31 problems related to body have been reported for the 1998 Honda Accord. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My cross member bar is rotting away.
My car kept jerking it also had stop while my feet was on the metal while on exit 41 my car spin around and almost collided with another car after the accident.
The air conditioning condensate drains onto the subframe assembly supporting the engine. There is a rust hole in the top of the frame at this location, first reported by the dealer tech and noted as 'common'. My mechanic and I watched it grow for a couple years to the point now where he says it's becoming risky to drive the vehicle because of the likelihood of catastrophic failure.
I'm in the right lane on exit 41 highway my car kept jerking then someone jumped in front of me as soon as I hit the breaks the breaks sent out and hit the lady who jumped in front of me and then there was something wrong w the wheel before then my car was leaking .
Takata recall? I bought this vehicle from my CO worker which stated these issues were already happening for months, firstly the cluster clusters instrument gages do not work (replaced them and nothing happens) , only the gage lights turn on. These include the gas gage, rpm, speedometer, temp. Which is another issue, the electrical issues even though you try to brighten the lights with the dim knob they are hardly brightened its hard to see the clock time or any thing that lights up to help see at night, the interior lights dont work, the horn doesnt work, cruise control doesnt work. As if all these are tied together thru the electrical wiring. (checked all fuses and replaced most) my wind shield leaks in the top corners, the trunk fills with water everyone it rains due to a leak. Defects in the sealing my rear view mirror fell off on my way to work today as well which caused the windshield to crack around where the mirror was. The hood latch is hard to close, I have to use pliers to push down the latch before shutting hood, (this is another part I replaced with the same factory part number) it looks to be the spring. Ball joints I am guessing. . . When barely turning the wheel either way you hear a grinding noise like metal against metal. Its a scary sound when making turns not sure if the wheel is you g to break off while making the turn a costly issue daily I have to add oil to the vehicle the oil pump gasket seal leaks every time the engine is running. Exterior issue the paint looks horrible due to the top clear coat peeling. Now after researching, I realize I'm not the only one who has these issues. Please get these issues fixed.

If any information please call me at my cellphone 818-791-5376.
I paid $1300 to replace a timing belt and a leaking water pump. The mechanic test drove it when the repairs were finished, only to discover a loud squeaking which revealed a rusted right front subframe that I have found, after some online research is fairly common and due to the placement of a drain tube that leaked water over this spot on the subframe for 20 years.
I have had my car for over a year and the car is chipping so bad. I am upset about this problem!!plus my dash lights stopped working and I have ran off the road several times. I have checked everything and I don't see the problem. Zhonda should have to fix these problems.
While driving on city streets and also on the highway I noticed a clanking noise coming from the right front wheel area of the car. Parked the car and pushed on the right side of the hood and could hear the noise. Took off the right front tire and noticed severe rust through of the frame that connects below the control arm. (2 photos attached) car is unsafe to drive and am getting estimates on repair cost.

Excessive corrosion and rust on the passenger side front sub frame. Technician says it's because the a/c drain tube. The drivers side has no corrosion at all! Honda changed this in 03+ models. Very expensive repair, this car has no body rust. This should've been a recall.
Heard clunking noise while turning. Figured it was a cv joint, took it to my very trusted mechanic. He confirmed the right joint was bad, and said that on the left joint, the boot was already off, and it is slinging grease everywhere. More disturbing, he also said that the front subframe is dangerously rusted out. He specifically mentioned that the "cradle", which holds up the front of the engine is almost completely rusted through. He said "you are one pot-hole away from total failure. . . The engine will fall to the ground. Do not drive it. " I looked online and saw that there is a recall for the same make/model/year, but my car falls outside of the covered dates. My vehicle was made in Dec 1997, and the recall only goes through Aug 1997. Quite frankly, given that the failure mode is exactly what is covered by the recall, I believe my car should be included in the recall. While I recognize that the car is old, the frame of a 98 model Accord shouldn't corrode and break in half, potentially leading to catastrophic results.
Body panel of the passengers is all scratched and their is cameras in my building complex and I told the owner to check them and he said it wasn't his problem and now I'm seeing more scratches and I told him again and he told me to park outside now not inside when I'm actually paying $50 for the parking every month.
Failed clear coat and faded paint were the first problems to occur with my silver Honda Accord. Next was the gas tank leak, where fumes and leaked gas could be smelled and seen on the ground when filling the tank more than half full. Finally my passenger side front subframe rear cross member rusted thru and now the car isn't safe to drive and won't pass inspection without major repairs to the frame. None of the rest of the under body is rusted, just that section. Not happy!.
Was driving vehicle (1998 Accord lx 4 cylinder) when a loud thump was heard from the front passenger side suspension. Put the vehicle up on ramps to inspect and the front subframe on the right side holding the sway bar was completely separated and rotted/rusted out. Prior visual inspection never showed the issue as the rusting was taking place from on top of the subframe. After some quick research this issue is a design flaw where the ac condenser empties directly above the subframe causing premature failure of the subframe. The vehicle only has 49,765 miles on it and the frame should not be failing in this magnitude.
Tl- the contact owns a 1998 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while at the dealer for a safety inspection, the technician stated that the front frame was corroded and the front passenger side axle shaft boost was fractured. As a result, the frame and axle needed to be replaced. The technician advised the contact that the vehicle should not be driven. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000. Pmb.
The front subframe of my 1998 Honda Accord lx has rusted through due to salt accumulation at only ~95k miles making it a safety hazard. This is the only rusting on the car, either than that spot the car is rust free.
The Accord models from 1998 to 2002 have been having a crucial rust problem. The sub- frame has been rotting out due to a misplaced air conditioning condensation drain. Honda claims that there are not enough complaints out this problem and that is coincidence that there are a rust problem. Here's the deal, all these cars have a major rust problem on the foundation of the car. Honda also, claimed that the a/c drain was not the problem for it. Well then tell me why all these cars have this problem only on the passengers side of the vehicle directly under the a/c drain. Honda needs to recalls this model because if that structure breaks on the road the passenger side wheel could come off or the rack of the power-steering could split and cause the driver to lose control of their car. . The contact owns a 1998 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the front passenger side sub frame was corroded due to the condensation from the air conditioning unit. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front section of the sub frame needed to be replaced. Sierra Honda of grandville located at 4260 kenowa Ave sw, grandville, mi 49418, was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
- the contact owns a 1998 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the trunk on the vehicle kept opening at any time. The vehicle was taken to the shop for repair; they found that the gist of the frame was broken. The current and failure mileage, and the dealer information wasn't available.
Accord automatic transmission 68,000 miles the date I listed was the date I took it to a body shop for repair. I believe I began noticing it at least a year before but didn't have money to do anything about it then. (on ssd) the roof, trunk, l panel r & l lens & housing, rear bumper had to be repainted/repaired. It started before that particular date. It began with white spots that started peeling and it spread like wildfire. Could not afford a new car and since the mileage was low and I need a car I decided to have it repaired. It runs good, but looked terrible!! the money I spent was an extreme burden on me. I am on a fixed low income. I read here that in '98 they changed the painting process. Now I discover many complaints witht same problem on newer years. They apparently started a faulty paint procedure and still use it and are ripping people off. I know cars, no garage, with no peeling, etc. Now less than a year later: there are white spots showing through where it was not painted, r front and rear panel!!!!! Honda should, at the very least reimburse for what I spent and fix the current problem at no charge. When I mentioned it to Honda they just said they didn't do that type of work. At the time I was not aware (but they probably were) that this is a widespread known problem!! anyway, Honda should be sued! . I've already had people thank me for telling them about this saying they won't buy a Honda!!.
Clear coat began peeling back in 2005 and I dealt with it until 2007 and had someone repaint the entire car for $900. 8 years later, the same issue is happening. Must be the metal that Honda used on their cars. It is very annoying to say the least. I see it on several Honda Accords from the same generation.
Hunter green paint failure on hood, roof, and trunk.
The clear coat on my black 1998 Honda Accord peeled off leaving the car looking like it has a skin disorder. The problem is most prevelant on the hood, roof and trunk, while the doors, bumpers and quarterpanels seem unaffected. The problem has persisted for years, and I had it also with a previous 1994 Accord. The paint just fails after 6 or 8 years--very disappointing performance.
Ongoing problem with paint and clear coat of vechicle.
1998 Honda Accord paint problem: manufacturer defect on the exterior paint causing it to crack underneath the coating layer.
There is a leak in the trunk area. When it is raining, water drips from the area near the rear speakers, onto the trunk floor. I first noticed this problem a few years ago, but it seems to have gotten worse recently (this may be due to the car no longer being parked in the garage).
Door and dashboard rattles. Mjs.
Moonroof rattles.
Sunvisor malfunctioned.
I have had a stroke. My leg is getting better and my legs are 34". I did't realize that the 1998 car does not have as much room as the19 89(my previos car). I would like NHTSA to approve modififying my car,so I can have enough room to drive. Thank you.
