2 Wheel problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/13/2025

At 12,018 miles on my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 I experienced a rear wheel lock up. I have 4wheel drive capability but I had the truck in rear wheel drive only. Thankfully I was not going fast at the time. I was going between 35-45 mph when experiencing the lock up. As I was going down a straight away, I experienced a rear wheel lock up of my 10l80 transmission. My tires were squealing like crazy. I pulled off onto the side of the road. After shifting to reverse and then park and then drive the problem corrected itself. When I brought it into the dealership, they could not find anything wrong with it. Additionally my trucks software was up to date and not lacking any updates. I don’t drive this truck very far and only drive about 150 miles a week. A rear wheel lock up of this magnitude at this low of miles is concerning. I’m not rough on the truck by any means. It’s more so a family vehicle than a hauler. I have got the truck serviced 3 times since I bought it for regular maintenance so that’s not an issue either. There were no warning indicators that this problem was occurring when I experienced the rear wheel lock up. This could have resulted in a collision with vehicles around me if I had not been aware of what was occurring.

3 Wheel problem of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

• the airbag system failed to deploy during a collision that resulted in the total loss of the vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle was operating with a 17” spare tire (undersized compared to the standard 20” wheels), which may have contributed to the accident. The vehicle has been totaled and is currently in the possession of the insurance company, but may be available for inspection upon request. • despite the severity of the collision, none of the airbags deployed, which could have resulted in serious injury if the circumstances were different. The use of an undersized 17” spare tire may have affected the vehicle’s stability, braking, or performance, contributing to the crash. • no. The vehicle was declared a total loss and has not been evaluated for defect reproduction by a dealer or service center. However, I am aware of related recalls and lawsuits regarding both improper spare tire sizing and airbag non-deployment in 2020–2021 GMC sierra models. • the vehicle has been inspected by the insurance company during the total loss evaluation. A police report was also completed at the scene of the accident. To my knowledge, the manufacturer (gm) has not inspected the vehicle at this time. • no. There were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms prior to the crash. The vehicle gave no indication of any issue with the airbags or tire compatibility leading up to the accident. I was involved in an accident in my 2021 GMC sierra. At the time, the vehicle was operating with a 17” spare tire installed, which I later discovered may be significantly undersized compared to the standard 20” wheels. During the crash, the impact was severe enough to total the vehicle, but none of the airbags deployed. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but I believe the non-deployment of the airbags represents a critical product safety defect. I’ve since learned that gm has recalled similar vehicles for incorrect spare tires, and that lawsuits have been filed regarding calibration issues.

5 Wheel problem of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/26/2025

I was driving approximately 25-30 mph coming over an overpass moving into the right hand lane when my truck right front end failed. The steering and brakes locked up for approximately 50’ until I hit the curb for the sidewalk and stopped. I safely exited the vehicle checked the left side of my truck for damage and didn’t find anything. I walked around the back of my truck and came to the passenger side where I found my right front wheel and tire completely broken away from both upper and lower control arms, the ball joint broke and failed as well as the brake line. If I was driving on the highway at 65-75 this catastrophic failure could have resulted in a fatal collision. The night before my [xxx] daughter and I returned from her outdoor ed trip in sausalito and we drove an hour home to napa on [xxx] and [xxx] . I thank god this didn’t happen with her in the car on the highway. I had my truck towed to jimmy vasser chevy in napa so I can see if the extended warranty will cover the repairs since it was an obvious catastrophic failure of the whole right front end. It’s still sitting there. The extended warranty inspector came Friday to take pictures of the damage information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Wheel problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/20/2025

I was driving at approximately 25-30 mph, accelerating from a stop light and I felt a clunk, heard a grinding noise and my back wheels locked up. It was snowy/icy conditions so the back end of my pick-up slid out to the right a little bit before the wheels unlocked and I was able to regain control. I could have slid off the road or into another vehicle had the wheels remained locked. The computer system then alerted me to a transmission issue and to reduce speed immediately and call for service. The pickup was then unable to shift out of 1st gear. The vehicle has been towed to a dealer and I have been informed the valve body in the transmission has to be replaced which is 8-12 weeks backorder.

9 Wheel problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 09/10/2024

No accident happened as the wheel was never installed due to not meeting the load weight capacity rating of the vehicle. The wheel is marked max load 1150kg (2230 per axle) and the vehicle weight loading label shows the rear axle capacity at 2706kg. The wheel is also marked as sae j2530 compliant but does not meet j2530 section 3. 5 due to the low load capacity. These wheels are widely available in the aftermarket and list most of the 2000-2010 gm 2500hd/3500 pickups as the application but do not meet load capacity on any of them. Please note that the VIN is for a typical 2008 sierra 2500hd pickup in a scrap yard. I do not own that vehicle. It is a weight label photo from hollander parts finder on that pickup.

10 Wheel problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/23/2024

My end of year 2019 produced GMC Sierra 1500 5. 3 v8, 4wd x31 4 door truck had a serious malfunction that could have caused great harm. I was driving down my driveway at approximately 20 mph when the truck's rear wheels locked up, stopping the truck instantly, sending me into the steering wheel narrowly missing the windshield with my face. After a moment, I attempted to drive again to move the truck out of the travel path. When I did, the truck back wheels completely locked up again (when I reached 6mph).  I had the truck towed to my local shop and was told that it was the transmission locking up making the wheels lock up. The part (transmission) that was ordered for repair was on national backorder and took over two months to get my truck repaired and functional again. I was fortunate to have a warranty (now expired) and pay a percentage of the repair fee, however, the total repair fee was near 12,000. This was paid for by myself and my warranty company. Considering the part was on national backorder, I know that these types of problems are occurring with many of these trucks. I learned of the recall for this same problem that my truck had and checked the recall for my VIN. To my complete surprise, my truck was not listed as being recalled, even though the exact same problem occurred with my truck. I would like to get the cost of the repairs refunded considering it took gm so long to recall the problem leaving me to pay for their errors. This is not a cheap automobile and was expected to be built well. I am very fortunate that I was not on a major highway or traveling at a high rate of speed when this happened. It was a very scary ordeal being propelled into the windshield of your vehicle when driving due to abrupt, extremely unusual 100% mechanical failure of no fault of your own. This recall should be expanded to include all vehicles that have the faulty transmission, including mine. Repair receipts can be provided. I appreciate your time and consideration.

11 Wheel problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/02/2024

The contact owns a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the horn failed to function as intended. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the right lane sensor stopped working as intended. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving 60 mph in the rain or on rough asphalt, the rear suspension caused the vehicle to fishtail to the right. The contact turned to the left to control the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle returned to normal functionality after the failure. The low transmission fluid warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle with an electrical systems failure. The independent mechanic informed the contact that there was adequate transmission fluid inside the transmission, and it was unclear why the warning light was illuminated. The contact was informed that weights were added to the wheels to balance each wheel. The vehicle was not yet repaired for the other failures. The contact stated that the transmission was replaced a year prior to the failure, and the horn had failed to function soon after the transmission replacement. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

The dealership mislead me and lied to me about warranty and even after I paid $10,0000 cash I was wrongfully done by this bussiness by no means was the bussiness trying to conduct good bussiness with me and I also have a dissability and a child with a disability. Incident date: 5/9/2024 description: I purchased a 2006 GMC sierra $10,000 cash was given and paid off but I was scammed by the dealership. I bought this vehicle under the impression that I was being sold a good safe vehicle for work and my families needs are also a priority. I never test drove the vehicle till I drove home after purchasing it. Not even 4 mins on the road and I noticed the abs light came on the dashboard with the brake light and the front brakes began to smoke. I contacted the dealship but was disregarded and not offered an exchange or any type of solution for my problem I even explained my job required me to use my vehicle for transporting material for work and since I was in charge of 4 people that woul be requireing skills for customer service and making sure all customers were satisfied. Pacifi northwest motorsports took advantage of my impariment I feelscammed and I want to have my money back or at least exchange for the value of $10,000. I was never offered any type of sloution from the bussiness the owner laughed at me and said that it sucked to be me and hung up the phone on me. The bussinness owner lied to the attorney generals office about offereing me a remedy the only remedy I would consider is my money back and an exchange for my troubles I feel that this is a vehicle manufacturer malfuncunctiom. 13 Wheel problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/22/2024

While making a righthand turn at approximately 10-15 mph, my passenger side front wheel failed at the ball joint and collapsed. Reviewing the carfax, this is the 2nd time this has happened to this vehicle (the first was on the driver side wheel). I noticed safety recall report 21v-718 seems to describe the issue I'm facing with the "front upper control arm experiencing accelerated wear. . . Leading to ball joint separation", but according to gm, since no unsatisfied recalls are shown on my VIN report, there's nothing they're willing to do. I believe the failed part number is 573. This failure left my truck sitting in the middle of the road obviously with no way to move it other than a tow truck dragging it onto his bed.

14 Wheel problem of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/23/2023

5 days after purchasing and while driving down the interstate at 80 mph, there was a loud clunk at the same time the back wheels locked up for a split second, long enough to burn the tires and throw everyone in the vehicle forward then the vehicle continued on. It happened three more times, we trailered it and brought it to the dealer. They said nothing is wrong with it. However, I was able to locate the previous owners who stated they'd been bringing it to several dealerships to have it taken care of for the past six months and every dealer said that nothing is wrong with it. But the same thing happened to them for six months. One mechanic in idaho even replaced the motor trying to fix it and it still continued. The dealer I purchased from never mentioned it having a new motor, and I pulled the carfax report and it shows several times it was in the shop including the motor replacement, but the shop visits aren't detailed it just says maintenance. Several mechanics we've spoken with say it's in the transmission, drivetrain. But the dealer refuses to do anything unless it'll replicate when they test drive it. But they don't test drive it on the highway or for a long enough time. Multiple owners now in multiple states the same problem and no one will help. This could be a catastrophic incident if the roads had been a little wet or someone was close enough behind us when it happened it would have been a serious car accident, if not worse. I am not sure you can help but im reaching out to everything that I can find.

15 Wheel problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/30/2023

Noticed a scraping noise after new, recommended tires installed on my stock truck. Checked the door label to ensure correct tires installed, they were, returned to the tire facility and they recommended I ask a repair facility to investigate. Found that the tires are rubbing the upper control arm when fully turned left or right (both sides affected). Went online to discover that this is a common issue with the 2018 and similar GMC sierra and chevy silverado trucks. This is a safety issue caused by a design deficiency. Two things can happen. One, the tire can fail. Two, the upper control arm could fail, causing the vehicle to be uncontrollable. This could be fixed by restricting the extreme left and right travel in the steering system or redesigning and replacing the upper control arm so it doesn’t interfere with the tire. This is an unacceptable safety issue caused by a design deficiency and needs to be addressed by ntsb now.

16 Wheel problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/12/2022

Purchased 2018 truck new from dealer on 2/19. Came with 20" rims and the spare tire is on a17"rim. Currently, there is a gm recall # n212346510 and NHTSA campaign #21v985000 for this issue. My truck is not included. Hazard: based on failure of the anti-lock braking system when operating vehicle with three 20" rims and one 17" spare my vehicle should be include in the recall.

23 Wheel problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 02/07/2020

Driving my 2019 sierra on a slightly snow covered road applied brakes and truck pulled to the right and antilock brakes never worked causing me to hit guard rail. Called insurance talked with dealer about what happened they said to contact gm customer service. Had my wrecked truck fixed and when gm got back to me they said there was nothing else they could do because I contacted my insurance instead of dealership???? now I have received another recall notice telling me my brakes are not responding properly. Guess I need a lawyer I don't know.

24 Wheel problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/09/2019

The factory wheels do not grip the road. This was from day 1 of getting it brand new from the dealer. This has led to spinning the tires, fishtailing, and sliding while braking. This happens with even moderate amounts of pushing the gas pedal or braking well ahead of a slow down or stop in traffic in front of you. This is very dangerous and takes away the drivers ability to maneuver as we should.

25 Wheel problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/24/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly veered to the left. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch. The rear passenger wheel dislodged from the vehicle and was located approximately 150 yards from the crash sight. The air bag did not deploy and the driver sustained a bruised neck. Medical attention was not received. Police report number: spc32b7n80x was filed at the scene. The contact discovered that a 10-inch section of the brake rotor was missing from the vehicle. The vehicle was recently serviced for NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes). The manufacturer and hudson GMC (2023 south rd, poughkeepsie, NY) were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.

26 Wheel problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 09/27/2019

I own a GMC sierra which is 14 months old, purchased in dubai uae from alghandi auto. The last service for 40000 kms was done on August 8th, 2019 and no problem was highlighted except the battery that was subsequently changed. On Friday early morning (Sep 27, 2019), we have escaped a major accident on sheikh zayed road on account of the front wheel axle that just broke/came apart while driving, causing the front right wheel to detach from the vehicle, subsequently skidding to the right causing major damage to the suspension and many other parts in the vehicle. This could have caused even death of my son who was driving the vehicle. I would appreciate an immediate call from your office to resolve this as I am no longer interested in driving this car that can cost me & my family our lives. This needs to be done immediately as I would otherwise be in the process of seeking legal advice against GMC.

27 Wheel problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

The abs and break system warning light has been coming on and staying on. I lost my breaks leaving a parking spot at my local walmart as I was pulling out of a parking spot! we then made appointment for the break system to be checked/repaired. The abs control system light went off for awhile but then comes back on even after the repair of said repair to break lines. My truck also has no fuel gauge that does not work. With these issues on my vehicle makes it very scary to drive and makes driving limited. I am not able to drive my truck long distances due to concerns of safety and possibly of abs warning light, break issues, and fuel gauge! I was driving my truck to pick one of my daughters up from school to lose power while pushing on gas then some jerking and a foul smell of rubber burning coming from the front right tire area. I then had someone look at the truck and was told that what ever it was happening that everything looked okay and it was possible just a break sticking. It has happened 3 different times. My truck still has approximately 98,000 or so miles on it. This truck also has bad corrosion on bottom baseboards of the truck. I saw below that I am asked for specific date of issues. I can not provide specific dates since there has been so many things wrong which has happened at different times.

28 Wheel problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/10/2019

While driving on the road at regulated speed, my warning light turned on and one of the wheels was lower in air psi comparing to the other 3. I thought the tires were already worn out so couple of weeks later I replaced the tires, I saw that the warning light popped up once again so I went back to the tire shop and what they found out was that the rim has a slight crack on the inner side and air was leaking out, the week following the tire replacement I took my car to the dealer for a solution and they failed to assist me and denied the manufacturing defect.

31 Wheel problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/03/2019

I am a heavy highway construction inspector for wvdoh and while working on I 81 sb in martinsburg, wv this morning around 2:00 am while performing my duties I attempted to pull out of my lane closure into traffic when my truck literally got stuck halfway out into live traffic. It was as if I was stomping on the brakes instead of giving it gas. Fortunately I reacted swiftly and put the truck in reverse to back into my lane closure preventing a collision with a tractor trailer traveling at speeds in excess of 55 mph. I was literally shaking when I realized how close of a call it actually was and that not only could I or the truck driver have been killed, but so could the workers on my job have been injured and/or killed. I had to have my truck towed back to my field office. For some reason the truck started driving properly again. There is definitely something wrong and it is extremely fortunate that no injuries occurred on my project. I did notice a post on this website explaining the very thing that happened to me this morning. This issue must be addressed immediately before people are killed. 32 Wheel problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 02/13/2019

The vehicle 4wd system remains engaged and will not disengage. Upon further investigation the system effects steering and drivability. Also effects speed of the vehicle. The vehicle utilizes a code c0398 and show a message of the dash service 4wd. This is due to faulty software installed by the manufacturer. Will cause damage to mechanical parts if driven on the vehicle and is a safety hazard. Gm reference # issued to me when issue complaint of the out of pocket cost to update the software as required by gm to fix their operating system. My reference number is 9-5058496526. Same issue resulted in 2015 GMC sierras that caused gm to issue a service bulletin #28770. Software issues are not wear and tear components. Gm faulty software is the responsibility of the gm as they can cause safety and damage to the mechanical parts of the vehicle.

Since day 1 of purchasing new,to current date, there is vibration at idle. There is vibration at highway speeds of 60 mph plus. It has been to the dealer 5 times for testing. This is a known problem with thousands of vehicles. Gm says it meets their specifications. The dealer balanced the tires 3 times, no luck. The dealer replaced the tires, same issue. I am told the vibration at idle is normal. This problem is distracting when driving. I have been dealing with gm and the dealer for 7 months with no resolve. . Read more...

35 Wheel problem of the 2013 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

Two of the four wheels were losing air and tested locally. It was determined air was leaking from each of the two rims in a similar location. Note-air was not leaking from the tire or the seal between the tire bead and rim. Instead, the rim itself appears to have a latent defect causing a slow leak. I contacted a local GMC dealer to see about warranty coverage or manufacture interest in assisting with this safety issue. Vehicle is out of warranty and gm was willing to participate at 10% of new replacement cost, see attached. Two of the four rims were tested for the defect. Both rims exhibit the same defect. That 1/2 of the rims on my one truck are leaking, it suggests a larger defect in the standard rims. I am concerned about motorist safety resulting from defective rims.
