Five problems related to tire have been reported for the 1996 GMC Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Blow out of rear driver side tire ,on a 1996 GMC, Suburban four wheel drive ,with 58,000 miles on it.
Tire tread completely separated with no warning. Did not blow out, just came apart. ( dot number: w211bab445 tire size: 245/75r16 ).
Tire began making flapping noise at highway speeds, pressures checked and ok. Tire appears out of round, and unsafe. Car has only been driven about 50-75 miles. Live in rural area and closest dealer is 84 miles one way, since other dealer closed. Awaiting outcome of NHTSA investigation but will need to replace these tires. Accident is in litigation; two experts have examined the tire and determined that separation caused by a manufacturing defect. Bridgestone/firestone has I. D. The tire as manufactured 7th week of 1996 in decateur factory; the is no issue of under or over inflation.
