1999 GMC sierra extended cab problem: for the second time the cheap piece of plastic locking mechanism for the drivers side seat failed, or rather broke in half again. Not only will I have to pay for it to be serviced again, the stupid, sick piece of engineering designed is a huge safety hazard. This is why people don't buy american anymore. It must be recalled or people will die.

37 Seats problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/23/2008

GMC Sierra 1500 front seat metal failed on the upper back cushion/ support of seat causing the seat to fall on one side. This in turn caused the drive ability of the truck to be dangerous for safety of the driver and all in truck. This is not at a welded area but in the metal itself.

Cloth seats accumulate pollen and dust creating a potentially dangerous problem for people with breathing conditions - this problem is acknowledged by gm via a TSB numbered subject: excessive lint accumulation on cloth seats (replace seat covers) #07-08-50-018 - (08/28/2007) and then again with document id# 2023269. I know this typically does not qualify as a safety concern but the situation is relatively extreme to the point where after a while that using a vacuum cleaner is no longer effective for individuals with breathing problems.

Failure Date: 06/01/2007

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500(na). The original seat covers were replaced because they absorbed lint very rapidly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and replacement covers were installed. The replacement mats exhibited the same failure. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 2,000. The current mileage was 24,000.

Failure Date: 06/21/2006

The contact owns a 1999 GMC sierra extended cab. He received a recall notice from the manufacturer to repair and replace the driver and passenger side seat belt. The recall repair was completed 06/21/06 and stated that the seat belts worked for two months. On 08/2006 the driver side seat belt failed. The contact is unable to lock the seat belt due to it being lodged into the seat cushion. Two months after the seat belt stopped operating normally. While driving the vehicle the seat cushion separated, dropped to the floor and both arm rest on the passenger and driver side fell off of the seat. The dealer stated that he was responsible for replacing the seat belt. The cost of the seat belt was $75. 00 and the seat cushion was $500. 00. The contact filed a complaint with GMC?s consumer assistance center and was given case# 71-494868469. The failure mileage was 15000 and the current mileage was 169000.

Failure Date: 05/18/2006

The contact owns a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the driver's seat is loose. When he depresses the brake pedal, the seat moves forward. When he depresses the accelerator pedal, the seat moves backwards. He first noticed the failure approximately one year ago and the failure has since worsened. The dealer stated that the contact would have to pay for the repair because there is no recall for the failure. The engine size was unknown. The current mileage is 93,000 and failure mileage was 80,000.

Failure Date: 02/01/2006

Seats popping noise when weight shifts (start,stop,etc. )first attempt was to replace the seat back. Second was to replace the entire seat minus the cover. Third time in the service manager wanted to contact the area gm manager for direction. The gm area manager told the service manager to make no repair and direct me to call gm. This truck also has been in for service to the brake rotors to be re surfaced with only 4,600 miles on the truck. The transmission has re calibrated two times one for the lock-up torque converter,and once for a hard shift from first to second gear. The truck has a harder shift now than before.
