In Feb. 2026, I had a software recall service performed on my Honda Accord. Later that same day, a persistent error message appeared on my dash: software update not available see dealer. I contacted the dealer and they said sometimes that error message clears on its own and to wait and see. A few days later as I was leaving work, I turned my car on, put it in reverse and realized I had no propulsion or power steering. I put the car back in park and restarted it and drove it straight to the dealer where it sat for about three weeks as they tried to clear the error message. They were not able to reproduce the issue I reported with my car being on but without power. I picked up the car on 3/16/26. After leaving the dealership, it began sputtering and lurching. I could see on the powertrain display that the car was not communicating well between the engine and hybrid battery. I pulled into a parking lot and put the car in park and it began functioning normally. I called the dealer and they said to bring it back if that happened again. It has not. Tonight, I was pulling up to a red light when my car suddenly slammed on the brakes and displayed lane departure mitigation off. I attempted to restore that safety feature and realized my car had lost power. It did restore power and I was able to drive home, but I am terrified of my car since it engaged the braking system for no reason and disabled a safety feature plus losing power. During my car's time in the service department, it got a new can gateway module and telematics unit along with repeated attempts to make the software update glitch free to eliminate the persistent warning messages that had been displaying. Honda tech support was involved, and I have contacted Honda corporate with my concerns about the safety of my car but am waiting for a response. My perspective is the software recall update ruined my perfectly good car and I am worried I am going to lose power and get injured or worse.
I've had 3 phantom breaking experiences. Most recently while driving on a straight wet road (one of the other experiences the road was also wet). I was travelling at approximately 30-33 mph and the system did an automatic hard break with a perfectly clear road ahead, no cars, people or animals in front of me or on either side. Thankfully, no one was behind me either. The other wet road auto break instance was when I was traveling between 22-26 mph on a road with a slight curve and vehicles were parked on the right side of the road. I was turning appropriately to take the slight turn and suddenly the breaks slammed on. There was no danger of me hitting anything. The third instance was when a vehicle was crossing a two lane road from left to right ahead of me. Two vehicles were ahead of me in the right lane traveling the same direction I was. My vehicle slammed on the brakes assessing that we would hit the vehicle crossing the lanes. There was absolutely no danger of that happening, I was multiple car lengths back. Should this happen when vehicles are traveling behind me, it could cause a very bad accident and it would appear that I would be liable for slamming on my breaks. I will begin trying to disable this safety feature whenever the roads are wet and make an appointment to have the dealer inspect the car. This has not been inspected or confirmed by anyone at this point. When this occurs, there is no warning - just slams the breaks and a "break" warning with alert tones appears in the dash. No other warning lights or malfunction lights are on in my dash display. The vehicle is available for inspection with advanced notice so that I can make arrangements.
I purchased my Honda Accord June 21, 2024. For the first 3 months, the brake system indicator rectangle shape amber light (blinked on and off for several seconds) on 8 separate occasions when driving this car, so I brought the car to Honda dealer that concluded it must be dust on the brake for the next 3 months, the brake system indicator rectangle light (blinked amber on and off) on 6 separate occasions, the Honda dealer told me they could not find a problem with the brake, for the next 4 months, the brake system indicator rectangle light (blinked amber on and off) on 3 separate occasion , again the Honda dealer told me they could not find a problem but I noted that the dealer did not have record this on the work order. I then called Honda customer service (800-999-1009) support on June 23, 2025 at 1:17pm. I told the representative that the 2024 owners manual on page 84-85 did not have an amber brake indicator message among the 30 or so indicators in the manual. On page 493, the manual also mentions "if the brake system indicator (red) comes on or blinks, there is a malfunction in the brake system" on page 494, the manual also mentions "if the brake system indicator (red) comes on or blinks at the same time when the brake system indicator (amber), release the parking brake. The representative could not explain what a blinking amber brake system indicator meant and I should return car to the Honda dealer. Upon my insistence, my call was escalated and that a senior representative agreed that an blinking amber brake indicator explanation is not in the owners manual and could not provide me with an answer. Her best guess was that I was to close to a car in front of me (even though this has happened when there was not car in from of me). Can the NHTSA provide me with an explanation on why the brake system indicator rectangle light (blinked amber on and off) or have Honda provide the NHTSA with an explanation if this represents a dangerous situation to dri.
Several times the vehicle has automatically braked at low speeds (20-30 mph), nothing in front of the vehicle to cause this. Today it automatically braked. . . Hard. . . At 55 mph, again, nothing in front of vehicle, clear morning, road was clear. It braked so hard I'm pretty sure I have whiplash. I immediately called victory Honda. They told me to go wash my car and call them back if it happens again. The only warning it gave was the brake light and beeping, but it was instant. Thankful there was no one behind me.
Gas pedal would not engage after I rolled through a stop sign leaving me in the middle of a intersection. Causing a accident.
While driving the vehicle, usually while passing another vehicle, it slams on the brakes suddenly and decelerates rapidly. I suspect it has something to do with how it reads it's surroundings. When it happens, which is without warning, the brake light comes on the dash. It has happened multiple times but recently it was a close call with another vehicle behind me on the interstate. Which is why I'm taking the time to report this. I have not had it inspected.
I was driving the vehicle with no other vehicles in front of me, yet the vehicle hard braked as if it sensed a collision was about to occur. This happened on 08/23/2024 around 10:05 am.
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking system was activated, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. The contact stated that there were no other vehicles or objects nearby. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 13,000.
On 4/24/2024 at 12:05pm with my wife in the my new Honda Accord. I was traveling between 30 and 40 mph with nothing in front of me the aeb activated bringing the car to a complete stop. Nothing lit up on the dashboard at the time of activation. Since this car is brand new and only has 550 miles on it I am very concerned for my safety. If there was a car in back of me it would have caused a rear end collision. I took this vehicle immediately to crown Honda in saint petersburg florida to be assessed.
On 2 separate occasions while driving, I have taken an exit that has 2 left and 2 right turn lanes. While I'm in the middle left turn lane and a car is in the middle right turn lane the radar cone for the emergency braking system will trigger an imminent collision and slam on the brakes even though cars are in completely different lanes and I have nothing in front of me. Both incidents have caused near misses from cars behind me. I'm not sure I even feel safe driving this car anymore, if technology that is supposed to keep me and my passengers safe is this unpredictable to the interpretation of my environment, it will inevitably cause a collision and after viewing articles around news outlets it looks like this has already happened. It seems to be a sensitivity issue with the sensors on the front of the car or that the sonar is too wide. Either way, this needs to be fixed before drivers start getting into more serious collisions rather than small fender benders as there are a lot of crvs and Accords with this issue already on the road.
I was trying to back up and the car would not go. A warning on the dash came on that said collision mitigation system problem, see your dealer. I put the car in drive and it hesitated like a brake was on. . I couldn't get above 10 miles per hour. It was like I was trying to go forward, but someone was pulling me back at the same time. I took it to the dealer and they said nothing was wrong.
