36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

The contact's son owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that upon depression of the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would intermittently shake without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer on multiple occasions; however, the failure persisted. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 20v769000 (power train) which she linked to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

My daughters 2013 Honda Accord v6 had a stutter upon acceleration. After researching the issue, the transmission was flushed 4 times. This is a common problem with these new transmissions Honda put in the 2013. A few days ago the side wall of the side mission exploded. Chunks of metal was found on the ground and it smelled like it might catch on fire.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2020

1. There is hesitation when accelerating and the shifts are hard and jolting 2. The downshifting coming from highway speeds is terrifying. Hard, jolting shifts that happen way too early and way too close together. It makes it like the car is stalling causing a serious safety hazard. A lot of people have this issue with this model and there really needs to be a recall or a tuning software update that fixes this.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

The engine and transmission have class 1 leaks gasket area. To be more specific, leaks found on engine head gasket and transmission housing area.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2020

I was driving my car in a residential neighborhood. The dash on the car displayed a "start stop" error. Then, there was much less horsepower. I am guessing there was between 10 and 20 horse power. The car could barely go 20 miles per hour. Then, the dash said, stop the car. Your car is over heating. So, I pulled to the side of the street and stopped the car. I was lucky that I was on a residential side street. Where I live, some sections of freeway are 12 and 16 lanes wide. If I had lost power in this situation, I don't think I could have made it to the side of the road safely. The water pump on my model car was part of a safety recall. Audi claims that they have fixed the problem with the design before my car was manufactured. However, the water pump on my car only lasted for 49,000 miles. I suspect that the re-design of the water pump is still not adequate. Please investigate the issue with our water pump.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the starter would intermittently grind preventing the vehicle from starting. The contact stated he would let the vehicle sit for a couple minutes before the vehicle was started. Several attempts were made while starting the vehicle. The contact contacted the dealer kelly Honda (540 lynnway, lynn, MA 01905; (781) 595-5252) who informed the contact of service bulletin 16-002. The vehicle had not been diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2019

When pushing start button the engine would make a grinding screeching noise. At 34,000 miles starter was replaced. Now at 70,000 miles same noise is coming again from engine. Seems to be a common issue with v6 models. There is a service bulletin 16-002 for this issue however after addressing the issue once already it seems to be a reoccurring issue.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2019

Rear wheel bearings deteriorated, causing loud noises from the rear at speeds as low as 10 miles per hour. Had to be replaced on both sides.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

Upon start up, all the lights on the dashboard lit up. Fcw failure noted on the digital display. Acceleration non existent in this state. Several restarts (34 was the max), no lights on the dash. Car ran fine. Dealer diagnosed it as a timing chain that had expanded. Seems to be fixed. (only been two days). I think it is a major safety issue because the lack of power could manifest itself at any time. Imagine getting on a highway with no power to accelerate.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2018

Two nights ago I was driving on I-75 back home from work , I was going speed limit 70-75 mph and the car suddenly started "bogging down", didn't want to go above 30 mph and a number of dash lights were service engine, power steering, tire pressure and maybe traction control. I turn off the car, turn it back on, and the lights still on. I drive short distance home at 25-30 mph. the following morning I looked at the car, didn't see anything wrong I felted very unsafe from car suddenly slow in the middle of hwy I-75 going from 70-75 mph to 25-30 mph, this happened with out any warning or enough time to pull over the shoulder, definitely a bad accident would happened here.

46 Power Train problem

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

Car in the morning hesitates just pulling out of its parking space. Put the car in reverse and it won't move. Put it in drive and same issue. It seems as if it's trying to warm up maybe? when it does start moving, it runs at 5-10 mph at 3k rpms. I let it roll slowly and after a few minutes it starts to drive normal. Going uphill, I experience a similar issue where the car is running at very high rpms at low speeds. I get the effect in eco and in s mode. It doesn't seem to matter. Car is a 2013 has about 42k miles and started to experience this issue about 4-5k miles ago. I just assumed it was because the car wasn't warm enough or because its a 4 cylinder. Looking further into this noted that this seems to be a common issue with Honda's cvt.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

"tamar a inflators" my car has a huge click after backing up after stopping and putting into gear sounds like the linkage has just broke. Makes a big loud click when putting into drive. Like the transmission is about to break off. Please help.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2016

Two weeks ago, my steering wheel pulled left quickly and then back. I thought I hit a rock. In the past two weeks same issue. Yesterday, pulled out of the garage and the steering wheel indicator light came on. Read the book. Restarted the engine. It went away. Today, after driving about 5 minutes indicator light came on again. Steering wheel froze. Restarted and ok. Driving on major highway, indicator light came on and all steering was frozen. I am traveling, therefore had to find the closest Honda dealer. I am now stranded for two days awaiting repair. I'm 8 hours from home, and now suspicious and worried whether I will return home safely. After reading some entries, I too had slow movements since I have owned this vehicle -- thought is was the new cvs engine.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2016

I am the original owner of a 2013 Honda Accord, ex-l,. My Honda has 42k miles. At about 25k miles my Accord started to make a very obvious and disturbing droning/humming noise at speeds above 40 mph. The noise became progressively louder as time went by. I brought the car to my local Honda dealer 2 times and asked them to fix the problem, to no avail. After having new tires installed at 42k miles, and the droning noise was still occurring, I brought the car to my local Honda dealer a third time and they diagnosed the noise problem as coming from a defective front right wheel bearing and a defective rear left wheel bearing. Both wheel bearings were replaced on July 27, 2016 and the droning noise above 40 mph is gone. Replacing the wheel bearings fixed the problem! the service advisor at the dealer was not able to explain why the wheel bearings failed, and he stated that the technicians at the dealership did not know why/how the bearings failed either. I contacted Honda America hq on August 1, 800-999-1009, and was told that Honda America would not disclose the details of the bearing failures. They also declined my request to authorize the replacement of the remaining 2 wheel bearings. Honda America established a case number for my issue, case # 04884545. Due to the lack of transparency from Honda America as to the cause/resolution of the wheel bearing failures, I am concerned that the underlying bearing or wheel structure problem has not been corrected, and that my 2013 Honda Accord will be subjected to future wheel bearing failures.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2016

I parked my car in our home garage after driving 15-20 miles. An hour later, when I tried to take the car out, at ignition it just refused to start. I got many dashboard chattering indicators on but no engine cranking. Tried couple of times but same results. Checked head lights and found them bright and ok indicating no possible battery issue. Then I jump started from our other car parked next to it. It started almost immediately. But the dashboard indicators remained 'on'. I used vehicle setting menu and selected factory default reset. But the indicators remained 'on'. I took the car for a short drive. As soon as I drove some 15-20 feet, the indicators went off. I drove for some time and tried to stop the engine and restart it couple times without any problems. In my case, I was fortunate to have this happened at home garage and not middle of the road. But when I tried to research online about this problem, I found many such similar complaints and some of them were indicating possible 'bad' starter issue which required $800-1000 for the replacement and repairs. My car is around 18 months old with clean records of regular maintenance. The car has logged around 32,400 miles and maintained with care. As a concerned owner, after reading those online complaints and reports, I thought of sharing my issue here and record it too. I see there are enough similar complaints to arrive at there could be a faulty component (may be starter or something else, I am not an expert) which might need attention and possible recall repairs by the manufacturer.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2016

I have a 2013 Honda Accord sport that is only 2. 5 years old with 40,318 miles. The vehicle kept hesitating to start for about a week. I would play with key and then it would start. On Sunday, I stopped vehicle to put gas. Then it didn't start. I brought battery to auto zone and it was fine. I called Honda road hazard to have towed to Honda dealership. They put on diagnostic and it was a bad starter. The 36,000 mile warranty ended. The repair was not covered. The parts and labor were $896. 34 to fix. I still haven't received bill for tow that wasn't covered. This should be a recall with multiple other complaints for this same repair. This is practically a new car with thirty more car payments. Honda used to be reliable. At least it killed in a gas station with people. I could have been stranded in dark parking lot. It was late in afternoon and the tow took over 45 minutes to arrive. A new car should start.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2016

A few months ago, my 2013 Honda Accord sport with 42k miles became hesitant to start. A turn of the key and I just heard clicks , after 3-5 tries it usually started on up. The problem progressed, yet I continued to "make due", I started putting the car in neutral to start it, and even had to be jumped off a few times. Eventually in early February my battery went bad, and I purchased a new one. On March 12,2016 my car refused to start. I had to have it towed to the dealership I purchased the car from - in 2013 with 18 miles on it. . . On 3/14/16 I was just informed that my starter is bad. To replace the starter it will be $850. . . . Not including the diagnostic fee of $110 and the towing cost of $80, all because this doesn't fall under the 3/36k warranty that is standard with Honda. Seems like a ridiculous price to pay, especially after seeing the other complaint on this site of other Honda owners with the same issue. I personally feel this should be a recall on Hondas part. 2013 was the first year they made the Honda Accord sport edition ( I was told at the dealership), obviously something went awry at the factory. When I called the dealership to explain my problem, I gave the year, make, and model of my car. The technician that answered the phone replied with "OH, yes MA'am, I just spoke with you 10 minutes agoi?" it was the first time I had called. That tells me there are other 2013 Honda Accord sport owners experiencing the same problem. Make it right Honda!!.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2015

In November 2015 and again in January 2016 I was slowing down to move into a parking space (once in a parking lot and another on a side street) when my car had a sudden jolt of power. Fortunately, because I was going at a slower speed I was able to immediately hit the brake and come to a stop, but both times it was within inches of hitting the vehicle in front of me. The jolt was sudden and is not the same surge of power one feels if you step heavy on the gas pedal.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

For over a week my 2013 Honda sport had difficulty starting. I was thinking this was due to the cold weather and in speaking with my cousin who has same vehicle he said his did the same and it was the new technology with the cvt. So I felt ok until Wednesday January 14th I went to leave work and my car would not turn over. I had 2 people try and jump me nothing. I had to have my car towed to brown's Honda in charlottesville, va. The next day I got a call saying that my starter had gone and I would have to pay $879 to replace it. The part alone was $430 give or take. I did not have that kinda of money for I had to have my car towed to a local dealership in my town and the guy found used part of a 2013 Honda that had been in an accident. Took him all of an hour to put it on. Charged $50 for labor and part was have the price. He showed me that part that he returned to me and said it was defected. He even wrote a letter to Honda on my behalf as well. This is just ridiculous my car has yet to even see it's 3rd birthday! also my backup camera tends to go out as well. Like when a tv messes up and gets static.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2014

During low speed driving (approximately 30-40 mph) and squeaking noise was emiitting from the right rear tire. Prior to this, the power steering warning light, anti lock brake warning light, anti skid warning light, all illuminated. When the car was diagnosed at dch Honda, temecula it was reported that the right rear wheel bearing was broken / falling apart. It was stated by the mechanic that the car would not be safe to drive until the bearing was replaced and that this was covered under the powertrain warranty. However, there was no previous notification (technical bulletins, recalls) on this issue. Drivers beware. The mechanic informed me that there was significant "play" in the rear wheel while attached to the hub. If the bearing came completely undone, the wheel could come off while driving.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

I bought my 2013 Accord sport new. Almost immediately I noticed that after I start it and put it in drive, it would not go anywhere. Slight press of the acceleration pedal and slowly it would move forward, however within approximately a minute the acceleration pedal press and the vehicle moving would work as they should. Since I only considered this an inconvenience, even though this is not " normal", I ignored the issue. In mid 2014, while driving on the freeway, in los angeles, the vehicle's electrical system and the dashboard went completely out, only to flicker back to life within the next two seconds. A few months after, with no warning and for no apparent reason, while I attempted to start the vehicle, I discovered it to be completely dead. No clicks, no flickering lights. I replaced the battery at about 25k miles. Over the next year, the sudden electrical short, where the dashboard electronics and everything electrical on the car would turn off suddenly, continued. Every two months on average I would experience an episode, some while driving, some when I was stationary, with the engine running for couple of minutes. Beginning of 2016, I attempted to start the vehicle, again no sign of life, out of the blue. I jump started it, had it checked, no apparent problems or issues with the battery. End of March 2016, same problem. I went to start the vehicle, it turned the dashboard lights on, then it died. . . No clicks, no lights flickering. I had it checked by a mechanic, could not find anything wrong with it. I don't know what to do. I liked what Honda used to represent, I am not sure anymore about its reliability.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

Initially car drove fine and I didn’t have problems. Over the last three months I started experiencing hesitation in the acceleration. Sometimes while trying to accelerate from a standstill position I have to depress the accelerator all the way down to board for several seconds before the car would move. The hesitation may last approx 5 to 8 seconds & then jerkingly the car would get into proper gear to move forward. The dealership changed a kit on it a least twice which initially seemed to have corrected the problem but after about a week or two the same problem keeps recurring. On June 14th, just before merging on the highway, going at about 40mph & car suddenly began a quick forward jerking motion & not go above 40mph. When accelerator was released the jerking motion would decline as speed declined. This continued for about 10 minutes to the dealership. After speaking with the service advisor we went out on the road but the problem never manifested itself. They’ve kept the car to try and figure out what’s going on. Meanwhile I am car-less. The car is no older than 16 months and I’ve been back and forth to the dealer several times already since April and they keep saying, “it’s normal” or “nothing happens when they drive or hook it up to their computers” or “we can’t diagnose or fix a problem that isn’t happening when we drive the car”. The supervisor further stated that even if someone from Honda headquarters came they would say the same thing if nothing happened and would give the key back to them because they cannot fix a problem that doesn’t manifest. I am not alone with this problem. Honda need to fix it. Honda knows this problem is happening with the insertion of the cvt transmission on their 2013 Accord. What are they doing to fix it? this is my very first Honda experience and I’m totally dissatisfied… ¿.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

In general I like my Accord 2013; however, I have been noticing hesitation and/or abrupt downshift of gear when I drive below 25 miles. I was searching for this issue, found numerous other people has the same problem. Shame on Honda for not fixing this issue. I just recommended two of my relatives to buy Toyota, they are quick at recall.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2014

Brought the car in couple months ago because of vibrating problem. Dealer check and said that it was normal. However, it was not normal as I know my car. Now, with the routines check I noted that the oil is leaking between cylinder head and cylinder block where the engine gasket is.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2014

When you come to a rolling stop then press on the accelerator there is a 2-3 second delay before it will accelerate. The service adviser says this is common in all 2013 Accords. The problem is intermittent.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2014

After stopping at a traffic light or sign, accelerating from the stop results in a sudden jolt (jerk) forward. When the light turns green or it's your turn to go, slowly pressing on the accelerator does not cause the car to move. Instinctually you press a little more. As this is occurring, the rpm will steadily increase, but again no forward movement occurs. At some point, typically around 2500-3000 rpm's, the transmission grabs (kicks-in) and suddenly hurls you forward. The jolt can be so severe that you temporarily lose control of the car. I owned the car 8 months before this problem started occuring. Now it occurs once or twice a day. The Honda dealer says that this is normal. This cannot be normal - it is unsafe.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

As my vehicle was accelerating onto a highway on-ramp, I lost almost all power to my vehicle, and it became more difficult to steer. The check engine light came on, the electric power steering light came on, the traction control light came on, and my tire warning light started flashing. Was barely able to make it into the emergency lane, and probably would have been rear-ended had a car been following close behind. Once in the emergency lane, a burning odor could be smelled by all 4 passengers in the car. There was nothing wrong with my tires. Car had to be towed to dealership for repairs which are pending. This vehicle has the new "cvt" transmission, and I suspect this may be part of the problem. This should not be happening in a brand new car, this is a safety issue for sure.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

2013 Honda Accord. Consumer writes in regards to potential transmission defect. The consumer stated the vehicle has defect or malfunction, which created a safety hazard. Specifically, in some low speeds situations, the vehicle lacked immediate responsiveness needed to accelerate out of a tight and potentially unsafe situation. The dealer and american Honda were unable to identify the problem because it was intermittent. Therefore, they were unable to provide any fix and only described it as normal operation of the continuous variable transmission.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 4 mph and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated. The dealer was made aware of the failure but was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 250.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

At 11:00 a. M. On Nov. 6 I was driving my 2013 Honda Accord. I pulled into a store parking area at about 5 miles per hour. I put my foot on the brake and turned to enter the parking space when my car accelerated with my foot on the brake. I heard the car rev-up and pushed on the brake more. The revving stopped, but the car continued to move forward slowly. The car moved over the parking barrier and headed for the store wall. It broke through the store wall and I pushed the transmission into park and pushed the button to turn the car off. The car stopped immediately. I was not hurt and left the car to let the owner of the store know what happened. My car has the cvt transmission.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2013

Problem began almost immediately after purchasing my new Accord ex v-6 coupe. Especially when driving the vehicle in the morning (e. G. Haven't driven since the prior afternoon/evening), the vehicle will stutter when transitioning from first to second gear. This is particularly evident when accelerating after stopping at a stop sign/stoplight. I reported this issue to my local dealer and was told it was a "known issue".

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving and slowing down to approximately 5 mph the vehicle would hesitate and failed to respond when pressing the accelerator pedal before suddenly accelerating. The contact also stated while driving approximately 25 mph and removing his foot off the gasoline pedal the vehicle would automatically down shift. The failure was diagnosed by the dealer and the defects were not duplicated. None of the repairs were performed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5000.
