3 Tire problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 12/03/2023

I was travelling south bound on the highway at 70 mph when out of no where the left rear tire failed. The tread peeled back like an alligator skin and tore apart the side of my truck and caused me to fishtail all over the highway. I was able to avoid colliding with other vehicles on the road and miraculously made it to the shoulder of the highway. The tire is a goodyear wrangler trailrunner at in a size lt275/65/r20. I still have the remaining parts of the tire. My vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty, but the GMC dealer turned me away and told me I had to deal with goodyear directly. I reached out to goodyear to file a claim for the tire failure and damages related to it. They have been ignoring me for over a week, so I have filed a claim with my insurance company to handle the damages. I'm currently waiting to get my truck into the shop for repairs. There were no indications of any issues with the tire. I had them rotated as recommended by the manufacturer and kept the tire pressure at the recommended levels through the dealer when my vehicle was serviced. The tpms light came on as soon as the tire failed and lost pressure showing the vehicle tire pressure monitoring system was working properly when the tire failed.

Having heard about michelin recalls I checked the tires on my 2001 GMC sierra pickup. I have michelin lt245/75r16 120/116r xc lt4 tires with less than 20,000 miles wear. Two of them are "crumbling" out 1 1/2 inch above the rim. You can see fibers in the holes. There are cracks everywhere on all the tires. They have been covered from the sun. Granted the tires have age but I have never seen "crumbling" before.

14 Tire problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 06/12/2012

On June 12th, 2012 the right rear tire on my 2008 GMC 2500hd experienced a catastrophic failure (blow out). The failure of the tire was the result of tread separation. The tire was a goodyear wrangler silent armor size lt265/70/17, load range e. At the time the tire failed I was driving on smooth, brand new pavement. The temperature was around 70 degrees and I was going between 55 and 60 mph. We were in between construction zones and just approaching a lane closure so my speed had been quite moderate, well below the posted limit. I was pulling a trailer however the weight was well within the specifications of both the truck and the rating on the tires. Although I was able to pull the truck to the side of the road immediately, damage to the truck as the result of the tread separation was extensive and required replacement of the entire right bedside, the exhaust, and the right rear bumper section. Although the tires were approaching end of life there was ample tread depth remaining on all four tires and the mileage was still within the manufacturer warranty. I chose to replace all four tires immediately however the tire warranty was limited to a $16 pro-rated credit. The failure that occurred with this tire is identical to what has been described in the recall notice for the same tire however the date of manufacturer for this tire was 9 weeks prior to the date range for the recall. My insurance company has paid to have my truck repaired and they are now pursuing reimbursement of those costs from goodyear thanks to the photos I took immediately following the incident.
