general problems of the 2013 Honda Accord - part 1

I was parking and my passenger side shaft broke.

Starter grind and not starting.

Vsa modulator on Honda has failed. This is a defective part but Honda has not recalled. This is a vital safety issue and can cause brakes to lock. Honda refuses to acknowledge defect and will not replace the part free of charge.

The vehicle has a recall for drive axile still showing status as pending, we took the car to the dealer to check on that and also complained about noise during acceleration. On inspection the dealer at valley Honda, naperville found that the drive axile is the problem. But they said it has nothing to do with the recall, it is because someone else tried to repair it. I was told it is very unsafe to drive. Still we drove it back home, I inspected the axile I could notice so must rust on the axiles and in the shaft, that they can't claim ithe rust is because of the othet repairs performed!. There was also visible fluid leak coming out of the boot area of the axile, because of the rust. The dealership is. Just trying to avoid the axile repair and citing other repairs performed as an invalid reason. Please help soon.

All lights related to tire pressure, sterring control, vehicle stability assist and abs comes up in dash board. The abs control module suddenly fails because of very bad design and manufacturing (just dry solderings!). Search ebay, one can find so many offering services to repair this failed abs control module. For replacement ot costs 3500. This looks like is common failure. Very dangerous to drive with that failed abs control module. Why is this not in a recall yet?.

Vsa modulator failed at 106 thousand miles, replaced at dealer and it failed again after 15 thousand miles. Honda did not take any responsibility as the milage had exceeded the 12k miles warranty. They charged an additional $4,000 to repair.

In the past 2–3 months, multiple door lock actuators/latches on my 2013 Honda Accord have failed. Both rear doors will not reliably lock or unlock, and the front driver door actuator is intermittent. This means that three of the four doors cannot be secured or opened normally. This is a serious safety and security issue. The car cannot be locked to prevent theft or unauthorized entry. Children or passengers in the rear may not be able to exit safely in an emergency. I am also concerned that the failure could compromise crash safety if doors cannot be unlocked quickly after a collision. Performance kings Honda (cincinnati, OH) inspected the vehicle, confirmed the failures, and diagnosed both rear door latch/actuator assemblies as faulty. They provided an estimate of $1,000+ for repairs. I have an open case with american Honda. Honda acknowledges there is no recall, but this appears to be a systemic defect rather than normal wear, since multiple actuators have failed simultaneously. There were no warning lights or messages. The issue developed gradually, starting with difficulty locking/unlocking one door, followed by failure of the others. The vehicle remains available for inspection at the Honda dealership.

I purchased this car earlier in the year with very low mileage. Car belonged to one owner and well taken care of. Driving home from work 2 hr drive several days felt something was off shimmy noise. Got home noticed rims & tires were damaged. Purchased new tires & rims 8/18/25 $1387. 43 from tire rack online. Car bought several months earlier with low mileage. Car stayed in driveway until delivery of tires on 8/21 took to mr. Tire in hammonton NJ to mount rims tires. He called that the driveshaft and parts fell apart in his hands. A several hundred dollar job turned into three days costing $1409. 64. Several weeks later I received the Honda recall for the exact parts I had repaired. I sent the invoice from mr. Tire, along with the tire rack invoice & told to get the car inspected by a Honda dealer. 11/1 boardwalk Honda inspected and was approved by Honda for reimbursement. I emailed to ask how much was being reimbursed. No response. I called in January and was told $670 was approved. Wheel hub, axle assembly and ab sensor. All part of drive shaft failure from my research. Also tires and rims get damaged as well. I asked for something in writing. Was told they do not do that. I called on 2/12/26 and several weeks ago and both times told me it would be sent to a care specialist for expediting since it has been months since approval. Well, never a response from anyone. It is now 5 months on 3/1 that repairs were approved and still no check. This is totally unacceptable. They have a duty to make repairs at no cost or to reimburse if repairs were made and paid for the by the owner. I’d really like to get all of what I am out of pocket. I mean the entire mr. Tire invoice should be reimbursed. Had I been driving when the parts fell apart I would be dead as I drive the NJ turnpike and garden state parkway 2 hours each way.

The starter in our 2013 Honda Accord exl, has got repaired then about three weeks later had to get repaired again, now three more weeks later is having problems again. I looked online and a lot of people are having starter problems in their Honda Accord 2013 exl, we can’t keep changing the starter it’s a lot of money.

This year model and make had a recall due to abs modulator malfunction. At the time said my car was one that was not a recall, which is strange because I have the same make and model and I took my car into the Honda place for oil change back in 2024 and the abs modulator went out. The dealership told me that was a recall on this vehicle before for the same situation. I did contact the Honda corporation explain the situation advised me that my car was not on recall for that. I have always taken my car to dealership for any maintenance work, so strange to me that same thing you can a recall on my car has that problem, but not on recall. Which is now going to cost me thousands of dollars to get fix, for something that was on recall for same year of my car and make and model.

The abs module failure has caused all my dash boards lights to remain on making the lan assist and calibration impossible to complete. This needs to be investigated for all Honda Accords from 2012 - 2018. I have had several mechanics say this should be recalled due to its occurrence. The other issue is the timing belt slips without any wrecks due to being poorly built.

All the lights on my dash came on associated with the abs module fail. . It also affected my alternator as I believe the car is working to hard. The barks are weird the car drives sluggish. My lights cone on and off. . When they are off the car drives just fine. Many Accords have this issue and no parts can be found. Something is not right.

The abs module on these Accords go bad prematurely, causing many lights on the dash board to come on. It happened to my step father in his 2014 Accord unfortunately causing him to total his car due to the breaks locking up in the rain and now my car has the same problem. There are even forums about this issue and Honda definitely needs to issue a recall and fix this issue.

Lost ability to steer vehicle. It was impossible to steer the car. The car was running on and in one instance moving at low sped in my own driveway. There have been 3 instances when this happens. The problem went away after turning the car off and restarting the vehicle. 2) the starter won’t start on occasion as it takes multiple attempts to start vehicle. 3) I had to replace the starter and also a sensor forward collision sensor so the entire dashboard display for every light would turn off. Literally, every light on the dashboard turns on, even for low tire pressure. The bidders concern from operation perspective is the steering. There’s no doubt in my mind that this is a critical and serious defect with this make and model of the 2013 Honda Accord. I looked online and there are literally thousands of reports of the same issue. There are complaints of uncontrollable steering too. One gentleman did a youtube video demonstrating what’s happening. I will do the same for the steering in this vehicle the next time it happens. Why hasn’t the NHTSA issued a mandatory recall and forced Honda to make this recall happen now. I hope this isn’t a political decision because I know lives are in serious jeopardy with this loss of ability to steer the vehicle with no warning. Lastly, I’ve bought and owned 5 Honda in my lifetime: 3 Honda Accords, 1 odyssey and 1 pilot and I’ve never needs to file a complaint in the past as they’ve always been a reliable, safe vehicle. I’m extremely concerned about this problem and I urge NHTSA and Honda to do the right thing and issue an immediate recall to remedy this issue. You are now aware of this issue in a formal complaint and it appears that there are already several thousand complaints based on what’s online. Please take action.

The passenger side window stop and starts and when it gets to full close, it opens back up on its own a few inches. For another Honda Accord that I own if the same year, the passenger window does not go up/down from the drivers side.

For a couple of months, my Honda Accord 2013 ex 4-cylinder engine has had a sporadic inability to start the vehicle. There are times I had to press the start button several times (2-6 times) and once it starts the car runs smoothly. The vehicle's mileage was 84,000 when it started having the starter problem. I replaced the battery with a new one assuming it was the battery but the sporadic inability to start the vehicle remained the same.

I got off work and went to car and open the door and it was smoke everywhere the electricity problem occurred between the radio dash and the middle car components everything is burned and melted through in the middle and I have sent in pictures to the car max claims to investigate.

Abs modulator failed, cannot pass inspection. Dashboard lights are all on. This is a safety issue.

All dash lights come on. Fcw system failure. Abs/vsa module failed is what me and a lot of other people with the same car, have the same issues. Abs brake module to replace is $1100 and on backorder and alot of people can't drive there cars, some have had issues that almost caused accidents, mine seems to run fine for now, just started happening. Honda needs to do something about this, way to many people have this problem and Honda should be way more reliable and helpful for this common failure.

All the lights came on, on the dash board. Further research I found out the abs module went out. Could hear noise when braking, abs brakes not catching. No one has one since so many other Honda Accords are having the same issue. Found one at a dealership for $2000 but can't afford that part plus labor. It's been over a month and still looking.

The trunk will not close properly. It appears as if the trunk itself is not even. There is a gap on the side that is larger than the area on the left side. Almost as if the trunk was pulled from another vehicle that wasn't quite the same model. The trunk latch does not close on the first try nor the second or third. Now its not closing at all. Just bought the vehicle Feb. 28, 2023 and already having issues. It was sporadic now it wont close at all.

I get a light that comes on my dash board that says “failed fcw system”. . Most of the time it is on. Rarely it will go off the screen. Sometimes my car will randomly beep to signal that something is infront of me when there is nothing infront of me, which is what I believe to be an issue with the fcw system. This is startling and distracting to me while driving, as it is supposed to signal and keep me safe from potentially hitting objects infront of me, but it has proven itself unreliable for what its purpose is. Also with the “failed fcw system” message on the dash, it has my other lights signaled such as the air pressure light for my tires as well as the oil light so I never know when my tires actually need air, etc….

No warning lights displayed on dashboard. Steering wheel began turning right by itself sitting in the driveway in park . I turned it back to the straight position only to have it turn again one half or more rotation. Took it to a parking lot ( flat area) it went in a circle by itself. I could stop it with some effort. While driving straight it kept pulling me right hard, not like a crowned road would do! the vehicle was bought new and only has 76,000 miles.

Their is an issue when trying to start the vehicle. When the ignition button is pressed, the engine does not start. Instead, their is a grinding and whirring sound. I believe this is coming from the starter. It takes 3-4 attempts to start the car. Their are numerous complaints on many forums about this issue.

The paint is peeling on my 2013 Honda Accord. This seems to be an ongoing issue with the white orchid paint.

My vehicle trunk randomly unlatches and opens. The trunk does both while driving and when parked. The key fob button to open the trunk is not pressed or in range during these incidents. This is a safety concern in that if can block my rearward view. It is also an inconvenience since it can lead to theft of contents and the car.

Bought the car in 2013, and around 2015 it started having intermittent problems starting the car. After about 5-6 tries it would start normally and everything would be fine for couple of months. This went on all the way up to this year 2022. At least 6 different times of having my car inspected for this, they could not determine a cause. Come today, it won't start again, and after numerous times it won't start at all. After reading through many numerous owners having the same issues on Accord forums, reddit and youtube, the obvious cause is the starter is prone to failure. I am now trying to figure out a way to have my car towed to the dealer and dreading the cost of replacement for the starter including labor costs (when I've done everything pro-active to try to find the cause of this issue). I am sure I am not covered under any equipment warranty for this (but I sure was when I first reported this to them from 2015-2022.

When pulling into my driveway, the dash lights suddenly all turned on, and the engine started racing causing the car to crash into my house.

For several years, the starter has been work sporadically. This started in 2014. It has progressively gotten worse. I cant count on the car to start.

Different door lock actuators have been replaced multiple times since original ownership in 2012. Power lock suddenly does not actuate with remote nor driver side control. Only physical actuation of lock engages or disengages lock.

Car is just randoming not starting, having to get it jumped to start it & pistons are knocking!.

My 2013 Accord sport suddenly veered left on it's own and I hit a telephone pole breaking it in half. The air bags did not deploy. The car is a total loss and I am injured. I was driving in a straight line when this happened.

I have not owned the car in question since may 2016 after this car was totaled in an accident and I keep getting calls from Honda of pasadena (pasadena, CA). The process on the NHTSA website says that the manufacturer contacts car owners to notify them of safety recalls correct? are dealers allowed to use my personal phone number/data to solicit me for these repairs multiple times like this? I mean, the notification from the manufacturer appears to be enough; this will allow the customer to choose the dealership on their own. The practice of the dealership reaching out to me is more like an unethical practice to bait customers into getting repair money from the manufacturer. This is in fact baiting. Please help and respond as soon as possible.

When I push the start button it doesn't always start - get a grinding noise.
