1 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2020

Driving down the road at any speed the headlights dim every 10 to 15 seconds. Had the battery and alternator checked by a professional and both was good. Seen many complaints about the exact same issue with the exact same year make and model vehicle. This is not a new issue.

2 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

While driving, headlights in normal position dim to point of not being safe to see and then they flicker to being normal low beams again. This process occurrs at speeds from 0-70 and occurrs 2-3 times a minute. This also occurs when bright lights are on. Please pressure Honda to fix this very well known and ignored problem before someone is killed. What does it take? forums all over internet with same complains. Not isolated events !!!.

3 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2012

Over the course of 3000 miles I had to add an additional 5 quarts of oil and while driving the headlights dim intermittently.

4 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2010

We leased a new 2008 Honda Accord and after a few weeks noticed that the headlights flickered. This was very annoying and when we asked the local Honda dealer about it they gave us a document that states that it's normal. We didn't like that answer but there wasn't anything that we could do. 2 years later and still constantly having the headlights flicker at night my wife drove the car at night and the lights went out for approximately 10 seconds. We contacted the dealer and they took a look at it and said they didn't notice anything other than the normal flicker. Now my wife won't drive the car at night thinking this is gong to happen again and the dealer won't do anything about it.

5 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. The contact stated when the air conditioner was being used, the headlights would flicker from high to a lower level intensity. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where she was informed that the headlights was designed in that way and they were unable to do anything to the vehicle. The VIN was unavailable at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000. The current mileage was approximately 35,000.

6 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2009

1. No events led up to the issue. 2. Headlights dim/flicker when the a/c cycles on/off. The dimming occurs on average every 20-30 seconds. 3. No parts have been replaced to fix the issue. The Honda dealership says there is no fix.

7 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

I've noticed while driving at night that my headlights flicker every once in a while. Haven't established a pattern or frequency of occurrence, but it happens enough to notice. Oncoming cars think I'm flickering my headlights at them. I drive a 2008 Honda Accord ex-l.

8 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2009

I purchased a 2008 Accord ex-l with the 4 cylinder engine on 5/30/08. The headlights on this vehicle flicker or dim at night as ac or other fans cycle on & off. This is very distracting for me & must be for the other drivers that meet me on the road. I took it to the dealership twice in the past year and was told this is a normal characteristic caused by the electrical load detector (eld) system. They are not able or not willing to fix the problem. This could be a serious safely hazard. I wonder whether it is safe to drive a car that dims its headlights constantly. I do not understand why this cannot be resolved, and why Honda does not consider this a major problem. Should Honda be allowed to decide the dimming problem is normal?.

9 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2009

No accidents have occurred. However, my headlights flicker whenever I have my headlights on, about every couple of minutes. This happens each time I drive my car when the headlights are on.

10 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2009

Headlights frequently dim and then re-brighten, causing a noticeable flickering when driving at night. This is very distracting at night, even well lit roads. Honda has checked and says electrical system is operating normally and it may be, but some interface with the lights and the elp is incompatible if it causes such a noticeable flicker. We drove a Honda odyssey with same system for 100,000 miles and never noticed a headlight flicker.

11 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2009

I recently bought a 2008 Honda Accord ex. Every time the headlights come on while driving, they have a significant flicker and dim. I brought it to the dealers attention and he said it was normal. I've discussed with others that have a 2008 Accord and they notice the same thing. It is a very annoying feature that supposedly is part of an eld-electronic load detector on this model. I've had prior Accords without this problem. Hoping that Honda would do fix it. Thanks.

12 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2009

I purchased an Accord exl on 2/8/09. While driving with the defroster or air conditioning on, the exterior and interior lights flash approximately every 30 seconds. We took it to the dealership and were told this is a normal characteristic caused by eld system. They are not able or not willing to fix the problem. This a serious safely hazard, as I drive highly congested roads daily and do not feel safe driving a car that flashes its headlights constantly. Other cars do not know this is a normal characteristic. They will think I am an aggressive driver flashing them, and this could cause serious problems. I do not understand why this cannot be resolved, and why Honda does not consider this a major problem. There seem to be many complaints about this issue, and I am not aware of any other cars that have this problem. Please help us with this issue, as someone may end up seriously hurt due to this issue. You may contact me for my VIN but I do not wish to post this information online.

13 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2008

2008 Honda ex-l Accord coupe - during low light conditions (late evening/night) the headlights flicker every 10 -13 seconds. I constantly see other drivers gesturing at me as if I'm flicking my hi-beams at them. Honda says that this is normal and says there is no fix . This is the first new car I've owned that has this problem. The battery is a little bigger than a motorcycle battery. This condition I believe is dangerous to on-coming traffic. This could also lead to failures of various other electronic control systems due to the fluctuating power spikes which could lead to devastating consequences while on the highway or freeway.

14 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

2008 Honda Accord exl coupe. The headlights dim slightly about every minute. It does not matter if I have air/heat/radio on - it does not seem to matter what speed/rpm I am traveling. I have not taken it to the dealer - from reading online, Honda has been telling everyone this is a "feature" of the car.

15 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2008

Some sort of electrical problem is occurring and causes the headlights to dim and fluctuate erratically. The sound in the stereo also gets lower often times and I wonder if this ties into the headlights problem. I feel unsafe driving the vehicle because it is a distraction and causes me to check my instrument panel and I really expect a vehicle to opperate properly after spending so much money on it.

16 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2008

I purchased a 2008 Honda Accord 4 cylinder in 12/07 and have a problem, with the headlights blinking every 15-20 seconds when the cooling fans click on. This is a significant blinking and someone could mistake me for "signaling" them. It has done it since new.

17 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2008

Intermittent headlight flicker on 4 cylinder Honda Accord 2008. Oncoming drivers appear to interpret this as my trying to "signal" them. Drivers that I follow also seem to think the same thing. I have noticed this in normal city and highway driving. I am very concerned that it will eventually lead to an accident if anyone misinterprets the flickering (which is very noticeable).

18 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2008

I only have about 1,500 miles on my new Accord and I've noticed that the headlights and interior lights blink each time the air conditioning compressor kicks in, about every 20-30 seconds. I've been in contact with the dealer several times, they said "its normal". This is a safety issue, because it is distracting to both myself and other drivers. Also, other drivers think that I am flashing my lights at them.

19 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2008

My 2008 Accords consistently flash/dim every 30 seconds when the auto climate control mode is on. This is a safety issue when driving on a dark road at night as one's eyes naturally look away from the road for about a second-- enough time to be dangerous. I complained to the dealer and they said all vehicles do this. I have never heard of any vehicle doing this. I asked when the service bulletin would be coming out, assuming there is one in the works given the widespread issue, but the service writer ignored my comment. I had to literally demand that the dealer write my complaint on the repair order, and at the end, with my repair order, the clerk handed me an article trying to explain away the issue or pacify me. (it was a Honda article, which looked like it was from a repair manual or brochure, which stated that basically, if the customer complained to tell them its normal. ) in "auto" climate mode, the air conditioning compressor/fan kicks on every 30 seconds (even in the middle of winter) and the lights seem to flash at that time. Also, the steering pump makes a very loud whining/moaning noise at 1500-2000 rpms, and the steering in the vehicle has a shuttling/slipping sensation in the steering wheel upon turning. The dealer confirmed the steering issue and has ordered a new power steering pump which will hopefully remedy the issue. Finally, the driver's door handle, interior and exterior, does not open the door on occasion. This is also a safety issue as being able to exit the vehicle in emergency is critical. For such a highly touted vehicle manufacturer, Honda needs to work on fixing problems with their cars on the road and finding a resolution, not just their reputation and/or their bottom line. Also, Honda needs to instruct its dealers to take its customer's complaint's seriously, not simply attempt to diminish the complaint (I. E. Headlights flashing) because it is a widespread issue. I am disappointed with Honda's handling of the defects.

20 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2008

The headlights on my 2008 Honda Accord sedan ex-l 4 cylinder flickers when a/c or heater are hold. Headlights are also too dim. It is a safely hazard to other people, oncoming cars sometimes think im highbeaming them when my lights flicker.

21 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. Whenever the headlights are activated, they suddenly dim every 15-17 seconds before returning to normal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the headlights were supposed to function in that manner. The failure has occurred ever since the vehicle was purchased. The current and failure mileages were 400.

22 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2008

Headlights on 2008 Honda Accord flicker and dim when driving at night. This happens approximately every 20 seconds. It is very distracting and is a safety issue.

23 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2008

I just purchased a 2008 Honda Accord sedan. It is ex-l, 4 cyl. Auto. We have noted that the headlights would dim periodically by itself and then return to normal. This problems occurs at least when the fan starts to work, and the dimming is quite noticeable. It is very disturbing when driving in the night, and very dangerous when the light changes on the highway. The ac becomes less effective when this happens. I also worry that this frequent dimming will damage the electronic system. I have driven other cars including Hondas, but never had similar problems.

24 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

Headlights flicker when auto climate control is engaged. Other drivers might think you are driving aggressively. This is very distracting on dark roads and dangerous.

25 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2008

Headlights drastically dim when air conditioner or defroster is turned on. Both bright and dims dim down and come back up, like you are flashing your headlights. This happens every 20 to 30 seconds, as the compressor cycles on and off. Very hard to see at night when lights dim down. Honda claims this is normal electronic load detector operation. Problem is potentially dangerous, especially in rural areas. Many complaints pertaining to this issue have already been made. I will not drive the car at night if air conditioner or defroster is needed.

26 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

Headlights blink out briefly while driving at night. This is a continuing problem not a singular incident.

27 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2008

While driving at night time the headlights flicker 1 to 2 times per minute. If the a/c unit or heater/defroster are on it occurs 2 to 3 times per minute. Twice while driving with the defroster and windshield wipers on. The headlights stayed dim for 2 to 3 seconds. I took the car to the Honda dealer were I purchased it. They said they already had other vehicles with this problem and there was no fix. I returned one month later, the service manager gave me the Honda 800# and told me to call Honda motor corp. The answer I get there is no recall.

28 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2008

I bought a brand new 2008 Honda Accord with a 4 cylinder engine. When the air conditioner kicks on and the headlights are on there is a noticeable and quick dimming almost flashing of the headlights and taillights. It is bright enough to seem as though I am flickering my head lights to the person in front of me on the highway and this is a serious safety hazard. I contacted Honda both the dealership and a regional representative and was told this is "normal" and "within specs". I am not alone with this problem as I have found many others with the same problem and they were all told the same from Honda representatives. I have owned over 50 cars in my lifetime and flickering lights, let alone on a brand new $27000 care should never be considered "normal. " thank you for your time and I appreciate any feedback you would be able to provide. Sincerely, john kalapodis.

29 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2008

2008 Honda Accord ex-l 4cyl auto. Headlights dim whenever a/c cycles. Cars at night sometimes think that I am flashing my lights at them.

30 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2008

Purchased a 2008 Honda Accord June 29,2008. Finally got a chance to drive the vehicle for a period of time with the headlight on last night and noticed that the headlights keep dimming momentarily as the a/c or fan cycles about every 20-30 seconds. Two issues that I have is that Honda is aware of the issues as every 2008 Accord does the same thing. It is rather noticeable and very distracting not only to the driver but no doubt to other drivers that think I may be flashing my lights at them.

31 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2008

Headlights on the 2008 Honda Accord briefly dim/flicker every 18 seconds whenever the air conditioning is in use.

32 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2008

On all 2008 Accord ex-l 4 cylinder models, the exterior lights (most noticeable on headlights) momentarily dim (flicker) whenever the a/c compressor cycles on. This seems to be caused by the current draw of the two engine cooling fans. According to Honda, this behavior is "normal" and is controlled by the eld (electronic load detector). In my opinion, this continual and noticeable change in headlight intensity is extremely distracting to me (as the driver). I have no idea how these flickers might be interpreted by oncoming traffic. I have owned many cars in the last 35 years and none has ever exhibited this extremely annoying and potentially dangerous characteristic.

33 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2008

I purchased a 2008 Honda Accord last week, and drove it at night for the first time today. When the a/c cycles on, the headlights dim momentarily causing a distraction every 20 seconds. This occurs at all speeds, and with low beams used only. Oncoming cars are thinking that I am flashing them as well!.

34 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2008

Head and taillights dim every 20-30 seconds when a/c is running. This dimming mimics the flashing of your headlights that is the national signal to a semi truck driver that they have cleared your car and it's o. K . To proceed into your lane after passing you. This situation is an accident waiting to happen. It also could easily result in a road rage incident from a driver in front or behind you that thinks you are either flashing headlights or tapping the brakes. I have had the car back to the dealer twice for repair but they are not authorized to even attempt a fix as Honda says that this is normal. I contacted Honda corp in California and the case manager basically stated that this is normal and case closed. I have recently been told by service manager that Honda is looking into the headlight issue and it has been put into extreme engineering(whatever that means). They said however that this is no guarantee that a fix will come. What is it going to take for you to put pressure on Honda to fix this and to stop selling these cars until they fix this? does someone need to die first is that your criteria. Your whole purpose is to serve and protect the public. Please do what is right.

35 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. Whenever the contact is driving at any speed, the air conditioner activates and the headlights flash on and off and then dim. The dealer stated that there were no failures listed regarding the headlights. The current mileage was 5,200 and failure mileage was 5,000. Update 09/10/08 the consumer stated the headlights go dim when the air condition comes on. Updated 09/17/08.
