1 Tire Sidewall problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2008

The contact owns a 2008 GMC Yukon xl 1500. The contact ordered a vehicle that was specifically designed to tow a trailer. The vehicle came equipped with goodyear passenger tires, size p26570r17. While driving between 55-60 mph, he noticed that the vehicle swayed from right to left. The contact almost lost control of the vehicle. He believed that the passenger tires on the vehicle were insufficient for towing a trailer. A representative from the dealer stated that the tires were standard for that model. They also suggested that the trailer was overloaded; however, the vehicle tows up to 8,100 lbs. The failure mileage was 2,500. Updated 05/19/08 the consumer stated he experienced severe swaying problems while towing his trailer. The consumer believed the factory installed tires were designed with soft sidewalls for a smooth ride in a passenger car and not for the trailer towing which required tires with stiff sidewalls to discourage swaying. The consumer stated the vehicle should have light truck tires. Update 05/20/08.
