The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the steering wheel became seized causing the vehicle to crash into an embankment. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a crushed pelvis in three areas, left leg and ankle nerve damage and dislocated right shoulder. The front passenger sustained a broken left leg and ankle, broken jaw and front and side teeth were knocked out which required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2005

The consumer experienced various steering, suspension and transfer case problems with her 2001 GMC Yukon. The cigarette lighter was hanging out. The dealer replaced the housing and element. The parking brake shoes were replaced. Teflon grease was installed on driveshaft to alleviate the bumpiness in the rear. License plate light fogged up. The dealer replaced the lamp. The driveshaft was replaced along with the yoke at the rear u-joint. The consumer heard a clunking noise when putting the vehicle in reverse. The dealer determined that the transfer case chain had stretched. The dealer r and r the transfer case and replaced the chain.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2003

Problems with 2001 denali xl/ SUV died and there was loss of brakes, steering and acceleration. Vehicle was at idle when it died the first time. Dealership couldn't diagnose the problem but knew it had to do with the fuse. Consumer was given fuses but they all failed within 50 miles. Vehicle returned to the dealership. It was diagnosed and the electronic throttle control module was replaced. Third failure occurred while traveling 65 mph on a highway when the brakes, steering and acceleration failed. The consumers escaped unharmed. They requested an investigation and recall on the vehicle.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2001

Multiple failures; a/c odors, door lock, suspension alignment and brakes. There were problems with the following: weather strip was loose, the a/c blew warm, the belts squeaked, there was a mildew odors, the window regulator, the front seat belt squeaked, the door panel, the steering wheel rattled, drive shaft, accelerator pedal, the wipers were noisy, the hinge pin on the radio was loose, engine noises, a/c drain would not drain at times until the passenger door was closed/water lead and caused by the left front floorboard.
