1 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 02/09/2026

I was driving on a highway on my way home from work. Thank god there was not a lot of traffic because my truck just shut off lost all power, then I received a message on the dash to put on neutral and restart. I tried multiple times to turn it back on. It never turned on and had to get it towed to nearest dealership. It took them a week to inform that the engine locked up even though I tried to take it for the recall they told me to wait and reschedule the appointment. Never got a new appointment until the engine failed and I got it towed to the dealership and have also not received a new kind of loaner from gm. This will be my last GMC truck I purchase.

2 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/01/2025

The backup camera in the dark on this vehicle is unusable. Someone will eventually run someone over. I have added brighter lights everywhere on the back of the vehicle and the camera is still useless at night. The dealer told me it looked fine to them (they checked it in a lit garage). There are hundreds of complaints across all forums.

3 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/22/2025

While towing a trailer on highway 77 in northern wisconsin, my 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 experienced a sudden engine failure. The dashboard lit up with alerts for the engine, transmission, abs, and traction control. I safely pulled over in a 55 mph zone with narrow shoulders and heavy truck traffic due to nearby road construction. The truck lost all power, and I had to block the driving lane to transfer the trailer to another vehicle, creating a hazardous situation. There were no prior warnings or issues. The truck had regular service at independent shops, and I had checked and topped off the oil that morning. Lahti towing & service recovered the vehicle, changed the oil (no metal shavings), and replaced the camshaft sensor, but the truck still wouldn’t start. They then towed it to rhinelander GMC, where a broken timing chain was diagnosed, requiring a full engine replacement. The vehicle is currently at rhinelander GMC and available for inspection. I have photos of the dashboard alerts and data from the gm app documenting the incident.

4 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/30/2025

The backup camera visibility at night is poor, making it very difficult to see behind the vehicle. This poses a potential safety hazard for pedestrians who may be in the path while reversing.

5 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/26/2025

I was driving down the road, got a quick message. It said something about lean and to pull over (on dashboard). And by the next stop light the engine stopped. The truck no longer turned on. It did put my life in danger because it left me stranded in between two lanes. The truck was inspected by one of my mechanic friends who owns a shop. He let me know my engine is seized.

6 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/10/2024

Extremely poor rear camera quality at night. Common complaint on GMC and chevy 2023/2024 models. Unsafe to reverse at night due to poor camera image quality. Cadillac has already issued a recall on their units which are identical to the GMC and chevy. Many posts on facebook GMC at4 and chevy zr2 owners groups about the safety issue.

7 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/30/2024

I am writing to complain about that general motors has issued a retrofit program for 2022 model vehicles that did not come with safety features due to the microchip shortage. I purchased my vehicle new in 2021 and the vehicle did not have the option of having safety features at the time of purchase. I find not having the safety features in a large vehicle to be a safety concern for those that use the vehicle or around the vehicle. General motors should add the 2021 model vehicles that also did not have the ability to have those features on them added as a part of their retrofit program.
