2015 GMC Sierra 2500 duramax driving east with the flow of traffic on 80 reaching the summit towards tahoe. We suddenly experience at "change fuel filter" warning which only lasted approximately 20 seconds before the message then read "derating". Upon this second notification we immediately lost power to the engine which resulted in reduced braking capability and steering at literally the top of the mountain. We were traveling in snowy conditions with many semi trucks around us. We tried to safely drift to the shoulder to the safest possible place. The sudden lack of power left my family, including 3 children, in a very dangerous position. We ended up being stranded with tow trucks being very scarce and challenging to find. The nearest rental car took 2 hours to get to, and we had to shuffle kids all over. One child was crying and scared to death at all the cars zooming by and our inability to move. It appears that the cp4 fuel pump may have failed leaving us almost instantaneously in an unsafe situation.

While traveling on the interstate at speed and passing slower traffic; engine power fell off, change fuel filter now, engine derate, and check engine lite, occured. I had to maneuver with no power through the traffic to get out of the travel lanes. I was then stranded on the interstate as the truck would not start. I was able to get a mechanic to come and change the fuel filter on the side of the highway, but the truck would not start. The truck was eventually towed to a shop where it was diagnosed with a catastrophic failure of the fuel pump (diesel motor driven pump).

The cp4 fuel pump imploded and sent metal shards through my vehicles entire fuel system.
Driving east bound on i70 coming into denver. Truck shut off with no warning at 80mph on steep downhill grade causing loss of all power facilities in the truck. No brakes, no power steering. I endangered the lives of every single person on the road thanks to this failed fuel pump. Further investigation shows bosch (the pump manufacturer) had instructed gm to use a lift pump on this item and they have disregarded that recommendation leaving people in danger of serious injury or death. This item needs a recall and gm is refusing to do so because this occurrence renders the truck in need of 13k+ I'm repairs. Shame on gm and shame on NHTSA for not doing their job.
The contact owns a 2011 GMC Sierra 2500. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine and exhaust gas recirculation warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to ranz motor CO (1401 w beech st, chanute, KS 66720) where the fuel filter housing and high pressure fuel pump were replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic where they informed the contact that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 220,000.

My fuel pump and injectors failed while I was driving, stranding my truck in the middle of traffic right where a city street was changing to a country road. The GMC dealership falsely claimed that this was caused by using unapproved fuel. The fuel I used was b20 biodiesel, with 80% renewable diesel, which meets diesel specifications and is a legal road fuel in California. They also claimed that a cascade of other problems were all caused by my fuel and refused to apply my warranty.

Bosch cp4 fuel pump failure. Please reference ea11-003 and find the same fuel pumps that were found to fail on Audi/vw vehicles are also used on gm, Ford, and Dodge vehicles. Said pump failed during driving without warning causing complete engine shutdown and loss of power. Ceramic and metal internals of the pump disintegrated and traveled through the fuel system, subsequently causing the injectors to fail. Similar to the findings in ea11-003, page 16 paragraph 2, the repair is to cost approximately $10,000 to fix the entire fuel system.
