The curtain airbags on both the passenger and driver side deployed while driving down the road. The truck is available for inspection although the deployed bags have been cut off in order to drive it home. Pictures were taken before doing so and are available for inspection. My son is pretty shaken up and has injuries to his shoulder, face and his ears are ringing.

Driving back to camper in the late evening and was listening to music and gps was on the screen when I was going approximately 32mph when headliner airbags on both sides went off causing me to hit my brakes and veer into the ditch. I was able to maintain pretty good control but did hit either a rock or stick or something that punctured my wheel sidewall. Unsure if a tree limb then got caught and tore off my bedcover that then left a small dent on the c column on the passenger side. I was able to put my truck in 4wd to get back fully into the roadway and walk about to see potential damage. At that time I only saw my tire was loosing air and bedcover was off aside from the airbag deployment. I slowly made my way home to assess further during complete daylight. I was not injured other than a cut on the hand due to the bedcover and a headache from the deployment. No hard hit or collision and truck did not make contact with tree trunk or any front end damage that would ordinarily come from someone going into the ditch. Reached out to a shop to have them check it out and see if they can see any reason why those airbags would have deployed without force then causing an incident.

I get a recall notice from gm but the dealer won't do the repair without me signing a waiver for any damage they may cause to the dashboard during the recalled airbag removal. Can anyone get gm dealers to do the necessary repair and have accountability for any damage they may do?.

2014 GMC Sierra 2500hd. My dash has started to crack around the passenger airbag and driverside gauge cluster. Dash material is brittle and serves as a hazard should the airbags deploy during an accident.

I called my local GMC dealer (maxwell GMC, round rock, TX) in regard to the takata air bag recall to get some details about the repair (e. G. Length of time for repair, parts availability, etc. ) in addition to their reponse regarding the length of time and parts availability I was told that their was a high probability that the dash on my truck would crack during the airbag repair. I was also told that the GMC dealer would not cover the cost of the dash damage as a result of the airbag recall work. Shouldn't the repair of the air bag cover any related costs as a result of the repair such such as damage to the dash?.
I left my vehicle for service (19 April 2023 - approximately 8:30 am CT) for an urgent safety recall to bommarito west county GMC dealership located at 15736 manchester, ellisville, mo 63011 (phone: 636-391-7200). When I drove the vehicle in the dealership and had not issues driving and steering. And when I picked it up at approximately 12:30 pm the same day the service consultant (joshua delanoix) did not bring the vehicle to me the same as I left it. Joshua asked that I pick it up in the parking lot, instead. I drove off the lot and noticed that the steering wheel would pull severely off to the right side when breaking causing the car to become unstable and steering towards oncoming traffic. I slowed down until I could retain better control of the vehicle to get home. Then, at approximately 4:30 pm, I drove back to the dealership and spoke to the same service consultant. He then referred me to the service manager (pat roberts). I explained to service manager that I could not drive the vehicle safely and requested a safety check. Pat refused to check the service work or the vehicle safety and disregarded my concerns. Afterwards, I spoke to the sales manager (larry buchhorn) and explained again my safety concern and he followed up with the same service manager and told me that there was nothing they could do and that the service manager's supervisor (mike simms) would contact me. Finally, I was allowed to drive out of the dealership with the same safety issue for the second time.

I was in an accident on October 20th 2022 while driving home. U had just reached the top of a sharp crest on a two way road. As I started to straighten out the wheels coming out of the turn I noticed my direction was still as if I was turning the wheel. I tried to brake and pressed the brake but it went to the floor and the truck kept going. I collided with the other vehicle and it was a miracle neither of us were seriously injured or killed. We had problem with the steering box about 2 years ago and had to have it towed to the dealership. The other vehicle was a chevy 2500 with a custom steel flat bed & it slowed me down and I finally came to a stop with the front tires off the road. Neither vehicle alerted onstar & airbags did not deploy. His vehicle miraculously had minimal damage to the cab the majority of the damage was the metal gear box located under the bed in between the cab & tires. It was super scary & left both vehicles disabled.

We were in a roll over accident going under 30mph. I was a passenger in the back seat. When I woke up I saw that the driver was hanging out the door window. The air bags did not deploy. The driver who was also the owner of the truck died of multiple blunt forces. The insurance company had the truck towed to copart in las vegas.

The “service safety restraint” alarm goes off continually on my 2021 GMC Sierra 2500hd at4. The warranty is no longer valid as at the time of occurrence I was at 34,500 miles and when I took it in the warranty had expired due to exceeding 36,000 miles. Extended warranties were not purchased and this began approximately 8-9 months after purchase. The code given is “b0014 driver seat side air bag deployment loop” with a description of high resistance in wiring or wiring harness. After much research I have found that many GMC 2021 vehicles and previous models have had this exact same issue. No dealership as of yet has offered to help or understand that this defect was of their own flawed design. The issue that I am having is exactly the same as other models such as the 2021 yukon, sierra 1500, suburban and others. This is a safety issue and only want GMC to account for their flaw. I do not believe I should have to pay for a design flaw or equipment malfunction that is well known amongst GMC vehicles. I am asking the NHTSA to help me in this matter and the many others who are having the same issue and for the manufacturer to be accountable for their own flaw.
The steering wheel air bag deployed when parked and rear windows were going up and down by themselves. There was no impact.

No dealer can repair my takata air bag due to gm not having a replacement part available. I am concerned that NHTSA and gm are not concerned for my life by having this issue open for so long and answer to the mandated repairs. I will follow up with my congressman and senators. I am afraid when I have to drive and don't have other options for work.
I received notice of a defective front airbag in February, 2021. As of now (about 7 months later) no action by gm to repair.

The vehicle is used as a plow truck on private property(farm). It is not registered or insured. GMC refuses to tow it to the nearest dealership for its airbag recall. They are telling me I have to pay for the tow there and back(18 miles). They have sent out emails stating they will give me a $50 gift card, also they will give me a loaner car. I should not have to pay for there bad airbag. Please help. Thank you for your time I. This matter.
To avoid a head on collision I had to move to the right of my lane and I hit a mountain head on and neither the driver or passengers airbag deployed. The vehicle over turned on its left driver side after skidding along pavement for a few yards it finally came to a stop. There were no passengers. I was the driver and sustained lacerations to my head bruising in chest area and a punctured left lung. The vehicle was in motion going 35 mph.
Dash is badly cracked fragments of dash fall off daily. Could cause severe injury during airbag deployment.
I received a recall notice from gm in 2016. I keep contacting my GMC dealer and they keep telling me that there is no remedy. What is the plan for getting my truck fixed for this recall?.
While traveling on the highway we hit black ice and ultimately ended up with a front impact which turned into a 2 time vehicle rollover. Both front seat belts and buckled during the rollover and did not lock and neither of the airbags in front when off at any point during the collision.

Takata recall, nothing happened so far but dealerships (roger dean Chevrolet cape coral and victory layne ft. Myers won't do a thing to replace the airbags.
Dash cracked on passenger side of vehicle. It happened shortly after we owned the vehicle.
Dashboard under front windshield prone to cracking. Initially this would sound like it is only a cosmetic issue. The problem is that typically the first crack occurs at the front/left corner of the front passenger airbag panel. As the vehicle ages under temperature fluctuation and uv exposure the initial crack widens and more develop. Also, from pictures taken of a 2007 GMC yukon and 2007 Chevrolet avalanche the airbag compartment cover appear to be shifting and lifting as the cracking continues. The degraded plastic surrounding the airbag cover could be a shrapnel hazard to vehicle occupants in such close proximity to an explosive airbag deployment. This could also diminish the effectiveness of the airbag if it is punctured. Clearly the material and construction of this part were not made to withstand the rigors of the installed environment so merely replacing a cracked part with the same new part will, at best, only be a temporary fix. Gm needs to design this part properly so that will maintain it's integrity as a surround of the passenger airbag compartment.
Dashboard cracked adjacent to passenger airbag potential safety issue since there is brittle plastic in the area where airbag deployment would take place. This issue has been reported before by me and many others and yet no action has been taken by NHTSA or gm for a remedy. I'm skeptical about whether it's worth taking the time to make such reports to NHTSA when your response sounds more like it was written by gm corporate communications rather than the public safety advocate you are supposed to be. You claim there is insufficient data to take action. Model years affected are from 2007 through 2014 on numerous gm nameplates avalanche, silverado, tahoe, suburban, yukon (xl), sierra and escalade. Erring on the side of safety should, at least, prompt an investigation from the data already received. It should also be considered that this design and its implementation occurred when gm was being bailed out by tax payers and quite a few of them are now left holding the bag while they are potentially at risk. .
Takata recall: the company that made the airbags is out of business and I was told my dealer cannot replace my airbags.
