4 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

I went out to my truck in the morning and my dash board indicator told me to get my brakes checked; everything was fine the night before. I brought the truck into mymechanic and found out that my brake line is corroded and broken. Also found out that this a recurring and consistent problem with the GMC sierras. I have my truck serviced by an authorized service center on a regular basis and this has never been mentioned to me. This needs to be a recall item! serious safety threat. Cannot imagine what could have happened if this occurred 2 days later when I was pulling our 40 foot RV. Shouldn't gm be responsible for this? my truck is now in the shop getting the brake line replaced.

5 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

While pulling a camper-trailer, I applied the brakes and the pedal went completely to the floor. I was able to stop utilizing the brakes on the trailer. I was only a short distance from home and I was able to get the trailer back, keeping the transmission in 1st gear and the trailer brakes. I took the truck to a chevy dealer that was just a very short distance utilizing the gears and the emergency brake. Upon inspection, the dealer found at least two locations where the brake line had rusted through. He recommended to replace all brake lines with a line that was corrosion resistant. The repair was just under $2000. I have not contacted GMC since the truck has 74,000 miles and is out of all warranties.

Brake line rusted out and failed in two spots in the last month.

7 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 09/20/2013

This past week, as I was driving to get gas for our camping trip, the brake pedal went straight to the floor with no warning. I was able to get the dually slowed down without incident, but was it ever close. After getting the truck back to my house, I began investigating the issue as I saw no leak and the reservoir was near full. I saw online that this seems to be a gm issue with a few years of trucks in my age bracket. I climbed up under the truck and found the lines to be shot. Not one with a rust hole, but all of them corroded from one end to the other. I know the truck is 8 years old, but it sits most the time and almost always through the winter. I have only had one other car in 30 years that had a brake line rust. It should not be happening in this high end of a vehicle. My dad bought the matching truck. His sits winters in the barn and only has 50k on it. I will check it this weekend.

8 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 09/07/2013

My 2005 GMC Sierra 3500 crewcab with less than 77,000 miles on it experienced a ruptured brakeline. As I commenced going out my driveway the brake peddle felt mushy then went to the floor. Thank-goodness this happened in my driveway as opposed to out on the road! brake line was rusted and rotted thru causing a rupture in the line and brake failure. This vehicle is not routinely driven but used for hauling a horse trailer, trips or servere weather winter driving; thus the low mileage for it's age. Cannot haul a thing without brakes as the undersized braking system on this truck barely stops itself under normal braking conditions. It is kept clean, dry and stored in an open front building. Since my incident a friend of mine with a very simular truck (maybe a year or 2 newer) experience the same senario. Fortunately theirs happened as they were backing up to park at a campground and not out on the road either.

9 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

I was traveling on the interstate towing a 5th wheel trailer and traffic came to an abrupt stop. I applied my brakes and had brakes than the pedal went to the floor and I lost braking power. I let off the brakes and reapplied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor with low breaking affect. I pule the truck over and found brake fluid coming out from above the gas tank. I carefully took the truck off at the next exit using my trailer brakes to stop the vehicle. I took the truck to the first service station that I saw and had them look at it. They found that the rear brake line had corroded at a clip above the frame rail above the gas tank and advised me that they would have to replace the rear brake line. Unfortunately I was stuck away from my tools and service shops that I use and was stuck being gouged by the service center that I was able to get to for a repair. After I returned home from vacation I questioned the mgt of the service center about the bill. They checked with the local dealer about the hours for the repair and the local dealer advised them that they see this all the time on this vehicle. I looked for a recall on this and found none. I contacted gm about this as just about everyone that I talk to about this problem has all seen it. Gm advised me that it was an isolated problem and that they could not help with the repair since the truck was 9 years old. I advised them that this is a common problem and they deny it but they did offer me $2000 towards a new gm vehicle. I advised them that was not what I was after as I do not need a new vehicle nor want an new vehicle. What I did ask for was 50% of what the repair was as it was a 9 year old truck and they refused. They will not even put the refusal in writing. This needs to be a recall before this problem kills someone as it is a common problem. I seen an investigation to 03 but mine is 04 with same.

10 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 11/28/2012

I picked my stepdaughter at school and at the stoplight to leave the school there were no brakes. I used the curb to slow the truck enough to the lights to change. It was not a busy time and students were not present otherwise this would have been a disaster. I drove the truck home with flashers very slowly home on a back road downshifting and relying in the allison transmission. When I reached home the light came on to service brakes. That was obvious already. This is a 1 ton dually that usually hauls skid loads, paving bricks, etc. I could not imagine what would have happened if the brake lines blew during this time. There is a small rusted pin sized whole in the front brake line that runs on top of the truck frame. I still have brake fluid in the reservoir, but not enough to stop the truck. There was not warning and those lines are tucked up on the frame out of site for inspection. This incident went to fine to disaster immediately. What would have happened if this vehicle were traveling at 70 mph and needed to stop? this is fatality waiting to happen. This size of truck would have killed me and anyone I would have hit at highway speeds. Shame on you GMC. Brakes and rotors were replaced 4 years ago. Emergency brake was repaired by GMC certified shop also 4 years ago due to fact the vacuum plate rusted off. They did not inform me of any issues of brake lines rusting like this otherwise this would have been repaired!.

11 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 11/12/2012

Approaching a stop. When the brakes were applied, the brake pedal dropped almost completely to the floor and stopping was extremely difficult. Discovered that the brake lines which run along the frame behind the driver side front wheel had corroded to the point where one of the lines failed and blew open. The lines are clamped against the frame in this location, and all the 4 lines at the bracket appear extremely corroded.

12 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra 3500

Brake lines rotted on way to garage .

13 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 09/14/2012

I was driving in town closing in on an intersection as the light began to change red, two sedans were in front of me so I applied my brakes allowing plenty of time to stop when without warning the brake pedal sunk quickly to the floor and did not slow at all. I had to veer into the turn lane but could not make the turn due to speed and oncoming traffic. I cleared the intersection and had to veer into a busy parking lot ran over a stop block and continued through 2 yards and out a driveway back onto yet another road where the vehicle finally came to a stop. Both yards had people in them and it was a miracle no one was hurt. This was the most terrifying driving experience in my life. Upon inspection of the brake lines I found a tiny hole in the line crossing the engine yoke. As I furthered my inspection it came to my attention all the brake lines resembled burnt corn flakes and must all be replaced.

14 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 04/14/2012

I first noticed that the anti-lock brakes were activating at slow speeds ( 5-10 mph ) under dry road conditions. This was prior to brake line incident on 4-14-2012 but I am not sure of exact date. I researched the anti-lock brakes and found NHTSA id campaign #05v379000 action # pe05020 but this did not include my home state of kentucky. However, I have been working in ohio since the purchase of said vehicle 10-17-2001 to current date 2-11-2013. On 4-14-2012 I was preparing to take my boat to fuel it . While checking the trailer lights I stepped on the brake pedal and it went straight to the floor. I found that the brake line to the rear wheels had burst in half and was severely corroded. Upon closer inspection I found that all the brake lines showed signs of severe corroision. On 2-8-2013 I discovered that diesel fuel was leaking near the fuel tank and fuel cooler. It was found to be a corroded return fuel line between the cooler and the fuel tank . Again upon closer inspection all fuel lines show moderate to severe corroision.

16 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

While driving I had my brakes fail, the pedal went to the floor. It was a result of a broken steel brake line under the drivers seat. What I found when I looked under the truck was all the lines that went to the abs unit were badly rusted. One of my coworkers had the same problem on his 2001 GMC suburban but he chucked it up to all the camping trips he went on where he left his truck parked off road. My truck however only has 30,000 miles and it has never been taken off road. I also flush the brake fluid once a year as preventative maintenance, so they can't claim they rusted from the inside out. I drive my truck every day to work about one mile away. My driveway is paved and the parking lot at my place of work is also paved. I don't pull any heavy trailers or do anything else that would contribute to the line failure. I am not putting down gm products because all my vehicles are gm vehicles including two antiques. One a 1955 chevy which had original brake lines until I did a disc brake conversion several years back. The other a 1970 chevelle which is currently a restoration project but the line are still original. There is obvious a problem with the material used to make these lines. I was researching the problem online and it appears that there are to many other people with the same problem. Also gm no longer sells the lines which makes it a much more troublesome repair. I also don't own a boat, jet ski or anything else that would require me to put my vehicle in salt water.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 05/05/2005

Bought a 1999 GMC Sierra 3500 4door 8ft. Bed with 30000 miles on it in 2001. First brake line rusted out in 2005. Second line from front to back rusted and broke 2008. Fuel line rusted and leaked gass all over my driveway 2010. Today that same truck? is in a repair shop because the frame by the steeringbox and passenger side front rusted and cracked. Its a shame GMC used such bad materials for their trucks. My truck now has only 97000 miles on it. If it cant be fixed safely the scrap yard is its next stop and a Ford will take its place. To bad GMC you lost another customer.
