I was inspecting my truck for proper fluid levels and wear when I found my transmission dipstick tube laying on my engine oil dipstick tube. I went to grab it to see what was going on and it was just flopping in the wind. I pulled my truck onto ramps, slid underneath and inspected the issue. I found the transmission dipstick/fluid filler tube completely fractured in half. The dipstick is the only thing holding it in place. I searched the web and found that there had been a recall on this failure, but that the recall had not been applied to my VIN. My truck=2008gmc Sierra 2500hd with a gas 6. 0l engine and a 6l90 transmission. My mileage=71,800. The tube is completely severed just above the bracket that mounts the tube to the bell housing. Mind you - this is a 4 wheel drive pick up that I use as a 4 wheel drive. Sound silly, I know, but the recalls were against 2010-2013 escalades and such. An escalade!?? they sited "engine vibration" I believe the failure is more likely to be due to over hardening of the tubing leading to brittleness. Bouncing and engine vibrations just did the rest of it. I spoke with a lady at gm and she created a case for me. She said to go to the dealership, have them inspect it and then get with their customer service experience contact there. We'll see what that results in for me.
