The engine block has a hairline crack and they wont cover it as it is over their "10 year mark " I am a second owner and I bought the car in perfect condition. Fast forward a few years later, and I do all of my maintenance, and I wake up and theres coolant all over my garage floor. And when I changed the oil it seemed slimey. I took it in to Honda to get it checked out and they saidsince I am out of the warranty period they are willing to cover 60% of the costs which I would have to pay out of pocket $3200 are you kidding me? for a defect that was there from the beginning. I could replace the whole engine myself for $1000. But its not my problem. Regardless of the miles (170k) ive had fords and older Hondas that reach well over 300k miles as long as you take care of them. This needs to be addressed immediately.
My ' 06 Honda Civic has approximately 158,000 miles. It has received manufacturer specified maintenance. While I was driving in may '18, I noticed it was overheating. I immediately took the vehicle to my local maintenance garage. After inspecting the vehicle, they informed me the that overheating was due to a crack in the engine block. They informed me that this is a reoccurring issue with the year, make and model vehicle. They printed the manufactures process for identifying and cause and the process for replacing the engine. Subsequently, I informed the local Honda dealership of the issue, they said the my vehicle falls outside of the 10 year extended warranty the provides coverage/ engine replacement to remedy this issue. I have an appointment to have the dealership conduct the official inspection. The inspection cost is 75. 00 alone and doesn't even guarantee that the Honda corporation will even look at the evidence. This issue is very frustrating to say the least.
Began overheating. Had checked often & no problem found. Finally mechanic said small crack in block and engine needed to be replaced. Not repaired as of this complaint. I am original owner and have taken care of my vehicle well.
I have a 2006 Honda Civic that has 55,000 on it and it developed the know issue of the crack in the engine and is now leaking antifreeze from the crack. Honda did a warranty campaign on this known problem but only for 10 years. I called Honda corp and was basically told I was beyond the 10 year mark and on my own for the repair. I feel that if Honda knows this is a problem then they should cover the cost and make it a recall not an extended warranty campaign. This car is not driven al lot that why the miles are so low. This happened as my son was driving to school on a town road.
Honda Civic cracked engine we purchased the Honda Civic from the dealership and were never apprised of any warranty extension in 2010. If we had, we would not have purchased this vehicle. Honda notified us of two other recalls (airbag, visor) but never notified us of problems with the engine. The Honda has been seen at three different Honda dealerships and all repairs/maintenance done at them, but never did any of the three tell us about the engine. The dealership we purchased it from won't pay, even though they were aware that they were selling us a defective car. Since this is a manufactures defect, it should be repaired by the manufacture and not the owner. The warranty extension was for 10 years. This car has 141,000 miles of which we only put 37,000 on in the last 7 years that we owned it this car is still in great condition, but not worth more than $3,000 on kelly blue book the quote for a new engine was $5,766. This continues to be a major safety issue and Honda needs to be held responsible for faculty and unsafe vehicles. The engine cracked due to defective materials and not due to the owner.
Cracked engine block outside of 10 year recall becomes full responsibility of owner. If this is a known issue, it should be fully covered, regardless if the car is outside the 10 year period. Honda is using the coverage period as a copout, especially as I was not previously notified a recall.
Engine mount is broken common problem with these cars and everytime I drive it makes a uncomfortable rambling noise and I feel like this is going to lead to other issues in the engine bay. This happens in low speeds and at high soeed.
Engine block cracked at 95k miles. Known problem. Honda won't cover.
The car was in transit between home and local shopping center during xmas week of 2017. After 4miles, the engine temperature indicator went off the charts for the first time. Car was stopped, allowed to cool down - and note of steam from under bonnet, and towed back home. Took it the Honda dealer without driving further (3miles to car center). In this time, temperature increase to 3/4 of gauge, and when we left, there was clear burring odor. Vehicle was inspected, crack in the engine block noted - and told $4. 6k to fix. . . And then determined it was a known issue with Honda Civic. . . . Read more...
A known defect - the engine block on our 2006 Honda Civic cracked while my son was driving on a highway. We've owned the car for less than 2 years and were never advised that the Civic engine block was prone to this - or we would have not purchased the car. Even though Honda "extended" the warranty for this known defect, we are out of the warranty coverage period - thus left to foot the expense of replacing the engine on our own. My son's safety was at risk when this happened. This should be a recall not a warranty extension. Shame on Honda.
Engine has significant blocking issues due to manufactuer's error causing leaks and super heating the car. Car is not driveable with only 82,000 miles approximately. We are the original owners of this car when we bought the car in 2006.
2006 Honda Civic with only 44,326 miles. Litterally a 6,000 mile a year driver. Driving down the street about 45 mph for about 5 minutes when I started smelling the sweet smell of coolant. Pulled over and saw that coolant was spurting out of an area south of the spark plugs about 6 inches down on the engine block. Filled it back up with coolant and made it home. No warning lights or temp increase until I made it home. If I were doing 70 on the highway, the heat and pressure would have blown it all out and my engine would have overheated. Looks like a cracked engine block with only 44k. Come to find out, that Honda simply extended the warranty instead of doing a recall. Too bad us second owners didn't get the info.
The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the thermostat gauge increased to a high level. The vehicle was inspected by two independent mechanics. One mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The other independent mechanic was able to determine that there was a premature crack in the engine block. The vehicle was not inspected and diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and indicated that the vehicle was not included in a warranty extension for the engine block for a10-048, which superseded 10-048. The manufacturer refused to provide a solution. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Cracked engine block Honda will not repair this know defect and did not alert me of the defect when I purchased the car from a Honda dealership.
New owners of the car and were never informed of a recall. Now the engine block is cracked as stated in the Honda recall but only allows repairs on cars for up to 10 years old. Our car has just reached 11 years old from sale 1 month ago!.
Crack engine block as the other Hondas from 2006 and 2009.
My Honda Civic ex 2 door looses power then sputters in over driver.
In 2013 I bought a Honda Civic 2006 from a Hyundai dealership in long island. In 2017 my engine block cracked. We later came to find out that there was a manufacturer defect on the car. We never knew anything about a warranty or a recall although Honda says it wasn't a recall it was an extended warranty we had no idea, we were never notified. We are 10 over the warranty period. We bought the car from a dealership that wasn't Honda and basically now nobody wants to help us do anything. It will be at least $4,000 to fix this car which we do not have and we are beyond frustrated and upset. Any kind of recourse you can give us would be extremely helpful thank you.
The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic. While driving approximately 60 mph, the temperature gauge suddenly indicated that the engine was hot. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the coolant reservoir was nearly empty. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (rusty wallace Honda in knoxville, tennessee) where it was diagnosed that the engine short block cracked and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 167,000.
I had just bought this car 1 week prior and when driving down the street it started smoking profusely then the engine shuddered. Being scared, I pulled over right away and had it towed. I found out the block cracked and this is happening on most Civics of this year due to faulty parts. I called Honda, they said they wouldn't help and its my fault for buying an eleven year old car! this is a fault of Honda and they refuse to address it.
The bolt in my motor keeps breaking off causing my engine to shut off while driving.
My car suddenly leaked a lot of antifreeze. Had to have it towed to the mechanic who told me the engine block was cracked. A known problem with my make/model of vehicle. Well this was a surprise to me. This happened suddenly. Fortunately I was in my neighborhood and not the highway. Honda says have know the original engine was faulty, but that I am out of luck repair wise. They have known about this for years and never notified me. . Read more...
I bought this vehicle a couple months back on a loan and eventually found out there was a recall for manufacturers defect for the engine block and held a ten year period of getting a new one and I would like to get a one because I have issues pertaining to it by everyplace I go to even Honda says I my car wasn't on the list of recalls even when I showed them proof and now I'm passed the deadline and still have no solutions. Soon I'll be stuck payong a car loan for a car I can't use because I couldn't get to help I needed when it was covered under warranty has 156000 miles now.
The Civic has a cracked engine block. Without any warning it suddenly ran hot last week (of course late at night on a highway). We have learned that this is a known defect with this model and that Honda had extended the warranty to 10 years, but we are now 1 year out of that warranty. Dealership said to contact Honda of America. Hoa said to contact dealership. So we are getting the runaround. Two small repair shops aren't even able to do the repair. Honda needs to help us get this repaired at no cost or a very low cost.
Cracked engine block. This is a known issue to Honda, and the offer a 10 year warranty on it, but after 10 years they basically tell you sorry you're out of luck. How can they do this when the engines they made were faulty?.
I own a 2006 Honda Civic with 99,000 miles. I was driving to school when I noticed smoke coming out of my engine. I immediately pulled over and shut the car off. The inside of the car had a strong disgusting smell. I got the car checked out and was told that there was a crack on the engine block. I did research on the issue and found that it is a known defect. Honda took notice of the defect and extended the warranty on the car. The downfall, Honda extended the warranty only up to 8 years after the purchase date. I am a second owner and had no idea that this was an issue; had I known I would not have purchased the vehicle. The engine cracked after the extended warranty ended and now Honda is saying that I must bare all costs even though I am a second owner. This is not right because it is not my fault the engine block cracked. Honda should still cover this problem since it is a defect on their part.
I would like the recalls to be done om my car due to saftey issues becaus3 I don't believe it was even done at least I know with me it hasn't and I wasn't informed and feel very unsafe in my vehicle because of what should of been fixed and hasnt.
My 2006 Civic slowed to a crawl and started smoking from under the hood on Thursday while driving down the highway. There were no warnings or precursors to this event. Luckily I was able to find a safe place on the side of the highway without being struck by another vehicle or precipitating an accident. Aaa towed to our mechanic who ran a coolant pressure test which revealed a cracked engine block. I am the 2nd owner. The vehicle was bought in 2007 as certified from local dealer. I was given no notice of warranty extension or TSB 10-048. Had I known, I would have sold the vehicle before incurring these unexpected costs for an obvious manufacturing defect.
The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic. When the vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change, the contact noticed that the engine was fractured. It was diagnosed that the entire engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic. When the heat was activated, the vehicle circulated cold air instead. The dealer diagnosed that the engine had a fractured block. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The manufacturer was willing to provide a portion of the repair through the warranty. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.
Cracked head.
I started my vehicle during the night and cold weather drove my car less than five minutes when the inside started smelling like anti coolant. I pulled over to check fluid and noticed the block had a crack in it I have noticed there is a problem in this model of car but it's for ten years of purchase and I never got a letter stating I could get this check earlier I need help.
At about 110,000 miles on my 2006 Civic, the engine block developed a crack. Honda is aware of this problem and extended warranties for this issue, but failed to contact us (my wife is the original owner). We are now just outside of the extended warranty and the cost to repair was quoted as about $5,000. Honda should cover this cost due to their knowledge of a faulty product but it appears we are in the hook for the cost (likely will result in our need to buy a new vehicle).
The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic. While driving approximately 45 mph, a loud pop was heard and smoke appeared from the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact had to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road to a complete stop. The vehicle was towed to the nearest dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine block was cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact also stated that the vehicle was purchased with an extended warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Cracked engine block. Leakiging coolent.
