Brake Electric Antilock problems of the 1999 GMC Suburban - part 1

The contact owns a 1999 GMC Suburban. While driving 1-5 mph, the abs activated without cause or warning when the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the stopping distance increased. On another occasion, while driving 2 mph, the contact's wife depressed the brake pedal and the abs activated without warning and crashed into another vehicle. As of December 17, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock). The failure mileage was 92,500 and current mileage was 93,000. Updated 03/14/08. There was damage to either vehicle, no information was exchanged.

Abs brakes activate at low speeds randomly. We have almost run into vehicles in front of us. Today it happened again, and it is very scary. That is why I am filing this complaint.

While traveling at low speed in a parking lot vehicle failed to stop as brake pedal was low and abs pump came on. Vehicle came to a stop into a pile of construction concrete debris. Vehicle was presented to a GMC dealer on November 3 2005 and dealer refused to perform safety recall or contact GMC to consider vehicle for repair. Dealer claimed vehicle VIN not in range for assistance. Owner regained possession on November 3 2005 and filed complaint.

Dt:the contact complained about an abs problem. Nhtsa recall 05v379000/GMC recall 05068 was issued, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN although the consumer experienced the same problem as mentioned in the recall. The vehicle has been fixed at contact's expense. When the consumer went to slow down, the abs would activate and the vehicle would not stop right away. Updated 11/29/05.

We became aware of a recall on chevy and GMC SUV's in August. We were having trouble with our brakes and just assumed it was time to have them looked at. In the following days, the problem got worse. We were unable to stop when necessary. It was as if I slowed down to stop, the abs brakes would thump and the car would continue to go forward. Our trustworthy mechanic new of the recall and also assumed our car was involved. It was the same exact problem that was reported in the news and on the internet. However, when I contacted GMC, they said our car was not affected. That is absolutely wrong. They told me that in some cases they make exceptions, but we would not qualify. Their reasons were ridiculous and insulting , in addition to the fact that the people I spoke to were very rude. I did not make up the problem. It existed , we fixed it , and they need to reimburse us. It was very costly.

1999 Suburban right front rotor was replaced when rotor body separated from hub. Abs has premature actuation. The consumer stated he was experiencing the same abs problems as stated in the recall, however the vehicle identification number fell outside of parameters of the recall.

I have experienced problems with the abs on my 1999 GMC Suburban. The problems are exactly as described in NHTSA action #pe05020. I have not had an accident, but the problem occurs numerous times daily when I am slowing to a stop. Sometimes the abs will activate when my foot is not touching the brake petal. My mechanic has confirmed (via his computer diagnostics) that the abs will activate without a brake switch detection.

1999 GMC Suburban, driving down highway slowed to turn into rest stop, applied brakes, pedal went to the floor, steering was difficult, almost went into the ditch, then everything ok. Brake pedal pressure has always been soft - getting worse. This also happened at slow speed in parking lot - pumped brakes then ok.

Can't stop the vehicle, and you have to stand on the brake pedal goes to the floor, and you have to pump the brake manually to get it to hold. Had the brake problem since July 2, 2003. Had been in contact with manufacturer, and they said to keep the records for reimburstment, in cause there is a recall. They have replaced the brakes 10-12 times. The antilock is not kicking in.

Have had ongoing problems with the braking system of this vehicle, can provide copies of all failures.

Have owned '90gmc c1500 p/u & '99 GMC c1500 Suburban in past 12 years; both vehicles have had same problems w/ front brake pull/wear; suspension; brake pipes; engine/trans. Hesitation, hang. . . . ; corroded + battery cables, batteries; leaking hvac ducts; and on & on. How in the world does 12+/- years of documented brake problems across vehicle lines/models not warrant a massive recall and/or compensation to owners for obviously faulty engineering, materials, etc. . . . . ????!!!! I suppose the Ford/firestone problems took precedence? can you say "class action"??.

Ongoing problem, when brakes are applied on an incline, it there is a loud twanging noise, and extended stopping distance. Vehicle been to dealer on two occasions, but problem stilloccurring. Feel free to provide any further information.

At any speed when applying brakes vehicle grinds and pulls to left. Consumer has a ant-ilock braking system. Dealership is aware of problem.

While traveling at approximately 10 mph in traffic power assisted steering pump failed, forcing the consumer to pull off to side of road. Consumer stated that braking system also ran through this steering pump, and should be under separate systems. Dealership has examined vehicle, and was repairing this problem. When braking at any speed pedal went almost to floor resulting in extended braking distance. On 2 may 2002, consumer applied brake and due to extended braking distance, rearended another vehicle. Damage to vehicle was $ 5000. 00, vehicle has not been inspected by dealer.

Reported to local dealer, they cannot fix unless we bring in when wet. Vehicle still under warranty. Abs locks up when wet and backing up. (dot number: n/a tiresize: n/a).

Severe brake pull that has not been corrected, resulting in dangerous situation. Brake assembly has been replace 3 times. Both dealer and manufacturer now refuse to take further efforts to correct this problem.

Had panic stop- brake pedal went to floor would not skid tires and did not activate abs.

Vehicle pulls to one direction upon braking. . . Dealer has been unable to assertain the problem. They have called a service representative from GMC from the northeast region office and he is unable to located the problem. . This has been going on since July'00. The vehicle is now at the dealer( 7th time) and GMC is working in conjuction with their engineers to make repairs. They keep on blaming firestone (tires) for all the trouble. Intermittently when the brakes are applied under normal conditions vehicle pulls either to the left or right. Dealer has attempted to correct the problem. Manufacturer has been notified, and agreed to trade vehicle back under the lemon law.

Abs brakes are locking up in wet conditions, and front brakes have completely worn out within 10,000 miles. Owner has taken in vehicle 5 times to 2 different dealers, but problem still exists.

My Suburban is experiencing loss of brakes. This is an intermittent problem that has happened 2 times. There is complete loss of all brake power/pressure when this happens. It has bee reported through internet bulletin boards this has happened on more than one vehicle. The GMC corp. Will not replace any parts to fix the problem since it will not fail when brought to the dealer.
