1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

My 2005 Yukon xl will, at random, shift itself into 4 wheel lo. It happens while driving and at speeds of 30+ mph. All of the lights on the push-button 4wd control module will light up or flash. No amount of button-pushing will disengage 4 wheel drive. I the car will slam to a 5 mph crawl when it does this. Also the traction control system deactivates at the same time. Has happened over 40 times now.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

This is the 2nd occurrence of the same incident in 3 months. While moving slowly through a parking lot, the engine just stops. No shudder, no rough idle, no warning. Without power, steering is impaired or impossible. Turning the ignition key restarts the engine normally. Jiggling the key cannot replicate the problem.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2012

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon denali xl. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the brakes failed as the check engine warning light illuminated. Also, the contact mentioned that the power steering fluid would need to be replaced every six months. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering cylinder, the power steering hoses, the master brake cylinder, and the braking system needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 98,000.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

On certain trucks, the bolt that attaches the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear may not meet specification. The bolt may fracture resulting in the loss of steering. This is from a GMC sierra truck, but I have this wrong with my GMC Yukon.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2006

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon. While driving approximately 25 mph and making a left turn, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The dealer re-lubed the steering shaft. Recently, the failure recurred while making a right turn. The current mileage was 41,000 and failure mileage was 21,000.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2006

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon xl. While making either a left or right turn at 10 mph, the contact could hear a loud popping or clicking sound. She took the vehicle to a local dealer and they adjusted the straps, lubed the front, and tightened the cross member bolts. The failure was also present in the rear of the vehicle and the dealer performed the same repairs as were made to the front end. The vehicle was returned to the dealer at 11,600 miles for the same failure and repairs. At 14,100 miles, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they repaired the radiator support. At 18,962 miles, the vehicle was returned to the dealer for the popping and clicking sounds. The steering intermediate shaft was replaced. On July 7, 2006, the dealer repaired the front suspension cross member bolts again. At 35,661 miles, the steering shaft was replaced due to the same failure. At 42,092 miles, the steering shaft had to be replaced again. At 67,762 miles, the dealer stated that the drive shaft needed to be replaced. The steering wheel made a squealing noise when it was turned. No repairs have yet been made for the most recent failure. The failure mileage was 3,998 and current mileage was 67,762.
