1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2023

My 03 Yukon denali is experiencing all of the same things that the recall on the 2021 Yukon is experiencing. What do I do? the recall notice I am referring to is n252494000.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2022

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that upon purchasing the vehicle from a towing company, the vehicle would not start. The battery was instantly replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle would wobble and shut off inadvertently while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the stabilizers and shocks were replaced. The independent mechanic then took the vehicle to an electrical failure specialist where it was diagnosed that the front end of the vehicle was experiencing electrical failures. Additionally, the contact stated that a warning message stating that the air bags were not working was displayed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2019

Car looses power and goes into reduced engine power. Unable to drive over 2mph. Happens at random times, in all modes of travel, uphill, downhill, from a stop and acceleration. The worst was when it happened going 55mph on a highway. Two separate mechanics have been unable to pinpoint the problem even after $1,300 worth of work and new parts. It's been happening since mid October 2019 ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly; 4 - VIN corrected, error in one position only (indicated by ! in suggested VIN), multiple matches found; 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2018

I have a 2003 Yukon denali I purchased and it has given me the reduced engine power light and almost had a few accidents on the highway because it drops the speed to 20 mph also it has the check engine codes as p0120 and p2135 I have been aware that gm has not found a solution to this and wanted to see if there is any recalls as I am very afraid of being in a very serious accident with my children in the car.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2016

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon xl 1500. The contact mentioned that the previous owner of the vehicle experienced a failure with the reduced engine power warning indicator. The dealer replaced the throttle body, but the failure continued before the contact owned the vehicle. The contact experienced the warning light randomly flashing, which drastically reduced the speed to less than 20 mph. The contact had to constantly turn off and restart the vehicle, but the failure continued to progress randomly. The dealer replaced the wiring, 02 sensor, the throttle body was replaced a second time, the battery, and the alternator. The repairs failed to provide a permanent solution and the warning light continued to illuminate for the reduced engine power. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 188,000.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

Reduced engine power mode on hwy at 70 mph.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2015

I keep having the display say "reduced engine power". I'll be driving on the highway, doing 65 in rush hour traffic, when all of the sudden the accelerator no longer accelerates and it displays "reduced engine power" on the gauge cluster display. From what I've seen online it appears to be an issue with the throttle position sensor on thousands of other similar vehicles with the same engine, chevy suburban's, silverado's, tahoe's, etc. I replaced the throttle position sensor and the harness (because I heard the harness might also be an issue) and I am still having the same problem with my truck. It has done it over a dozen times on one trip back from work (80 miles for me). I have to pull over to the side of the road (if possible) and turn off the truck, then wait a short period of time, then turn the truck back on. This usually fixes the issue, but it did not help me when it happened to me in the tunnel and I was going 5 mph (top speed during the "reduced engine power" mode, once your drifting stops (because you drift, it doesn't engage the brakes). I was extremely worried that I wouldn't make it out of the tunnel without get rear ended, and once I made it out, I was just outside of the tunnel awaiting roadside assistance, it was very frightening, with my daughter in the car.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle experienced independent deceleration and the reduced engine power warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was previously taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump, spark plugs, transmission, and alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and transferred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2014

We were driving up in the mountains and we lost power briefly to the engine. The lights flickered and the dash board went out. Then the loss of engine power came on and the stability/traction came on too. This has happened weekly for the last two years. This last time was alarming since we were coming down a mountain in a storm and could have been stranded up there with no running vehicle to keep us warm. This needs to get a recall or investigation going on these vehicles. If you google this issue you will see that there are hundreds if not thousands of people that are affected with this issue. It will kill people if they expect to have power to get through an intersection fast enough and the vehicle gives out on them.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

Vehicle went into reduced engine power and stabiltrak warning light came on. Reduced speed from 60 to 10mph. Now occurs on a regular basis.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2013

Wife driving truck to work " reduced engine power", message came on the dash, and also said traction control was disabled. Power was reduced gradually to ten miles per hour. She floored the gas, nothing. Turned it off, restarted it, nothing. Engine light and traction disabled lighted were illuminated. Also the rear mirror temperature display flickers all the time. Drl burn out almost daily. Gmcs have major electrical issues before people start dying. Imagine a car shutting down on you while on the highway. That an accident waiting to happen. The rear wiper works when it feels like working, there is also a message about fixing the ride control. For all the bail money GMC got, they should recall these mistakes they made.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2013

Vehicle loses power.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

Engine went into reduced engine power (rep) mode and 4 diagnostic troubleshooting codes (dtc¿s) were set all relating to the throttle activation circuit (tac). When this happens the engine power is shut off immediately and the engine will only idle. This is a known issue with gm and is a potentially extremely dangerous safety issue. The entire tac system ( throttle body, tac module, pcm, wire harnesses/connectors) needs to be investigated.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Vehicle powers down without any pattern, rhyme or reason. It will do it at 5 mph, and at 55 mph, when driven a lot, and when not. Reduced engine power light turns on, vehicle suddenly slows to 25 mph max, steering becomes hard, brakes too. Then will totally shut off immediately. I have replaced the battery, throttle body assembly and wiring harness twice. Fuses, fuel pump and filters, oil, and everything else as recommended. It put me in the ditch. It stranded me in the center of a freeway in winter. When it sits for a while, it resets, only to do it again. T/c light turns on also. I found out that I can manually reset the reduced engine power for a few moments (to get out of the center of the road) by turning the ignition switch on and off very fast. It is a extreme safety hazard! I haven't driven it in months due to absolute fear for my life. When its in reduced engine power mode, I can't get it to go above 25, and going up hills can't go above 5mph. If I am pulling a trailer, it starts to go backwards. This thing is going to kill someone! please help.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

While driving posted speed on expressway vehicle suddenly shut off. Leaving no power steering no power brakes. I see many complaints on your website as well as online. Are you doing anything about this issue? it is the same issue that you are currently requiring gm to recall over 1 million vehicles for. Your current recall only goes back to the 2009 models. Why are you not requiring all gm vehicles recalled since 1996? they all have the same key lock system and same abs systems both of which seem to contribute to or cause the problem. If a vehicle is built with a safety hazard does the fact that it is older mean that it is no longer a manufacture's responsibility to repair it? since the government owns gm how are you affected in initiating a recall? the government does not allow other companies to police themselves, yet is that not what you are doing with gm?.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2012

Driving 65 mph on the highway and all of a sudden my car loses power. This is very dangerous! the dash says reduced engine power. Engine light comes on. Codes for the problem p0120, p0171, p0174, p0300, p2135. I got everything done that was suggested the codes are gone and it's still happening!! not sure what the GMC dealership is up to but they don't have a clue to what's causing it or how to fix it!.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

When driving the vehicle it drives fine but when it gets to speeds around 50-60 it will completely shut off I have to put it on n and turn the key all the way back and then try starting it again. After it turns off the first time then it will start turning off more randomly. I have been reading online and it seems to be a known issue with these trucks around the same year.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2012

Driving on hwy going aprx 65mph. Vehicle said reduced engine power and started slowing down. I had to pull to side of the road. I managed not to be rear ended. This has happened often. It is a potentially life threatening situation. GMC know about this problem and how difficult it is to find the proper fix. Someone is going to die due to their lack of action. It's not safe.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2012

We have a 2003 Yukon that will shuts down anywhere and anytime, the following example has happend more than once. We were driving on the highway when "reduced engine power" "stability traction loss" appeared on display - I pressed the accelerator and the vehicle would not move. I had to completely shut down the engine wait a few minutes then restart in order for the vehicle to operate correctly and a couple miles down the road, it happened again. It was a snowy mess out side which made the situation worse. This is a major safety concern as I am unable to accelerate in order to avoid an accident. I get scared because there could be a semi behind us and it will just plow into us because we can not do anything until we shut down the engine and restart. Very scary. We researched this issue to find other people are in the same situation and no one seems to know how to fix it. This is a long standing issue, gm is aware of this issue but will not issue a recall. Gm seems to be having alot of problems that they are not dealing with. Shame on gm!.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that the battery drained prematurely. The contact replaced the battery several times and the alternator was also replaced; however, the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection who located the failure at the engine electrical wires. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in the manufacturer battery drain replacement recall 02066. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2011

I was driving my Yukon 2003 denali and the error message showed up "reduced engine power". I wasn't able to get the speed up to 30 mph on the highway. I pulled into a parking lot and had someone come pick me up. When I went to pick up my vehicle, the message no longer appeared and it functioned at normal speeds. I am nervous about traveling with my family in the vehicle now.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2011

Reduced engine power. Truck goes into traction control while driving or turning stability control is off. Check engine lite goes on and off while driving mass flow sensor keeps coming on.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2011

Randomly, the truck will go from driving completely normal to getting a message saying "reduced engine power" and then it cuts off power. This has happened 10 to 12 times, the last time it happened I could not drive more than approx 35 mph even with the gas pedal floored. We have replaced the supposedly defective part(s) to no avail.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2011

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon. While driving various speeds, the reduced engine power and stability system disabled indicators illumianted on the instrument panel. The vehicle suddenly experienced a loss in acceleration. The failure recurred for a span of three years. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2011

This vehicle displayed a message thet the engine was running at reduced power. The vehicle's engine slowed to idle speed while we were driving on a public street. We had been pulling a travle trailer just prior to this happening. This created a possible danger to us as well as other drivers on the street since we could hardly get the vehicle to power up so we could get off the street. I called the local dealer in beaumont, TX. I was told that this was a commom operation to protect the enging from damage and that there is no recall for this problem. I wonder what would have happened if this had occured while we were motoring at highway speeds with the travel trailer in tow? if there is a choice between protecting the engine or my family, my family comes first. This is a safety issue that should be resolved before deaths occur from this problem. I took the car to a local mechanic who checked the failure code. He could not determine the exact problem but he cleared the fault code p2135 from the system. We were able to pull the trailer back home without any more problems. No other fault lights appeared on the return trip.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2010

Reduced engine speed warning light comes on and drops truck to an idle. I feel this is very dangerous in traffic and on highways. My mechanic has not been able to locate problem. All forums and online help has brought me to dead ends. This is my last resort, I believe gm knows what the problem is and am hoping they will do the right thing and recall before someone is seriously hurt or killed from this issue.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2009

I have had multiple ongoing electrical issues with this vehicle. Starting in 2005, the exterior electronics (I. E. Signal lights, stop lights, head lights, etc) began to malfunction. For example, I would trigger the signal for one direction and all of the signals for all directions would trigger. . . Even pressing the breaks triggered all of the exterior signals. The dealer had a hard time isolating my problem, but after several visits, the dealer was finally able to diagnose and rectify it. . . They isolated it to a junction box where all of the electronics terminate. However, by this time, my vehicle was out of warranty, so I had to cover the costs for reparing the problem myself. My most recent issues, which, by the way, seem to be common issues, are triggered by a message stating, "reduced engine power". This particular issue does not always render the same results. . . Sometimes the vehicle's speed will significatly decrease to nearly a halt, but other times I may just experience increased idling of the engine, even if I am at a complete stop. My understanding, according to hundreds of reports that I have read on the message boards, is that this issue is caused by either a wiring harness that leads from the excellerator to the throttle body or it's a defective throttle body alltogether. I have experienced intermittent electrical problems with my windows as well, but this appears to be a minor issue when compared to the other two that I addressed above. I will file a formal complaint with GMC corporate office today and see where that goes.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2008

December 2008- instrument cluster went out- speedometer no longer working December 2008- battery gauge no longer working March 2009- stabilitrak issues. . . Sometimes the stabilitrak would work and at times it would not work July 2009 to January 2010- reduced engine power (almost cause 2 wrecks) could not perform a diagnosis. . . Could not read computer. Changed fuel pump. No more reduced engine power message August 2011- wheel bearing issues. Reduced engine power (almost caused wreck. . . Backed up traffic) September 2011- gas pedal sticking November 2011- reduced engine power. . . Happens 5 times within a 30 mile trip. Attempted to resolve problem several times, but running out of options. Have to kill car in middle of highway or intersection to get car to work properly.
