper article involving the faulty fuel gauges on vehicles. . I just purchased a 2000 gm sierra p/u truck that I later found had a defective fuel level sensor inside the tank. Thinking I had a 1/2 tank of gas I got stranded on a side road 22 miles from home. It costed me a $1,000. 00 to replace the unit as well as the fuel pump which are one unit. The dealer told me the problem is common on all large gm vehicles.

Internal failure of part in fuel tank that caused the fuel gauge to not read accurately, but allowed the low fuel light to operate correctly. This part was not a part of the fuel pump, but worked in conjunction with the pump as the pump was a warranty item ,and this part was not.

I have 2 of these vehicles and know a few friends with the same. The fuel pump and fuel gauge in these vehicles are factory defective. They are very, very inaccurate in telling you how much fuel you have. I have run out of fuel many, many times with 1/2 tank, 3/4 tank full of fuel. This is very very dangerous since you have no warning and lose all steering and brakes with no engine power. A lot of my friends have had the same problem with very similar makes and models.
