I bought this vehicle and NHTSA made gm release an extended warranty on this vehicle for excessive loss of engine oil. In 2019 I had to take this vehicle and pay several thousand dollars for the pistons to be replaced in my engine because I was 1 year past the extended warranty. Now 3 years after spending thousands of dollars through a certified gm store I am having the same problem excessive loss of engine oil. I have zero leaks and I have to put oil in my engine every other day. If I do not by the end of the week I will have an empty engine.
Ok so my 2011 GMC Terrain just went over 150,000 miles I bought this vehicle used from a dealership not knowing that there was a big lawsuit or that GMC continuted making this make and model knowing that it had a oil usage problem. So mmm mmm with that being said let's start with my vehicle uses oil, my vehicle idles high low and always rough at times, my service stabilitrak flashes, my motor sounds like a hemi kock knock knock instead of a 2. 4, doesn't matter where I'm at or where I'm going I let off of the gas and my car dies. . . . Let me clarify on that last one me and my 9 year old daughter we're headed home today let off the gas to go around a curve and a hill and you guesswd it my 2011 GMC Terrain died I lost all control and all power had no power steering and no brakes. . . I just thank jesus I wasn't speeding and that there was no oncoming traffic cuz I don't think me nor my 9 year old would have made it out ok. So thanks to whatever faulty motor engine or power train GMC has with this make and model putting people's safety and lives in danger due to these issues and only choosing certain vins eligible instead of all vins from 2011 GMC Terrains in my opinion is just choosing which owners survive because this make and model is dangerous to whoever drives it and to whoever meets it on the highway.
Was driving the car and all of a sudden a bunch of lights came on the dash called the dealership where I got it from to get fix and they said sorry they can’t help and then have blocked my number from communication. I can’t drive my car so I don’t know what to do at this point.
Was driving home from work had a half tank of gas no lights or anything came on, car just shut off was not able to start it from that point. I spoke with car lot to whom I'm making payments with and not able to get anything done with the vehicle. Now I've lost my job and I'm about to be homeless due to this mechanic problem on this vehicle.
2011 GMC Terrain slt the engine blew do to timing chain breaking and it tore up the injectors as I was looking it up there where lots of people with the same problem and when it blew I was on the highway and almost wrecked. We put new engine. After putting the engine in the transmission seems like every gear you put it in is like neutral and reeding up on other complaints people are having the same problems it only has 80,000 miles no lights came on or warnings.
Vehicle has been burning up to 3 quarts of oil every 1,500 miles. This has been an ongoing issue for years. In 2020 a gm dealer serviced/repaired the vehicle to correct the issue; the vehicle only had approximately 60,000 miles at the time. The issue returned around 20,000 miles after the repair. Neither an instrument panel light nor a obdii code appears when the oil is low. When the oil is low the vehicle stalls when making a turn and also jitters and jerks while idling. I am put in a dangerous situation when the vehicle stalls (especially on the freeway service roads).
Burns to much oil and I can't keep up with the speed limit it's in and the shop got to put a new timing belt on.
Only 87000 miles and the transmission went out, car started to surge while driving, after parking it wouldn't go into reverse. Then when trying to see if it would still drive forward, wouldn't go faster than 20 miles an hour, just started revving wouldn't engage in a gear.
Yet again, another costly engine repair. Car would not accelerate properly, engine seemed to be back firing. Then check engine light came on (code p0016). GMC dealer said the timing chains needs to be replaced. $2300. Yet, they will create a recall for a seat. But not an unsafe engine. Hope lives won't be lost, like with the ignition fiscal. Smh.
Engine randomly stalls while driving and refuses to start back up. No codes are being presented when it does stall.
Odb code p0014/p0017 is a GMC recall and I would very much like to bring it and let you guys fix it because it is becoming a problem!.
The vehicle going through oil like made and stalling in the middle of intersections or pulling onto a road. This has caused other people to almost hit me or go off the road to avoid an accident. I will start out into an intersection get in the middle and it dies. Turning onto a different road this happens also in motion going at normal speeds for the road.
I purchased the vehicle it ran great. Within a couple of weeks, it started stalling when I go to take off in the middle of intersections or pulling out onto a road. It will run fine I stop it idles ok and when I touch the gas pedal it will start out into the road and then just die. It goes though oil like mad.
I purchased the vehicle in March 2018. From the date of purchase, the service engine and/or change oil lights would turn on. Every time I took the vehicle to my mechanic, it needed oil. In January 2020, I got a notice from GMC about the settlement of a lawsuit regarding vehicle oil consumption. I took the vehicle to my local GMC and the manager read the "notice of approval of class action settlement and claim form" that was sent to me. The lawsuit requires GMC to pay for repairs or reimburse customers for the repairs. My vehicle had not had the necessary repairs done to it, so the manager instructed me to approve the necessary repairs and pay for them out of pocket because GMC would reimburse me. The repairs were completed on February 7, 2020. I followed all the guidelines provided to me by GMC in order to get the reimbursement. I mailed documents to them a week after the repairs were completed, months before the deadline of may 16, 2020. After waiting over a month and not getting reimbursed, I called GMC customer services (1-866-790-5600) on April 11, 2020. I was informed by GMC customer service to expect a reimbursement check for repairs and rental car fees within two weeks. After not receiving the reimbursement, I called again in June and July 2020 and given the same information-wait. This continued throughout the summer. The delay was blamed on covid-19. I called again in late September 2020, and they instructed me to email all the documents and that the check would arrive in two weeks. On September 30, 2020, I emailed all the documents to GMC. After waiting another two weeks, I called them and they again said it would come in two weeks. On November 10, 2020, I sent another email asking for the reimbursement check. A week later, I got a letter stating I did not qualify for reimbursement because the time had passed/expired.
The 2. 4l ecotec motor has had so many complaints not only for GMC Terrain but also the chevy equinox. The motor just stops and lose everything while driving! I was in traffic and it stop almost causing an accountant god I wasn't hurt! now I have this car with a blown motor because it's a no tolerance motor. We spend so much money on these vehicles and spend so much to keep them safe for driving on the road and yet when it comes to the company cutting corners to save money they don't get faulted for putting faulty equipment in these vehicles. I have a 2011 Terrain and I bought it in 2019 for 9000 and drove it a month before the motor blew it has less then 100000 miles on it and for me to get a new motor it's another 5000. I just don't understand why if the equipment is faulty and so many complaints have been posted about the same issue why it's not being recalled or why we can't get the company to give us new motors or a new car! we are expected to pay insurance registration inspections test every year and pay for the normal wear on the vehicles to make sure they are safe but they can't recall faulty parts! I foster children and can't afford to make expensive purchases that weren't caused by neglect on my part.
Since I bought my truck I have been having multiple problems with the engine and transmission I've tried multiple times to contact the dealership to get my car looked at and they do not respond back to me I feel like they act as if I did no business with them on purchasing my car.
Transmission not functional, will not engage into any gear, and went out while driving. I've seen multiple complaints online with sane problem. Recall needs to be done.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 GMC Terrain. While driving, the transmission was shifting into a lower gear and the vehicle could not exceed 2 mph. The vehicle was pulled over and towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine seized. The contact researched and learned that the failure was due to the engines of the 2011 gm models. Denooyer Chevrolet (127 wolf rd, albany, NY 12205, (518) 458-7700) stated that there was no recall for the failure and admitted that there was no way the contact could have known the engine would seize. The manufacturer agreed with the dealer and informed the contact that they had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer and pay for labor costs. The manufacturer stated that they may consider paying 10% of the total repair cost. The vehicle was currently at the independent mechanic and had not been repaired. The manufacturer called back and stated that they might help pay off the vehicle loan as long as the contact purchased another gm vehicle. The failure mileage was 81,000.
My car has cut off on me approximately 12 times in the last week. Almost cause a wreck one time because it happened while I was pulling out onto the highway. Luckily I was able to coast out of traffic in time. Usually happens when when I'm at a low speed or sitting idle.
Hesitation and lag on acceleration after hard or quick brake application. Feels like engine momentarily stalling or trans mission not engaging for one or two seconds. . Happens when vehicle is in motion, happens in stop and go traffic, happens coming out of turns, also in straight line motion. Poses a safety risk such as when entering an intersection and not being able to accelerate through the intersection to avoid collision with other vehicles crossing that intersection.
Almost a month after my oil change my engine started making noise and cutting off. When I took it to get checked, they said that my oil was gone and my engine is failing. Now my car is just sitting at the dealership, because the price is gonna be to high. Is their a recall for my 2011 g. M. C Terrain.
Rear main seal blew. I was told that my rear main seal had blown b/c moisture can get in and freeze and since it was so cold the pressure caused the seal to blow. I started the car ahead of time b/c it was in the single digits. When I went outside to leave I noticed some smoke coming from the engine area. I immediately drove to the dealership. As I was driving I noticed some hesitation upon acceleration. Thankfully I did not have to drive the highway to get to the dealership. As soon as I got it to the service department they told me that there was oil leaking under my car to the point that they had to add 3. 5 quarts of oil before they could move it to a service bay. After a short examination of the car I was told that the rear main seal had blown. I also found out that 10 other cars had the same issue at the same dealership that same day and 4 the next day. I checked for recalls and found gm service bulletin 14882 but was told that b/c my car VIN number was not the on their list and was manufactured at a different plant that mine would not fall under the recall. It should not matter where the car was manufactured it is obviously a defective part or design. If it a defective part or design it should be fixed on all cars and not just some as I was informed the same parts were used at the different plants. I was fortunate that this did not cause a major accident when the car hesitated to accelerate.
We purchased a 2011 GMC Terrain may 29th 2018 used with 70000 miles from the hazleton Nissan from the hazleton auto mall here in PA. It now has 78000. Had two oil changes done already. There is definitely a excessive oil consumption problem with this vehicle as I just got a oil change hut the 50 percent oil life and having issues again. We have contacted hazleton Nissan found out they were closing after signing a " set for life" contract which had a powertrain warranty. Now I cannot use my warranty. Anyway I was driving home tonight from work on interstate 81 when the car without warning just cut off and lost all power. He got it to the side of the highway and had to put it in neutral and restart it. After it started he brought it to a gas station where it had stalled again. Got it almost home and stalled again. God forbid my children were in this car when this car decided to cut off and he had no brakes no steering nothing. Nissan in hazleton was aware of this and I can't even use my warranty that they signed and I signed. I was promised something that I cannot use. GMC had a call from us around 73000 miles and I told them it was clicking and stalling. They wouldn't touch it bc Nissan is the one who sold it to me and the contract was with them, but they are no longer open so what do I do now? I cannot afford a huge fix hence why I got this car bc the warranty and I wouldn't have to pay for anything if it fell under the powertrain which it is. If I needed a new motor I would get one for free see what I am saying? someone could seriously get hurt or even die and this is our only vehicle can someone please help me? kept up with all oil changes also. This is very dangerous and should be fixed. I fear for my wife and children as they always are using this car.
The car was taken into steven lust automotive and we were told that a transfer seal needed to be replaced and that GMC was aware of the issue but would only warranty the issue if the car was produced in a certain factory. Same year same model all having same issue but produced in a different plant. Now the stabililtrac warning comes on and from research on the web this is a common issue that they are aware of also but refuse to fix. This car only has 66000 miles on it. We also contacted GMC and they told us that they are aware of the problem but will not warranty it unless is was produced at a certain factory. When the stabilitrac warning was noted I was driving down the highway and the engine just shut down. I do believe this issue is due to the excessive oil leak coming from the seal. This is the second time that I have placed this complaint. When I called to confirm that I placed the complaint no one could find it.
The GMC jerks forward and it almost hit person in front. Then when it shift from 2nd to 1st it jerks down into a stall. Someone could rear end me. Because of the suddenness of the stop.
Vehicle was financial 18 months ago, on Thursday, July 26 approximately 11p. M. I heard racing of the motor and when I approached the traffic light at a main highway, the car stopped moving just racing of the motor when pressing the gas petal in gear then l moved the gear in rear with no movement then moved the gear back to drive with no movement. The car diagnosis codes are po700 and po796 I am very disappointed after only having the Terrain 1. 5 years with an ongoing payment. This was my dream car.
Engine problem.
Abs light is on even after fixing the supposed problem. System stabilitrak constantly on. Excessive use of oil. 2 to 3 quartz every 2 weeks. Reduced engine power comes up on dash and no matter how fast I am going (15 mph or 80 mph on a highway) it doesnt matter my car will slow down or just shut off. Also happens when I have to hit braked hard, slow down or accelerate from a stopped position. I am also using a lot of gas.
Stalls when slowing down or letting off acceleration. . . Loses all power steering, abs braking. Difficult and dangerous as it happens at any speed. Highway, city street, turning, etc.
After a 2 hour highway drive I noticed the vehicle began running loud, a rattling noise coming from the engine as I was getting off the highway. After parking and shutting the vehicle down and letting it rest, I went to restart it. Again it was still loud but quickly shut itself off and would not start back up. Upon inspection, the timing chain went out causing, to quote the service manager, "catastrophic engine damage" that was well beyond able to be repaired.
I was having problems with my brakes making noise so I took the car in for service, I was told the brakes was fine; however the noise continued and a month late I took it back and was told I needed pads, rotors and that the left cv axle was rusted and needed to be replaced. 2 days later I was told my car was ready and that the cv axle was replaced. I left and within 30 minutes as I was about to get on the highway, I heard a pop and lose all control of the Terrain, my the only way I could stop the vehicle was by placing the emergency brakes, the car was making a loud noise. I put it in parked and it continue to roll until I turned it off. Even the tow truck driver stated that the car was rolling in the park position. I'm thankful that I and my kids were not killed because I literally had no control of the car. Now that the car has been towed back to the dealership, I was told the new cv axle was malfunctioned. Honestly, I'm still paying for this vehicle and do not feel safe driving it.
I was driving on the highway and the car cut off as soon as I slowed down getting off the exit. I started the car back up and it said that the stabilitrack was off and that I was losing engine power. I got to safety, checked my fluids and I had no oil in the car. But I changed the oil recently and had 3,000 more miles till my next oil change. I towed the car to my mechanic and described what happened. He told me that their was an internal engine failure that caused the timing belt to break. I called my insurance and they had a field adjuster look at the vehicle and he nor the mechanic could figure out why or how this happened on such a well maintained vehicle. They both stated that there is no way that I should have had 2 major system failures (I just replaced the transmission) with the current vehicle mileage. I called GMC and they will not so anything to help me. Their only solution is for me to tow it to a GMC dealership and they will look at it. I could've died in this car, I still owe on this car and they won't help me.
