36 Power Train problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 07/01/2024

Driving approximately 50 mph when vehicle suddenly made loud bang and locked up rear brakes for 25' coming to a stop in road side ditch, numerous vehicles had to make evasive actions to avoid me and other vehicles. Flat spotted tire abut no visible physical damage. Sat on side of road for transmission temp to cool down then drove to shop without repeat. Called dealer was told the earliest appt was a month away. Have not been able to repeat incident so far. This has happened a few times and is becoming more frequent, mfg has TSB issued but indicates they cant assist because my warranty has expired so I will have to pay 225 per hour diagnostic fee. This is untenable and dangerous. This needs a recall and repair ASAP.

37 Power Train problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 06/16/2024

Transmission had a hard shift which jolted the truck switching gears to a lower one unexpectedly. It caused my body to jerk back. It happened 3 times. 2 were mild but the 3rd time was extreme. Always while accelerating. Average speed was about 50 mph when this occurred. Dealer has confirmed a failure of the transmission valve body. If the transmission were to be put in park while traveling, it could cause major accident and injuries. After the 3rd time the engine warning light came on and the truck went into limp mode.

38 Power Train problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 04/07/2024

I was driving approximately 60mph pulling a trailer when the back tires locked up for approximately 2 seconds. This happened 3 times within 30 minutes. I've taken it to the gm repair shop. They have seen this happen to 3 or 4 vehicles. Due to not being able to replicate the fault it has been difficult to diagnose. They are going to replace the transmission valve body hoping that will take care of the issue. This is extremely dangerous to everyone on the road when this happens. There are many forums out there that I've read and have been close to deadly accidents involving cars, trucks, RV's, and semis as they've ran off the roads. This seems to be something worth looking into and ensuring gm puts out a recall for. In my case, I am going through an extended warrant for my 2020 3500 with 112,000 miles. The warranty company wants the gm technician to replicate the fault. . . Which isn't possible without hooking up a trailer. . . Also very dangerous which I refuse to do until the issue if resolved. In any case, I will have to hook up a trailer once the part is replaced. . . Praying that it won't happen again.

I received a p0747 and p0700 transmission codes on my GMC Sierra 3500. It would not engage above 3rd gear and I almost was rear ended by a semi truck because I was unable to speed up. The vehicle cel turned on and "engine power reduced" notification appeared on my cluster. Engine rpms were at 2800 rpm and my speed limit would not go past ~40mph. I currently have my vehicle being inspected by the local dealership. The vehicle currently has ~19,300 miles.

Driving 45 mph westbound i70 at eisenhower tunnel, vefhicle made loud bang, brakes locked up momentarily slowing vehicle to around 25mph. Multiple vehicles had to make evasive manuevers to avoid collision. Vehicle released after a 15ft skid. Pulled over to safety and inspect for damage, tires were falt spotted but no damage was visible. Called dealer servcei and was told to make appt and set for diagnostic. The throttle body gets stuck wide open after the eninge gets up to operating temperature, it will give some warning with the throttle like on off throttle use and no codes show up at all. The risk of everyones is in extrem danger. The break are to soft and well not stop unless you put both feet on the break pedal down to the floor. Tranismission can not figure out what gear it needs to be in way too many gears and horrible fuel mpg for the 6. 6l duramax l5p. None of the gm dealership will look at the truck unless there is a code or it is happening right there when they look up the trucks VIN.

50 Power Train problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 10/23/2021

While towing our trailer, truck went into reduced power mode, regen message displayed; check engine light came on; loud bag occurred and hissing from under the hood. Truck slowed to 3 mph so we pulled to shoulder and turned the vehicle off. Truck had blown the hose off the the turbo. We reclamped and restarted. Displayed check engine light, reduced power & regen message to keep driving however truck wouldn’t go over a 3mph crawl. Truck lost all power, everything shut down and wouldn’t restart. No dash lights, no error, no crank, no power. We were dead on the highway in the truck lane while towing. This truck goes into reduced power mode every time it tries to regen and we have had it to the dealer multiple times however, the problem continues to get worse. When it does regen, sometimes it takes hours. Dealer says needed a manual regen & that is their solution. Yet problem persists.

51 Power Train problem of the 2021 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 02/14/2021

Problem: unable to shift transmission from d to another position like r, p, n due to snow/slush being on shifter. I travel on idaho state highways and county roads that are plowed. In February, I traveled state highway 14. Road conditions were plowed snow roads, broken snow floor, slush and pavement without slush or snow. I had a passenger with me on this trip from elk city, idaho to grangeville, idaho via sh-14. When I pulled into my storage unit, I could not shift from d to p or n or r. I could only drive forward. The temperature in grangeville was mid 40s. I did not have any tremendous snow build up on the under carriage or wheel wells. I drove to the dealer gortsema motors and their service technician said that I needed to go to a car wash and blow out the snow buildup next to the transmission linkage shifter. When I pulled into the car wash, I still could not shift the transmission. My passenger got out and used the water to push out the snow buildup around the linkage shifter. Then I was able to shift between all gears p, r, n, d. This is a big concern because this should not have happened. This is a major problem in the winter and had there not been a car wash to blow out the snow/slush, I would not be able to turn the truck off or restart the diesel truck in gear. There needs to be a protective shield around the shifter so that snow/slush does not get up into area and cause the shifter to not shift.

52 Power Train problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 3500

The computer lite up the dash and reduced power, plus took the trailer brakes off line. This happened while loaded. To reset the system you have to pull over and turn the vehicle off. This happens 2-3 times per day. This was a problem at 600 miles. The transmission shifted from 10 gear to 5th gear while driving 75 miles per hour. The truck had 75,000 miles on it . Had to send another truck out to pick up the load in santa rosa new mexico. The dealer glenn polk in sanger has been working on for the last 4 months there is never a warning until the lights come on with a system failure.

The vehicle will not shift properly when towing a trailer. While going up a hill, the transmission will not downshift properly. While going downhill, the vehicle downshifts to 2nd gear while going 60 mph. I have contacted gm several times (they have it on file) that there is a problem with the transmission. They understand but said that they cannot do anything about it. This has been happening since it was brand new. Over and over again.

57 Power Train problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 05/16/2013

While pulling my fifth wheel trailer 12500# at highway speed 65 mph pulling a grade the check engine light came on and the reduced engine power message appeared on the dash. This reduced and limited the speed to 50 mph and steps the truck down from there until you can only do 20 mph on the interstate. This issue has happened three times in three months.

58 Power Train problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra 3500

Failure Date: 01/10/2012

I recently had a brake failure on my 2003 GMC Sierra 3500 series truck. I was driving when my brakes gave out. The pedal went to the floor and I was barely able to stop before striking a parked car. I took it to the dealer and was told that my brake lines and calipers are corroded and in need of replacement for a $4200. I had the brakes replaced last February and put less than 1000 miles before this incident. The rear brake pads which were replaced then needed to be replaced because of corrosion issues. I have had to replace the brakes on this truck 4 times since I purchased it each time because of corrosion issues. I have been told by gm that I do not drive the truck enough. I am afraid to drive it for two reasons 1. It might not stop when I need it to and 2. Everytime I drive it ends up costing me more money. The transmission lines were replaced last summer for the same issue. This truck has cost me over $20,000 in repairs since 2005 not including maintenance issues. When I contacted gm customer service they were absolutely no help. I was told I do not drive it enough and the fact that the truck is older it is a part of life. They would not even acknowledge that they have a problem. I was told that the NHTSA is conducting an investigation into this matter with gm. If you need any help please call me I would gladly help in this matter.
