14 problems related to air bag not deploy have been reported for the 1997 Honda Accord. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The srs light randomly came on. Took to mechanic and he said there is a problem with the srs module computer which means the airbags will not deploy.
S. R. S light malfuncting on 97 Honda Accord and Honda motor company refuses to acknowdledge it has a problem with this system. Articles on the internet report that Honda airbags at times do not deploy when involved in accidents where they should have. Honda motor company states in the owners manual that this system does not require maintenance and that be checked in 10 years. I feel the the Honda motor company should held accountable for this problem and made liable to repair this safety problem when contacted.
Srs light is on, 2nd occurrence. Reset at dealer first occurrence after collision, (air bag did not deploy). Second occurance, came on without collision.
Srs light illuminated, dealer cleared the fault code, however informed the consumer that the air bags may or may not deploy in an accident, manufacturer declined to make any necessary corrections to insure that the air bags will work properly.
I want to know why airbags did not deploy.
Was traveling 25-30mph when another vehicle sideswiped Honda on driver's side. Air bag light came on after accident, but air bags did not deploy. Light was not on prior to accident.
Consumer states air bag warning light (srs) came on and stayed on, vehicle was taken in to dealership to be inspected and consumer was advised by mechanic that there had been an internal failure to the air bag system and if an accident was to occur the air bags would not deploy, mechanic also advised consumer that there was a national back order for the needed part, and was not sure when part would be available.
Srs light remained on and the dealer indicated it was due to the computer failure. The consumer was concerned that the air bag might not deploy incase of accident as the result of malfunctioning.
Consumer was rear ended by someone and the airbags did not deploy. Consumer feels this could have caused bodily harm.
Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 35mph, and the air bags did not deploy, resulting in minor injuries. Manufacturer will be notified.
Consumer rear ended another vehicle at apporx. 35-40 from a dead stop, both air bags fail to deployed. Dealer / mfr. Was not notified at this time.
When driving between 35 mph and 40 mph stopped at a traffic light where there was an accident already, and consumer saw vehicle that stopped in front of his vehicle and couldn't stop on time. Consumer's air bag did not deploy. Dealer was contacted.
Vehicle stopped; cherokee rearended Accord; window shattered; Accord rearended vehicle in front & upon impact air bags did not deploy. Css in rear occupied but not hurt. Vehicle totaled.
The air bag light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the air bags will not deploy without a new computer system.
