Three problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 1997 GMC Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Baffles within fuel tank failed, destroying fuel sending unit.
Vehicle would not start up due to a short in the tank assembly. Dealer replaced fuel pump.
Damaged sending unit in 1997 GMC Suburban. A small plastic part in the bottom of the gas tank broke loose and caused severe damage to sending unit. The attachment of the plastic runner to the base of the tank was not secured on the assembly.
