general problems of the 2012 GMC Yukon

The contact's son owned a 2012 GMC Yukon. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21v051000 (air bags) and requested to be removed from the recall distribution list as her son no longer owns the vehicle. The local dealer and manufacturer were contacted.

I was driving and slowed down upon approaching speed bumps and going over speed bump my dashboard cover cracked. There was no warning after it cracked the more I drove the more it cracked I am currently buying a dashboard cover to go over the cracked dashboard.

My vehicle is part of the takata airbag recall. David welch at nashville beaman GMC told me it was "up to me" if I drive the vehicle - I am in group 10 for it to be fixed and he does not know when that will be. Case was made with GMC - case # 9-6579504849 spoke with corrine - she quoted several times that GMC stands behind the safety of the airbags and they are doing the recall only because a judge told them to. I repeated multiple times that I am concerned about the safety of my family and that my 16 year old is often in the front seat. She again stressed GMC stands behind the safety and she does not have any idea when my vehicle will be fixed. I feel this is not a safe practice. Other dealers (for example Lexus) have given loaner cars - for up to a year - and have done much more to insure the safety of their drivers. GMC leaving safety "up to the driver" is not safe practice.

The problem started a couple of years ago as a small crack in the dashboard at the upper left corner of the airbag. The crack widened and lengthened after replacement of the air bag last year. Then the dash cracked earlier this year at the crown above the instrument cluster. It has completely separated and is nearly 12” in length. Not only does it rattle to the point of driver distraction, but I would think there is a high risk of shattering during a collision potentially causing facial lacerations, blindness and the like. I really don’t want to wait to find out. According to carparts. Com, this is a well known issue with gm trucks, suburbans and Yukons from 2007 to 2014 and gm has failed to make good on the problem.

Dash is cracked by airbag and could cause deployment delay.

My dash is cracking and some of those cracks are right near the passenger air bag. I'm concerned during a crash if the air bag is deployed, the dash could splitter causing fragments to fly at occupants faces and/ or puncture the air bag rendering it useless.

The entire front dash is beginning to separate. There is a crack in the dash where the airbag is located. It appears to be caused from the airbag.

Two weeks ago, a crack in the dashboard near the passenger air bag suddenly appeared. In doing some research, I have found that many other people have had a similar experience. This problem seems to have affected the following models: GMC Yukon, Cadillac escalade, GMC sierra, Chevrolet silverado, Chevrolet tahoe, Chevrolet suburban, and Chevrolet avalanche. My concern is with the fact that this crack is very close to the passenger airbag and is a safety concern. I am also concerned that the airbags may not work properly when needed because of this defect.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2012 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated the dashboard was cracked in three places. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21v051000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called allen GMC (28332 camino capistrano, laguna niguel, CA 92677, (949) 391-9094) where it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 75,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Dash has 2 cracks. One above speedometer. The other is cracked on the top left corner of the dash that surrounds the passenger airbag. Vehicle was purchased 1/16/19. I am simply adding mine to the large volume of complaints because I believe it may be a safety hazard. Not sure how long it has been there, but this vehicle was extremely well maintained and garaged it's whole life.

The dashboard is cracked on driver side with plastic pieces falling down into dash, dashboard is also cracked on passenger side on the corner of the airbag. This is a known issue and I want it fixed. I feel that the airbags ability to deploy on passenger side is compromised if an accident occurs. I bought this vehicle with thoughts of being safe for me, my wife and two small children. Gm has said they are not going to fix it, this is my last plea for help. Replacing is expensive but feel like it's defect in vehicle design(evident by how many complaints I found). If there is a accident in this vehicle and airbag fails I will hold gm accountable for any harm caused to my family.

The dash board is cracked and rattles near the air bag. This is concerning that if an accident would occur, the cracked dash could cause further bodily harm. This defect just showed up unexpectedly and I am afraid will crack more as time goes on. I cannot recall if it occurred while driving or stationary.

Large crack in dashboard around airbag, and above control panel. Concerned about safety and efficacy of airbag, and dashboard in the event of a front end crash. Vehicle is garage parked. GMC wants $1,600 to replace on a 6 year old vehicle with less than 60,000 miles on it.

Cracked dashboard. This is the second gm vehicles I've owned in which cracks appear on the dashboard for no apparent reason. My concern is if the air bag is deployed, small shards of plastic may lead to serious injury.

Dashboard has cracked in multiple places including around the air bag causing concern for safety if the vehicle is involved in a crash.

About one year ago we noticed a small crack at the corner of the �lid� to the passenger seat air bag. Now we have a crack at the hump of the steering wheel this is a huge safety concern to us as it could result in terrible injury in any number of ways. 1the air bag could explode at any time due to the crack in the lid area, without any warning and without the result of being in an accident thus harming anyone in the passenger seat 2the broken dash could result in terrific injury in the event of an accident and air bag deployment as the brittle pieces and sharp edges of cracked plastic become flying in the car 3the airbag could misfire due to the damaged lid (for example; hitting and breaking the windshield and not protecting the head of the passenger) causing further injury and harm 4the crack in the plastic of the dashboard could be even more extensive than we can see. The entire dashboard could be defective and cracked and suddenly fall off as the result of a bump or pothole causing injury and possible accident 5the defective dashboard plastic could have cracks that would cause wiring to be pinched, cut or severed causing heat, fire, and possible accidents and injuries 6sun shining thru the windshield could cause the cracks to widen 7our favorite 87 year old mom usually rides in the passenger seat. She is irreplaceable and invaluable. 8this is and has been a �known� issue to GMC. 9we are both disabled and on fixed incomes. We are unable to repair this ourselves and should not have to. Safety and dependability is one of the reasons we always purchased GMC Yukons. This is our 4th GMC Yukon/suburban. We never doubted that GMC made quality products that were consumer safe. Now this dashboard airbag issue has us very worried and concerned for our health and safety and the health and safety of all our family and passengers.

Cracks in dash next to airbag; questionable affect on airbag.

There are two cracks on dash located on both sides just above passenger airbag . I am worried about plastic projectiles if involved in an accident. I am aware of several thousand other complaints of the exact same nature. I had spoke to faulkner GMC trevose about this issue. They did inform me they were aware of the problem and that they had several other complaints but refused to help due to the expiration of my bumper to bumper warranty. There was no trauma to vehicle. Dashboard is just cracking. The vehicle is exceptionally taken care of and garage kept.

Dash is cracked around the air bag. Worried air bag will not function properly. This is a defect with several gm SUV's and trucks. Gm will not fix.

Dashboard cracked spontaneously from top edge to window edge over odometer and a small crack at passenger airbag.

Dash board cracked on passenger side right on the airbag's left hand corner. Crack is getting worse as time goes by. Dealer wont assume responsibility unless GMC will approve to do so. Vehicle is at all times on garage or under shade so sun has no effect to the diffect. Bought the 2012 Yukon denali 1 year ago as certified preowned vehicle with a 1 year bumper to bumper warranty.

The dashboard is cracking on the drivers side instrument cover and right into the air bag dash location. Only 43,000 miles mainly garage kept and sunshade installed when out of cover. The same thing happened on a 2007 suburban.

Dash has cracked above instrument panel. Crack is approximately 6-8-inches in length. Dash is also cracked in two locations on the passenger side. I feel these cracks could be a safety concern when the airbags are deployed. These cracks occurred under normal driving conditions are not the result of a previous accident or being struck by an object.

Cracked dash board. Appeared suddenly. Car was not in motion and parked when crack was discovered. It's a 2012 Yukon xl so not an older model.

Noticed a crack on dash by airbag system shortly after purchase . Was told by dealership that I would have to pay almost $1,000 to repair even though vehicle was purchased as gm certified. As of yesterday, the crack is much larger and appears to be separating at corner of airbag assembly area on passenger side of dash. This has to be considered a safety concern. Please advise.

Large crack in dash at corner of passenger air bag cover appeared in sept 2013. Another large crack appeared over steering wheel column in August 2014. I have researched and found that this is an inherent defect in several gm models since at least 2007 and that gm may offer to pay half of the replacement fee. I am concerned that, if the passenger air bag were to deploy, the plastic would shatter at the cracked area and act as shrapnel.
