1 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2021

My vehicle had been having to common oil consumption meaning I checked the oil every time I got fuel. This last time I went to check the oil level the dipstick was under so much pressure it shot twenty feet into the air when the hood opened. I then drove the vehicle from the gas station back home and this time took the oil fill cap off and when I turned the cap a quarter turn it blew off into the air followed by burning hot oil droplets and steam. When I run the vehicle for any amount of time the oil drain back system builds more pressure then the cooling system eventually causing the vehicle to stall under load such as when taking off from a stop. When the vehicle does stall it will take from 2-10 minuets to restart.

2 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2020

I purchased the vehicle in March 2018. From the date of purchase, the service engine and/or change oil lights would turn on. Every time I took the vehicle to my mechanic, it needed oil. In January 2020, I got a notice from GMC about the settlement of a lawsuit regarding vehicle oil consumption. I took the vehicle to my local GMC and the manager read the "notice of approval of class action settlement and claim form" that was sent to me. The lawsuit requires GMC to pay for repairs or reimburse customers for the repairs. My vehicle had not had the necessary repairs done to it, so the manager instructed me to approve the necessary repairs and pay for them out of pocket because GMC would reimburse me. The repairs were completed on February 7, 2020. I followed all the guidelines provided to me by GMC in order to get the reimbursement. I mailed documents to them a week after the repairs were completed, months before the deadline of may 16, 2020. After waiting over a month and not getting reimbursed, I called GMC customer services (1-866-790-5600) on April 11, 2020. I was informed by GMC customer service to expect a reimbursement check for repairs and rental car fees within two weeks. After not receiving the reimbursement, I called again in June and July 2020 and given the same information-wait. This continued throughout the summer. The delay was blamed on covid-19. I called again in late September 2020, and they instructed me to email all the documents and that the check would arrive in two weeks. On September 30, 2020, I emailed all the documents to GMC. After waiting another two weeks, I called them and they again said it would come in two weeks. On November 10, 2020, I sent another email asking for the reimbursement check. A week later, I got a letter stating I did not qualify for reimbursement because the time had passed/expired.

Multiple times my GMC stalls while in movement. Does it when I am making turns driving slow speeds or backing up. Multiple times it has resulted in my vehicle almost being hit. Big problem I am having as well is that oil seems to burn fast. I get my oil changes regularly but have to go back into shop between oil changes for them to put more oil in as its burning out so quickly. I am not leaking oil at all!! these two things have been a constant problem being a mom I am scared to have m uh kids in the car that it may malfunction while they are in it and result in an accident. Recalls should be in place to fix these problems as they are serious problems.

8 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2019

Proven oil consumption problem on my car as well as many others leading to a class act which has failed just about everyone. Car is completely unsafe and these cars require a new engine among other fixes in order to avoid the engine blowing. My engine blew on the highway with no warning despite regular oil changes and maintenance. The oil consumption problem has been documented by gm and they are still negligent to the issue. The car was in motion on the highway going around 70 mph when the engine blew. There is supposed to be an oil light signifying low oil which did not go off as well as doing 3 oil consumption tests mandated by gm in order for them to do any repairs. All were failed tests and gm still pushed for more tests that required me to keep driving it. Despite the failed tests they still fought it and the engine blew over this time.

9 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2019

excessive oil consumption GMC will not honor their recall. I received a letter in August of 2015 saying to bring my vehicle in if my car was effected as long as it was in the 7 years 6 months and less than 120k miles. In August 2016 I started to smell oil burning in my car and black oil leaking out of the engine. After my research this was the beginning stages of this recall. I called, GMC james rivard and mentioned this recall asking them to fix it. There was only at 98k miles and it had been less than 7 years. They later said they had to replace a cap that wore out, but charged me 129. I realized they had took advantage of me by charging me simply for cleaning up the oil and putting more in. Nothing on the reciept mentions a replacement cap. Through the years my husband and I started to noticed more issues, stabiltrak warnings, low acceleration, oil changes not lasting more then 2. 5 to 3 months. We called in August 2018 and was told I could bring it in, but would have to pay the 125 if they decided it was not the recall. This was the issue previously! since we've paid off the car in September 2018, we have experienced the car stopping in while in drive when pressing the break, low engine power warnings, along with the stabiltrak warnings, and frequently wants to stop when making hard left or right turns on streets. We took to a local mechanic last week and was informed the cars oil was completely (gone for the 3rd time, the oil life in my car was at 27%). With several others, they informed this could be due to piston rings being worn out. I immediately recalled the incident in 2016 and called the GMC recall center. They refused to make the dealer honor this recall, since it expired in September 2018. . . Coincidentally when I paid off my car. I wish they would have taken care of this issue when I asked! I have totally lost trust in the GMC brand.

10 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

"excessive oil consumption" after having the oil consumption tests performed on my truck it was discovered that my vehicle needed the rings and pistons replaced, therefore, on January 18th, 2016 my truck went into rogers Chevrolet (now known as michael bates) to have this done, under the special warranty known as excessive oil consumption. I received my truck back on January 25th, 2016 after being told it was fixed. Once my free oil changes were up in March of 2016, I either took my truck for oil changes or my uncle, grandfather or myself conducted the oil changes (you will see the receipts on this). After some time I started to use oil again, more than normal. When I inquired with rogers Chevrolet I was told that my truck should be fine because they already replaced the pistons and rings and that my engine is just going to burn oil because the way gm built the motor and to keep extra oil on hand. Well on 01/30/2019 I was on the highway doing around 75mph when my engine failed. I almost was in an accident on the 3 lane highway! I was advised to have it towed to a nearby dealer in which I did. I was informed that the pistons blew through the bottom of the motor, and then I was advised to provide receipts in which I did, and now I am being told the special warranty is expired in which it is not I am only at 109,000 miles and it was last serviced for this special warranty in 2016, therefore, it should be covered until the 120,000 miles like indicated on the warranty bulletin. This issue is very dangerous and fatalities are going to happen if this doesn't get addressed and fixed properly. The maintenance on my truck is excellent, I took very good care of it, and I have the receipts to prove it, however, I did some research after this happened to me and I was informed that there must be a problem with the block/heads in the motor for it to do this and gm has to know this!.

11 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2019

We purchased a 2011 GMC Terrain may 29th 2018 used with 70000 miles from the hazleton Nissan from the hazleton auto mall here in PA. It now has 78000. Had two oil changes done already. There is definitely a excessive oil consumption problem with this vehicle as I just got a oil change hut the 50 percent oil life and having issues again. We have contacted hazleton Nissan found out they were closing after signing a " set for life" contract which had a powertrain warranty. Now I cannot use my warranty. Anyway I was driving home tonight from work on interstate 81 when the car without warning just cut off and lost all power. He got it to the side of the highway and had to put it in neutral and restart it. After it started he brought it to a gas station where it had stalled again. Got it almost home and stalled again. God forbid my children were in this car when this car decided to cut off and he had no brakes no steering nothing. Nissan in hazleton was aware of this and I can't even use my warranty that they signed and I signed. I was promised something that I cannot use. GMC had a call from us around 73000 miles and I told them it was clicking and stalling. They wouldn't touch it bc Nissan is the one who sold it to me and the contract was with them, but they are no longer open so what do I do now? I cannot afford a huge fix hence why I got this car bc the warranty and I wouldn't have to pay for anything if it fell under the powertrain which it is. If I needed a new motor I would get one for free see what I am saying? someone could seriously get hurt or even die and this is our only vehicle can someone please help me? kept up with all oil changes also. This is very dangerous and should be fixed. I fear for my wife and children as they always are using this car.

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that there was a failure with an internal oil consumption concerning the engine which had been affecting other components due to the failure. The independent facility who sold the vehicle was to have an independent mechanic provide an oil consumption test however they indicated that the manufacturer had a special coverage campaign to provide a remedy, a dealer mandal Buick GMC (mandal parkway, d'iberville, ms 39540, 1-(228) 392-1515) was contacted and indicated that the vehicle was out of warranty by two months.
