A year or so after recievinv my airbag recall service, my dash started cracking. It started at the passenger side airbag. It is now cracked in other places and rattles constantly while in motion. I feel this is a safety hazard. I've yet to see a GMC/chevy from 2007. 5-14 that this is not a problem. It seems that the dash pieces could cause serious injury/death if not fixed. Gm will not fix the problem on their end with out the consumer paying $450-750. They said that was the replacement cost with the exact same dash. That dash would most likely crack as well. Why has gm not been held accountable? will people have to become injured/dead before the problem is fixed? pictures can be sent on request.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2011 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA camapaign number: 16v381000 (air bags); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the dashboard fractured in the upper left corner of the passenger side air bag compartment as well as near the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic where it was diagnosed that the dashboard needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called jerry's Buick GMC (3100 fort worth hwy, weatherford, TX, 76087) and was informed that there was no recall regarding the fractured dashboard. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Side airbags deployed while pulling off the shoulder of the road. GMC informed me the vehicle was traveling at a slow speed and airbags deployed because foot was on brake and accelerator at same time.

I got in my truck yesterday and noticed a crack in the dash at the passenger side air bag. The crack was not there before. I am concerned that if the bag deploys, the crack in the dash could become a projectile or cut the air bag resulting in a serious or fatal injury. My truck is garage kept and is not exposed to extreme temperatures.
Cracked dash going from the passenger side airbag cover to the dash vent. Also, the mounting bracket for the sames vent clip is broken causing the dash cover to bounce around.

While driving straight/upslope on a dirt road the side air bags deployed in my 2015 Sierra 2500 hd pickup truck. There was no impact and absolutely no damage to the exterior or undercarriage of the vehicle. Vehicle would not restart for several minutes after the air bag deployment (if on a busy street I would have been unable to get out of roadway).
The dash is cracked around the passenger side airbag which could be a safety concern during airbag deployment with sharp pieces of broken dash being propelled towards occupants.
The dashboard in my 2013 GMC Sierra 2500hd has a crack that runs from the radius of the upper left hand corner of the passenger side airbag to the fwd edge of the dashboard that runs parallel to the windshield. The crack penetrates through the dashboard completely creating two separate sections with almost complete freedom of movement. Activation by the airbag will cause interference/contact between the device, and/or its components, and with the non-secured sections of the dashboard and most likely result in them being separated/dislodged and potentially launched in the cabin resulting in possible strikes to occupants. The vehicle was parked in my driveway with no crack and when I emerged the next morning and entered the vehicle, started the engine, the crack occurred. The mere potential for interference between the air bag activation and broken dashboard sections, obviously due to a poor, insufficiently tested design, (reliability testing?) should drive the engineers to revisit current risk analysis tools. It's clear the rpn for this type of failure mode in an fmea would not qualify under current industry standards.
Takata recall. There is an open recall on the vehicle's passenger side airbag. The recall has been active for well over a year and remains in 'incomplete' status. This recall is not being addressed in a timely manner. Given the severity of the damage/injury/death that can occur as a result of the faulty airbag, this delay is unacceptable. I have contacted the GMC dealership in liberty lake, wa, george gee, and they have merely reiterated that a fix is not yet available for recall. Furthermore, I have never received correspondence from the manufacturer notifying me of the recall or its status.
2007 GMC Sierra 2500. Consumer writes in regards to replacement parts not available to repair passenger side airbag recall. Consumer has another vehicle complaint in artemis.
A multi-car collision had occurred at a considerable speed. (sadly a driver had lost a life in this accident) this collision entailed a very large commercial truck being hit head on, by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. ( this 2nd vehicle being a van) after this severe impact with the large commercial vehicle, (which created heavy damage to this vehicle, removing the front axle) the van proceeded being ricochet off the large commercial vehicle, around it, back into my oncoming lane. This resulted in a frontal driver impact head on with the out of control van. Upon impact, the driver's side air bag of my vehicle partially inflated, then rapidly deflated. Thus the airbag never fully employed, leaving me no protection whatsoever. I am enduring many issues due to this malfunction, and wish this matter to be looked into further, to protect anyone else from having to deal with issues like myself. . . Updated 10/07/14.
