Two problems related to power steering light on have been reported for the 2018 Honda Accord. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2018 Honda Accord based on all problems reported for the 2018 Accord.
On highway, steering wheel lightly "locks into a notch". Gently applying pressure gradually will break it loose, but causes the car to lightly swerve when it does (noticeable to passengers). This sometimes happens when attempting to follow a left or right curve or when keeping the car in the lane on a straightaway. The problem is much less apparent when lkas is engaged. Problem appeared on 2018 Accord at approx 10,000 miles. Problem appeared suddenly and was not preceeded by anything out the ordinary. Problem so far occured 2 days consecutively. Problem shows up at speeds above 40 mph and after car has been at that speed for over approx 3 minutes. At speeds under 40 mph the problem does not exist.
The electric power steering eps warning light , coupled with steering wheel stiff resistance, occurred during several random events over the last four days - once the first day 30 mph on rural road, twice the second at 50 and 30 mph on highway then rural road, four times yesterday within those speeds on city streets, then twice while driving to the dealership this morning at 60 mph on interstate highway. Shutting off the engine, then restarting, only temporarily cleared the issue. I was fortunately driving during the events, and not allowing my wife or daughter to even consider handling. Tight turns were not possible - period. The dealership, upon completing diagnostics today, determined the steering box/rack and pinion were the source of failure. With <59,000 miles, spotless record of maintenance at this original dealer, and never abused, this type of either mechanical or electrical failure is unacceptable, as well a danger to the public. I reviewed 158 comments/cases on car complaint websites, specific to Honda Accord 2013 models with similar eps/steering box issues. Driving at any speed, where a passenger is presented a non-responsive steering event, would not be accepted by Honda management, nor any of their employees. Statistically, this appears a design flaw is the apparent issue, and replacement-in-kind in my logic doesn't resolve the issue, especially at my expense. In my area of expertise in crude refining, any failure is unacceptable in a mechanically sound piece of well-maintained equipment. If a steerable piece of equipment lost power in our facility, company resources and focused teams, safety audits, and possibly osha oversight would ensue. I'll be contacting Honda with the news that I cannot further support their products designed with eps.
