An independent mechanic stated that the brake lines were corroded and one of the lines was severed. In addition, brake fluid was leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 166,000.

I have 2003 GMC Yukon with only 43k that I bought brand new in '03. The problem is its premature wear of the emergency brake. I was told by a gm mechanic that my parking brake is about to fail due to worn shoes. How is that so? I haven't even had the chance to replace my brake pads just yet. How is that possible that my parking brake shoes wear out way before my brake pads do, that I used every time I drive?.
Recently discovered, after being warned by brake shop employee, that the emergency brake was inoperative. He said this was a common failure of these vehicles, (gm's - Yukon, tahoe, suburban, etc. Series). Returned vehicle to gm dealer who repaired it and acknowledged it was a common problem.
