11 problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 1997 GMC Yukon. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Anti lock brakes activate at low speeds. This has been going on for about 1 year. Took vehicle to service department 6 months ago and they would not service this problem. At very low speeds the anti lock brakes activate. The braking distance is greater when this happens. This happens everyday, but not every time the brakes are applied.
A lady slammed on her brakes in front of me when I put on my brakes there was nothing there. I then pumped the brakes and felt them catch. They popped and I stopped with a sudden jerk. I came within maybe a inch of hittng her. Something needs to be done about this brake system. I took my car in thinking my brakes were going out. I was told everything was fine. They are not fine.
Premature failure of the parts at low mileage. No safety defect listed.
When driving on freeway at 65mh consumer hit brakes because vehicle in front stopped very fast. Upon applying the brakes, vehicle swerved from side to side and lost control. Steering wheel was shaking very badly. Finally came to a stop. Contacted dealer. This has happened before, but the steering wheel had moved unexpectedly at high speeds.
When applying brake pedal it feels spongy, and causes vehicle not to stop as quickly as it should. Dealer/manufacturer were not contacted at this time. Provide further details.
Brakes non-existent or unavailable on bumpy roads, in cold, icy or snowy conditions. Apply them, but they do not seem to work at all. Complete system has been checked and dealer claims they function as designed. I have not had an accident yet, but have come close on numerous occasions.
Shortly after purchasing vehicle I noticed that the anti-lock brakes would activate at slow speeds on normal surfaces. Dealer checked vehicle out and indicated that everything was fine, and since this is my first vehicle with abs I assumed this was normal. Over the past year the abs has been activating much more often and now the dealer says the hub assembly needs replaced at a cost of $300. 00. In checking recall history, I have found where the 1998 Yukons had a recall for this hub assembly in the spring of 1998 and the problem seems very similar to the problem with my vehicle. The dealer indicates that my anti-lock brakes are not working at this time. I would be interested in knowing if other 1997 Yukons are having the same problem. Thank you, dennis klingele.
Driving at approx 42 mph brakes felt like they were slipping. Did not stop in traffic. Pedal went to floor, brakes faded out. Vehicle went about 84 feet still did not stop. Rearended another vehicle. Dealer said rear brake was out of ajustment.
Erratic power steening control while in turns and highway driving, not always present, but able to reproduce with patients of dealer on test drive. Since new dealer has said it was tire balancing and alignment which they attemped to correct several time. After one of these correction in Aug 99, problem became more apparent . Wife is driver and I always took their word for correction until I insisted there is other problem and find it. So far they have replaced steering box, put on 4 new tires and wheels among a host of balancing/alignments etc , no corrections as of yet. Steering wheel pulls eradictly/shudders feels gone at times. Is interm at times but much more pronounced of late. Brakes; there have been many occasions where the brakes lock up when applied heavily, I learned this by asking wife and duplicated it on nurmerous occasions with erratic reaction of the brake pedal.
When depressing brake pedal there is into extended stopping distance. Also,an air noise was coming form firewall. Please provide further information.
When driving at a speed of 30 mph and over , the steering releases for a few seconds and the vehicles wander all over the place . Also the steering feel loose at all times. Also when stepping on the brakes sometimes the truck doesn't stop , I also don't think the abs is working properly. I tried it in slippery conditions and I never felt the pedal shake . I had a 1995 Yukon before and it worked fine. 8ak.
