I have had a recurring issue with my accelerator assembly on my 2016 GMC Terrain denali. The gm part number is 84022579. The initial pedal assembly broke at 26,722 miles, when the car was only 18 months old. The part was replaced, under warranty, at a certified gm dealer. The issue happened again another 18 months later. Unfortunately gm only certifies the part for 12 months and 12,000 miles, so I had to pay for the second pedal assembly out of pocket. The second repair was also done at a certified GMC dealership. This recurring history of issues is a clear indication that gm is using a faulty part in this vehicle, which creates a significant safety issue for drivers. When the pedal assembly breaks down, it automatically puts the car into low engine power mode. If you are driving on a freeway, your speed will suddenly drop from 70 mph to 25 mph in a matter of seconds. Further, there is essentially no ability to accelerate when the car is in low power mode. The other significant safety issue is that eventually the car will go back to normal after a few more days/uses. The engine light will go off and give you the impression that the issue no longer exists, or was a false alarm. Then it will happen again without warning. I have had this issue happen to me on 7 different occassions, in a variety of driving conditions (highway, city, freeway, etc). I've spent the past 5 weeks working with GMC customer service trying to get a resolution. They have indicated that they do not think this is a faulty part, and have not provided any assistance. They are ignoring the facts and history of my cases, including multiple GMC certified diagnoses confirming that the same part continues to break. I would encourage NHTSA to investigate this matter and hold gm accountable for this. It creates significant safety risks for drivers, and imposes significant costs on drivers.

1. Engine burning oil, had to be replaced at 100,000 miles. In repair shop again, oil coming out of exhaust?? 2. Car would stall out while driving, try to accelerate at a red light, almost crashed a few times. Back window has been covered in oil from exhaust. Couldn't see. 3. Only used white plains Buick/GMC for repairs. Car is there now. 4. Nys dmv is currently investigating 5. Check engine light just recently came on.

When driving the car at low speeds, or right after having been stopped for a few moments. Upon, acceleration, the car will sometimes go into a limp mode. On the dic, will be displayed a warning about how the car will have the speed reduced after 175 miles and to check the emissions system. The speed has already been reduced at that point. Also displayed maybe a warning about how the power has been reduced. Usually, if I turn off the car and wait about a minute, I can restart the car and drive at a normal highway speed again. But not always. The warning on the dic, will usually turn off if the car does return to normal speeds after about 5 - 10 miles. However, the check engine light may still stay on for several days. This problem can be a daily occurrence. I've had the car in the shop several times, and they have been unable to fix the problem. The car can be unpredictably unsafe, when speed is instantly reduced to 30 mph!.

2010 GMC Terrain with v6 loss of power, engine codes timing issue, camshaft sensor fault, crankshaft sensor fault. Stabil-track fault. Rough idle, oil consumption. The list goes on. This is a common thing with these engines and gm has done nothing. This has been going on with this vehicle for awhile. Stay away from gm vehicles they do not stand behind there products, I will be buying a Ford and I will tell everyone I know!.

Every week it's something different. In motion. . . No cruze control. No audio. Don't drive over 50mph brake problem. Parking brake engages randomly and without user engagement. No awd. No stability traction. This happens so frequently the dash indicators have been reduced to idiot lights. At what point do I become concerned? things appear to resolve when the engine is turned off and back on, sometimes. . . . I compare it to other glitchy technology. However I potentially could be at an 80mph crazing speed when I decide to ignore the idiot lights. . . What happens when a real problem presents and I ignore the dash indicators do to frequent glitches? I'm so disappointed. My 2 previous Terrains were 10 times the vehicle the 2020 model year.

My Terrain is stalling really bad some days and sometimes no problems at all. It does it more when going into reverse, I have to keep giving gas to get backed up. It has also died on me when I slow to a stop like at a light. This is really frustrating!!.

On August 23, 2019, my vehicle incurred an engine and transmission failure reported by GMC onstar application. The symptoms of failure are repeated acceleration speed control causing speed limit violations, interference with other moving traffic, spousal trauma, and illumination of multiple display window lights in the dashboard behind steering wheel. On October 14, 2019, there was a reoccurrence of the same issue. In fact, this report is to get ahead of the problem before taking vehicle for service this morning, October 15, 2019, at sewell Buick GMC. I have service documentation and onstar email messages of failure for evidence of this report.

I have had my 2013 GMC Terrain for 3 years and it has problems with the oil consumption, starting, traction light comes on by itself and truck cuts off without warning. This started several weeks ago. Oil, it consumes large amounts of oil between the oil changes. I check the digital oil displays, that show how much oil remains, and it can go from 80% remains to 70% remains in a matter of days. Icutting off, this happens at random times. When I drive, it looses power and cuts off in the middle of the street. No warning at all. This is very scary especially with my children in the car. It will loose power and not accelerate and I have had drift to the shoulder of the road. I am scared it will do this on the highway when driving at high speeds. Starting, my SUV can start with no problem and I can drive to the store 5 minutes away and it will not start when I return. I try starting it 5 times and it will finally start. This has happened several times. It will start in the morning when I go to work or take kids to sports practice or their games and when I leave work will not start after 8 hours. After a 1-2 hour game, same thing occurs, it will not start. I have taken it for diagnosis, received code and had it repaired. After a few days, same thing happens. My mechanic can not figure out why this is happening. My traction light has also come on by itself, for no reason. There is no recall for these problems but it should be before innocent people, and families are injured or killed.
Radio plays random radio stations and will not allow radio to be turned off when vehicle is turned off ( no power to the vehicle, doors are opened and the fob is over 500 ft away). Radio screen flashes to a blank screen. Does not read contact information for cellphone connected to vehicle. Will not allow phone calls to be made and will continue to play music through radio and car speakers while phone is engaged in a telephone call ( once call is able to be placed). Android auto feature stopped working. Vehicle will slip out of gear and randomly put self into an overdrive. Vehicle will not accelerate despite gas petal being almost to the floor and then will jump rapidly and accelerate quickly. Vehicle smells like rubber is burning under the hood at various times.
Was leaving a parking spot. Vehicle reversed fine, put it in drive and it began to jerk and did not accelerate properly. Made it to the next aisle to park it and get out of way. Once parked, shut off vehicle. Started it. Reversed it and it would only rev up, did not reverse. Put it in drive and it jerked forward, hard and kept jerking as I pulled forward. Parked it again and turned it off. Called dealership, who called a tow service to tow it to them. Attempted to show tow guy the issue at his request, upon his arrival, put it in reverse and it revved up briefly then jerked into reverse. Had to move vehicle to clear area to get it on the tow truck so I put it in drive and it began to jerk constantly and barely accelerating as I drove and felt and sounded like it was going to shut off (but didn't) before I made it to where I could park again. Luckily I was in a parking lot and not on the road. I've had this vehicle exactly a month. Very scary.
I have been having an issue with the stability track/reduced engine power coming on. I will be driving and then the reduced engine power with an exclamation mark pops up, my car speed drops and then the car cuts off. The car would crank back up after sitting for a while. After researching this, I found that several other GMC, chevy and cadillacs had this same issue and were given the run around by GMC when trying to have it fixed. There was a recall for those vehicles but not the Terrain. I have had the throttle body cleaned like suggested and that did not solve the problem. The problem occurs no matter if I am on the highway or regular streets. Being a single parent of 3 and legal guardian of 1 grandchild, I don't have money to keep trying to repair this issue. I had my transmission looked at and that was not the issue. How can I get them to correct the stability track/reduced engine power issue? I have been without my car for a week now. This is making it hard to get back and forth to work. I am actually calling the GMC headquarters to report this issue and then the better business bureau.

My GMC Terrain 2011 is having trouble accelerating, and I hear a noise from the engine. When I am at a stop light and I try to accelerate, it pulls and doesn't go forward. It's stalking my Terrain. I did some research, and I found that this vehicle has a recall #12313d- special coverage adjustment- engine balance chain and fuel pump. I looked up, and it seems this vehicle has 0 unclaimed recalls. So, I'm concern because this vehicle is stalling and not working as it should be. The recall does say, if left untreated, could cause the chain to break, leading to engine damaged.
I purchased a 2019 GMC Terrain VIN: 3gkalmev8kl186579 on Jan 17, 2019 at rizza Buick GMC 8415 w. 159th street, tinley park IL, 60487, on January 17, 2019. This was my first brand new car and I was excited. I traded in a 2014 GMC Terrain in the process, knowing I would be upside down on the loan. I had the first service done on April 23, 2019 at said dealership. At that visit I explained that I was hearing a noise on the passenger side vent even when the hvac was not running. I was told nothing was detected and my vehicle was fine on may 24, 2019, I drove my vehicle to memphis tennessee with my family for memorial day. On may 25, 2019 the check engine light came on, I was losing power to the engine. That same night customer service towed my vehicle to sunrise Chevrolet Buick GMC, 1800 covington pike memphis, tennessee 38128, a nearby GMC dealership and set up a rental car in the area for me to drive. Because it was the holiday, enterprise was closed, and I had no vehicle to drive for two days. This was an inconvenience to me and my family, I had to alter my trip plans that were made back in February 2019. On may 27, 2019 I was told by caleb burrow the technician at sunrise Chevrolet that air box tube was loose and not properly installed and could have been done during my service I had done April 23rd. I was assured everything was okay and I was good to go. On may 31, while traveling back home the check engine light came on again. Same message on the dash and it was raining at 3am. I was close to home and was able to make it to the dealership that I purchased it from. My vehicle has been in service since may 31, 2019 and I am just finding out that I have a part that is on national back order. I am not satisfied with my experience an I am reaching out to you to resolve this matter.
Hesitation and lag on acceleration after hard or quick brake application. Feels like engine momentarily stalling or trans mission not engaging for one or two seconds. . Happens when vehicle is in motion, happens in stop and go traffic, happens coming out of turns, also in straight line motion. Poses a safety risk such as when entering an intersection and not being able to accelerate through the intersection to avoid collision with other vehicles crossing that intersection.
The contact owns a 2010 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that various warning indicators and gauges flashed. Cadillac vera pembrooke pines (954-517-7827, 300 south university drive, pembroke pines, FL 33025) was notified of the failure, but was not authorized to schedule an appointment. In addition, while attempting to accelerate from a stop sign, the vehicle failed to gain speed when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was not available.
Tl the contact owns a 2019 GMC Terrain. While driving approximately 40-70 mph, the vehicle lost power and independently decelerated. The vehicle was taken to shamaley Buick GMC (located at 955 crockett st, el paso, TX 79922, (915) 231-4000) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be repaired and the power train control module needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the failure on four separate occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 95389790118. The approximate failure mileage was 17,000. The VIN was invalid.
The car keeps stalling when trying to accelerate in reverse or drive and the check engine light is on. This is problem as I am reading up on this so I believe there is some kind of recall that needs to happen. This is bullshit.

My vehicle is stalling and stuttering while trying to accelerate. It also does the same when decelerating. The truck will jerk and stutter. Also making noise like a vacuum cleaner while this is going on. I just purchased this vehicle in September 2018 and it has been going on since November 2018.
The shifter is dangerous. It allows you to inadvertently shift into neutral while driving. In a car with a normal shifter, the shifter needs to be pushed with significant force to move it into neutral and the resulting thunk will let you know it happened. In this car, since it is an electronic button that can be easily pressed, especially because it is in a location where it might get hit by an object like a purse. The driver may wind up without power and then not have an easy way to reingage drive. Also, there is no physical differentiation between drive and reverse, which can cause confusion in low speed driving interactions if a driver does not look at the buttons. Vehicles should have a software update to indicate when the vehicle goes into neutral above a certain speed as well as having the physical buttons replaced with something that offers a tactile difference between reverse and drive.
While driving my car the stabili-track service light comes on. Then the check engine, brake, abs, awd, as well as the power steering lights come on. Then I lose power steering and my speed is throttled down a lot. Its happened on the expressway and city streets. When on the expressway I have to immediately get to the shoulder without getting into an accident. I've had my car towed to the mechanics shop multiple times and they've told me that there are no codes when hooking up the computer. They kept it a few times in the last 3 years and have told me there were misfires after letting the car sit and testing it out (test driving) and work was needed (throttle body replacement, spark plug replacement, cam shaft swap out and a full tune-up). $1000 and less than a year later it happens again and then again. This is the 3rd year (2016, 2017, 2018) it has happened to me in a row and all the mechanic can say is that it may be something gm should investigate. I've called gm with no luck. This is extremely unsafe and I am thankful that my kids were not in the car when it happens. Trying to navigate traffic on the expressway when your car throttles down to 25-35 mph is insane.
The abs light is on and service engine soon light has been on since my wife has bought her car in sept 2018 when she had a warenty the dealer sold her a car made her sign paper work before she could even test drive vehicle know we have a vehicle that doesnt work properly traction control is off stabilitrack is on dash notification also timing chain is bad and crankshaft needs to be replaced acording to diagnostic code dealership in alexandria mn lakes area auto sales eric gardener is the owner which refuses to fix or give us diferent car my family has 5 disabled people that we need to transport and know cant because of the dealership selling us a car thats not reliable.
Vehicle can be inadvertently by either a passenger or an object put into neutral. No alert or chime is made to alert the driver that the car is in neutral, only the gear selector on the dash or the light on the button indicates that it is in neutral. If something is covering the shifter, such as a bag or other item, it is possible that an acccident might occur becuase the bag or item may press the button, shift the vehicle into neutral cause the driver to be confused and not have power to maneuver the vehicle in an emergency situation. A chime should alert the driver that the vehicle has been put in neutral so it draws attention to that fact. In another scenario a small child that is old enough to sit in the passenger seat but not old enough to understand the controls might press the button, causing the driver to have an accident because they are not able to maneuver out of the way of an impending collision. I have verified this possibility by pressing the neutral button at various speeds and it is very possible for it to happen unintentionally. Other vehicles with similar systems have the buttons and or shifter in a place where inadvertent engagement of the button is unlikely. Other scenarios - people placing phones, bags etc during the course of driving, as on a highway may interfere with shifting in an emergency situation or may cause one by putting the vehicle in neutral. As in an hour in on a long drive, someone blocks the shifter because they aren't in need of it at the moment as they might be while parking or maneuvering in city traffic.
I bought a used 2011 GMC Terrain with a clean carfax and 35000 miles on it. I have had nothing but problems. The car burn at least a quart of oil every 2 weeks. The constantly just cuts off when driving. GMC needs to do sometime about this before peolpe are killed.
The drakes lock up and will not release until the car sits for sometime about 2-8 hours. The service stabilitrack light comes on and you lose engine power almost instantly. I have had four different shop fix what they suspected was the problem and the last shop was a dealership and it happened to me a week later while out of town for a wedding.
(tw dealer info) tl- the contact owns a 2011 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000. The VIN was not available.
This car stalls for no reason while driving. I have fixed it multiple times but no fix works. It stalled on me while exiting the freeway yesterday, very scary situation. I am worried I will be in a wreck. I press the gas and the car will not accelerate. Very dangerous in certain situations. Especially when it stalls while making a turn in a intersection. Almost got t-boned the other day when it stalled while a car was oncoming. Since gm is not willing to acknowledge the problem and have not fix in place I will be getting rid of the car at my loss.
While driving on freeway in san diego, CA during morning rush hour, car suddenly lost power. Dashboard message was "reduced power to engine. " car would suddenly only go 30 mph. Very dangerous. I was in the middle lane of freeway and luckily avoided collisions, as traffic flow was 70 mph. Took car to GMC dealer and throttle body had to be replaced. Total cost was $458. I could have easily created a major traffic accident causing injury to myself and many others because I suddenly could only drive 30 mph.
Several times in 3 years, the dealership can not duplicate the problem loss of power starts running slow, wont go over 20 mph, check stability light comes on, check engine light starts blinking, acts like misfire or no fuel in vehicle, starts anywhere at any time, very unsafe and scary. At least taken to a certified dealership 7 or 8 times and every time they do something differant , yet the problem persists! the vehicle can be stationary at red light and big or while driving going 45 or 65 and drop to 20 mph and not want to go, I push the gas paddle to floor and it does nothing. This has been intermediate and a problem since month 3 of buying my vehicle. This is not safe and the dealership has basically givin up on me and my vehicle.
While driving message read reduced engine power lost all power could not control the steering wheel! then the car shut down and continued to roll down the highway . Almost got hit by other cars from behind. Very frightening for me I almost got a panic attack. I managed to stop the car on the shoulder of the road with half of the car still blocking other cars . Car will not start. The battery is new . I have done research on social media and there's thousands of gm customers who have or are facing the same issues. Is this another cover up by gm that's continuously ignoring this problem and the consumers are paying thousands of dollars in this repair. I was told I need repairs that will cost $4000 dollars on a 2011 GMC Terrain car I got a year ago. This is ridiculous. Who is fighting for the consumers?.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that upon starting and driving the vehicle, she was unable to see or read the speed odometer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,115. Kc.
Summary: I had to decide to brake or shoot through a yellow light, going about 35 mph, I braked! all of a sudden I heard a clunk and then alarm ding from the dash as well as message "service stabiltrak" then "reduced engine power". I was unable to go any faster than 25mph. I drove in this mode for about 2 miles taking the back streets to my destination. At destination shut vehicle off to see if this would reset something, it did! it was super scary. So now terrified to brake hard.
To whom it may concern, yesterday, 3/22/15, my wife and I were driving while carol took her foot off the gas pedal as we were approaching a stop light. At that time the car started accelerating. Is this a new problem or has it been reported before? who do I contact to investigate this issue and ensure that my vehicle is safe? my daughter bought a 2014 GMC Terrain last year and I’m concerned about her vehicle as well.
2011 GMC Terrain. Consumer writes in regards to engine and vehicle acceleration issues. The consumer stated when he accelerated from 25 to 35 mph, he experienced a sudden loss of power to 5 mph. The dealer replaced the throttle body.
I was driving on the highway at 60 mph and all of a sudden lost power. The reduced power and check stabilitrak messages appeared on the screen. I pulled over to the side of the road and turned the engine off. I immediately tried starting the vehicle again and it did, so went on my way. Got down the road about three miles and the same thing, so pulled to the side of the road and turned the engine off. I tried to start the vehicle, but there was no response, everything was dead. I waited several minutes and tried again and it started. I continued on my way and didn't have anymore trouble getting to my destination. A couple of days later, the same thing happened except when I tried to turn the vehicle off, it continued to run very roughly and then finally shut off. It did start again and had the engine light on. I've had the vehicle to the local GMC dealer when the first incident happened, however when they tried to read the codes, there were no codes to read even though the engine light was on. I was told everything checked out fine. I was down the to dealer again today with the engine light on again, but before they could check it out, the engine light had gone out. To me this is a very serious problem as it can very easily cause an accident. So far I've been lucky that I haven't lost the power steering or brakes.
