Honda Accord owners have reported 224 problems related to adaptive cruise control (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Accord based on all problems reported for the Accord.
When traveling on an interstate highway in the left lane of a 2-lane highway with the adaptive cruise control turned on. Passing a tractor trailer going slower in the right lane, the car will apply the brakes unexpectedly. The dash will briefly show a "ghost" truck crossing into the left lane. The unexpected braking causes any vehicle behind the Accord to brake. Putting those vehicles and any behind them at risk. Smart Honda of des moines looked at the car on sept. 22, 2025 reported no error codes and nothing could be done. If the Accord hugs the far left shoulder, no "ghost" breaking occurs. If the adaptive cruise control is turn off and regular cruise control is turned on, no "ghost" braking occurs.

My son was driving home from work when car suddenly went into limp mode with check engine light and all other safety light came on the dash. Driving around 50mph and my son nearly collided with multiple cars as the became hard to steer and brakes unreliable. Luckily no one was hurt this time. Car has 83k miles. Was taken to the dealer and diagnostics run and provided with a $5000. Repair to replace the head gasket due to coolant leaking into cylinder #3 causing misfires. I have reached out to Honda of America with the issue.

Subject: safety complaint – loss of drive power prior to recall resulting in crash (2025 Honda Accord hybrid) I am submitting a safety complaint regarding a 2025 Honda Accord sport hybrid (VIN: [xxx]) involved in a crash on [xxx], which we believe is related to a recall issued later in January 2026. At the time of the incident, the vehicle was being driven under normal conditions, below the speed limit, on an empty road. The driver suddenly experienced a loss of control, the vehicle became unresponsive, veered out of its lane, and did not respond to steering correction. The vehicle ultimately collided with an electric pole and was declared a total loss. At the time of the crash, no recall or warning had been issued. We reported the incident to Honda on October 23, 2025 (case #[xxx]), describing the loss of control and unresponsiveness. However, no mention was made of any potential defect or safety concern. In January 2026, we received a recall notice stating that if the icm cpu resets while the vehicle is in operation, it may cause loss of drive power and increase the risk of a crash. This description closely matches what occurred during our accident. We also informed the dealership, scott Honda (vineland, NJ), but our concerns were not investigated. Instead, the dealership attempted to sell us another vehicle without addressing the safety issue. We believe the defect existed prior to the recall and may have directly contributed to the crash. We are also concerned that the manufacturer did not warn us despite our earlier complaint describing similar symptoms. This incident resulted in the total loss of our vehicle and ongoing financial hardship, as we have been without a replacement vehicle for over six months. We respectfully request that NHTSA investigate the timing of the recall, the manufacturer’s awareness of the defect, and how pre-recall complaints like ours were handled. We are willing to provide all supporting documents. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5.
All 4 warnings came on about a month ago - no safety systems & no cruise control at all. I could drive 50 miles and they'd go off until eventually they did not. Now I find through the forums that this is very common for the 2017 Honda Accord & hybrid! and, the dealers knowing this are charging over $2,000 for a simple camera! so, they know these have a high failure rate, are not fixing them, and are price gouging us! please help us all on the roads out there!.

Component/system: collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) or related software. Vehicle available for inspection. Safety risk: vehicle brakes or decelerates unexpectedly during normal driving, risking rear-end collisions. Most recent incident on August 23, 2025, required override by pressing accelerator and shifting to neutral in traffic. Reproduction: dealer could not replicate issue during may 16, 2025 visit. No diagnostic codes found. Radar and braking systems reported as “operating normally. ” a second evaluation occurred after September 5, 2025, with no resolution; issue persists. Inspection: inspected by Honda dealership twice—on may 16, 2025 (invoice #488382) and again after September 5, 2025. No third-party inspections. Symptoms: braking occurs in sport, normal, and econ modes. Happens when accelerating from stop or easing off accelerator. Brake light activates falsely. No warning lamps or messages prior to failure. This is an ongoing problem - -- on startup, the vehicle reports 4 system warnings that shut off the cruise control and abs brakes as well as the other safety systems. This is an intermittent problem. -- the dealer states that the camera is dead and wants $2,500 to replace and calibrate it. This is a common response from dealers I see in all the forums. -- I have found a work-around that is not documented in forums yet. -- if we keep our foot on the brake until after the electronics start sequence finishes, no errors every time -- if we take our foot off the brake when the car starts, but before the electronics finish, we get errors every time. This is a dangerous, high-frequency, extremely expensive problem if we follow the dealers suggestions. I do not know what the root cause is, but I know it is not a $2,500 problem. And, I am very concerned about the people driving without the safety features due to the excessive and unnecessary cost.
Head gasket blown on a 2018 Honda Accord 1. 5 turbo. Yes, yes warning lights have appeared.
I had been driving down highway and all of a sudden my car put on brakes hard. Thank goodness no one was behind me. I had dealer turn off that feature so it wouldn't happen again. I still experience my brake light flashing when nothing in road to brake for but doesn't brake on its own. Issue having now is issues starting car and once it starts I recieved a collision mediations issue pop-up on display saying see dealer now. Cruise control issue, and on dash has traction control saying ignitionating continue driving. The braking issue started right after purchase in 2018. The starting issue started yesterday 7/25/2025.
All warning lights turn on on the dash board. I replaced the battery, airbag module, and abs module and I'm still having the same issue.
I was behind another vehicle with the adaptive cruise control on and been following the for some distance at a speed below the cruise control setting. Warning came on for the braking mitigation, cruise control disengaged, vehicle began coasting but did not brake. I continued home driving without any other changes, but warning stayed on. After arriving turned vehicle off and restarted, warning did not come back on. I have not driven vehicle since. I checked and found other reports of similar problems and am filing this report. Will continue driving with extra caution and report any other occurrences.
My car started shaking like it didn’t want to go. My engine light came on. Then it showed road departure mitigation system problem, collision mitigation system problem, adaptive. Those control problem, and emissions system problem then says engine is not functioning properly.
On [xxx] my car while driving suddenly reported abs brake system failure, together with that other warnings flashed adaptive cruise, ps system (eps) failure etc. With difficulty I was able to stop the car and pull over. Same day I called Honda service hq and lodged a complaint case number [xxx]. The car has 57,478 miles and is properly maintained. Honda suggested that I drive the car over to a dealership. I am unwilling to drive due to serious safety concerns. Another followup email was sent on July 8th to acs@ahm. Honda. Com but has resulted in no response. I am a [xxx] and even though its a serious safety incidence, Honda has shown no signs of concern . Please advise and help me out, the company should get it towed and fix the issue free of charge. Thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Car goes in limp mode once the brake system lights come on. When the brake light system comes on, none of the functions for the automatic breaks or electrical portion of my vehicle works. The car will act as if it will not accelerate right before the codes start to appear on the car.
The vehicle has an emission system error along with all other errors, car also hesitates to accelerate. Yes it is dangerous a failing turbocharger can result in a noticeable decrease in engine power, especially at higher speeds. Diagnostic : confirmed by dealership. The car was looked at the dealership mechanics nothing happened to where I need any others. It’s just been lagging getting up into speed etc. It popped up a month ago the emission light and went away. Came back two days ago which today is 6/20. Engine system problem tire pressure monitor system electric power steering problem cmbs problem adaptive cruise control problem cmbs problem all lights flashes on screen.
This is about the 5th time this has happened to the car. All warning lights appeared spontaneously while driving. The lights would turn off if the car was turned off for a long period of time or is we disconnected battery for a long period of time. We have tried to research the problem and no one seems to know what the cause or permanent fix is.
There were no warnings the power steering failed just as the previous recalls on the 2000 model Hondas did but there's no recall for this one the abs has been affected there's no power steering and reduced engine power on and off a number of safety lights on dash the exact symptoms as described for number of Honda's before this one even the same year model but not this one 2013 Honda Accord VIN [xxx] . I keep writing and promises if no one is taking notice to my complaint information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

It is uncertain which specific system/systems have failed/malfunctioned at this point. Despite frequent and consistent communication with Honda, no real attempt has been made to uncover the cause of this issue, and no solution has been provided. The vehicle has been, and is, available for inspection upon request. This is the 7th occurrence since the first event on 21 April 2025. This occurred on the interstate. During this event, the vehicle rapidly decelerated from 70 mph to 60 mph without the ability of the driver to intervene or take back control of the vehicle. This led to a very near miss as traffic was rapidly approaching the rear of my vehicle. At the time of the incident (6:21 pm), I was in the right lane. Traffic was heavy. The weather was overcast and dry in tire path. Cmbs was off. Acc was off. Problem has not yet been reproduced but dealer has verbally indicated that they get frequent complaints about the system. This includes one employee who has experienced this on his personal vehicle. Many dtcs have been recovered from the vehicle’s log. Manufacturer: yes, vehicle has spent 30 days, to date, in custody of Honda police: not yet. Will do immediately if advised insurance representatives: not yet. Will do immediately if advised others: no. Any work on the vehicle performed outside of Honda east cincinnati will void the warranty no warning or alert (audible or visual) lights were present before, during, or after the event.

If car is idling for over 1 minute, all lights on dash come on. When all lights on, car wont wont go over mph, car will randomly sputter in highway when going over 1rpm and will stall randomly. Reported on reddit by multiple people and when I went in to get it diagnosed it was the fuel injector issue.

• head gasket • none of the safety features work when there is a head gasket issue. Power steering is reduced as well as break performance • confirmed by Honda dealership with a boroscope • Honda • no warning, Honda at first thought it would be fixed by fixing the factory recalls. Light went away prior to taking it in and then looked in to it 2 weeks later and diagnosed head gasket failure.
- component/system failure/malfunction: adas. Specifically, cmbs and/or acc. - my car has repeatedly experienced unexpected braking events, rapidly bringing me to nearly a complete stop in the highway. During this time, I have no ability to control the speed of my vehicle. This has been occurring during my ~70 mile commute on I-675, I-75, and I-275. - despite having the car on multiple occasions and for over a week collectively, the issue has not been replicated by the dealer. - the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others to date. The Honda dealer has not initiated any further inspection. - during these failures, the car has (often) been braking without due reason or any alert to the driver. No system malfunction was found (either shown to driver or in computer log, as verified by dealer). Please review attached document for further details regarding the incident(s). This copy has been presented to Honda and the ohio attorney general.

Every light on my dashboard came on at once. I took it to a Honda dealership for a diagnostic check and they said it was my turbo but every light is still on.
While driving on the interstate, suddenly got 6 different ‘warning’ messages on the dashboard. Most of them involved the brakes. Emergency brake malfunction, brake hold malfunction, forward collision malfunction, adaptive cruise control malfunction, brake system malfunction (use of brakes may be reduced), and road departure mitigation malfunction.
All warning lights have turned on my dash. Ive done research and this is happening a lot of people that own 2018-2020 Honda Accord 1. 5l.
The car is braking even when there is no obstacle or vehicle ahead. I have not driven at higher speed but I fear that if that happens, it can cause incident and injury.
