36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2025

I have had this vehicle serviced twice for the electrical issue on the running boards. While driving and while parked the running boards constantly deploy and store on their own or get stuck at a half way position. This will happen even if I have them turned off or on.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2025

At 9,900 miles my safety camera system failed which disabled the cruise control and all safety features that used the camera. Car was out of service for nearly two weeks and subsequently fixed by the dealer under warranty at no charge. At 11,300 miles I was driving on an interstate highway in the left lane at rush hour, without warning the car stopped accelerating the car shifted into neutral and totally lost power. It was a very dangerous situation with me in the left lane in heavy traffic. I am a skillful driver and thankfully I was able to make it off the travel lanes on the highway. The temperature was 18 degrees at the time and I had to wait outside for a tow truck. The engine seized without warning or noise and this presents a severe danger to the driver of the vehicle and other vehicles on the highway. There was a substantial possibility that other vehicles could not avoid me as I was exiting the travel lanes. There was also a substantial possibility that the vehicle would simply be in the travel lane stopped on a divided highway.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2024

I have been told the module asm-comn interfac part #86581706 has failed and is on back order, with no anticipated in stock date, and not available to be repaired. This controls the vehicles communication with onstar which is currently not working. Onstar is sold as a safety feature of the vehicle. In addition I do not have access to the location services of the vehicle, also sold as a safety feature of the vehicle. The vehicle is available to inspection. The problem has been inspected by a GMC dealer. There were no warning lamps, messages or promts when the module failed. I had to have the failure diagnosed by the dealer to locate the failure.

40 Electrical System problem

The telematics control module became defective and could not communicate with the bcm and serial data gateway module, causing a check engine light, loss of onstar communications, clock, navigation, and remote vehicle-to-app communication. This part was known to be defective by gm. Gm replaced the part starting in 2021 on escalade models but not others. Service update # n212331730. The tcm became defective less than 24 months after purchase. The dealer stated the vehicle was over mileage for the warranty. The total repair cost was $1846, of which $1110 was labor. Replacement of the tcm was required to clear the check engine light.

41 Electrical System problem

•what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? driver and passenger side rear view mirrors will not hold memory and auto adjust while driving at times. Been to the dealership 5 times. They could not repair and just said that a software update should fix it, but it did not fix it. I will program the mirrors to the preferred settings but when I re-enter the vehicle after shutting it down, it doesn't always retain the memory, and they go to random positions. This usually happens after 5 miles of driving the vehicle. The passenger side mirror will go down so I could see the curbs while in reverse but when I go into drive, it does not go all the way back up. I will be flying to visit family but the vehicle will be at a different dealership from 3/26/2025 to 4/1/2025. •how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? after adjusting the mirrors, I left my garage with my kids in the car and started driving to our destination. While entering the highway, I went to check my driver’s side rear view mirror and noticed that it was pointed to a random position. In that moment, I was trying to match the highway speed to enter, there was a vehicle in front of me, a vehicle behind me, and a vehicle on the highway exit/entrance lane that I was trying to be cognizant of location to adjust speed properly. I ended up doing multiple shoulder checks which caused me to lose visibility of the vehicle in front of me multiple times. •has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the dealership says they can not reproduce but I was physically able to show the service writer, he saw it happen. I also asked the dealership to drive it around after reprogramming it, but I don’t think they did drive it because after I bring the car home from the dealership, it starts doing it again. I have a service write up where the service writer says he say it occur. •has the vehicle or component been in.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2024

Problem synopsis: camera issues in 2023 Yukon denali vehicle information: model: 2023 Yukon denali issue description: the vehicle's camera system exhibits malfunctioning behavior after the vehicle gets wet, such as following intense rain. Problem details: initial trigger: the problem begins when the vehicle is put into reverse after being exposed to water, particularly following heavy rainfall. Observed malfunctions: the driver's side camera ceases to function immediately upon engaging reverse. Abrupt braking while in reverse leads to additional failures: the passenger side and forward-facing cameras also go black. Temporary recovery: the cameras intermittently resume operation based on the vehicle's movement: stepping on the brakes causes all cameras to go black. The cameras come back online one by one when the car rocks back, likely indicating water displacement around electrical connectors or modules. Hypothesis: the issues are likely caused by water affecting the electrical connections or modules associated with the camera system. This hypothesis is supported by the cameras' behavior correlating with changes in the vehicle's position and the presence of water. Recommendation: a thorough inspection of the camera system's connectors and modules is recommended, with particular attention to waterproofing and potential areas where water might collect and impact electrical components. Attached evidence: the attached document contains pictures illustrating the camera issues as observed during the malfunction. These images were taken immediately after the intense rain when the vehicle was put into reverse and during the subsequent camera failures. 43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2024

Engine shut off at freeway speeds (65mph) on 2 occasions. Driver was able to coast over to side of freeway both times. On 1st occasion chp protected vehicle from other traffic on I-5 with safety lights and traffic control. On second occasion, tow truck came quickly and kids were evacuated to prevent heat stroke in 113 degree weather. The first incident was “repaired” with a new starter and battery fuse block at 21720mi, but only lasted to 21814mi before same event occurred. No warning of failure before or after incident, just a dead engine. Second event (7/2/2024) is still being investigated by dealership.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2023

Approximately 14’000 miles we were told a rod went through the engine. Our vehicle failed at a high rate of speed leaving myself, wife, and 2 young children to pull off a major highway and call for police to help slow traffic. This happened while driving 70 mph on the highway. The only warning we received was when the car went from “d” drive to “n” neutral on the highway. Fortunately, we had enough time to pull to the side of the road before complete engine failure. GMC road side was not helpful. We were told we would have to find a ride home over an hour away, and when our ride arrived, so did the tow truck. Then, they had to drag the vehicle onto the flatbed because the tow truck company did not have the unlocking device for the wheels. Upon getting it to our house, the tow truck company had to rock our vehicle off the bed! we were not able to tow it where we purchased it. We either had to tow it to the nearest gm dealer or our house. We chose our house because the nearest gm dealer from where we broke down would've been over an hour away from our house. Our second engine failed 2200 miles later while my wife was sitting at a light in a busy intersection. The car again went from “d” to “n,” and it was immovable. The cops had to be called because the tow company couldn’t come fast enough. We were towed out of the intersection, but I waited over 5 hours with several dropped tows for a tow company. That occurred on my birthday. We are now on our third engine, and GMC wouldn’t warranty the engine. Our brand new tires went at 32,000 miles because GMC could not confirm or deny that rocking our vehicle on and off the flatbed three times didn’t affect the alignment. The front two tires inside tread was worn. I was told the tires from the factory are 50+ thousand mile tires. We barely got 32,000 miles. We’ve had multiple issues with electronics, back up camera, and media package. The lemon law won’t cover us because our first engine did not fail before 12,000 miles.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2023

I recently purchased my vehicle and after already transporting my family of 5, including my newborn child for several days, I noticed that my parking sensors were not working and I began receiving a message of my dash that parking assist, rear braking and auto park assist were unavailable. I reached out to gm around 4/4 informing them of the issue and they said they didn't have any recalls or retrofits for my vehicle and advised me to take it to a dealer's service deparment to be reviewed. After having an issue with simpson GMC of buena park of failing to even review my issue for a week, I took it to penske GMC of cerritos on 4/17 and they determined that during manufacturing of the vehicle, someone failed to connect the module that controls my parking sensors. They had to remove the front fascia of my vehicle to connect the module for everything to work correctly. This has forced me to call into question the quality control of gm vehicles and also concerns me that a car manufacturer would deliver a vehicle with such gross negligence where a consumer would not know the safety features they rely on to keep themselves and their family safe do not work. Gm customer service also never followed up on my issue even after calling and emailing them several times, which again calls into question how general motors operates their business.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2023

While driving in a gravel driveway, the window curtain airbags and the middle console airbags deployed, with no collision what so ever causing injury to the driver and should you have a child this could have been very damaging as the airbags came out in all the way back through the vehicle. This incident was inspected by police and fire as onstar called them as it detected a collision, and without the vehicle being moved from the location the officer said there is nothing that should have caused the airbags to deploy, there is absolutely nothing here in this driveway that could have possible caused airbag deployment, the running boards go in and out, even when on the interstate constantly, and when backing up or going forward at times, and especially in a gravel driveway your automatic breaks will stop you abruptly, so fast that your seat belt will lock up on your and thrust you forward and backwards. The rear entertainment system will screen at times when turning it on will stay black and you have to keep turning it on and off to get a screen to show. No warning lamps or messaging with any of these cases.
