2 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/11/2019

While traveling to denver colorado, my power steering shut off at random on the interstate. I pulled over and turned my vehicle off, and it came back on. A few days later while driving in the snow, it went out permanently and I was stranded until a tow truck arrived. It took 3 days to get my truck fixed, and the whole steering system, rack and pinion, had to be replaced. It cost me over $2,500 to fix and get back home safely. I was traveling on a straight road at 75mph on I-70 west when the steering went out the first time. The second time, I was making a left turn and it went out and nearly caused a wreck.

4 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/06/2019

Vehicle was in motion driving down the highway when complete power steering failure occurred. It was raining at the time, and this took place approximately 30 seconds after driving through a shallow puddle in my lane with the driver side tires. Vehicle was immediately very difficult to steer, even at highway speed. I am a fit male with strong arms and it was almost more steering resistance than I could manage. Had this occurred while turning, I doubt I would have been able to control the direction of the vehicle. Even while driving in a straight line, if this had happened to a person with very much less upper body strength, they would have been in real trouble, as they would be unable to steer the vehicle safely off of the roadway. The shop diagnosed the problem as being a failed electric powered rack and pinion (steering gear). They said that this was not related to the previously issued recall on the power steering, and that it required replacement of the apparently shorted out steering gear.

5 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/12/2019

The rack and pinion on the truck has started to click and pop. When I took the truck in they dealer said that the stearing gear in the rack and pinion have started to failed. The truck only had 33,000 miles on it when it started to go bad. Ive looked into this and it seems to be a problem with many more gm truck owners. This happens anytime you turn the steering wheel.

6 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 09/27/2018

When driving the truck after extended periods of time (I. E. 1 hour or more) the vehicle will flash a stabilitrak warning and then power the vehicle off. This happened while my son, girlfriend and I were on a trip to florida driving 70 mph down the interstate. I took to a dealer and they informed me that the battery cables were loose. 4,000 miles the truck has done this episode again and the dealer now tells me that I need to replace the electronic rack and pinion on a truck with 65k miles with a cost of over $3k. There are numerous examples of this happening with trucks just like mine and gm isn't responsible? hard to fathom that in the 5 vehicles I have owned, not once have I had to replace a rack and pinion and the newest vehicle that I have every owned has this issue.

9 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

I own a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500. I have always taken exceptional care of my vehicle. The motor has always had a knock when you start it,which devalues the truck & it also has always used oil. The rack & pinion has started leaking. I have always owned a truck & have never had a rack & pinion go out let alone at 152000 miles. It also is losing antifreeze but there are no leaks. The fuel gauge has never worked properly, now its also flashes low coolant light when its not low. I have seen numerous complaints on line concerning these same issues & lawsuits. I do not feel the consumer should be having to foot these bills. I have called gm about my concerns & they say there is nothing they can do. What can we do to get a recall for all these problems. My truck is one of the ones that have dex-cool antifreeze.
