I have a 2003 Yukon denali I purchased and it has given me the reduced engine power light and almost had a few accidents on the highway because it drops the speed to 20 mph also it has the check engine codes as p0120 and p2135 I have been aware that gm has not found a solution to this and wanted to see if there is any recalls as I am very afraid of being in a very serious accident with my children in the car.
Speedometer randomly sticks, or accelerates to maximum. Oil pressure gauges max out as well. Very dangerous to drive with no concept of speed, and also very illegal. When I stop the vehicle, I can turn off the engine. If I continue to turn the key 90% (but not enough to start the engine), and let off, the gauges will drop up to 5%. After 5 minutes of resetting the instruments, the gauges will reset. However, the next time I drive I might be going through a school zone at 40 instead of 25, but my speedometer says 80. Clearly unsafe.
There is an error message that displays on the dash for myself and thousands of others who own GMC/chevy trucks with these motors. They have a defective throttle position sensor with the truck where it says "reduced engine power". I've found 2 technical service bulletins that somewhat address the issue, but many people take their trucks to mechanics and dealerships to get the issue fixed and spend thousands of dollars in repairs and troubleshooting to get the issue resolved, to no avail. The 2 technical service bulletins that I found were #pip3089b (dated 10/31/2006) and #pip3042a (dated 8/30/2004). I've seen on many many forum posts about this issue and possible fixes, which when I read deeper into them, seem to not be true fixes.
I keep having the display say "reduced engine power". I'll be driving on the highway, doing 65 in rush hour traffic, when all of the sudden the accelerator no longer accelerates and it displays "reduced engine power" on the gauge cluster display. From what I've seen online it appears to be an issue with the throttle position sensor on thousands of other similar vehicles with the same engine, chevy suburban's, silverado's, tahoe's, etc. I replaced the throttle position sensor and the harness (because I heard the harness might also be an issue) and I am still having the same problem with my truck. It has done it over a dozen times on one trip back from work (80 miles for me). I have to pull over to the side of the road (if possible) and turn off the truck, then wait a short period of time, then turn the truck back on. This usually fixes the issue, but it did not help me when it happened to me in the tunnel and I was going 5 mph (top speed during the "reduced engine power" mode, once your drifting stops (because you drift, it doesn't engage the brakes). I was extremely worried that I wouldn't make it out of the tunnel without get rear ended, and once I made it out, I was just outside of the tunnel awaiting roadside assistance, it was very frightening, with my daughter in the car.
While driving on the highway and keping up with traffic, I noticed my speed was 75mph. Slowing down to the posted speed limit I was suddenly getting passed up by everyone. It wasn't untill I exited the highway and while waiting at a stoplight I noticed the speedometer was reading 10mph (while standing still). Checking GMC and Chevrolet forums online, this seems to be a common problem and a definate safety concern. The reading on the speedometer while in park now varies between 10-20 mph, and I have absolutely no idea how fast I'm actually travelling while driving. I've made an appt with the dealer to have it checked out, and I'm sure the repairs will be expensive!.
Vehicle has been serviced several times since first occurrence in September 2014. "reduced engine power" and service engine soon signals appear on vehicle panel causing engine power to be reduced in a matter of seconds. Has happened to me going 10mph, 55mph, and 70mph on highway, causing a near rear collision because I lost power so quickly. I have had it serviced 6 or 7 times since September 2014 and this issue is not getting resolved. Throttle body sensor replaced twice, throttle body harness replaced, all wires, and sensors have been cleaned and thoroughly inspected. Reduced engine power occurs weekly even after being serviced.
My brakes would engage but they will not disengaged and my brakes are buringing and smelling like burnt rubber. Breaks are also sticking. The electrical system keeps blinking on and off. Replace fuse but still not working. Not displaying the correct speed on dash board I'm going slower than the speed say.
As I was driving on 95n of college park, MD, my vehicle power seem to shutdown on the highway and the "reduce power engine" message appeared in my instrumentation panel. Fortunately I was close to the emergency pull off of the left lane to get out of traffic. I turned the truck off and back on, and the message went a way. I was able to continue to with my journey. However, just recently, it has done it again, this time my speed was around 35mph. Once again, I turned it off, than on and the message went away and I had power in my accelaration again. This is very dangerous. I'm taking it back in to the mechanic to have them look at it.
Wife driving truck to work " reduced engine power", message came on the dash, and also said traction control was disabled. Power was reduced gradually to ten miles per hour. She floored the gas, nothing. Turned it off, restarted it, nothing. Engine light and traction disabled lighted were illuminated. Also the rear mirror temperature display flickers all the time. Drl burn out almost daily. Gmcs have major electrical issues before people start dying. Imagine a car shutting down on you while on the highway. That an accident waiting to happen. The rear wiper works when it feels like working, there is also a message about fixing the ride control. For all the bail money GMC got, they should recall these mistakes they made.
I was driving approximately 65 mph uphill when my engine and traction light came on. My speed was immediately reduced to about 35 mph even though I tried to accelerate. I drove home about 8 miles at a reduced speed because I had my children in the truck and it was raining. I took the truck to a mechanic the next day and he replaced the throttle body. I picked up the truck that evening and as I was driving home the same thing happened again. I took the truck back to the mechanic, the check engine light and tc light was on again however he said that there was nothing wrong. His thought was to replace the throttle body again. Two replacements later, the problem remains.
I have heard of several accidents because of reduced engine power. It slows the vehicle down and people behind them rearended them because it is a sudden drop in speed and there is no time to slam on the brakes please get this fixed before a child is injured or killed thank you.
Driving to work and "reduce engine power" came on. Engine stalled out and would not gain speed. I was in a lot of traffic when this happen and my vehicle cause a incident because of the sudden engine reduced all speed. GMC should do some research about this problem and inform the public of all the dangers these vehicles are causing for public transportation. This is ludicrous that GMC does not have these vehicle off he streets and destroyed knowing that they are putting people lives in danger. I will ever ever buy a GMC vehicle again.
Vehicle powers down without any pattern, rhyme or reason. It will do it at 5 mph, and at 55 mph, when driven a lot, and when not. Reduced engine power light turns on, vehicle suddenly slows to 25 mph max, steering becomes hard, brakes too. Then will totally shut off immediately. I have replaced the battery, throttle body assembly and wiring harness twice. Fuses, fuel pump and filters, oil, and everything else as recommended. It put me in the ditch. It stranded me in the center of a freeway in winter. When it sits for a while, it resets, only to do it again. T/c light turns on also. I found out that I can manually reset the reduced engine power for a few moments (to get out of the center of the road) by turning the ignition switch on and off very fast. It is a extreme safety hazard! I haven't driven it in months due to absolute fear for my life. When its in reduced engine power mode, I can't get it to go above 25, and going up hills can't go above 5mph. If I am pulling a trailer, it starts to go backwards. This thing is going to kill someone! please help.
Driving 65 mph on the highway and all of a sudden my car loses power. This is very dangerous! the dash says reduced engine power. Engine light comes on. Codes for the problem p0120, p0171, p0174, p0300, p2135. I got everything done that was suggested the codes are gone and it's still happening!! not sure what the GMC dealership is up to but they don't have a clue to what's causing it or how to fix it!.
When driving the vehicle it drives fine but when it gets to speeds around 50-60 it will completely shut off I have to put it on n and turn the key all the way back and then try starting it again. After it turns off the first time then it will start turning off more randomly. I have been reading online and it seems to be a known issue with these trucks around the same year.
Driving on hwy going aprx 65mph. Vehicle said reduced engine power and started slowing down. I had to pull to side of the road. I managed not to be rear ended. This has happened often. It is a potentially life threatening situation. GMC know about this problem and how difficult it is to find the proper fix. Someone is going to die due to their lack of action. It's not safe.
The service engine light and traction control turn on and the information center on my cluster reads "engine power reduced" and "stability system disable", then my speed is reduced and only runs between ten and twenty miles per hour. I have to turn off my truck and turn it back on after a few minutes to continue, but this problem has happened on a daily basis. I think GMC is responsible for this and more similar problems.
When starting my 2003 GMC Yukon the dash says reduced engine power. . It won't go over 15 mph. . . . It happens everyday! I have to keep restarting it and let it get warm before I can go anywhere. If this happens while I am driving it, and someone hits me I will sue gm, as I have been a loyal gm customer for 35 yrs. . . If you read all the complaints on the web about the same problem then you would definitely issue a recall before someone gets killed.
Received recall notice for instrument panel cluster. Recall would only be covered if instrument panel cluster failed or within 7 years or 70,000 miles. Instrument panel cluster failed exactly as described in recall at approx. 167,000 miles. Only reason we know it failed was a speeding ticket was issued for 58 mph in a 45 mph zone. Car was being driven at 45 mph. Certified GMC service center confirmed instrument cluster was faulty. Cost to repair was $515. 62 plus cost of speeding ticket. I feel GMC should cover cost of repair.
I was driving my Yukon 2003 denali and the error message showed up "reduced engine power". I wasn't able to get the speed up to 30 mph on the highway. I pulled into a parking lot and had someone come pick me up. When I went to pick up my vehicle, the message no longer appeared and it functioned at normal speeds. I am nervous about traveling with my family in the vehicle now.
I was just driving my Yukon and the speedometer was reading 100 miles I knew something was wrong because when I stop and turn it off the speedometer stayed at 40 miles and I dont know at what speed am at when am on the freeway, I as a mechanic shop an they told me that I had to go to the dealer for that.
When traveling at any rate of speed, the reduce engine power light comes on at I lose all power. I must try and pull over at a safe place, stop the car, turn off ignition and wait 10-15 second before starting and just hope it will return to normal mode. This can happen many times in one day and then it may not happen at all for long periods of time. Very dangerous! I have been driving 70 mph and had to immediately try and pull over out of speeding traffic, onto a shoulder and stop my car with my children.
My vehicle is a 2003 GMC Yukon. The speedometer is not registering, and when (the gauge) is trying to operate, the vehicle hesitates while accelerating and the gauge does the same as well as the gas gauge. I know all my dashboard gauges need to be checked for malfunction. This began two weeks ago, I called doug henry of farmville to check my vehicle for recalls, only to find out it is not listed. My husband has a 2003 GMC Yukon xl, he received a letter describing this problem and got information to get it fixed free of charge. I am not responsible for this problem and I believe there are other vehicles affected in this particular recall.
Details: speedometer reads incorrectly it just sits at zero, even at highway speeds. Very erratic needle movement.
Speedometer isn't registering correct speed while driving. Stopped and it registered 55 mph while standing still. Has trouble returning to zero. Problem started at 200 miles.
2003 Yukon xl speedometer starting at 70 mph standing still. Safety issue, cannot determine how fast you are going.
The speedometer on my 2003 Yukon xl displays totally erroneous readings. Judging from only the people who have complained about this condition on several makes of gm vehicles this issue should be addressed with a recall.
My speedometer has been sticking. Sometimes it resets sometimes it doesn't. Recently it has been stuck past the 120 mph. Repair shops recommend taking it to the dealer for service but have not done so yet. This has been happening off and on for at least 4 months.
The speedometer does not work, and the part is on back order for several more weeks.
Odometer reading and hour meter reading displaying alternately every 5 seconds while vehicle was garage parked and off, no key in the ignition, no other lights on. Dealer could not find problem, but re-secured ground connection. Also at various times hvac & radio face panel to hot to touch even with a/c on. Dealer re-programed something.
The vehicle had been placed in park with the engine running in which the consumer exited the vehicle. The consumer had gone to the back of the vehicle to the cargo door but the vehicle begun to move forward and crashed into the house. The transmission was in park the entire time.
While driving or idling, the "check engine light" is displayed. Engine goes into "reduced power mode". Dealer replaced accelerator control module. This did not correct the problem. They now think it is the throttle body. Time will tell, mean while I am without my $45,000. 00 truck.
