My car always stayed at the appropriate temperature. Never any problems. Had my oil changed faithfully and fluid checked. At about 84,000 miles, my antifreeze leaked quite extensively, my engine was overheating. Took to the dealership, and my engine block was cracked. No ryme or reason for it. I heard that Honda gave Civic owners a 10-year warranty from date of purchase because of this problem. This problem occurred 10-years and 3 months after the date of purchase (may 2007). When this occurred, I was doing city streets and noticed it when it was stationery.
After routine oil change, by my mechanic, an oil leak was noted. After close inspection on a lift it turned out to be small fissures in oil pan metal(aluminum). The car has always been garaged, and never in an accident. The development in the metal is obviously a serious matter as an oil leak can have devastating consequences. I spoke to Honda(America) this afternoon and reported it.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the seal of the engine bolt was leaking oil. The dealer replaced the bolt under warranty. The manufacturer has not yet been notified. The failure and current mileages were 10,235. Updated 03-18-08.
Independent garage discovered during an oil change that oil was leaking from a valve cover gasket. Took car to dealer. This was at 3,300 miles. No problem since repair. Car now has 5,800 miles on it (1/14/08).
